Title: --* Monero Community Hall of Fame *--
Post by: rpietila on July 16, 2014, 07:58:57 PM
This has been moved --> to a new thread (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=700400.msg7914927#msg7914927) <--

----------------------------old----------------------------
"Dear sirs,

Monero is on its way to becoming the #10 coin in the Coinmarketcap list. For me it is the #2 coin already, since apart from Bitcoin, it is the only coin that I have ever bought. When thinking about the community, I have been getting the feeling that it is already, or at least soon becoming the second-strongest coin by the quality of members. It is astonishing how many of the most astute people in this forum own Monero, even though they hold very few altcoins in general.

The coin has had absolutely no premine, instamine or ninjamine. It is still only about 11% mined, and most of this time it has been listed in an exchange. Never was there an opportunity to - even legitimately - mine huge stashes of the coin. The developers have not had any frontrun. Now as it is clear that the community is waiting for them to deliver several things that cost money, it is easily forgotten that the Monero devs do not have the luxury of premine that all the other altcoins can tap into. They are working for free, and paying the costs out of pocket.

Brothers, this can not continue!

This thread's purpose is twofold:
- To raise money for XMR development;
- To publish to the cryptoworld the extent of XMR adoption.

By donating moneros to the development fund, you will be listed here. The names listed will inspire awe in all the other coin owners, as they see that the Monero community consists of the top talent of cryptoworld.

Donations for general development

There are no large holders, who could bear the burden alone. Everybody is invited to join. I suggest that if you own XMR and read this, you would join the list by donating an amount that is approximately 1% of your XMR stash, or less since you can donate more later. Then reply to the thread with the amount and I will list you under the appropriate category.

I hope the devs and hero members would soon come up with the practicalities, concerning:
- Full disclosure of the use of funds;
- What to do if the fund's value grows disproportionately so that it is threatening the development more than helping it.

Interesting! I was waiting for something like this :)

Only thing, i think there should be less categories so each category can have more 'value'.

Also indeed people have donated already and some very recently. Can something be done about it?

Interesting! I was waiting for something like this :)

Subbing.  I have donated some already.  But will do more.

Is there a way to verify donations with this privacy based currency or do we use the honor system?

How do we see the balance of the donation addy, or verify donations by posting keys?

I think honor is enough for kyu grades. For Dan levels, you should contact the treasurer in advance and he will give you something that resembles a satoshimessage (or whatever that identifies you).

Please the ones who already donated, post your sum and donation day. Earliest date takes preference in the listing order, and the sum of your all donations count towards a level.

I must admit you are a very clever person.

The point is twofold here :

1. Donate to the devs to help out monero
2. Rpietela to create a richlist with the proposed 1% for calculations

I will be donating aswell btw :)

We're working on adding this feature now. We need to do a couple things to make it verifiable by any given person cryptographically (the wallet needs to support a view-only mode given view keys, and we need to sign key images from one-time use private keys if we spent with ring signatures to show that they were actually spent).

I love the idea, and want to support the devs.  It is very important.

I especially love the 4th kyu prize. ;)

I am struggling with making my donations public.  Some cognitive dissonance for me. ;)  But I want to play along.  Perhaps I will make a single 1 time donation of a small amount publicly separate from my private support.

Great idea, and hilarious choice of currencies (the last four).  I donated 25 XMR on July 11th.

Above 1,000 there will be a new category per each 1,000 and they will have several crates of Diamonds + perhaps some extra.

I've been supporting this coin a lot. I was here since the first day, but I remember, my bad luck as always made me buy at the top, so I own like 60 XMR :(
I can't afford any additional XMR neither can I donate. Im going to try buying more. Of course I didnt had enough to buy before the expect jump in price. It's still ridiculously low tho.

Although it may not help you level up in the hall of fame, a good way to support development if you are a miner is to solo mine to the donation address. This also helps the coin itself directly by maintaining a full node and increasing decentralization. I recently shifted some of my mining gear to the donation address.

As an indirect donation, you can choose to mine to a pool that donates to the dev fund also :) The pools and their percentage of donation are listed in the OP (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=583449).

I have supported the development right from the start :)

20 XMR donated to the pool bounty
 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=589533.msg6520571#msg6520571)10 XMR donated to the GUI bounty (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=589561.msg6528163#msg6528163)
5 XMR donated to the logo bounty (I think some of it went to the devs eventually; can't find my post however...)
and my first transaction was a 1 XMR transaction to tacotime to test my wallet ;)
also gave around 5 XMR to get people into Monero and already donated a few XMR to the devs. Just can't remember the ammount

Total already >35 XMR
I'll add another 70 if that puts me in the 3rd dan (I like gold ;) ) (and this total is around the 1% 'rule')

Please confirm and I'll send it  ;D

edit: 100 XMR total would not be 1% but rather something around 9% I miscalculated  ;D

Are you thinking of only completed bounties? Or all of them, both waiting to be claimed as well as pledged and waiting for collection?

Would donations to developers addresses before they listed the dev wallet fund count, also what about donations to the giveaway fund .. which I think has been sent to the dev wallet?

So many different different names I've used! I guess I'll be left with my own figures :)

So many different different names I've used! I guess I'll be left with my own figures :)

- 1 XMR donated equals 1 XMR regardless of its exchange value. Other currencies (BTC) are converted to XMR at the exchange rate of the donation date;

- The donation date is the date when you published the willingness to surrender this money to development (in case that there is a delay between the stated intent and the transaction), however it is listed only after you transfer/surrender the funds (this applies to bounties where you have the funds in your possession and/or don't know if you are required to surrender them or not);

- Donations to bounty funds, dev personal addresses, dev wallet and giveaway fund, all count and are listed with the day when they were announced, from the day the donation is actually made (or I've been informed about it);

- All donations are added together and rank advanced accordingly;

- List is arranged by "earliest date of promotion to the level in question", then by "earliest date of promotion to the level N-1 (if applicable), etc.", then by "first to be added gets preference";

- The hero donators in the list (1st dan and up) get to add a personal message (name + text must fit in one line), furthermore their promotion date history is shown from the 1st dan up (if applicable);

- The superhero donators (4th dan and up) get 5 full lines of message (4th dan only 3 lines sorry) in italics (moderated by me);

- The eternal legendary donators (1 kilo club, 6th dan, crates of Diamonds), get:
  * 1 crate of Diamonds for every 1,000 XMR donated
  * one custom title per every 1,000 XMR above the first one
  * higher dan rank, so that (2k => 7th dan, 5k => 8th dan, ad inf)
  * to change their text at will
  * complimentary bottle of wine from my own cellars in Malla upon their introductory visit (my wine cellar is 80sqm, of 40 different wines);

- Donating time does not count towards this list (it makes practical problems of valuation, for example I would not work for less than $2k per hour - does that mean my writing this message earns me 1.5 crates of Diamonds?  ::) );

- There will be a separate Heroes of Work list that seeks to give glory to the ones donating their time, including the devs.

On poloniex : https://www.poloniex.com/balances
Click on Generate New Payment ID
Then you can either send directly using poloniex adding the payment ID or use your wallet adding the payment ID like this :

Donated 0.2 BTC As promised for the Nvidia Miner (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=656841.msg7608439#msg7608439)

Will leave it to the judge ;)

Also add me for a 200 XMR donation : Please Confirm so I can send , thank you

Good question.

I pledged 300 each to the open source GPU miner bounties, but those have not been paid so I did not include them above.

I just posted my intent to pay out my 300 XMR nv miner pledge on the GPU miner bounty thread. Unless I hear a reason not to this will go out soon.

yo gang!

I'd be in with 100 XMR. but just to make sure I dont fuck this up.

If I send from poloniex, i just follow theese steps, right?

1. create payment ID
2. enter adress of donation wallet & amount to send -> actually send!
3. tell rpietila and/or fluffpony my payment id to link it with this account

is that right or did i miss something?

cheers!

^send it with the payment ID. You could chose a payment ID of yours - it should be 64 characters (no more no less)
for example "MyPaymentIDMyPaymentIDMyPaymentIDMyPaymentIDMyPaymentIDMyPayment" without the quotes will do it.

How does the GPU miner bounties stack up ?

For every bounty you pledged, you convert the sum to XMR using the exchange rate of the day when pledged.
They may only be added to your total the day when you have paid the amount.

Using the days when pledged, you keep a running total. Every time it exceeds the dan threshold (of 20, 50, 100, 200, etc XMR), you advance a rank and the advance date to the previous rank is recorded.

Also add me for a 200 XMR donation : Please Confirm so I can send , thank you

If bounty donations count (and I don't see why they wouldn't), well I'm looking forward to my crates of diamonds.

Please add a pedigree of your donations, including the dates of advancing to each dan rank (if you want the history to be shown). It will be added to the front of the list promptly and glory goes to whom it is due.  :)

I would like to be added with perl as Donators of 50 XMR - 2nd dan monero heros with a stash of Silver

superresistant 2014-07-17
perl 2014-07-17

The pool pay automatically to the dev address but we donated manually before so we should be over 100 XMR donated.
So 50 XMR each.

Will sort some more of a donation out and will find out how much Ive already donated.

You can put me down for now as Donators of 20 XMR - 1st dan monero heros with a hoard of Copper

Thats conservative as Im sure I donated at least double that ages ago but from an old wallet I used at the beggining and no longer have access to. Cant prove it, unless someone can tell me a way?

Will add the 30 XMR later to upgrade level.

First, I want to thank you Risto for making this thread. I had donated a bit already, but on every bounty thread I was late at the party, so I was never featured on the donation list on the OP. I could have asked to be put there but... I couldn't get myself to do it. Didn't want other people to think I donated just to be put there. I did not. Nonetheless, it's a good feeling to be put there. It's a kind of reward to know that in the eyes of the community you did good.

So here are my small donation so far :

12 XMR here : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=589561.msg6736255;topicseen#msg6736255
18 xmr here:  https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=589533.msg7247760#msg7247760 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=589533.msg7247760#msg7247760)

I also donated 5 to the giveaway but it's been done through IRC so no records of that.

And I'll send now 78.777 XMR to the donation address so you know its me.

PS: it would be nice to add the address in the OP with the commands and everything :P

I want to donate 5 XMR. Do I just send it to the donation adress? How will you know it's from me?

Just send it, we will believe you. It is only when you claim to have sent for example 100 XMR, there needs to be some proof.

I will add you straight away! :)

Made the transaction of 5XMR at 2014-07-17 09:53:27
Thanks!

I want to donate 5 XMR. Do I just send it to the donation adress? How will you know it's from me?

Add a payment ID.
On poloniex : https://www.poloniex.com/balances
Click on Generate New Payment ID
Then you can either send directly using poloniex adding the payment ID or use your wallet adding the payment ID like this :

Code:
transfer 0 47sghzufGhJJDQEbScMCwVBimTuq6L5JiRixD8VeGbpjCTA12noXmi4ZyBZLc99e66NtnKff34fHsGRoyZk3ES1s1V4QVcB 5 0260000573afaacd67e95183ecd1a6693f6be146475db85e0dd079dbb3c3c33b

I used a payment id when I made the donation. Can send it for proof if needed :)

I donated about 22 XMR in a couple transactions when I started reading about Monero, buying some coins and testing out transactions.

Unfortunately I can't prove it anymore, I lost my old wallet because I was (and still am) really bad at all the technical stuff :D

Got my new wallet seed written down and the .keys file backed up now so it won't happen again.

That nuke_ is me. Smooth can confirm since i had sent by a stupid mistake 1000XMR to the donation wallet back then and smooth send me back and i donated some of those :)

I also donated 17 XMR for the OS pool: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=589533.0

I pledge to donate some more in a few days!

P.S. I like this thread because its like some sort of competition that makes you donate more :P

Thanks again for doing this Risto.  It is a great service to the community.

I am not sure if my total was clear.  I sent 35 previously and 20.01 today making 55.01.  Or perhaps you chose not to include the earlier 35?

Also there is a trailing quote tag after the address you added.

I know this is a hassle.  I wish I could help you manage it.

THANKS AGAIN.

It is very easy for you to start a new thread with the same name, (make it self-moderated to be safe), and copy the OP from this thread to your new one. Voilá! If you feel any burden to do it, I am happy to relinguish the responsibility! :)

I'm in India for another week or so, and while I do have remote access to my wallet, I prefer not to mess with it via hotel internet access... I'll be sending a largely rounded-up 1% of my Monero stash - hold your breath - an astounding 1 XMR!  ;D
In all seriousness, I have been mining and buying for the better part of the last 4 weeks, but the damn little coins are just hard to come by!  ;)

Not all is bad news though, contributions can take many forms, and I'll continue working on the FAQ and will add further materials to help the newcomers as soon as I've returned home. Big cheers to all the donors here, both big & small - this community rocks!

Paid 150 XMR for Nvidia GPU miner: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=656841.msg7899104#msg7899104

Paid 0.285 BTC on May 6 (tentative date pending wallet sync): https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=589533.msg6565832#msg6565832

Using smooth's trading thread (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=578192.0), average price that day was .0012417613 XMR/BTC, so this would be about 229.5 XMR. I can also prove ownership of the wallet, it's syncing now.

I'm considering keeping the rest of my donations private, save for the other two I have pledged for (see edit below - only gets more complicated)

edit: Just read this:

Quote from: rpietila
The donation date is the date when you published the willingness to surrender this money to development
Therefore my actual date of stated donation (although the amount is different) is here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=589533.msg6462013#msg6462013, and the proposed bounty at the time was $2500 on the bounty site (will look for link)

As this is confusing because I increased the amount, I guess I'll settle for when smooth posted it in the bounty thread.

I know it's not much, but I appreciate the work of fluffypony, tacotime, neozaru, tewinget, and everyone else who contributes to the coding and everything else!

I wish I could help you manage it.

It is very easy for you to start a new thread with the same name, (make it self-moderated to be safe), and copy the OP from this thread to your new one. Voilá! If you feel any burden to do it, I am happy to relinguish the responsibility! :)

I suggest someone considers to take the privilege of updating the list away from me. I will need to be away for the weekend (gulp!), and also afterwards I easily believe that someone else would be more suitable for the task. So if interested, ask me!

I don't have the access to the dev accounts (or any proprietary information) and did not seek special permission from the devs before starting the list. My analysis shows the coin has 2,700 owners that have 100+ coins (so are eligible to donate 1 XMR). If we assume that 5% actually do it, the thread with ~130 entries is still a very compact task :)

I will do it if you wish.  I may not update more than once a day.

Which makes me a first dan.

I quite like that.  As I understand it, in Japan first dan is traditionally considered to represent the level at which you understand the art well enough that you can understand and learn from watching others more skilled than you.

EDIT TO ADD: Unlike in the West where many regard first dan ("black belt") in martial arts as a high achievement, AIUI in Japan it is regarded as kind of the baseline of competence, and the beginning of the process of learning rather than the ultimate end.  By analogy, holding greater than 2,000 XMR should be considered to be just the beginning of my Monero journey... (Not that I'm currently accumulating further.  Happy with my current exposure and intend to HODL for the long haul.)

I am taking over the maintenance of this list for Risto.  Thank me by donating to the dev team.

Thank me for starting it and for the short tenure - yes, by donating to the dev team :)
