Here is the text between me and some other user on a post in the General Discussion board.



I complained about the blatant racism and violent aggression of this user in a report to the moderator. This should have been an open and shut case of permanently banning somebody who is clearly a hateful and racist bigot. Instead, I log on tonight and find that the moderator who looked at my report denied it. Some moderator on General Discussion is obviously supporting violence and racism. This is unbecoming of both bitcoin and civilization overall. The user and moderator in question need to be expelled immediately if you wish to uphold the integrity of this website.

And just to be perfectly clear, I filed two reports on this. This first time was in the first quote of Honeypot. Apparently suggesting that Palestinians are a violent breed was not enough for the moderator to issue any kind of action in response. Today I find that this same user, Honeypot, is now using racial slurs as well.

The response, or lack thereof, from the moderators has been absolutely sickening thus far.

Are you fucking serious? Using racial slurs and making violent threats is okay on bitcointalk.org?

Threats of violence aren't okay, I don't see any though. Being a racist is okay, though posts with strong political commentary of that sort tend to be off topic more often than not, and if it isn't off topic then the thread itself may need to be re-evaluated.

Grow a thicker skin, this is the internet. I am offended that you're offended, where does this madness stop? Cries of bigotry and racism are far too common and used improperly daily. This has watered down the true meaning of these words. I would rather know what a person really thinks than have them hide it behind a smile, that way you can take action such as ignore them or go to another forum. One should be able to say pretty much what they want but that doesn't mean there aren't consequences. They could be ignored and no one will trade with them.
Crying for the censor police at every harsh word is ridiculous and petty.

That's pretty tame for Honeypot to be honest. I'd just ignore him. As much as I abhor racism (as well as racists) I think they should be allowed to express their views as long as it's in the relevant topics and not off-topic, but his comments usually tend to be or at least direct threads that way. He seems to like baiting people by posting racist crap then comes out with a barrage or childish insults after. He was banned a while back I believe (not sure for what exactly but I can only assume it was for doing this repeatedly).

He said that he "knows a very direct way of dealing with [me]. Better yet, send [me] to the Palestinians." How you can percieve that as anything other than a non-idle violent threat is beyond reasoning.


So you think that calling somebody from the Middle East a "shit skin" isn't racism, and even if it is, it should be fully allowed? I am not misusing the word at all, and you are encouraging very uncivilized behavior on this forum. I pray to god that at least one sane moderator sees this bullshit and does something to help keep things peaceful on here. This is exactly the kind of insanity that we don't ever want to associate with cryptocurrency. That is, if you are actually here to support crypto.

This is downright shameful behavior and the responses I am getting are shameful all around.

"I pray to god..."  Offensive. You didn't capitalize the G and you mentioned god! What does god have to do with BTC?

Do you see how this works? It never ends. You need to realize your opinion isn't the only one but you seem to think it trumps all others. You are free to join the myriad of other forums that are PC correct and happily censor all posts.

I do support crypto, I also support people's rights to express themselves. No, I don't particularly like what he says or agree with it. Doesn't mean he can't say it. Being intolerant of intolerant people just justifies their beliefs and drags you down to their level.

To the other moron, I never said to ban people because somebody was being offended. Nice way to divert the argument. You might as well try to argue that people using racial slurs on here doesn't make bitcoin or cryptos look bad at all. Oh wait, you just did.

Even if it's barbaric, it's not illegal and you can't be banned for it. Just click the 'ignore' button, or, go to Zoklet and see how bad it is over there.

You have admitted that you don't care if a bitcoin forum is free from racial slurs like "shit skin", "nigger", or "kike". Obviously, you should be banned and have no idea how to keep a forum civilized and inviting. I honestly never thought this place would allow this disgusting behavior. Unfortunately, it appears it has been infiltrated by some nefarious group.

People is saying mean things and moderators won't do anything about it! That must mean that the forum has been infiltrated by them and all of this is orchestrated by a cabal of (jews|palestinians|arabs).

You can use the "ignore" feature.
In any case it should not be a mods job to determine what is offensive. If someone is a child-like idiotic raciest then that's their problem, not yours and mine. Let the fools talk and dig themselves into a hole.  Those people don't even count anyway.

I agree they don't count, which is why they should be forcefully censored with a permanent ban. Once again, when a person comes here and sees people using words like "kike, spic, chink, nigger, cracka", I somehow think that such behavior MIGHT look really bad and leave a horrible impression on both these forums and cryptocurrency in general.

Premise #1: We are here to help the world by finding the best idea for every single aspect of cryptocurrency AND/OR many of us are here to get rich.
Premise #2: If you had an employee at your company leaving comments on your website with racial slurs then you would fire that person immediately without any thought given, unless you were stupid or hated making money.
Conclusion: Users that spout racial slurs, even one time, should be permanently banned from this website and every cryptocurrency website.

This is not an opinion. It is a logical fact about how you run a business. Maybe you didn't notice, but segregation ended a looooong time ago. Now go learn how to run a business and then come back and apologize for being so ignorant about the subject.

Or they may see that this forum is run by adults who value freedom of speech; yes, freedom can be offensive at times, but if you value it you don't go running to authorities every time something offends your delicate sensibilities.

I suggest you learn to tolerate stupidity; you're likely going to encounter lots of it in this world.

This has nothing to do with me being offended or not. I get it now. You are not smart enough to understand the repercussions of using the word "nigger" or language in general. You idiots sure are making the Central Banks happy right now. With "bitcoiners" like you, who needs shills?

If you browse these forums you'll find a whole sh+tload of comments that could be considered offensive, racist, violent... however I still think freedom of speech is more important than avoiding such offensive comments at all costs (of cause there are constraints which should not be exceeded - for example calls to harm/attack a specific person/group).  It's better to open a discussion on such extreme hateful opinions than simply suppressing them, because otherwise they have no chance of being refuted and the underlying thoughts will still persist with the person expressing them.

This forum also has an ignore-function if you don't want to read all the garbage. ;)

IMHO, it is very hard to draw a line between "offensive" and "non-offensive" as everyone has a different tolerance level, and we will need 10x more mods to handle those "offensive post" reports.

I think you didn't read my statement correctly. I'm not requesting more moderation/censorship. I'm requesting more tolerance when it comes to questionable posts, because nothing is gained from suppressing such statements altogether.

You forgot the main purpose of these forums: expressing your opinion about Bitcoins, cryptocurrencies and other topics without censorship.

This is not a business, it's a community based on freedom of opinion. The main purpose of the forum isn't to make money - it is to let people have discussions amongst themseleves.

No, that's an opinion. A fact is something proven by evidence. Logic isn't evidence (some people think the 5 second rule for food is logical  :D), clearly defined rules are. And again, not a business.

You nailed it, this forum is obviously inadequate, I think you should start another one and then you could impose whatever rules you wish.  Since your rules would be so much better and make such a better impression I'm sure users would flock to your forum.

I think most people realize there is a difference between a forum endorsing something and allowing people to post their opinions.

Not all bitcoiners come here. If that's going to be your attitude you can go to Reddit, where there's more moderation than these forums. I personally don't find it hard to ignore people here. This also shouldn't be the first place people visit when they hear of Bitcoin.
