Your coins are fine and still valid because they left the original wallet and went to yours at launch.

Only coins remaining in the original pre-mine address are affected.

You should update your wallet before you plan on receiving more Quebecoins.

All the new wallet does is prevent millions of pre-mined coins from being dumped onto the market.

They have been very supportive.

Volume is back above 0.1 BTC which is the minimum volume Bittrex wants to see.
So if we keep hovering around that it should be fine.

Count on me for contributing. Id be willing to share quite a lot of QBC for this.

A few weeks ago I cashed in some RDD to systematically buy a pack of every coin that has a matching Android wallet. It is surprising that a lot of these coins are very little known... But does it matter? When I meet someone and want to show them how crypto works, the easiest way is to get them to install a wallet and send them free coins right then and there! (Okay... they have to parse the entire blockchain so it's not as instant as it sounds but still...) It's fun and impressive!

I cannot stress how important it is for us to have a way to share our QBCs in person. I think that independent coffee shops, as well as independent retailers of Quebec-made goods online and off, could be our very first retailers next year. I would also like to figure out a way to get some artisans to accept QBC at the Christmas artisan fair at Bonaventure in December 2014. We're going to need good write-ups, tutorials and documentation. Right now, the alt coin with the most bad-ass web setup is Potcoin POT. This is a Quebec-based project as well!

For that we need an Android wallet! (iOS should be done as well but I prefer to see others navigate the new guidelines before that)

- It cannot be a web wallet (those things blow!)
- It has to be in French (I can help translate!)
- It should be able to sweep private keys (not all wallets do this right now, the Dogecoin wallet does)

I will gladly contribute QBCs for this as well.

The problem for me is that I have never coded for android system and java is not my favorite langage. But, since this morning I'm trying to understand How darkcoin android wallet is working.

So for sure I'm not the best person to build this wallet but if nobody want to do it, I will try to understand....

Small steps, but I wonder how much it would cost for someone who knows how to do a good wallet, to just get at it and make one for QBC?

- Time is money - and with that train of thought, "learning" isn't cheap. Unless you're having a lot of fun doing so, we might be better all chipping in for a solid wallet. I don't know?

I wrote to HashEngineering who developed the Darkcoin wallet. Most Android wallets in existence were developed by HashEngineering! Base price is 2 BTC but that's for a scrypt wallet. I requested the features listed above which will return a different quote.

Today there was 0.2 BTC of volume on Bittrex. This is more than twice the average traffic we get in a day. Your confidence in QBC is awesome! After a month of buying all the low ball QBC dumped everyday, I took a break today!

But I did post some examples of the paper wallet on our new official home Quebeco.in I tried to find non cheesy photos indicative of Quebec among my own pictures but... errr... nope. I have this template ready if you would like to submit designs for the background picture.

The limecoin java library from HashEngineering is probably the one that is the closest to quebecoin.  It's got x11, and dgw2 in there.  But no front end wallet.  It might be a good starting point.

Yes I saw it and looked at android wallet all the day. For sure I have not enough knowledge to do it. My speciality is more it security and c coding. I think it will be better to buy directly the android wallet to hashengineering :(

Just to let everyone know, there's now a big bid for QBC on Bittrex @ 700 satoshis exactly. Looks like the bidder either wants a lot of QBC or wants to wake the volume up. If the entire order goes through, it'll mean close to 0.5 BTC volume.

I noticed that there was a lot of dumping last week and a lot of low ball order setting. As I have been doing for the past month, I buy all under 500 and I have sold a considerable amount of high-value coins to do that.

The last big order I bought was 10K QBC at 200sat. And I felt kind of bad for the person who gave that up given the upcoming fork but I am going to give away these QBC at some point as bounty or in the faucet.

There should be very little QBCs available at a low price after that 65K order is filled.

There's still 14,000(?) some QBC mined every day as far as I remember. That 7XX Satoshi order brought QBC at the top of the X11 mining profitability coin. We'll likely see the net hash and the difficulty increase as more pool/multi jumps on it, and dump their QBC. Could take a week until that order fills up.

Not a bad thing in it self, but I'm thinking some of our small time miner don't benefit from this big wall.

First of all, a confession. "That person [who] ups it to keep it in priority" is me. I didn't identify myself at the time because I wanted to stay anonymous.

But after I posted my notification here, a strange thing has happened. Every now and then, I have gotten conceited enough to imagine I could wake up a thinly-traded vehicle with thin order book and wide spread by placing a big order at the low ask and even the second-low ask. I was hoping to "paint the tape" by showing a nice jump that would wake the vehicle up.

It never worked! My buy always turned into a blip, after which the vehicle fell back to its listlessness and lower price. So I gave up on that vanity, learning the hard way that it was nothing more than a sucker's fancy.

With this in mind, I placed my 0.5 BTC bid well above the high bid but below the low ask. Just enough to narrow the spread. I was counting on the miners who point their mining equipment at their Bittrex deposit addresses to fill my order in small chunks - at 700 satoshis.

But after I did so and called attention to it here, an odd thing happened - really odd, given my prior "teachable moments." I found myself in a footrace, raising my bid in mostly small increments again and again as my bid sunk in the bidstack. I held off upping my bid for a time, hoping QBC would fall back, but it didn't. At least it didn't fall enough for me to pick up more at my price.

I have picked up some overall, but mostly at a higher price than the 700 I was set on. Right now, I have an outstanding bid at 803 satoshis for 50,000 QBC. None of it has been filled and the low ask is 874. The low ask at the time I started was actually well below my bid now, and the ask has little volume.

Given my prior experience, this is odd for me. I'm not even cheering. Instead, I'm scratching my head. I did buy to average down from the bagholder's IPO price I paid, but I also placed that big bid to see what would happen. And right now, what's happening strikes me as more odd than cheery (even though, objectively, I should be heartened.)   

I just picked up 1072 QBC, doubling my holdings to just over 2000.  I used my daily 0.01 BTC mining earnings for the exchange on bittrex.

Good for you. It looks like ny big-bid quasi experiment had lucky timing.

I am not very well versed in market lingo. I do not even know whether it's a good or bad thing that the price is going up. However, if supply of QBC has gone down twenty fold, then the price should be 20 times more than 450 (median price in July before fork). However, no alt price makes any sense at this point. I mean the very best alt coin, Reddcoin (RDD), is only 30 satoshis in a dizzying world of copy-pasted coins that have no real value.

I costs only USD 130 of bitcoins to buy QBC up to 1700 at this point so somebody with a modest budget wants QBC, well there aren't that many to be had quite frankly.

I am just looking forward to when your IPO purchase price is restored (7000 satoshis).

I'm holding and not buying for now so all I can do is eat popcorn while watching the show.

Maybe we can make a game out of it (with a Counterparty (XCP) oracle system type of thing like on XCPfeeds.info).

There isn't a lot of miner dumping Quebecoin. It hasn't made sense to mine QBC for the past 2 months unless you plannned hold them, and rare were those daring to mine and hold a coin as risky as it was.

QBC went totally off the map/radar during that period. Now that it's safe, I can see people (myself included) placing bigger buy order, and actually leaving them there without stressing that JP could cash out on a few more QBC before truely fucking off.

As I said before, and it's even more true now, QBC is hovering at the top of x11 mining profitability. Watch in the next week(s), net hash is gonna go up, pools are gonna start stealing blocks from the honest QBC-miners. They'll dump their coin, our order will fill up, the difficulty will climb and everthing will stabilise.

I am well-versed, and the inevitable 'expertitis' seems to be affecting my language. :) It's really insidious how you start using jargon, quite sincerely, as if they were words in the micro dictionary.

As for market cap calculations, they don't do much good in a "hot-or-not" party. Economic fundamentals are really blurred for crypto, to the point where common sense says there aren't any at all atm, so what matters is demand. And, of course, why the demanders demand.

Were you buying Reddcoin when it was in the 4-5 satoshis ditch? If so, our minds met.

More like before most of it was filled. :( I just had to up the rest to 1100 satoshis after waiting at 805 to see if last night's pullback would pull back enough to hit it. It didn't.

So you were right...but at least I got ~13,000 QBC below 805. Maybe next time I should just shut up completely...

Thanks for the advice, ghonyme, but I want to see what will happen as I adjust. Granted that I've been frustrated twice by two pullbacks that didn't touch my bid, but this buy of mine is turning into an interesting trader's experiment.

I am trying out betarigs for the first time today.  I rented a 28 MH/s mining rig (for 12 hours) to mine Quebecoin at the cryptobec pool.  It is obviously a big leap from the CPU mining of QBC that I have done so far.  I just found my first block.

Actually, I should have taken your advice in retrospect. After seeing QBC climb up to > 1400, I lost patience and withdrew my remaining BTC, and the QBC I did buy, from Bittrex. Both are now in my wallet.

So, because of the ramp-up which was too fast for my taste, I now have a little more than half of the 0.5 BTC I planned to put into QBC. And instead of the total ~110,000 QBC I was hoping some accommodating bagholder would dump on me at 700 ;) , I now have a total of ~67,000 and a little more than 0.25 BTC. So I have to say that my little experiment is over.

And there has been a side benefit! I don't know how much of this had to do with me, but QBC volume is well over <= 0.1 BTC per day. Its 24h vol now varies between 0.3 and 0.4 BTC. So, Bittrex is going to be much less interested in delisting QBC for lack of volume.  :)

All's well that ends well...   

Yeah, been busy with other things (doing some Dev work on MazaCoin) and hadn't been keeping up with QBC.  Unfortunately it looks like I sold most of mine while it was low.  But still hope the coin can do well now that it has more active devs.

Now below 1200 satoshis...this pullback was stronger than the others. Still, it would have to fall to well below 1000 before I'd be "interested in" buying the rest I wanted to buy.

Also the 24h volume's fallen. That's actually a good sign. Since it takes two to tango, it means there's less available supply from active sellers below 1200.

This is getting really interesting. QBC's enjoying an uptrend right now that basic technical analysis says is solid.

I think that at the moment  the key would be to offer up something with more universal appeal.  Such as gift cards.  I made an offer to do this a few days after the initial release, but it was still too early for anyone to want to think that far ahead.  The seller would need to be willing to take a loss, since the value of Quebecoin isn't stable at this point.  It is going to be a long shot to be able to sell something for Quebecoin that is specialized like a tool or books by a specific author, when meanwhile the few people who are holding quebecoins are probably interested in something completely diferent.   

But remember that really, anything can be bought / sold for QBC. Only need the receiver to be interested about it. Some folks paid 10,000 Bitcoins for a pizza not so long ago lol.

Yes!! I also contacted all my trading clients to get all thos RDD I've been buying in May-June to take them out and stake them.
Curious to see how much this is going to render but I don't run my computer 24/7 and my spouse and I both have RDDs to stake sooo... Need a machine just for staking now LOL

Since the beginning of POSV I have earned 4673 RDD from 2.4 million RDD.  Based on the current ask of 24 satoshis, that amounts to about 65 cents.  Not bad considering that I am only getting about $3 of BTC weekly from my 1.4 MH/s Fury on clevermining, and probably less than $2 a week at this point for each technobit HEX16A2 miner.  Noticing that my bitcoin earnings have sharply declined over the past few days on BTC Guild.  So it is good to find an alternative to expensive bitcoin mining that never breaks even.   

I am noticing a very large buy order for quebecoin right now on bittrex.  Someone wishing to pick up just under 40,000 QBC.  At the moment it would be difficult to put that many coins together.

Throw a 200$ buy wall at the right satoshi and it becomes profitable for people to mine QBC for a few days :D.

The first and larger bid was mine; the second was someone else's. We later got into a footsie race as we each raised our bids by tiny bits. As of now, I'm out of the market after finally throwing in the proverbial towel and buying the rest of my haunch at the ask.

So, my IPO-stake of 40,875 QBC is now a little less than 90,500 QBC. Call me when it hits 10,000 satoshis.  :P

Yesterday and again today I noticed a new user on the crytpobec pool, username RF418, who has a consistent speed just a tad under 50 Mh/s.  I am not sure if that is his own equipment or if he is renting it.  I put some of my PB mining weekly BTC earnings into Betarigs X11 miners, and am temporarily pumping out a lot of coins.

The Bittrex warning that Québecoin is in danger of being delisted due to lack of user interest and low trading volume has disappeared.

Yes but the volume is only 0.06 BTC since yesterday....

One problem that we have which could easily be fixed is that we need to optimize our google search results for Québecoin, so that relevant information about our subject is closest to the top.  The links to the original site are still at the top, but they are now taking us to a dead link.  So these will eventually get taken out of the search.  One day to be only seen using the Wayback Machine.  We might also want to push some of those April news reports further to the bottom, because the early media coverage of cryptocurrencies tend to be unhelpful.   Right now I need to enter Québecoin and fork into the search in order to get to the new discussions.  A key tool to help educate people, which is very cheap, would be a well written wikipedia entry for Québecoin.  That could also be a case where you make a point of making the French version slightly more detailed than the English one.

Also, I was trying google searches to find results in which individuals are making reference to their own Québecoin address.  I think I was only able to find one.

And the volume is still showing a little above 0.06 BTC today.  And that is despite the fact that the top google search for Québecoin still leads to the now defunct original website.  Also despite the fact that we don't yet have a wikipedia entry, and very limited information on the internet about our coin beyond this bitcointalk thread and our little discussion forum with 23 members.  That also means that somebody other than me was buying up Québecoin today, since I didn't visit Bittrex since yesterday.  So I believe that we at least have a starting point to build upon.

I went from the original 22 or so coins I received back in April for retweeting a promotional message about Québecoin on twitter, to now having over 10,000 QBC.  It is still a very modest starting point, but I did get the the message about Québecoin.  And at least a few others have as well.  

Regarding search optimization, maybe @Same same can give us some tips.  ;D


Indeed. Now it's all about slow progress. It'll take time but I have no doubt the community will grow slowly. People will come and go, some will stick around more actively than others - and this is all right. We have years a head of us to try things and experiment. Just a matter of time till more Quebecers hear about cryptos and hopefully they'll come cross QBC. I'll be there, ready to share some!

Yesterday, I sold some Québecoin for the first time on the bittrex exchange.  I am noticing that it takes well over an hour for the deposit to show up in the bittrex QBC wallet.  There is a page that explains that it takes a minimum of 20 confirmations for deposits of Québecoin.  Yet I am looking at 46 confirmations, and the deposit is still pending over an hour later.  That is another bottleneck that can hinder trading.

Google has removed the old Québecoin homepages from the Québecoin search results.  Both the English and French pages for the coin launch were the top two results in our search just a couple days ago.  That has been replaced with the bitcointalk thread. No, not this one, the other one.  Eventually we also would like to see  Quebeco.in begin to appear within the first page of the search results.  We will gradually see some search optimization take shape.

I wouldn't worry, since many of them make plenty of grammatical errors.  It's a mixed bag, some of them are French language professionals, while others are simply content with being themselves.  Many of them just barely have the computer literacy needed to get on the internet and follow that facebook group.  So it would be wishful thinking that you could sell to that particular type the idea that they could figure out and manage cryptocurrency wallets.  Although perhaps their children or grandchildren.


I was looking back at what we were doing just after the Québecoin IPO.  There were free Québecoins given away to those people who retweeted a message about Québecoin.  I think the problem with that approach is that down the line there is still no vision about how those people would be able to use those coins for any sort of practical purpose.   Also, it excludes all but those who had the technical chops to navigate how to set up a crypto wallet and then go through all the steps involved with receiving and sending coins.  In my opinion we should also try to include a certain number of people who have no clue how to do any of this, and put the whole gamut of our crypto resources at their disposal.  

Initially, the uses for Québecoin are very limited.  I am thinking that the very first use could be as tipping feature on a website that has uniquely Québecois content.  The owner of the webpage could add something at the bottom such as: "if you found this information useful, feel free to make a tip...I accept Québecoins".  Even though at first the only people who will be able to tip their page would be us.  It would communicate the concept to other visitors who could then click on a link that would explain what Québecoin is, and how they can participate in it's development.

Once a certain amount of Québecoin tips have been accumulated, one of us could exchange it for bitcoin on bittrex.com and use it to order something for the website owner (who perhaps doesn't know how to do any of that sort of thing).  It would probably only be something modest like a box of pens or a memory stick, since we don't have a lot of bitcoin weight yet.  

Thanks for the heads-up. I already use his Worldcoin Wallet :) I have written to him with requirements and request a proposal. It would be nice to have the wallet before the Holidays.

I just helped to bring it above the 0.1 BTC threshold by putting a sell order in that was closer to the ask than the other orders.  Clearly we can't manage to keep it going ourselves, however it does appear as though this market has picked up in the past couple weeks.

The average during last 24hours is now 0.07BTC.

I noticed this, it fluctuates over time.  A little while after you posted this, it shot back up to 0.0849BTC.

And now over 12 hours later it is up over 0.2BTC.  I have stopped trying to run very big mining rigs, and am sticking with more modest ones in the 20 MH/s range so that I can focus more attention on trading QBC on bittrex.

I was experimenting with mining X11 coins for the first time, and soon reached that same conclusion.  So now I have moved on to occasionally renting smaller rigs for short runs, and running the CPU miner.  I would at least be participating in mining to some degree, while focusing mosty on the  opportunity to use Bittrex exchange.

Yes, but it was also inevitable, since the interest level in this coin is currently low.  There is no way to sustain the minimum trading volume that Bittrex demanded.  Getting a handful of people to artificially inflate the trading volume would also be a waste of our limited resources at this time.  Bittrex is very inflexible in that respect, sink or swim.  

That makes sense. Anyway's it's listed elsewhere. ;)

Tres belle comparaison, ca ma fais réfléchir. Avec un peu de chance, quelques curieux finiront par tomber sur notre "sport" et voudront pratiquer la crypto québécoise. ;)

Les temps a venir vons être dure, ca va être silencieux un boute. Va falloir essayer de parler un peu de nous quand BTC va commencer a faire jaser dans nos alentour. Avec les nouvelles d'hier (Paypal, BitPay et etc.) ça regarde bien.

Le niveau de difficulter/ le hashing du réseau est super bas... C'est tellement facil miner du QBC en se moment pour n'importe qui qui possède une "ordi de gaming". Mais c'est dure de les convaincre de:

1. installer tout et figurer comment miner puis
2. croire qu'un jour leur QBC vaudrons plus que l'electricité qu'ils ont dépenser pour les miner.

Y faut rester honnête - personne peux promettre #2. Sauf qu'en 10 ans, toutes sortes d'affaire incroyable/impensable peuvent arriver. Puis bin des fois, les "early adopter" sont récompenser.

Imagine quelqu'un gang a la loterie, puis qui dit: "fucking it! J’achète pour un million $ de cette Crypto-là aujourdhui". Bin, par-exemple, 1 Quebecoin vaudrai plus de 0.43 chaqun s'il venais a bout de tout acheter les 2.3 million de QBC en circulation aujourd’hui. De 0.0001$ at 0.43$... Bon! c'est surment vraiment pas fiable ou realisitque comme mathématique mon exemple, mais y reste qu'avec pas grand chose, QBC pourrai facilement faire faire le saut a certain d'entre nous :P.

The coin is still being mined by a few people in our small community.  We have a message forum, however there has been no new people who have joined.  Our number is fixed at 23 members, which includes me twice.  As I accidentally registered twice.  A part of the original goal of this coin was to also serve as a way to promote literacy of cryptocurrency and adoption by the people of Quebec.  However, being realistic, that goal could very well end up being achieved without Quebecoin.

I just rented a 36 Mh/s rig from Betarigs ($1.37 in BTC) and will become over 50% of the network for the next 6 hours.  Just a little experiment I like to try every once in a while, even though it isn't very cost effective.

At the present moment an exchange is honestly the only way we can derive any value from the Quebecoins we hold.  Assuming there is a buyer who wishes to pick up some for some bitcoin.  That can give us the little bit of bitcoin we may need in order to make a small purchase and have enough to cover the fees.  Like finding some change at the bottom of your sofa.  Some real merchant activity with Québecoin would be ideal, however the exchange activity also plays a vital role in securing Québecoin's place in the crypto ecosystem.

Honestly, I'm a Quebecois & recently also an American citizen.  I'm moving back to FL because of personal reasons but I wouldn't mind doing PR for this coin.  I love that people saved it from the scam it initially was.  I love that the fork made the wallet nicer to use too.  I can read/speak French, but I can't write it for shit, so I won't be writing at all in French.  I can try by using a hybrid mix of Google translate and correcting for the obvious errors (many) it makes.  I like the low difficulty as well and now that the scam is over, we have a coin we can believe in and know is honest.  I won't be in Quebec for at least two years, so I can't do much locally, so we need help from residents.  Do we know of any merchants who are in talks with devs (are devs still here?)?  Is there a way of closing the original ANN since it contains misinformation such as "being listed on Bittrex Exchange", which we aren't anymore because of low trade volume.  I was one of those who had to sell my coins as I saw the coin tumble.  I have less than $100 in crypto, I can't such a hit at this early stage unfortunately.  Either way, I'll now keep an eye out of this forum thread more if others are still active.  I really like seeing people from all over the world (also provinces) finding interest in this country coin.  Thank you all!

There is no official "dev" for QBC right now. Morinpa worked on the hard fork, but he's not an actual C++ developer AFAIK. Just an IT enthusiast like many of us, but a good one at that! He has done most of the work for a lot of things. Notably the implementation and testing of the hard fork itself, but also the new block-explorer @ http://explorateur-qbc.circonference.ca/ and he started to look into the android wallet.

ML Richard (Circonference) also spent quite a lot of time on this, and then so did GHonyme. But as far as QBC's value went thus far, everyone literally did this voluntarily - at a loss. Yet we're all still kicking around cryptoz! Sure most of us aren’t posting as actively as before, I can assure you no one forgot about QBC and that were going to remain interested in this project for the years to come. So we can only slightly grow from here on.

Not sure about this, but I don't mind the original thread. I think it'll be a great little historical archive in the big crypto-experiment of our time.


Two things on my mind lately:

• We need a QBC mining calculator. There's no quick and easy way to calculate it anymore
• Ideas/brainstorm on how/if we could air-drop QBC cost effectively.

I was mining with my CPU on the cryptobec pool on July 23, which was the day before the fork.  I looked up the credit stats and it lists the last block that I received credit on before the fork as 53341.  I resumed mining on July 26 where the block number starts at 55336.  So the first block after the fork was probably somewhere after 54000, I would think?

Update: I just played around with the stats again and it indicates that block 54005 would have been the first block after the fork at around 2 PM on July 24th.

Here's a little thank for the new members who have just joined the conversation.  The first one to post their Quebecoin address in this thread will receive 5000 QBC.

Is there multiple exchange with quebecoin on it ?

We were listed on Bittrex for a while, however we were unable to maintain the minimum trading volume.  Something like 0.01 BTC or more per 24 hours.  Pretty hard to do when nobody knows about your coin.  The large exchanges are only interested in popular coins that already have strong demand for trading, they are not in the business of fostering fledgling coins.  Right now we only have the Cryptobec exchange that Guillaume (ghonyme), has put together.  Guillaume has stated that he eventually plans to add other services to his site as the coin develops.

The crytobec pool is currently down.  I had to create an account on SuchPool in order to mine.  I do remember this happening once before, Guillaume, however you were able to get restarted.  Right now there is only 11.5 MH of global mining, and I cannot get above 3 MH with a 26 MH miner.

I'm trying to promote on FB and other places like Twitter.  Omg, I received a generous amount of coins.  I just want to remind everyone that this is a long term coin.  Coins keep their value as long as you mine them and believe in them.  I don't choose where I am born and since I am from this great province, as long as we keep having discussions and having ideas, I will be supporting this coin and bringing new people to the table.  ;)  I got even more than stated and I can't thank you enough for the offer!

It was actually much easier to mine those coins than at any previous time that I had ever tried, because of the lower level of difficulty.  That is up until the today's slowdown with the pools.  I think it is well worth trying to distribute some interesting samples of coin to some new people, so that this story can continue to unfold and evolve.  A look at the top 50 holders tells the story that there hasn't been much activity yet.  For example you will notice that there are only 8 people who have between 20 and 30 thousand coins, 6 people with between 30 and 60 thousand, etc...  A number of the holders are IPO investors who were promised something that couldn't be delivered at the time (April 2014).  There's a total of 2,667,850 QBC that have been mined so far.  

So much potential ahead though.  A working digital wallet for Quebec!  Wow!  I mean, this is a great platform.  SuchPool has most of their servers in Montreal.  They seem to be in it for the long haul, so I don't think they will take the coin down anytime soon.  This allows us to survive through mining and eventually there will be enough people who have mined and showed the concept to new friends.  We also have to remember that cryptocurrency is being discovered every day.  I have only been mining for like a quarter of a year, so I am also very new to all this but learning very quickly.  I'm telling friends on Facebook about how generous this community has been to me thus far.  You guys promoted me to 47th richest on the Rich list.  I mean, how much more can I say?  I see this coin going places in time.  Mining takes power, Quebec has cheap hydro power, we should be able to have an edge if we get enough users excited.  Quebecers are very technologically literate.  We also dispise authoritarian control of our destinies, so a coin like this should appeal to many.  I think we should try to get more foreigners excited about this.  A lot of minorities in Montreal.  It would be nice to have spokespersons for each group respresented here.  We should work on local merchants working to support this coin in time.  Like if local business people who have products they produce they could peg for the price of a Quebecoin or more, we could associate real world value to coin.

I know that the only reason I am still here is because of the work that ghonyme has put into this.  The principle was good, whether or not Quebecoin will be the way to get there is still uncertain.  Assuming interest in this project might resume, you can count on my full support.  But it is understandable that there is a limit to how much longer you can wait.

What is required for continued support?  I mean, even talking of taking services away is not good for the coin.

We need to manage this project as a project should be manage. (roadmap, deadline, release date....)

In the roadmap, we should have things like that :
- Deamon update with last patchs
- android wallet
- Find merchands which should be ready to accept quebecoin. For example a pub in Montreal ready to sell his beer with 50% discount if you pay with quebecoin....

That's right, just to reiterate.  There are certain critical aspects of the project that are not being managed at the moment because we don't have the right technical talent involved yet.  Someone to work out the android wallet, being just one example.  Also, because the state of this thing is in limbo, quebecoin has gone off the radar for a number of people who were initially quite involved and interested.

As far as merchant adoption is concerned.  I think it would make sense to begin with less formal, home based businesses by people who already know how to use crypto currency ideally.  Like someone from our circle who is able to sell vegetables from their garden.  Just to get a baseline of merchant activity, before pitching the idea to an established brick and mortar business in downtown Montreal.  As it is, there are not yet a whole lot of places in Montreal that accept bitcoin, as far as I can tell.  I have not personally gone to some of the places that do, such as Montreal Poutine, so I am not sure what the experience is like for the customer.  Whether or not they do a good job of handling bitcoin customers,  or if it is still something that just looks good on paper as a gimmick, but which they are still struggling to figure out themselves.

As you can see they have an online store and specialize in one type of item, an animal themed fleece costume that originates from Japan.  I see on their website that they have the bitoin logo.

I think a web based store that has a similar design and sells a simple product for Quebecoins, like custom T-shirts for example.  Could be another possible way to implement Quebecoin into the local merchant scene.

This has been the problem from the very beginning.  We first become excited by the idea of this coin because of the potential for it to be used in that way, as a currency that could be used within Quebec and beyond.  However, at such an early a stage in development, where few are aware of us, it would be unrealistic to find merchants willing to consider accepting Quebecoin as payment while the coin has no definite value.

I think one possible way forward would be to first offer the idea of using Quebecoin as a token coin.  As something that can be used as part of the marketing tools of a business, such as coupons.  Customers would get the opportunity to access special items, offers, and discounts available only if they pay a nominal fee in Quebecoin to the merchant.  For example, pay 500 QBC and receive a code that you enter at checkout to save 40% on specific items.  This would be a far more realistic starting point.

This could also be another way for merchants to gradually become involved with using cryptocurrency in general.  One that would be less demanding than trying to integrate Bitcoin into their payment system as the first step.

As demand for the coin would increase, we could then add more uses that would make Quebecoin work like a currency that has a specific value.

Actually that is a great idea.  Also, I'm impressed with the list of businesses available willing to take Bitcoin!  Wow!  What a list!  I promise you that in FL, this list does not exist, at least not the area I generally live in.  What is stopping us from doing what you are proposing?!  I mean, the idea is there and a bunch of businesses are there.  Where is the lady who took this project over after that Gagnon guy?  Why has she left the ship?  Honestly, it didn't take much time after saving this coin for most of its dedicated members to leave, which is really sad and disheartening.  Seemed like everyone was relying on others to save the coin.  Also, there needs to be better linking of messages between the English and French forums.  If someone posts something in French on this forum, I can translate it for the English people.  Having no activity on the forums is the best way to kill this coin.  So thanks for the few who are responding here, but its not enough.  All the people involved with this coin should have each others email/cells and should be all over the forums when new people arrive.  Maybe reward new people with coins.  SOMETHING has to happen otherwise everyone in here has killed the coin.

I can donate coins since you guys gave me so many, I can help donate towards new users, but without something, all my words mean nothing...  Has nobody gone to University of Montreal, Concordia, and McGill?  I feel like if we can't pull this off, that we are letting ourselves down big time.  Montreal is an enormous city and you guys can generate a huge list of vendors who accept BTC, I'm surprised this project has almost no breadth in it.  If someone told me I lived in NYC and that they couldn't start a NYCoin, I would laugh at them.

This is almost how ridiculous it is.  A bunch of hippy kids in Montreal.  Why not work with smoke shops to spread Quebecoin!?  Even if its a smoke shop, at least its local and they are open minded.  Why not contact the city and see if they can work out a deal with certain bicycle rental places where they can pay in Quebecoin for the day and get bicycles to ride around the city?!  If we can't find way of doing this, I think we only have ourselves to blame for the lack of creativity guys.  Why not reach out to Solstice Music Festival (I think thats what it is called).  Its a big rave that happens every July in Quebec.  Its really big and international!  Why not try to make the local currency at the event Quebecoin, so that people are not as worried to get their actual cash stolen.  I would be cool to have the city promote the coin, even if it was something that cost our community money, and even if for only an hour.

Also, do you guys realize SuchPool.pw is located in Montreal?  Has anyone reached out to fellow Quebecers and asked for suggestions?

I can't speak personally for M-L Richard, but I did notice that she has since become involved in the start up of a Montreal based bitcoin investment fund called Cryptomen.

That project appears to have the potential to be lucrative, whereas Quebecoin, for the moment, would require some serious leg work to become anything substantial.  I would imagine she will return once a new development comes that will put Quebecoin on people's radar.




The successful coins also have bitcointalk threads that have gained a critical number of members reading and participating, which helps to keep the wheels running.  We only have a few chiming in on this thread, I think perhaps because we haven't yet distinguished the coin from the crowd or reached the appropriate audience.


 
We can all write well enough in English to do so for the sake of this thread.  Since I understand that we are posting in the English section of Bitcointalk.  The important thing is to keep the discussion lively and active.  We did post in French several times in this thread, because that was one of the defining characteristics of the project, the desire to carve out something that delivers a message in our own language.  But we have other venues for doing that, such as our website forum.

There was a post yesterday by Patrick Morin.  He said that he updated DSN seeds.  Which I expect should fix the issue we had with inactive nodes that resulted in mining downtime for several hours a couple days ago.  But generally there is not much activity in the quebeco.in forum, because there are only about 10 people who might post on there at any given time.

Yes Suchpool are Quebecers. I chatted with them briefly in May and they did not seem too excited or inspired by Quebecoin. They run QBC on their pool for profit/BTC and not because they loved the idea – and there’s nothing wrong with that. They looked like a group of fun folks.




We don't have the tool/services in place to even "spend" QBC right now. We're truly like Bitcoin back in 2010 when it was barely known. And we see other crypto-projects/coins evolve around us fucking fast… QBC isn't a coins that can innovate at that speed. Like Snowcrawl said, we don't have the resource required for that... how many developepr will be excited to work on QBC with no promises of a reward that can feed their familly? A very few. Some did already, but  they can't be doing this for ever, they're hungry too you know...

I used to exchange e-mail with ML-R every now and then about QBC related stuff. Now she seems extremely busy with her current project so much it looks like she almost forgot about QBC - Ever since she got going on cryptomen lol. Cryptomen (the service) is setting it's nest up in a huge niche, which HUGE potential. If they manage to pull it off and remain true to their goals, it'll be crazy.

I look at Quebecoins as if it was a share in, not a company, but a very long term project. The amount of QBC being slowly mined, shared, accumulated will remain de same possibly for the next HUNDREDS of years. My only hopes are that QBC be distributed MOSTLY to the population of Quebecers, and then to anyone else who shows or showed interest about it and us. I'm personally collecting considerable amount of QBC with that VERY goal in mind - but I'm not thinking in days, weeks, or even months - I'm thinking in years. :O Cryptocurrencies are freaking new, we'll see a Bitcoin 2.0, we'll see new things we never even thought would be possible, we never imagined. QBC can be anything, but the 21 million share will remain

In another news, as I’ve stated on the French Webpages today… I’m likely to be slowly learning and practicing PowerShell scripting. This might be of good use in the future. For my personal pet project, I’m thinking about trying to make a QBC mining calculator. Sounds so stupid simple, but it took me 1h15 yesterday to get a little form up with two buttons, one that spits the mining difficulty, and one that closes the form. Rofl

Unfortunately, the launch of Quebecoin back in April had none of the ingredients of innovation needed to set it apart from all of the other fad altcoins that have been popping up everywhere like bad weeds.  It also did not come with the promised maple syrup for IPO investors ;D.  That leads to an identity crisis, which fails to attract people to join the conversation and promote development.  So it is not surprising that someone heavily involved with the industry would not be impressed with someone who has merely cooked up a different flavor of the same recipe that was already been copied and followed a thousand times.




Earlier in this thread I did set up a kind of experimental transaction for Quebecoin.  To make the Quebecoin equivalent of a $20 donation to a charity.  I picked a Montreal based charity called Mission Bon Accueil, or in English "Welcome Hall Mission".  They provide food and shelter to Montreal's homeless and most vulnerable.  I asked for everyone to pitch in some Quebecoins, arbitrarily setting the number of Quebecoins to be collected to roughly what $20 worth of bitcoin would allow you to mine at that given time.

The idea was similar to the one used by bitcointalk's Laszlo, when he asked if someone could send him pizza in exchange for bitcoins.  In 2010 it was such an early point in bitcoin's history that essentially nobody had yet used it as a currency.  Laszlo was simply using the most basic tools he had at his disposal to try to make that first transaction happen.  And that was all that was needed to get the ball rolling  For example he did not say: "For the first bitcoin transaction I am hiring a team of web developers to create a highly advanced website that will allow you to select a pizzeria close to where I live and will automatically convert bitcoins to fiat and wire the money to the restaurant."

I think that for the earliest use, Quebecoin would work more like a token.  Imagine those plastic tokens that you use in the laundry rooms of certain apartment complexes.  The tenants have to buy them in order to do their laundry, and it prevents people who don't live there from doing their laundry.  Because the machines do not accept quarters.  That's a rather unexciting, low tech concept.  But then again so was asking someone to send you a pizza for a few thousand bitcoins back in 2010.

So there could initially be some specific use for Quebecoin at one local online store, for example.  It would be a matter of finding a business that is small enough that they would not mind taking a chance on an unusual marketing strategy involving our little cryptocurrency.  To offer customers the chance to use Quebecoin in some very limited way.  At first the only customers who would show up would be a few people from this thread.  I am thinking that the only value for Quebecoin would be to receive a discount code to use at check-out in order to save a certain percentage on the total sales price, or perhaps to get free shipping.

The benefit for this small retailer is that they would gradually be introduced to the concepts of cryptocurrency.  Without taking the risk of diving head first in accepting bitcoin as a form of payment.  Learning the basics of how to manage wallets and how to transfer the Quebecoins they receive into Bitcoin.  I would also consider providing an extra incentive to the first merchant who adopts Quebecoin.  Such as complimentary cloud hashing shares.  Let's say about 20 MHS of Zeushash.com litecoin shares.  That would also give them some crypto income that they could use.

Even this small amount of activity would be enough to drive up some demand for QBC, and give it some small value.  Gradually you could, over time add more merchant activity, and more substantial products and services being offered in exchange for Quebecoin.

Of course my main goal here would be to find ways to encourage more people from Quebec to get involved with using and benefiting from bitcoin. The kind of people who do not hang out on bitcointalk, and who probably don't read English very well.  Quebecoin is nothing more than a tool for reaching that goal.  Ideally finding new people who are not already aware of cryptocurrency, or how it works and who probably doubt that it is something that they could be concerned with.  Trying to make the process of using it simpler than it already is for people who's level of computer literacy is limited to using email.  For them we would need to design a simple online wallet.  Expecting them to be able to download the Windows wallet as it is now, is already too complicated.

Realistically that is a very broad goal, which could be achieved either with or without Quebecoin.  Depending upon whether or not Quebecoin would end up becoming a viable concept.  I think that the project that ML-R is working on has much of the same goal in mind.

Thanks for expanding, I get your point now and I agree. I would myself accept to receive QBC as a payment for things that I sell. Or by playing the middle-man/token game. I'm just worried it'll be hard to convince small business to be excited enough about QBC to accept it as a payment, and sit on it - but this is far from impossible. I simply don't think I have what's needed to convince them.

Side story that's somewhat related to this. A friend of a friend had issues with their PC. I went to their place and fixed their problem as well as a little cleanup while at it. They thanked my by giving me 40$. I accepted the 40$, but quickly told them about crypto-currencies and our little QBC decentralized project. I explained to her that I wasn't taking their 40$, but that I investing/gambling it in QBC - for her. I would be super excited to announce her some day that this 40$ is now worth 80$ and that she can freely sell her share, keep them, spend them or what not. I thought this was a nice idea, and I decided that from now on, I would be doing this when ever a friend or family member offered me money for services I would of otherwise did for free.

Question for anyone who reads: what's the most reliable way to calculate your expected reward while mining? From my understanding, there's about 14,000 QBC being created daily? Would (Your Hash)x(14000)\(Net Hash) give a reliable estimate? Or is there a way to calculate it more accurately? I'll probably to more of my own research about this, but thought maybe someone here knows better already?

Since I only figured out how to run a CPU miner on my PC, I have occasionally experimented with Betarigs.com's selection of X11 mining farms.   Generally, any of the occasional spikes you see in the hashrate graph correspond to a moment when I rented a big rig for a few hours:

 They give you a wide range of hashrates to choose from from just 1 Mh/s up to huge farms over 700 Mh/s.  The time of the mining contract varies from a few hours to sometimes up to 2 weeks, depending upon what you are willing to pay for (in bitcoins).  I have tried mining with a large over 100 Mh/s farm on the cryptobec pool before, paying over 0.01 BTC to mine for a few hours.  This was at the time that the difficulty was higher, so generating less Quebecoins.  I realize that it is not worth pointing too much power at Quebecoin, because so few are mining it.  

I am just about to complete a 24 hour mining contract that is rated at 8.6+ Mh/s.  I think I would not bother going above that mining power.  The following miner:

The actual hashrate varies.  Sometime it can go signifcantly higher.  Right now it is at about 6.4 Mh/s.  Overall average might by 8.25 Mh/s  For the first couple of hours I was getting a poor hashrate, which has been a typical problem this week mining Quebecoin, but then it went up and has been good for the remainder.  The owner of the miner gave me an extra hour to mine make up for the loss.

I am looking at getting a bit over 4000 QBC for 24 hours.  I paid the equivalent of $1.07 in bitcoin for the miner rental.  The global hashrate has been from 25-33 Mh/s over that period.  I think that if you plug the numbers into your equation it does come up close to 4000 coins estimated.

This reminds me of something, which is off topic.  A friend of mine had a message board that was hosted on a free site called called "proboards".  The forum got taken down, after someone complained to the webmaster, who then decided to pull the plug and my friend then lost all the contents of his 10 year old forum.  It was a discussion forum dedicated to skeptical views on chiropractic, combatting and describing the pseudosciene that's involved, and was frequented mostly by former chiropractors who had decided to quit the profession, as well as others who were searching for answers to their questions about chiropractic.  The website Quackwatch.com (Chirobase) has offered to host a new discussion forum for him, however he needs to rebuild a forum from scratch.  If you think you might be able to lend a hand, let me know.

Just FYI. Quebeco.in isn't an ordinary forum. It's actually a WordPress with a bunch of plug-in/extensions to make it one. And it's kinda confusing to manage as I have no experience in either traditional forum or WordPress.  That being said, I played around with a regular PHPBB forum before going the WordPress route, and I can say that the basics of PHPBB forum weren't too compliacted. By basics I mean creating sections, sub sections and basic users/vistors/groups rights.

I could potentially help, but honestly what I do most of the time is figure things slowly with research. I'm not an expert lol.

Yes this is how it works AFAIK. There's always a little bit of luck involved, but in the grand shceme of things, that's how it goes.

Laszlo would surely be proud.  Though I would point out that with just a little under 3 million QBC in circulation, it would be close to impossible for a single individual to put together 1 million Quebecoins today, and then take you up on your offer.

Based upon the last price I sold Quebecoin for on cryptobec, 1 million coins would in theory be worth  $240 USD.  However it isn't really meaningful to scale things up that big (or down so small depending upon your perspective) when there are so few Quebecoins available, and also while we still haven't yet discovered our first economic applications for the coin.  It's all kind of arbitrary at this point.

Yeah, I'm just as sure as you are that it's most likely impossible to get to go from 0 to 1,000,000 QBC.

With the current bid at 52 satoshi, this puts 1 QBC at about 0.000169$ (implying BTC is at 325$). And like I said on the Quebeco.in thread, I'm just thinking it's a little crazy that we still have a few CPU/GPU miners spending electricity for a small amount of QBC in return, when I've seen thousand of QBC sell for 70-100 Satoshis on http://exchange.cryptobec.com/markets/qbcbtc (http://exchange.cryptobec.com/markets/qbcbtc). There should be more people fighting to BUY cheap QBC. Mining is awesome and very important, but there's nothing wrong about hitting a great deal of cheap QBC because someone decided to part out and drop them for the best offer, which is ridiculously low and affordable right now.

I could almost guarantee that anyone buying QBC below 0.000338$ (100 Satoshi at current rate) will profit from it in the future. And I swear you'll have to pay a whole lot more than that to get some of mine...  ;D

Regarding the exchange platform Cryptobec.  Is there any way you could deactivate the email message we get every single time we log into our exchange profile.  I think it is probably overkill getting an email every time we log in.  Also, the list of completed trades in the left margin only indicates the time of trades.  I think it would be more useful to see the dates as well in order to give a better picture of the level of activity.

In other news: the hashrate was at what looks like an all-time low in the past days (we've hit 7MH/s). Was an easy day to get a bunch of QBC. 2 - Uninstall the old application
3 - Install new application from google play
4 - Restore your wallet.

I have been renting rigs this past week in order to build back some QBC to put into my android wallet.  But at the moment I do not have anything running.  

I have either given away, donated or sold over 100 thousand coins, and was back down to zero.  I do try to keep the size of the mining rig modest.  I get the impression that somebody else on one of the other pools is renting larger rigs.  We have also seen an increase in demand, with a few people who are willing to pay about $1 in bitcoins for 1000 QBC.  Still relatively cheap, but it has been gradually rising in value.  Although maybe simply because a couple guys were interested in filling their new android wallets?   I think that something well under 10 Mh/s should be sufficient for mining.  A single individual renting something like a 150 Mh/s rig is overkill, and will significantly increase the mining difficulty.   Now that I am back up to over 22,000 QBC, I don't really have much motivation to go and try to outmine everybody else.  I did buy over 6000 QBC on the cryptobec exchange yesterday.  It is certainly a better idea to support our own exchange platform than it is keep paying bitcoin to mining rig renters.  

I figure that anyone who has over 20 thousand Quebecoins has essentially become a bank for Quebecoins.  Given how few that there are currently in circulation.  I don't see much point in getting too greedy with them, given that the economy has yet to be developed.  

I suspect that this hashrate plateau will fall back down once the one or two indivuals who are behind the activity are satisfied that they have accumulated a sufficient amount of coin.  Of course if interest in this coin were to actually take off, we would all be looking back with nostalgia to a time when the global hashrate was as low as 80 Mh/s.

I heard, and I beleive, that we'll see X11 ASIC in the comin year. I haven't really looked into it more than that, but some one "confirmed" they already exist and that production has begun. Means we're about to see very efficient mining hardware hit the scene. Will most likely make our GPU/CPU obsolet... Competitive minning will probably require a bigger investment.

I'll be buying used ASIC x11 ASIC down the road. Wouldn't recommend anyone buy x11 ASIC as they come out, it's always a terrible deal as far as I know. Leave alone pre-ordering hardware.... Giant red flag, very risky. ;)

It is probably not the best idea for one person to log onto the pool with close to 100 Mh/s mining power, and then become about 80% of the net hashrate.    We would probably be better to have more people mining on an ongoing basis like ghonyme with his 5 Mh/s, and others with their available CPU and GPU always running in the background.

Well, I am certainly guilty of doing this before, back when I first discovered the concept of renting mining rigs.  I have a 24 Mh/s rig currently running, but only for the next few hours.  It is still too big. and I realize sets a bad example.  I would like to get it back down to around 5 Mh/s  I first assumed that more power would be even better.  However that momentary burst of mining activity doesn't necessarily translate into generating significantly more coins in the larger scheme of things.  I would like to figure out how to use my GPU card, but never was able to get the mining program to run successfully on my desktop.  So I just do CPU on this computer.

As an aside to this, I was wondering if there might be some interest in establishing our own line of mining equipment that could be rented out to anyone who was interested in mining Quebecoin.  A sort of mini-betarigs for cryptobec.  We could charge a certain amount in bitcoins for the rental, and use the amount collected to help fund the project.

Frequent lurker, very infrequent poster here.

Been testing the QBC Android wallet. Successfully sending/receiving small transactions (100 QBC or less) and large transactions (10k QBC or more), and so far, so good.

However, there is some left-over copy-pasta from the Darkcoin client. Tray notification in Android displays the DRK logo. Also, the Request and Send Coins sections display the DRK logo.

Just a heads-up, but you guys probably already know about this.

Just a heads up in case anyone is wondering, the cryptobec exchange is currently down.  I suspect it could be due to a lack of interest.  The few people who were interested in getting some samples of Quebecoin would have fulfilled their needs by now.  I imagine that things will be slow for the next while, until we determine our next step.  

The mining hash rate has gone down significantly, even to a point where I was able to easily get some blocks yesterday with just CPU mining running.

I will check tonight why the exchange is down....

Well 25$ is worth between 27043 to 69204 QBC right now. Hard to say how many would participate in the raffle and therefor hard to guess entry cost. I'll participate for sure ;).

Happy new years to everyone. Better or worst, all we can do is "hang on" right now. It's crazy how calm everything is even for the "older" coins. I mean other coins that have somewhat a solid goal like Reddcoin and Vertcoin aren't seeing nearly as much action / interest has they used to. But I've heard this isn't the first time such a decline happens. As I said somewhere else; it's almost like not just the value is volatile, but also the "user's" interest.

As a big fan of Vertcoin (ASIC resistant), I'm curious to see what you guys think of ASIC and how it will likely change QBC. I haven't followed this closely, but I know there's been claims that X11 FPGA already existed (months ago) and that ASIC were coming.

The moment X11 ASICS are available, it will render GPU mining kind of irrelevant… QBC was only rarely “profitable” to mine. On one side ASIC are more efficient which means we would be wasting less energy mining QBC… But on the other side it will take away the easy access to QBC mining. I mean… it would be hypocrite to try and convince anyone to mine QBC with their workstation when there’s ASIC out there doing it X times more efficiently. Then trying to convince people to buy a box that servers no other purpose than mining QBC wont be no easy task either.

Knowing that none made the decision to go with X11, I’m curious to see what everyone thinks.

Either way, I think we've reached a point where it will be a significant challenge to attract people to Quebecoin.  At least for the time being.  The overall downturn of cryptocurrency from 2014 to present must be having a negative impact on people's confidence and belief in this technology.

The other day I sent a payment of about $16 in BTC to purchase a gift card.  The transaction ended up failing, and my bitcoins disappeared.
What if I would have been sending a couple hundred dollars or more and all of it disappears?  I might be able to retrieve it by installing a copy of the key into a wallet on another computer, but what if the same happens to someone who is not very tech savy who are just learning about bitcoin.  They will probably become completely discouraged.  There are definitely security issues that need to be addressed.

In the ends it's not clear what QBC goal is. Some thought we should compete with BTC at being a currency, some believe more into the "this is an experiment". In the end there's going to be 21,000,000 share from a project that aimed at bringing Quebecers together in the crypto world.

I don't know when you "entered" crypto... But I entered at the worst possible time ever, during the last peak. I've heard a lot of people claim that what's happening right now(down trend, bad press and etc) isn't the first time it happens. I believe it's a bit different since there's more people, more enterprise and many more project involved.

QBC value hasn't really moved in this whole downtrend. Which is kinda fun to think of lol. We've remained around 150 Satoshi for the past months.

As for your transaction issue, I'd ask around the BTC threads... This doesn't seems normal at all and never happened to me in the past year. Be careful cause there's no way your transaction should fail like this. It sounds like you're having security issues.

I think we entered around the same period.  I first tried out bitcoin mining around Halloween 2013, with one of those short ebay mining contracts.  At that time 1GH was able to mine nearly 0.01 BTC per week.  I lost that first 0.01 BTC by storing it in an online wallet that got hacked.  Much easier to make an interesting return back then, coupled with the rise in value of bitcoin towards $1000, and it is understandable how we got hooked.

There was an old multibit wallet on another laptop, my original bitcoin wallet, which appeared to be corrupted.  It was no longer recognizing the password.  So I copied the key and installed it onto my newer computer.  To my surprise, after resetting the blockchain, there was about $15 in bitcoin that had not been there before when that wallet had been on the old machine.  Not sure if that might have something to do with the problem I encountered.  At any rate, I was able to send a small amount today successfully.  

I first tried mining LTC for the first time around November 27. So it's our first ride through some rough :P.

Have you noticed that a lot of the altcoin scene is being beaten down to hobbyists - people who stick around because they're interested in the technology? Optimistically, that's a blessing in disguise: people who pick up an alt because they like the alt stick around.

Yep, that's why I believe that every alt-coin will have their collector/trader. There's too many competitor trying to do the same thing (being a currency).

I don't know, but I have a feeling not. I'm starting to worry that by the time QBC might have a chance to see new user influx, it's distribution will be so imbalanced, that any "FUDer" will be able to use that as an argument and easily steer the development of ideas. I've been vocal about the fact that I am gathering lots of QBC with the goal to redistribute them in the years ahead. I'm nearing 400,000 QBC for this now. But there's almost 4 million QBC in circulation too... and only a few enthusiast.

As it stands today, I think that too many people interested in Crypto took the plunge because they saw potential profit - not because they're interested in the idea of a decentralised project/experiment.

If we could find a way to actually make the distribution fun, then we might be onto something. I mean - I find it cool to fiddle around with Sgminer and try to achieve the best Kilo Hashes per Seconds with my gaming workstation - But Joe doesn't - he actually can't stand it when it "doesn't work".

What's happening with the exchange ?

It appears to be offline again.   Otherwise, the exchange hasn't worked for me at all in the past couple weeks.  My bitcoin deposits are in limbo, not being credited to my account.   Not a major loss though, probably about 50 cents worth of bitcoin.

Tried to withdraw bitcoin and they didn't got out too.

On a somewhat unrelated note ,I got an email from the Vault of Satoshi today saying that they were closing.  Behind the scenes they had been developing a different business unrelated to cryptocurrency for some time, as this market has been getting uglier.  I signed up for an account a while back and even opened a new checking account at BMO, thinking that I would want to use it to buy bitcoins.  Now I'm glad that I held off, and only have a few dollars still invested in bitcoins.

I'll be trying to find an exchange that will accept QBC. I really wish we could have QBC on a solid exchange albeit it's low trading volume, but in these rough time it's most likely impossible.

It is quite understandable that we need to scale back in light of the current situation and rethink everything.  Lots of announcements of relatively major operations closing down so far, and I suspect more to come.  I just received another email, this time announcing that Suchpool is shutting down.

Why don't you guys partner with another regional cryptocurrency and pool your development efforts?

If you work with a coin with a similar codebase you might be able to build infrastructure for Quebecoin much more easily.

The owner of the Quebecoin trading platform took down the website for now, due to lack of activity I would imagine.  With the difficult market conditions over the past several months, the Quebecoin project has gone on hiatus.

"hiatus"... Hopefully somebody else steps in and takes the coin over. Though it's news to me that there was a specialized trading platform for Quebecoin.

Thanks for the update, I placed a couple of Quebecoin trades on the YoBit exchange.  The first time I have made a transaction in nearly a year in this currency, according to the android Quebecoin app, which is acting pretty buggy.  Transactions are definitely slow to send.

I found out Yobit listed Quebecoin (QBC) as I scrolled through Twitter this weekend. Please understand that the currency has been maintained by my family over the past 18 months and we had kept it up in order to do a rebrand/update and use it within a cultural context.

Here are 10 facts about Quebecoin (QBC) in ENGLISH so that people understand the nature of this crypto-currency before investing.

1. Quebecoin was launched with an IPO on April 1st 2014. Within a few month we realised this was a scam. We (new interim developer and me) forked the coin, KILLED the 50% pre-mine (20M coins) and re-launched it on July 14th 2014. We invested in man hours the entire value of the Market Cap to do this (CAD 35K)

2. I have investigated the original developer who used a pseudonym and used the addresses of other people in official documents. He is guilty of financial fraud in this jurisdiction. The original developer has run away with the 20+ BTC of IPO. Be really careful about WHO you are dealing with when it comes to this coin. Double check all sources.

3. Quebecoin has, from the most part been kept alive via mining by 4 people. Listing on Yobit is wonderful because it lets MORE people own Quebecoin and diminishes the problems with people holding huge bags.

4. As a community, we have a few million coins which are promised for development projects and other things. This is meant to make up for destroying the 50% pre-mine that the original developer refused to co-sign.

5. There are only 10M QBC out there, not 33M !!

6. I have secured all the trademarks, domain names and social media account, and paid for a new logo for this coin. The only thing that is left is finishing the code update.

7. The new name for the currency is BILINGUAL with a French Canadian spin and I will strive to produce bilingual info for this coin even though it is a tedious pain in the ass.

8. I appreciate it being listed on Yobit because I cannot legally sell Quebecoin in my jurisdiction. Enjoy! While Quebecoin (QBC) is listed, it means it's rated on coinmarketcap.com which is nice too.

9. The current value of #QBC on Yobit (275 Satoshis) is at par with the last listed day on Bittrex in 2014. The wallet and Android app work great still. See the OP.

10. There are plenty of plans for this crypto-currency that are going to be very Quebec-centric (French Canadian Culture and History centric) and will happen regardless of this crypto's listed status or value.

Does anyone know whether PAMP coin or price increase

It is a pump, bot been working it since day 1 on Yobit. I see no real support for this coin. Too bad good could have been a great project.... :(

I think we could pretty much have predicted that, since nothing has changed about the coin since the last time it was listed.  Yes, I did notice the bot action a lot yesterday.  The trading volume was up over 2 bitcoins yesterday.  There's just no way that there is that much real trading going on at this point.  Whenever I would put in a sell order at a certain price, and it ended up all of the coin except mine was sold at that price level.  Although there has also been at least some real selling and buying.  I put in about 40 thousand coins myself since this started.

I agree, no difference with new DEV.

There are still some of us who are continuing to mine the coin regardless of whatever is going on.  The hashrate skyrocketed briefly after it was first listed.  Now it is settling somewhere around 40 MH/s. I will look into continuing to mine with the MINEUM mining farm.  With that supply there will continue to be some interest in trading.

My impression was that the developers did not ask for this coin to be listed.  Might have been done by someone else sitting on a pile of coins who wanted to see it trading again.  This thing just ran out of momentum well over a year ago, do to lack of interest and development team had to keep this thing on life support for a while and play it out, but saw that nothing was happening.  As a project it might also just lack the right stuff to be viable, as it was originally defined.

The topics will include a brief summary and description of the cryptocurrency market place as well as a look at the art work associated with the various logos.
 
Many of the currencies do not have any notes or guidelines for use of their logos.  Hence I am contacting the currencies I am including requesting permission to use their logo images as part of the material.

I have mined QBC on Aikapool. Which exchange site has this coin ? Why does the Aikapool create a new pool for QBC if it is a dead project ? it is so strange.

I think token allocation is set, they killed the 21 million coin premine when they relaunched.
As far as I know only 21 mil max supply, only 16 mil mined so far.

I just forwarded the block explorer stats to coinmarketcap to get an accurate supply and market cap.

Just want to point a few things

* Quebecoin has been unmanaged for almost 3 years now and is still surviving.
* In less than a year, the coin will have it's second halfing, meaning that the block reward will be 6.5 per block if i'm not mistaking, making it hard to dump.
* I personally fell connected with this coin being from Quebec myself with all the implication that cryptos can achieve technologically and politically.


I for one would like to see Marie-Lynn back taking care of this coin but for reasons beyond my knowledge she doesn't seem interested anymore.


IMHO, QBC has a great potential, just needs a few more believers ;)

I'm still in contact with Marie-Lynn. She has other priorities right now but still supports the coin.
There is a new website coming, can't give a time frame as of yet but it will provide links to wallets and mining pools as well as some basic information.
There will be a telegram page and some contact info for any new devs that want to revive the project.
