If you want to add anybody just post his name or nick and link to what he did.
Thank you!

It would be nice to have all altcoin related bad boys in one list  ;)

Crypto falls under the same category as video game currency.  What are you going to do, say that someone sold you Super Mario tokens and they decreased in value?  It's not a sovereign currency.

All forms of money are nothing but a confidence game, whether it be fiat, gold, or Bitcoin.  Bitcoin is libertarian, non-centralized power base in nature, so you're effectively saying you want a centralized authority to make good on the value of your tokens, coins, magic beans, etc.  There is an obvious paradox there.  As for laws dealing with intent to scam people, that's another top-down solution that requires a huge central government granted tyrannical amounts of power to control everyone's lives.

At the end of the day, you can either have Bitcoin and anarcho-capitalism, or police state, no Bitcoin, and lots of federal reserve notes.

what he said - except

Bticoin is in effect a failure right now - they dropped the ball sorry guys.

apart from that - i can state the effect better like this :

 - a system needs manual "Regulation" to the degree that it is effected by non market forces, so to example that :

Most Crypto currency are a pretty free market, however outside corrupt (as you would expect) influences do effect them, and to that degree they need manual "regulation" its very mild but its there.

now take for example say the "stock market" its totally rigged from the top to the bottom, so just to stop that system from literally wrecking the nation it needs extensive manual regulation, (with dubious consequences)

so the point here is the equilibrium that will be found - if non market forces effect it - then usually they need a non market counter balance to the similar degree.

Too bad the crypto innovations didn't originate on Wall Street. Those fuckers are all exempt from consequences. It is a safe zone for criminals. Maybe some of these smaller fish will end up on a stringer some day.

I see people bashing this Iconic Expert character FREQUENTLY, but haven't read or seen much of why everyone is calling him a scammer, a cheat and an all around bad dude.

What is it that this dude did or does that I see his name everywhere?

Just curious.

Yes, it would be nice to see more details on what these guys have done.

I suffered a small hit from ziplibrary. He started Sharecoin, and the Sharexcoin Exchange. Sharecoin was free and a stake was worth $100 to $150 at the peak. I sold for $100 but he got me when I made my first deposit of about $40 worth of Qora to his exchange about 1 hour before it went down and never went back up. I was still up $60 because of his exploits, but others suffered some big losses. Right after the exchange went down, he tried to dump the Qora on poloniex and they froze his account. Haven't kept up on the story since then.

He apparently sold 5k mcxfees a couple days ago, take from that what you will. But I have to say a lot of the scam accusations directed at realsolid usually come from people with questionable motives, like bitcoinexpress and spoetnik. I am not taking a stance on if I think realsolid is a scammer or not.

I nominate CoinHunter from Solidcoin / Microcash for software piracy of the Bitcoin source code. Contrary to common belief it is actually possible to pirate Free Libre Open Source Software. In the case of the MIT license it takes real effort because the licence is so liberal, but it can be done! Here is the thread regarding the Solidcoin DMCA takedown. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=57437.0 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=57437.0)

Many would consider Solidcoin the original scamcoin.

I don't suppose the guy that recently hacked bter and stole $ millions of Nxt counts as a scammer for hacking. However, they paid him bitcoins to return the Nxt, and if he does not return all the Nxt he stole I would count that as a scam. Please add him to the list if he does not keep his word.

The other 10%, well they are kinda organised.

Actually, anyone out there that can put a name or history to the Dimecoin dev?

There is no contest!

One guy has been behind a list of the biggest major scams.

Coinmart
Numus
Silkcoin
Edgecoin

Shimal H has been linked to these and more. We even have his name, he's a friken school boy in South Africa and he's made a fortune scamming this site. I almost admire him.

Of course I had to go with IE, but #2 would definitely be Bryce Weiner. I think he can put together a better legal team though so he has a stronger chance of staying out of prison than IE.

Nah, being a thief is very slightly different than being a scammer, and the Bter hacker (TheSir is his known handle) at least kept his side of the bargain.

@Conqueror:
EDIT: Thanks, mate.
John Manglaviti/Cointropolis worked for Nxt briefly, but hasn't been anywhere near us since May/June, so I'd appreciate it if you could pull the Nxt reference.
He was hired in to do PR for Nxt, he was never a core member of the Nxt community.

It is him.

My name is Bryce Weiner. I'm the developer of AmKoin, PetroDollar, the lead dev on PopularCoin, and I've taken over OpenSourceCoin from r3wt's very capable hands.  I'm also the Director of Cryptoeconomy Engineering at Blocktech and I promise I'll be gentle. :)

r3wt was kind enough to provide me with the repo and I am in possession of the private keys for the checkpoint server.  I currently have 800Gh/s on the network. I have purchased 2% of the total coins on the network. That 2% has been moved to cold storage as an asset.

So.. Bryce is finished here now, right? There's not really any reason to offer him any credibility ever again now, right? Please feel free to offer a rebuttal, I'm all ears.

The guy just lies, threatens, demonizes, fails to disclose conflicting interests, apparently he held a coin hostage one time telling the dev to pump and dump his coin at certain times or he would fork the coin and tell his twitter followers to dump the old coin and buy his new coin.

In this way, he is no better than IconicExpert. Perhaps even worse because at least IE knows deep down that he's a crook and will let it slip out every once in a while. Whereas Bryce, he's more genteel but he's getting sloppy too. Still I wouldn't be surprised if IE is jailed before Bryce. Its kind of inevitable for the both of them, however.

Not any more ...

Looks like the end is near for scam coins/ICOs.  Best dump out  and move into something safe and (hopefully) scam free like Dogecoin or Pandacoin, OpalCoin etc.  The Feds are coming ...

http://www.coindesk.com/fincen-rules-bitcoin-payment-processors-exchanges-money-transmitters/

https://www.cryptocoinsnews.com/sec-sends-inquiry-letters-hundreds-bitcoin-companies-unregistered-securities/

I don't want to hear how "this is crypto, anon, the government can't touch it". Right, but they can touch Bittrex, Cryptsy, etc. and "encourage" them to delist anything on their scam list ... And if the exchanges want to stand firm (like that will happen ...) good luck getting any real merchants to use a coin once they get a friendly call from a nice fellow in Washington.

Some might want to make fine distinctions between Exchanges, altcoins like Etherium, etc. but the guy on the phone with all the power in the cheap suit making $30,000 a year won't.  All the scammers love to put pics up from Wolf of Wallstreet.  Funny they never post pics from the end of that movie when it all went to hell.

China has been itching around banning altcoins for years but hasn't taken the plunge ... exactly.  With the US taking the lead there won't be any stopping them.  Bye-bye Bter, etc.

Crypto falls under the same category as video game currency.  What are you going to do, say that someone sold you Super Mario tokens and they decreased in value?  It's not a sovereign currency.

Thanks, man. I'm just being a bit over-sensitive on the Cointropolis/Nxt thing. Nxt has had loads of FUDding about it, even though the scammer actually targeted Bitcoin using the good old 'amazing investment opportunity' routine and netted something like 50 BTC from members of the Nxt community.
Here's the original scam thread:
https://nxtforum.org/news-and-announcements/incredible-opportunity!/

Please note that I'm not at all certain about who the f**k was being most scammed here. The whole 'my account got hacked' excuse is getting thin by now, but John probably stood to gain a lot more from playing legitimate Nxt PR dude than by pulling this scam....and he was in mid-Atlantic at the time.
One thing is almost certain, though: this job was pulled by someone inside the Nxt community, not some random drive-by hacker.

The main problem in this poll is that multiple choices aren't allowed...
Voting for one doesn't mean the others shouldn't go  ;D

You should rephrase the poll by asking "who in this list shouldn't go to prison ?" (or who shouldn't have a few broken legs before going to jail)

Most epic fraud of the year = asiacoin. I admit when Gox was robbed, or Zetacoin really didn't have the deal with Safaricom, I already knew that, but I still feel for those people that didn't do the research or trusted the wrong people. With Asiacoin, nobody out there warned anyone. It was a madness lasting between 1-10 of march. They secretly premined 30 billion coins and partially dumped for a few hundreds btc.

Hmmm. Alright, well I will assume the accusation is the way that HyperStake was created. Me and another person, David, held a large share of TRK, the dev was one of those create a fake account devs that stopped posting after they cashed out.  The coin was declining, and community dieing. I decided to takeover the coin to fix it, but instead of continuing as TRK, to fork it into its own separate chain called HyperStake.  A fake fud crew came out with scam allegations, and then conveniently a group of copy cat coins were released a week later.  The allegations were mainly that we "premined" the coin, because it was a fork launch and that we already had holdings of it. This was well known before the fork (why would we fork a coin we did not have interest in?), and everything was public from the beginning. Fact is that I, and David, weren't even in top ten holders at launch.

Not sure why this would mean I would rot in prison, seeing as everything was announced in the public domain before it happened, nobody was ever given inside information, David and I are now both in the top 3 holders of the coin still (after 6 months) and have both not once sold any meaningful amount of the coin.  Commits still happen a few times a week on HYP, and the coin continues to have a respectful community.

Not sure how else to defend myself, and honestly don't really care that much about being on the list, I just thought it was funny that one of the troll accounts created to fud HYP got us on this list (look at eyeswideopen account history).

Is true free market compatible with regulation? I'd say no. I think crypto is on the "right" track at this stage despite all the scams, etc.

FWIW for Mintpal:

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA512

Dear MintPal Customer,

A few months ago, MintPal Exchange, the popular cryptocurrency exchange, fell apart due to alleged fraud and embezzlement by a con artist going by the name "Alex Green"/Ryan Kennedy/Ryan Gentle, CEO of Moolah LTD. Moolah was responsible for management of MintPal at the time.

As a shareholder of the company that acquired MintPal prior to its fallout, I have gained access to the old servers of MintPal where Monero keys were stored. Monero is the only major altcoin where all wallet balances are still intact, presumably due to an oversight by Ryan. All other major altcoin wallets appear to be empty. There is a criminal investigation ongoing regarding Moolah and Ryan Kennedy/Gentle, and we are working with law enforcement to seek retribution for our customers.

It took me some time due to all the legal hurdles surrounding this case to send you this email, and while the criminal and civil cases against Ryan are far from over, I no longer wish to remain the custodian of coins that belong to you.

The recovered database indicates that you have Monero coins in your MintPal wallet. In order to process the withdrawal of these coins, please respond to this email by Mar 31 and include the following information:

1) Your new Monero deposit address in your sole control where I can return your coins.

2) Payment ID associated with the deposit address.

3) Estimated amount of XMR coins in your MintPal wallet. Leave blank if you can't remember. I have your record from the MintPal database back up taken prior to migration to V2.

That guy was scamming on the internet since the 1990s, and already went to jail / had a record and probably will be back out in a few years.   That's European prison for you - it's like a gated country club compared to American prison.  A lot of European countries let you out on the weekends, let you decorate your cell and even play video games / browse the internet.

Some European prisons are harsh Moscow winter compared to United States Miami hot summer. Pictures you posted here are from minimum security low level Great Britain prison, probably Liverpool. It's only like this in some GB prisons though and GB prison system is considered the most pleasant to do time in Europe anyway.

Want to see European prison check Moscow Black Dolphin, La sante prison in France or Tarnow prison in Poland. All these scammers should be sent there.

I could not believe Josh Garza has not blown the others away.
He will get there once your poll has more visitors and we start adding numbers.
I think GAW easily stole more than anyone else.
Bit I say *think*, and I was there and gave some money myself.
The thing about Josh is the pathological lies AND convincing so many people much smarter than me to go along.
Hell, he had some *smart* experienced crypto people on the hook, but the most was surely crypto noobs like me.

I will say that GAW brought my attention to BTC, so there is that.

Serious, you need to remove HyperStake from this list. I like this thread, but its losing credibility by having HyperStake listed.
If anything, HyperStake crew spots and calls out scam coins or anything that is scam related. If you visit ##HyperStake, you will notice list of credible members that you might recognize from BCT that will vouch for HyperStake and the devs involved. Also, its kind of silly for you to ask for proof of innocence, should be the other way around, you should prove guilt with facts.

Hope you consider, Thanks,

Not sure why HyperStake and I are on here???  Haters gonna hate I guess...

defend yourself with facts and I will remove you...

Not sure why they said the "entire hyperstake crew" or even hyperstake at all for that matter.  I've lost money on HYP still.  I stick around because I like the people. :)

Can we re-open the poll and remove the choices with 5% or less of the vote?

I know I could, but, lazy...

There's probably a couple new names to add by now.

LOLLLLLL

Please add BootstrapCoin and BootstrapCoinDev to the list if it's not too late. He just scammed btc out of a bunch of people on an ico for his coin. Then he double attacked the coin, inflated the supply of the coin, and tried to dump it on an exchange.

Here's a link to EmpoEx summarizing what happend with evidence/chat logs with dev: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1054705.0

They ended up closing the market and everyone who bought into the ico is now holding worthless coins.

That's because he's not a scammer. If you feel he is, its because you're either jealous of his success or else a terrible investor. The only thing Evan did wrong in my book was allow the name of the coin to be changed. DASH is not an improvement on DARK.

Other than that, I think its one of a handful of coins that remains a serious contender to bitcoin's dominance of the crypto scene.

Literally HUNDREDS of shitcoins and scamcoins have come and gone since DRK was first released almost a year and a half ago.

He really puts the "white" back in white collar.... More like Pale Collar Crime. Melanin-free crime?

Because he's another sociopathic pumper who does a good job of convincing people he is a normal human being with a fully-functional brain.

everyone will get "away" with it in the end cause alt crypto not regulated  :-\

Ripple was fined $700K from Fincen for being non compliant.

Fincen is warning they are going after digital currency exchanges/businesses that are not compliant with government KYC/AML requirements.

We know they cant regulate a crypto wallet, but they can sure go after the exchanges where cryptos are traded.

I lol'd at anyone who ever thought the idea of Ripple was safe.  eGold wasn't that long ago (granted years), which was shut down in a FBI raid, and you can't pretend that it didn't happen.  You can't have anything centralized in the United States (especially crypto stuff or anything that could enable laundering and crime) and Ripple is as centralized as they get.

If Ripple gets too big then it will be a single FBI raid from being shut down for good.  I'm sure, in exchange for a lesser criminal sentence, the Ripple developers would enact the kill switch to make sure the network goes down.

I gave him until the end of the year to either talk to me or send my btc back.. Regardless of truth, Travis Savo, is someone who might not deliver or might go awol for weeks on end.

Unless something insanely tragic has happened in his life, there is no excuse to not contact your investor.

Sorry buddy, but I gave you ample time, now this is public. I trusted you. We were supposed to change the world with decentralised governance.. Switch is dead.

This is my address to return whatever btc may remain. Preferably the original ~60 btc worth ~15k AUD at the time.

2 devs from BanxShares have implied that they want to murder me for asking too many questions about Banx business practices:

So if they do murder me, I personally feel that they should go to prison for that IMHO.

The CEO of BanxShares has already been to prison for having illegal pepper spray and a warehouse full of marijuana plants, but I think he should go back if he ends up being involved in my murder.

May have to add Cryptsy and Big Vern

Coin Fire is now able to report that multiple federal investigations are underway regarding Crypsty.

The online exchange is under several investigations with multiple agencies including the Securities and Exchange Commission, the Internal Revenue Service, and the Criminal Investigation Division of the Internal Revenue Service, among others.

Documents from various investigations obtained by Coin Fire show a litany of purported wrongdoing by the company and several team members. The large number of allegations levied against the company varies from agency to agency in more than 300 pages of documents. In some instances, the investigation alleges that the company failed to obtain appropriate licenses. In one particular instance, a connection is made between a Cryptsy team member and GAW Miners’ fraudulent operations. Other government agencies report a failure to report gains appropriately, market manipulation, the sale of unlicensed securities, money laundering, and more.

Alex Green, the guy who stole Bitcoin and almost caused 1k UNO to be deleted from Mintpal, is also a rapist.

maybe the first scam-scum bag to be sentenced
serial rape charges, and in the can awaiting trail

UNO community has some compelling evidence that is likely to get Vern arrested should he surface in a USA jurisdiction ;)

I would add Bitsend.nl with their Checkcoin Ico, only raised 140 btc tho. But a scam is a scam.

Then there is cormac Lucking, the original leader of "Cloak " coin, who lied and lied, and gave false hope to people making people think he had codes ready when he did not, while the whole thing was dumping down.

Both vaporware with false hopes, the second one is worse in his behaviour and how he fucked up people.

Who would you now add to this poll, almost 4 years later?

I would have definitely added:

Bitcoin is mainly for scammers and ne’er do wells. Even the “legitimate” businesses and “respected” members of the community eventually fuck everyone over and run away. There are literally hundreds of examples of this, which reminds me I saw Erik Voorhees the other day talking to Josh Zerlan. I think they were involved in making an obsolete miner that could also feedzbirds. LOL

That list definitely contains some heavy hitters there and it's a shame most of them are still walking around freely. I strongly think Ngo Hoang Quyen of Bcnex has to be there. It's shocking that his case has pretty much gone under the radar. After raising so much (over 21 million dollars) from tokensales and pretty much deceiving investors and traders with series of exchange deposit promotions, he finally made away with several millions of dollars with the bcnex holding on to users assets till this present day with no way to withdraw them from the exchange.
