I agree. The scene's dead. It was killed by greed.

Money isn't the end-all be-all of everything. It compels people to waste huge chunks of their life on absolutely nothing while simultaneously fucking up other peoples' lives.

There are so many other potential applications for blockchain technology, its disgusting that people should get so easily caught up in chasing the next PumpCoin at Bittrex, tripping over the actually interesting and smart coins to get there.

I think we need more people willing to stand up and expose phony devs or other market manipulators for what they are. Politeness kills and silence kills.

Real investors have very little faith in the crypto scene exactly because of its scammy reputation, which has only been solidified in the last 6 months. But its nobody's fault in particular; just society's fault for placing waaaaaaay too much importance on $$$CASHMONEY$$$

Full of scammers. We need entry barriers. A start would be some kind of comitee which exchanges recognize to approve or reject new coins.

Lol same type of thread every year. After the big alt coin run up and the profits gained comes the scams and then the overfeed pigs complain their stomachs hurt. Lol

Lol same type of thread every year.

Every day, you mean. In multiple variants.

And the solution is so simple: shut down the entire ANN section.

But it won't happen.

How can you say this when there were exactly 3 altcoins at this time last year?

Funny how people truly believe there is actually some sort of precedent for this field.

All these people who joined in 2014 seem to be the only ones always bitching and moanin about the "alt scene" , just saying. New threads every other day, they want changes, entry barriers , bla bla bla, fuck off OP , and the rest crying about the alt scene.

You joined in dec 2013... Things changed a lot only in the last 3 months, there were a lot of coins then coming out then but for a different reason. Now there are devs that make a coin per week to dump the premine.
I want to be able to leave my computer more than 1 hour without finding the coin dead when i come back... Right now the most money are made by scammers and the community is bleeding.

ya i joined in 2013, your point? few days before doge coin got released and then all hell broke loose. and i was in this scene even before that, this is not to say whose balls are bigger , But its clear the dogecoin rush got all you 2014 retards to join in because there was a lot of money to be made right? STFU, you dont see me crying about whats happening. These types of posts are always created by those who joined in 2014 and are  upset because they had hopes to make some money while sleeping and it didnt work out.

@TiberiuC  , this so called community was bound to take a turn for the worse. Started with meme coins, then country coins, then color coins, then anonymous coins, you just havent been here long enough to see how shit its been. Sure you probably notice more shit now and i agree it is a disgusting place to be but who are supporting these new coins? Miners, they give them hash thus they give them life. 2nd bittrex takes almost any new coin on their exchange and further perpetuates this cycle. Its shit but it is what it is.

entrybarrier, commitee, closing down, locking is all pretty authoritarian. Doing that would only lead to creation of new forums. I wanted to get nowhere with opening thread. I just wanted to vent a bit.

it makes me kind of sad and angry to see good coins fighting for survival while the most stupid shit is pumped. People loose a lot of money to scams - that takes away the money from the good coins because it doesn't come back.
I can see the effect of money being sucked out of alts via scamcoins. THAT is the real problem.
Look at Roxcoin for example. Pumped with no end. 24h mining ninjalaunch. Excuse me? There are other coins worse than that.
I would recommend for all people with a brain go back to established coins which have been prooven not to be vapourware.
Only trade fair coins with skilled and commited dev behind it.
What else can i recommend?
Raise the bar. Stop chasing fake hype.
Good luck with your investements.

To the few good devs reading this:
Make ONE coin and stick to it. Create coins worth hoarding. Make projects that are intended to last for decades and push them through. Create something of longterm-value. For the benefit of crypto and your reputation.

Hello World!  :P

Lol I get it.

You mean it used to be even better than when I first got here? I believe it.

How can you say this when there were exactly 3 altcoins at this time last year?

How can you say there were only 3 at this time last year?

Because I said it at a whim without actual knowledge but via my desire to still be right I will tell you I was being exaggerative (diminutive?). But what was it really, like 10-50? As opposed to 900+ today?

The real problem is there's too many alts. Too many unsustainable facets that require bitcoin to survive. If the recent trend of alts going down when bitcoin goes up continues, alts will likely be even more doomed to slow deaths.

Hopefully there will still be a handful of shining standouts once the wave crashes.

Stop mining or buying shit.

I agree, the section should just be shut down. It's bitcointalk, a bitcoin forum. If alt devs can't run & promote their own forum they shouldn't be taking people's money. It's just a huge fail parade. The serious alts have their own forums & don't come here any more because they don't want to be associated with it.

Not so different than late 2013. New coins were being churned out then, very little innovation. Pump and dumps everywhere. People expect history to repeat, and then it does. Everybody trying to catch that pump.... :)

It sort of turns the work many people are trying to do and have done with Bitcoin into a joke in some way shape or from in my opinion.  Can't really expect the world to use a coin to store their wealth and take cryptography seriously when the scene is flooded with failed joke clone scam pump and dumped coins.

I find myself scrolling up and down endlessly on this pool of SHIT that is the alternative cryptocurrencies section. For one interesting coin such as XMR, there are a million shitcoins. It's trully a waste of time. Trying to make any money is just a lottery, like being a DRK linux instaminer or selling AUR RIGHT at the massive peak, most other coins are just P&D too quickly mined and dumped to ever even be able to give shitty amounts of BTC (all that people want is to sell for BTC).
Still feeling suicidal about not buying BTC back in the day, now im poor and fucked for life (BTC is also useless as fuck if you missed the boat)

This will always happen as long as there are poor people trying to hustle money from any way possible.
