We don't necessarily need big bubbles in order to get the attention of the media. We need a slow but steady growth that'll enable Bitcoin to get more and more traction each day and makes people realize that it isn't some stupid scheme or play-money! It may only be one company at a time every so often but the fact that it is now happening is great as we need more companies like this to start accepting bitcoin. The subject on the OP is pretty misledaing. But I can't figure out from the cnbc article - are they just referring merchants to Bitpay, or are they partnering with Bitpay to provide an integrated fiat/credit/bitcoin payment solution to merchants? Global Payments is a service in fact similar to BitPay, it's a payment platform to help merchants integrate several payment options, they can handle the payments and send money to the merchant directly in $USD to his bank (or whatever payment method the merchant prefer). Now that has partnered with BitPay, Bitcoin will be another payment method that ANY merchant using their service can integrate easily. Sadly, Steam and many other companies are using the other payment platform that I mentioned on the first line of this post, but now that a competitor has integrated Bitcoin, probably sooner or later Global Collect will accept BTC too. Yeah, Global Payment is one of the most important competitors Global Collect, so if that move makes them to increase their popularity, it's very probable that Global Collect will follow their example. Many of them were just replicating what already existed in the establishment. If you're a start-up, develop technology along the cutting edge of Bitcoin 2.0, Dapps, etc.

Maybe they are trying to crush price down so they can buy lots of Bitcoins before they launch their new payment system and then when they launch it, price will raise again and they will sell their Bitcoins and make profit.

Correct me if I am wrong. :) Kindly, MZ Well, I already thought that possibility, the problem is that when a merchant uses BitPay it don't even see the BTC, instead they are paid in fiat by BitPay. In a similar way when a merchant uses CoinBase probably will dump automatically the BTC for fiat... In other words, the merchants using these platforms are not really accepting BTC, they are not changing their minds about the way we use money. So, as a result, if the volume of merchants using these solutions increase it will result in more "sell orders" of BTC on the exchanges this means the offer of BTC increase and if offer is more than demand the price will tend to drop. We were very excited about this news because we though that this will be good for BTC but, maybe it will affect negatively the BTC instead.
