I find it hard to believe that the Pope would have made this comment. It may be true but it is highly inflammatory.

I think I read on the news that it was one in 50 priests. That's a huge number.

It was interesting to see that he's looking into the possibility of letting priests marry women. I wonder if this would stop them abusing children? It's not natural to be celebrate and can only cause problems. I'm not even sure if there was anything in the bible strictly about it either.

Your logic: The possibility of marrying women is going to stop paedophiles from being such.
In case you haven't noticed: Paedophiles don't want to have sex with women but with kids/teens.

Pope Francis is one of the best popes to ever be ordained. He does not care about what people think he is not advertising Catholicism like it is a product that he is trying to sell. He openly admits to problems and then tries his best to tackle them.

Priest is the perfect profession for a paedophile.  Adult sexual relationships are forbidden, High percentage of others like you to to help protect you, trusted in your community, and easy access to children.

I was born and raised Catholic and I still kinda follow along on religious things but I take a more spiritual vision when dealing w/ my perceived God. It's kind of hard to just up and ditch the religion I've been a part of all my life considering I went to their schools from early on through graduating college. The conservative Catholics don't like this Pope and the liberal ones tend to be cool with him. Tho, I'm at the point now where much of the religious teachings I've had over the years have faded and I'm left w/ just The Golden Rule. My major beef w/ this Pope is him talking all this spreading the wealth socialist talk when he should be preaching non-stop for the USA to chill out in the middle east.

It may well be just 2 percent but I have my doubts.  I would not be surprised if the 2 percent is the real number but the real issue is it is the top 2 percent of clergy members with real power are the ones that have the issue with pedophilia. 

If this is true, this is really shocking fact!
I think that Catholic church have this problem because of their celibate tradition.
Other churches, where priests can marry and have families, don0't have so much problem in this area like Catholics.
Hopefully Pope Francis will do something about this and allow catholic priests to marry to.

This pope is a bit too naive...even thought he's a jesuit. Also, jesuits are militant, not military. They follow the strict teachings of Ignatius Loyola, a former mercenary turned repentant priest who dedicated his zeal and strict application of personal courage and discipline required for a hardened mercenary into a religious self discipline. They strictly foreswore violence and application of physical force in return for reliance upon absolute self restraint and adherence to catholic teachings and almost masochistically austere disciplinary lifestyle.

Although I agree that the Catholic Church faces a lot of sexual abuse problem, they are not the no.1 perpetrators. The evangelical / Pentecostal sects are much worse. There is a sect called New Tribes Mission, which hunts down tribal people and forcibly converts them to Christianity. Recently there was an investigative article about them in the Survival International site. It claimed that more than half of the missionaries (50%+) were engaged in child sexual abuse. But since the victims were illiterate tribals, the perpetrators never got punished.

I suspect that some young men who are troubled by their sexuality are drawn to the priesthood in the mistaken belief that it will somehow correct the issues they have. The more diabolical among them may take up the priesthood for access to children.

Even though I am an atheist I like this Pope and am really hoping he justifies my affection by rooting out the pedophiles and starting to turn them over to the police.
But, as it is with all of this pope's hippie talk about helping the poor and social justice, I worry about this pope's, uh, health. You just get the sense that if he pushes too far he might get suddenly very ill. Or he may become victim to a terrible "accident."
It will take a lot of effort to take one of the world's most corrupt institutions and turn it into a force for good.
