Title: [INF8] Infinium-8. Privacy-centric & CPU-mining

LAUNCHED 7/18/2014 12:00 UTC
CryptoNote (https://cryptonote.org/)-based digital currency

Infinium-8 (INF8) is a new privacy-centric coin using the CryptoNote protocol.
The open source reference implementation of CryptoNote was coded from scratch based on the CryptoNote reference implementation, and is not a fork of Bitcoin.

Infinium-8 aims to be a fungible and untraceable digital medium of exchange. It intrinsically has a higher degree of anonymity than Bitcoin or any of its various forks.

Features

  • Untraceable payments
  • Unlinkable transactions
  • Blockchain analysis resistance
  • Adaptive parameters

Details in the CryptoNote white paper (https://cryptonote.org/whitepaper.pdf)

Specifications

  • PoW algorithm: CryptoNight [1]
  • Max supply: Infinite
  • Block reward: increasing with difficulty growth [2]
  • Block time: 90 seconds
  • Difficulty: Retargets at every block

[1] CPU + GPU mining (about 1:1 performance for now). Memory-bound by design using AES encryption and several SHA-3 candidates.
[2] Deflation is a very serious problem for all cryptocoins because it prevents them from being used as payment mean. For most coins block reward decreases in time and this increases deflation rate. For PPC-    derived coins (PrimeCoin etc) the problem is even worse as soon as they offer difficulty-based block reward formula that makes block reward inversly proportional to difficulty (i.e. difficulty goes up and block reward goes down). Both practices are counterproductive.
Infinium-8 s the cryptocoin with blockreward increasing together with difficulty.
Block reward formula is a fixed point implementation of log2(difficulty). This means that block reward increases much slower than difficulty: for 1 coin to be added to block reward a difficulty must be increased twice. This rate looks to be reasonable
Block_reward = log2(difficulty) * 2^40

Great thanks. I have 5 computers with AMD processors that mostly do nothing was going to try this.

miner works best with aes-ni enabled, which is intel but it still should work.

can  not mine with AMD? ???
not yet

claymore miner will have to add this coin to there miner.

Sorry if this is more common knowledge, but I am new to mining this algo. So even minerd and other CPU miners won't work with an AMD CPU?
Thanks in advance for your help.

After the above comments that helped me I did more searching and found this for a friend that has a windows intel based system. Haven't tried it on my AMD rigs yet, but works on his system.  https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=632724 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=632724)

I have used hothash already and they seemed to be OK. Don't follow their information on miners though. They list CGminer and BFGminer; I'm sure those miners won't work on CryptoNote coins.

The tests are broken at the moment, but you can compile the binaries specifically:
make daemon
make simplewallet

The tests can't be compiled because the emission is infinite. I am working on it.

Guys got some noob questions here as I have never done cryptonote.

First I get wallet addresses but they look very large compared to addresses from other coins. Is this address valid?

inf8WxuMhuZaeVJiacwMQ7Z377CS8kXwxZhusQBLHELRBm8ZBGPMCXmikE4TGq5Tya75uPpfcpwDi1q JL2WGDHAH182Yckm1in

Second, if I start the infiniumd with this address and 8 which is the cores on that machine, I am then solo mining?

Third, it appears that infiniumd is opening port 27854 on that machine, but I have 3 more machines with 8 core vishera processors which I would like to point at that daemon. How do I start those machines to point there and mine under the same wallet address?

Fourth, if I wanted to point infiniumd to a pool I can't find the commands for that in the --help screen. Any tips?

Again, noob questions I now. Can you guys help a brother out?

Thanks.

pool mining is easiest, and I am not saying that just because I am a pool op.

All you do is get the minerd from wolf (for Linux) and then run the below command.

minerd -a cryptonight -o stratum+tcp://inf8.extremepool.org:5555 -u address -p x

Thanks for the help sir. I was actually solo mining on two machines and have found 3 blocks so far.  :o  I have figured out how to mine with the simple Infinium interface and actually as an IT guy I prefer it to GUIs. :)

I suspect that won't last for ever though. I used your example as well and mined against a pool and received coins back. So thank you for the information. Right now think I am going for the solo mining, but suspect I will be mining at your pool shortly.

Thanks again.

Hey guys.

Looks like the network is working okay. Been hitting blocks solo mining all night and today, was able to transfer coins between wallets and they move pretty quickly.  ;D

So what's the plan? Where are we going with this? Looks pretty stable so far but not a lot of posters here.

Any bites from exchanges yet?

Just would like to know where we are going with this coin.

Be good all.

Yes agree with you MinerMario "Just would like to know where we are going with this coin"

Yesterday i try to talk about INF8 on poloniex trollbox and people are answered directly is not interresting because there is an infinite number of coin. They do not find it interresting and think it will have no value.

That is why there is no support for INF8.

It would certainly change something to make INF8 attractive, such as establishing a maximun number of coin.

Man it would be a damn shame if this coin is left to rot. It seems to be technology wise quite stable from launch and that's a great thing. Is there no interest at all? Dev did you read the comments above? Any chance of limiting the number of coins?

Hope to hear something about where we are going from here.

the point of the coin is to have no limit, so why would you now want to limit the amount of coins.  That doesn't' make any sense.

The truth is that many coins have an infinite supply, though they don't advertise it. Any coin that has a constant interest rate after a period of time (most POS coins) has an infinite supply. Having an infinite supply isn't necessarily a problem. A good approach would be to calculate what happens to the coin supply after say 10-20 years.

@Developer
The last part of the formula

Block_reward = log2(difficulty) * 2^40(difficulty)

isn't clear to me. Could you explain it more clearly? Does it mean (2^40) * difficulty?

Thank you for the notice, I mistyped. This is the valid formula

Block_reward = log2(difficulty) * 240

Need to keep the estimate of the coin at a stable level. The less it falls the more we earn. Also, pumps and dumps deteriorate the image of a coin as a mean for payment. We can never avoid the exchange rate from moving but we can diminish it's impact. So we use the infinite emission to tackle So we use the infinite emission to tackle the deflation problem (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deflation).

The formula of block reward is log2(difficulty)*2^40. Ergo, the block reward increases slower than the difficulty. This ensures the Infinium-8 stability.

I don't want to do anything except see some interest in the coin. I am really thrilled with these CPU only coins and this one seems to work quite well right from the start. I think the other poster above threw out some points and they are worth discussing, and so have you guys since. An active forum is good.

The block explorer coming would be outstanding. Waiting for the news.

The formula of block reward is log2(difficulty)*2^40. Ergo, the block reward increases slower than the difficulty. This ensures the Infinium-8 stability.

Okay, it's worth it to keep watching. The investment to get in is small, just a little juice for the CPU, and so far you have done a pretty good job with your launch.

Just one more question. Correct me if I am wrong but it seems in all the excitement of launch no one bothered to ask the first question of crypto and your OP doesn't state it that I can see. Will the block explorer show a premine/instamine? If so how large?

Crossing fingers nothing unreasonable. I can ramp up some more hash for CPU mining this coin but I don't want to spend the electricity if there is a huge premine or instamine hanging out there.

FYI for miners. I have been solo mining this for 1 1/2 days now and still finding blocks. Have 3 AMD 8 core Vishera working on it and have found about 65-70 blocks so far. Not sure how that would add up against pool mining yet but will try that tomorrow and see what is more effective.

But you *can* still solo mine this coin with relatively little hardware.

Be good.

Certainly some information that the developer should hear and take into advisement. What do you think dev?

Increasing mining reward is a great idea!

What happens right now with XMR is that I make a lot more money by trading than by mining. At it's start I did make a lot by mining.

Traders are still useful, because somebody needs to buy the coin back, but traders making a lot more than miners, makes it a pump and dump coin, making mixing with it very expensive.

Less incentive for traders will make the value more steady, even if it's steadily decreasing, because of infinite supply, if it happens at a very low pace, I think it's good.

So this coin may turn out to be good, after all.

+1 from me !

PS: a dedicated exchange for it might be a good idea, maybe the guy who had cryptonote.exchange.to could help, if busoni doesn't

Thanks!

I've sent requests on Hitbtc, Polo and Swaphole.

I have yet another idea that might be good for this coin.
The transaction fees should also increase as difficulty increases. It makes perfect sense, more hash power, more expensive transactions, since the miners put up a lot more resources to make this happen.
And I'm thinking of this because log2 increases very slowly after a while. Well at least it increases and not decreases.

Did you make any graphs on how the reward would increase as difficulty rises?

The transaction fees should increase in a more linear fashion. Say to make block reward + (average tx fees per block over the last n blocks) = a total reward that goes up more linearly.  Hash power costs money so it needs to be paid for.

Once again since it's a mixing coin, it's only fair that the people mixing should be paying this fee, and the miners who provide the service should get paid.
For the end user that's mixing, it's all the same, if the miners don't get it, the traders will. Traders make it fluctuate, so the end user ends up paying exponentially more, as soon as more coins end up in the traders' wallets.
Then mining may become no longer be profitable and the coin will die, then we have to start another bubble coin, where only the early miners make some real money.

Everything you've written is correct. This is envisaged in all currencies, even in Bitcoin.

There's the mining services market. Some miners are greedy and want to get as big a reward as possible. So they choose transactions which maximizes their incomes. Miners receive only the fee from transactions, which means that they maximize the amount of the fee. If mining stops being profitable, they will start accepting transactions with a large fee.

The decision is within the responsibility of the miners community. Also, if only a half of the miners accept this decision, this will decrease the speed of cheap transactions. I think it's too early to make such decisions.

Interesting point. Then I am curious why they still accept small fee transactions, mining isn't all that profitable.
In fact I think that was the idea behind halving the reward in the first place, so why no pools raise their fees, I dunno...

I didn't notice in simplewallet any option where to set the transaction fee. Does CryptoNote even have this feature? I haven't really looked through the sources.

Also, I think there was a thing when if the blocksize was too large on XMR and QCN the reward was reduced significantly. Now after they raised the fee to 0.005 the problem disappeared, though I'm not sure if there was any connection, maybe just the update itself fixed the problem.  That was ridiculous, if processing transactions reduces your reward, why process any at all? Unless, the fees are greater than the block reward perhaps.

Theoretically can rebuild several lines of the code and renew the binaries and then can state the desired transaction fee. you can see that in the code if you look attentively.

This means that the fee is stated not in simplewallet itself but manually in the code.

Infinium-8 has joined the CryptoNote family

CryptoNote team has diligently reviewed the request from Infinium-8 and the decision has been made to announce the new coin as the CryptoNote currency. Infinium-8 is endowed with every characteristic essential to a true CryptoNote-based coin. What’s particularly interesting about this coin is that it offers an infinite emission. We think of this feature as a curious economic experiment and are going to be tracking its development closely.

Infinium-8 has been discussed in the thread named rpietila Altcoin Observer (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=624223). I would like to reflect their opinion here.

Quote from: anonymous
Infinium-8 just released is the first cryptonote to have inflation but no other features

They have chosen an interesting inflation peramater
Block_reward = log2(difficulty) * 2^40

Essentially the block reward increases linearally with difficulty.
The inflation on this coin will still effectivally go to zero but not nearly as fast as those with only a fixed block reward like dogecoin.

log2 (2^x) = x

log10(10^x) = x

log2(10^x) = x / log10(2)

Thus we see that exponential growth (K^x) is converted to linear growth using a log of any base, not just logK. The base K is only a constant factor (as shown by the / log10(2)).

So they convert an assumed exponential growth in hashrate to a linear growth in nominal debasement rate.

Edit: they are increasing the nominal debasement rate, not decreasing it as most coins do. If the hashrate growth eventually slows, then the percentage rate of debasement must decline asymptotically towards 0,
This statement probably false since the power of computers is growing constantly - Infinium8

but early on the curve is much less favorable to early adopters and thus more fair and theoretically better for the network effects.

Edit#2: it rewards adding more hashrate to the system which is good for security. But a doubling of the hashrate at much higher nominal levels has a much less increase on nominal debasement, e.g. log(4) / log(2) = 2 and log(16) / log(8 ) = 1⅓.

Just a quick question ...

I started solo mining INF8 last night - Win 7 64bit Phenom using 4 of my 6 cores, with infiniumd.exe and simplewallet.exe as described.  In about 18 hours, the infiniumd window shows 11 blocks found, but simplewallet says zero for both "balance" and "unlocked balance"  ???

Is there any way I can check what has happened to the blocks found - surely, I should see some credits going to the address generated by simplewallet.exe, which is "inf8eXn6kxm2Rv92EGyjNmPDMWwTczPHdQjuaeah5QRu5kDiWC6a7KTADRnoifiMB1fmnHUqiqAUWep AJZTtotBQ57TwGsrfX1" ?

By the way - it's an awfully long address, so be sure I copied and pasted it from the infinium.address.txt file in the folder, so I'm pretty sure no typo is involved!

Many thanks - looks like a great coin, if I ever see any!!!

Blocks found, and blocks that YOU found are different things. If you found them they would show up in your simplewallet.exe. Just type refresh.

Ahhh !!!!   Just typed "refresh" in simplewallet; now it's showing a balance of 226   ;D
I didn't realize that the wallet didn't automatically update itself...  Maybe that little fact should be included somewhere in the instructions to cater for idiots like me.   ::)

Thank you, MinerMario !

that is not a bad start price, but we can do better than that!

also, what is format in simplewallet to transfer?

transfer amount address ?

not sure what mixin_count means?

mixin_count is a Cryptonote term used for the amount of different nodes the transactions goes through.. the higher the more anonymous the tx is.

Try to sync blockchain again. To do this, delete all files with blockchain. What's your OS?

You're right, all the files contain blockchain. You need to close the daemon, delete them and then run the daemon once again. I've corrected the messages so that people could use my advice.

Please write here so I make sure the issue is sorted out.

Hmm, looks like Monero fork because of some reason...  ::)

Is there some place or thread except alt2bit where we can sell/trade Inf-8?
And what is the current price of the coin?

Check price here https://www.alt2bit.com/. I also can do an OTC if the community considers this necessary.

You can make OTC so people can offer coins for sale. alt2bit have no volume.

Solo mined this for awhile since I have some powerful CPUs, but don't see any forward movement. Anything on the radar? Anything to check back in on while I hold my bag?

Isn't what makes bit/altcoins so valuable is that there is a finite supply of them? Having an Infinite coin supply means that that miners will be the one who suffer if the coin ever had to be pick up in trend.. In the future, the only people that would be able to mine it would be those that have a large amount of mining resources or mine with a large pool.

The value of cryptocoins is derived from the level of encryption (that is, difficulty). It has nothing to do with the supply limit which is probably a technical issue. In the future, coins with limited supply will have a big problem - no one will have an interest in mining them because there will be no reward.

Blockchain height = 53234
Coins emitted = 1.160 M

this is not a bitcoin fork, its from the cryptonote family.
I see that you don't have any cryptonote coins on your exchange to begin with, so it will require some effort in order to implement it into your exchange, but once you do, you can add monero(XMR) which goes to like 300BTC volume in some days and ducknote(XDN), and the others.

also please note, that this coin has an anonimizing feature, therefore receiving payments will be done to a single address, but marked with payment id. check out poloniex, bittrex, hitbtc, they all have cryptonote coins in there.

now the second problem is getting the peers, the ones in the source code are no longer valid.
you will need to contact the users who voted for it and ask them to provide the p2pstate.bin file, which is found in the ~/.infinium folder or %APP_DATA%\infinium  on windows, I assume

you will need boost1.55 to compile it
you can compile it on ubuntu14, or well anything that has boost1.55, cmake etc... let me give you the commands to build it on ubuntu 14

apt-get install cmake libboost1.55-all-dev
^^ these are required

apt-get install build-essential
^^ you problably already have this one

apt-get install libssl-dev libdb++-dev libminiupnpc-dev
^^ these ones may be for btc forks though

and then just go into the infinium folder and
make

Like for instance, put valid nodes in the source. And increase tx fee.

Any other ideas, you guys wanna see in this coin?

I mean it's a shame not to continue it now, it's on minergate, cryptonote website, had an exchange :)...
I can still see potential in it.

So go ahead, post some stuff in the thread, why let it die.... Anybody who voted on askcoin... drop a line here

I voted for this coin on the Askcoin.com too.

And I keep mining it, because it can fly to the moon!

But we of course need some other voting on the bigger exchange.

Askcoin is a small project - so they can't integrate Cryptonote
coin to their list. They asked for help on this thread, but nothing
happened - because it's too difficult for them!

But we won that voting! So there is an interest for Inf-8 coin!

We must get to the Poloniex or Hitbtc.

Let's do it together guys!

Is there a future for Infinium-8?

#Costicam Do you have any plans to resume development of  Infinium-8 , ass you wrote earlier?

/ Nimos

I dunno, if there would be any interest in it, I could
#Costicam please  resume development of  Infinium-8 ,  make  road map, and
interest will come, only for active development coin.

Perhaps i can help with some development... I will look at the source code next week and look at what can be done immediately and what requires a little more time. I do not have unlimited time, unfortunately, so have some patience. And i hope that someone else (costicam maybe  ;) ) also can help whit development. I would appreciate suggestions and comments, especially on the roadmap and the proposed changes and additions below.

Roadmap: (Draft)

- Fix valid nodes in source
- Increase transaction fee *
- New thread Bitcointalk
- New Website
- New Logotype/Name ?
- Translate and continue to inform about the coin in English, German, French and Spanish.
- WinGUI Wallet
- Implemented, dual sign, etc. (as other crypto night currencies already done)
- Try to solve the problem with bootnet that others currencys experience
- implement Gold Reserve to stabilize the currency se below

* The fee should be a certain percentage of the amount transferred not fixt. (YES 0,005%) (NO 0,0005 FIX)

Suggestions for a big change: Create a Gold Reserve as described below. **

How does it work:

50% of the block reward goes to fund the Gold Reserve.

If 10 million coins are created over time X then 5 million coins goes to the miner and 5 million coins goes to gold reserve.. If the value is $ 0.01 for each coin, it gives $ 50 000 to Gold Reserve. If gold price $ 1,230 / ounce (23.7 grams). $ 50 000 = 963 grams of gold. That 0.0000963 g gold for each coin when 10 million coins is in circulation. The gold must obviously be kept by independent trusted third party. (Unlimited Gold Coin)

** Have planned for a fork with this function + unlimited number of coins but thought it may be possible to implement this here instead of creating a new currency.

But I promise nothing . I do not want to make any promises I can not keep!!

They need to implement support for Crypto Note currencies in forex trading before they can add INF-8.
Have not received an answer on how long it can take...

Has received message from a mining pool that is interested in adding INF-8, will be back with more information.

Have gone through the source code and thinking about the easiest would be to clone moneros code base and adapt it to our preferences . In this way , we get a good new start and can then begin to think about which way we want the currency to be developed.

But that is all what we know  ;)

P.S. And yes... there is no exchange now :)

Too bad not so much happened with INF8; it was an very interesting experiment but I don't think it got the attention it needed to be able the experiment successful (whether verify or falsify).

I believe I have a few million of these. PM me if you are interested in them as an incentive to start the development again.

Inf-8 coin has the biggest Hashrate - during last several months NOW!

And it's still rising.

HitBTC silently added DSH coin 2 week ago - maybe they can do the same with Inf-8?

Any opinions?

It seems that the INF8 project is definitely dead and not developed.
But I am interested in this currency for my project.
Is there anyone who can give me more information?

The first problem is I'm not even sure if the blockchain inf8 anywhere exists?

I have a problem with infinumd:

Don't know whether it works, but found this on the forum MonetaVerde, they write that everything works, there are screenshots, can you provide a link
Code:
Download the simplewallet for your OS

Once you've unzipped/installed it, do the following:

Go ahead and run 'infiniumd' daemon (or for windows - infiniumd.exe)
When you get the failed to connect message, exit the daemon
Find your new '.infinium' folder (in windows it is in Appdata)
Rename 'p2pstate.bin' to 'p2pstate.old' - or just delete it.
Now, go back and run the daemon using the following command:
./infiniumd --add-peer  176.9.47.243:8680 --add-peer  148.251.51.113:8680 --add-peer  216.119.175.110:27854 --add-peer  176.9.147.178:8680 --add-peer 71.12.170.103:27854 --add-peer 76.115.58.143:2785

Located on the first page of this thread.

June 30, 2018 is the last day to get your coins out of MinerGate.

This is for you who have run out of time or who is looking for a way to save their coins at the last minute.
If you were never able to get a working wallet up and running and synced to the blockchain with the daemon, I can help you save your coins.

I have a working wallet up and running synced to the blockchain. You can send your coins from MinerGate to my wallet and when you get a working wallet up and running I will send you back your coins. Why am I doing this? Because it's better than MinerGate getting them. I am doing this for my community as well, as many are in this same boat I've described.
You must let me know how many you sent, when you sent them and show me a screen shot of the MinerGate transaction. Keep in mind that I'm only trying to help you. I don't want your coins nor am I trying to scam you out of your coins. I just don't see any alternative and definitely don't want MinerGate to keep them. Those coins are yours. Good Luck! I wish you the best.

community not available (https://forum.getmonetaverde.org/topic/170-about-infinium-8/), exchange is not available (https://www.alt2bit.com/), blockchain dl page not avail (https://forum.getmonetaverde.org/files/file/8-blockchain-inf8-26-jun-2018/)... how is this coin alive and well?
Is it trading anywhere? is there a live discord or telegram or twitter account?

Original announcement (page 1) shows pool infinium.xminingpool.com (dead page), 2nd pool listed redirected me to a real estate page http://inf8.extremepool.org, so that's dead also, and 3rd pool listed also dead https://yaymining.com/infinium/...

The pools at minercountry work fine :) HOWEVER
the wallet wont sync... all peers say last seen never.. so sure, i have a wallet address, and private key, but no way to load current wallet/balance/send coin  and apparently no exchanges for coin either?

Please advise?

I don't understand I would like to join the project if I could get paid more often and there was a exchange to trade the coin for ethereum or bitcoin I would like ethereum as my go to place. where is the website for this?

Where is the exchange?  Why was there so many projects created in 2014 then abandoned but google points to bitcointalk.org constantly for all unrealivant abandoned projects why do you guys get so much web traffic for broken and bad ideas I don't think you should be compensated for such poor intelligence.

Infinium-8 HardFork
Hello, i am Jacob and i am new developer of infinium. If you are from infinium-8 community, you can look at the new hardfork

Changes in the hardfork:

Halved block reward, Rebased the coin from cryptonote core to bytecoin core. Disabled Merged Mining. Fixed inflation bug, so nobody can double-spend infinium anymore. Speeded up synchronization.

You can swap your old wallet with infinium to the new blockchain with https://github.com/Infinium-dev/OldKeysExporter (https://github.com/Infinium-dev/OldKeysExporter)
