Title: tipping with bitcoin....
Post by: Death on August 02, 2014, 06:36:01 PM
Would it be a good idea? Instead of writing the tip amount in the tip box, I'm thinking about writing bitcoin there and attach a paper wallet to it. Is this stupid or is there already a better way to do this?

What a great fucking idea! I wish I did this when I was going out to eat 5 times a week.

Well, I'm going to try it with an amount they can't refuse: 50 dollars worth of bitcoin on a $60 check.

You probably want to do this with a younger server first, or at least someone technologically savvy

waitresses get taxed on their income so if their expecting a tip where its mandatory. or cuts into their regular pay. they wont be too happy with the hassle of having to localbitcoin it to their bank account.

but if the tip was a free 'bonus' (outside of their minimal wage) they would be more convinced to keep it

Very true. I'll keep that in mind. Just that I wish someone would drag me by the hair into Bitcoin when I was a waiter.

Yes, they get taxed on their tips, but often times they just pocket a large percentage of them.   I'm sure most servers would just pocket a paper wallet as well...

OP, you need to create a paper wallet before paying out every time then sent tip amout to it. 5 times a week is bit hassle for us. It is better every waiter or waitress has his or her own btc wallet address and show qr code for the customer to scan to tip when asked.

For that to happen the restaurant itself have to accept bitcoin. Plus, I want the receiver of the tips to figure out how to withdraw the tips, who knows, they might find it intriguing like the rest of us.

Definitely, I would need to load the paper wallet first. 5-10-20-50 dollars I eat out a lot so this should be fun hehe.

LOL yes. The waitstaff have to tip out to chefs, bartender, bus boys, hostess, bar runners, etc. Some restaurants make the waitstaff tip the chef 9% of what they cook. So, if your family ate $200 worth of food and you only tip your server $10, the server have to pull 8 dollars out of his/her pocket to compensate for the inadequate tip.

Ya you're going to want to include some website with bitcoin information on it like blockchain.info or else I could see a lot of servers just throwing away the paper thinking you're just joking on them or it's not worth checking it out because it's only a few dollars.

Shouldn't the restaurant already use the money I paid for my food as salary for all the staff? Why do I have to pay extra if it's their job to prepare and bring me food?

Why pay $8/hour when you can legally pay your staff $2.75/hour and let your customer pay the rest?
