Is this the bitshares X delegated proof of stake?

I am not very technological talented, but IIRC he said he had the idea from transparent forging , and transparent forging fully enabled would yield same/better results. So I would say we are atm behind DPOS but will overtake it after TF is fully intact :)

Is NXT's community confident in it ever becoming a legitimate currency, or do they view NXT as a companion to Bitcoin which adds benefits like the decentralized asset exchange?

The way I view it is, that NXT will be a "system" on which you will be able to do pretty much everything.
- Trade
- Send encrypted messages
- Exchange currencies
- Store Data
- sell goods/services/data
- issue currencies (even POW or currencies like FIAT)

So you see, I don't think NXT needs to be a "currency" to succeed. The monetary system ontop can be a currency though!

Well, as far as I know some entrepreneurs already gained confidence in Nxt and started their own businesses around it. So, yes NXTs are used as money.

Additionally, we have that decentralized asset exchange that will prevent Mt.Gox 2 AND starting at block 213,000 will have the Nxt Marketplace.

Musicians already announced that they will distribute their songs via the Nxt Marketplace.

Because most people have never heard about NXT. Or if they heard they still don't know much about the technology.

@Spoetnik

As far as I can tell, BCNext created Nxt because he felt there was something missing. First, there was the believe that PoS is superior to PoW. TF proved that. With TF, we can do something that PoW will NEVER be able to achieve. However, Peercoins implementation of PoS also did not leverage the intrinsic advantage of PoS. Nxt should do that.

Furthermore, as it seems, other coins are not so flexible than Nxt and to adapt new ideas and features. I do not know why that is.

I think these are the two main reasons why.

Come on, Spoetnik, join the dark side....
Seriously, though, is it about time to maybe grudgingly admit that possibly NXT might not actually be a scam ?

The NXT community, and there are a lot of us ( ;) ) have been working our skinny little asses off for the last 8 months to build NXT up to where it is now, and it's all starting to pay off.

Take a look at CoinmarketCap and see how many NXT Assets we have in the Top 50, look at the forums and see all the tech we have coming up, count the number of clones trying to grab just a little bit of the NXT magic.....NXT 2 da MOOOONNN!

not a good sign if it's overly complicated i think.

The asset exchange was launched 2 months ago. Initially you could open your wallet and view the listings. One week after launch the whole asset market was "hidden". If a newbie open that wallet, he / she will see a big white blank page. Right now if you want to trade an asset, you need to know the offer ID, and manually add the asset to your account.

Right now, after 8 weeks, only 40 assets have a trading volume over 0. Investors moved quickly sending the NXT price 50% down in only 7 weeks. Asset exchange FAILED.

Hiding the market killed the whole ideea. For a new issuer, the asset exchange is USELESS. Unless they start a huge advertising campaign. But they are on AE to rise funds not to spend money.

Why the heck did you killed the asset exchange 7 days after launch ?

Are you going to do the same with digital good store. Just hide it  ?

How can an artist sell anything when the price of NXT can drop 10% overnight ?

GUI doesn't allow you to do multiple price changes in the same block. If you have 120 items, you need to wait 120 blocks (2 hours) to change the price. And then, you have to start over because the price of NXT just dropped 5%.
-How can an artist update the price for ...10.000 songs every day ?
-Why are you launching badly designed and incomplete products ?

Seven people hold 90% of coins. They have received the coins almost for free. What is going to happen when one of them dump his / her stake ? They were for free. Price doesn't matter.

I hope you are not the NXT PR guy...:)))

Anyway, "because it can also go 10% up overnight" - in this case, the customer will have to pay 10% more for a song that can be bought for 10% less using a credit card in less than 2 minutes. It doesn't matter where the price is going. The artist will have to update the prices, 1 item / minute. In case the merchant doesn't update the prices fast, those are the options :

1. The merchant looses money.
2. The merchant has zero sales.

LOL

You are wrong, they are not seven. 90% of coins belong to a single entity. He/she/it just spreads those coins over many different accounts.
To be seriuos, if you mean: there were only 7 initial stakeholders, you are wrong, they were 73.

Why the heck did you killed the asset exchange 7 days after launch ?

Actually I like that they stopped showing all the assets because indeed investors should have to work to find the proper asset ID to enter into the client. It demonstrates you are at least doing a little bit of research and not blindly buying things like MSFT thinking you are actually buying shares of Microsoft.

I would not want to have those shady assets side-by-side the legit assets. Or the ones that are genuinely trying, anyway.

I agree that in the fast-evolving world of crypto the distribution has been a lil rough so far. Unfortunately the only way to correct this problem is for the large stakeholders to divvy up their stakes. As we've seen sometimes this comes at a cost of moving the markets downward. But its gotta happen sometime... do you want it to happen now or later?

We can only hope our NXT overlords are beneficent and much like the overlords of BTC would rather see their investment flourish and grow than be stamped out by greed.

Crypto currencies are high risk investments. Invest only what you can afford to lose.

The lowest risk method? Hm, just buy and hold for at least a year (it's a long-term investment, not a few weeks pump-n-dump kind of coin). If you intend to sell in a few weeks, don't bother, you will lose money guaranteed.

Bter.com is the best place to buy for newbies. Download official wallet, create an account with a long random pass phrase and withdraw from bter.com to your wallet.

themasknetwork, your questions are valid. let me try to answer them.

Why the heck did you killed the asset exchange 7 days after launch ?
yes, this was not a good move at a first look but it was necessary to motivate users to due diligence and keep the client
as neutral as possible. e.g. just showing the assets ( which order?, name, size, volume, etc.) represents an unwanted valuation
or scoring which is not good. for both, the investor and the client creators.

Are you going to do the same with digital good store. Just hide it  ?
looks like this is not decided yet but it could be that the same reasons are valid for the DGS but i am sure external services
like blockexplorers etc. will make them very visible. same btw, for the assets.

How can an artist sell anything when the price of NXT can drop 10% overnight ?
this is true and it still is until volatility calms down which needs time but this is a general problem for all cryptos here, even BTC.
of course a solution would be to wait until volatility reaches a level where purchases are better calculable but this is just wasting time
and deaccelerating dev speed. nobody really want this. instead, nxt is 'learning' until this stage is reached to provide a naturally grown,
ready to use and mature product.

How can an artist update the price for ...10.000 songs every day ?
it's all a question of demand. if there is demand for a batch updater someone will code one. nxt showed this capacity many times.
the current DGS (as all other features) are just cores of building blocks. code and product evolution will kick in and additional
features will complete those services just as needed to provide the most efficient usage. rome wasn't built in a day.

Why are you launching badly designed and incomplete products ?
while design dependys soley on personal flavour this question is invalid but regarding the second part. DGS is not incomplete.
you can be sure that additional features will add by time, just as needed (this is one big nxt strength, to react fast and efficient
if nessesary). also see the answer above please, providing a basic function core and looking to the usage and possible enhancements
makes sense. this way the product always meets users real-world requirements.

I can't agree. Who are we to judge? Anybody is free to invest as much money as they want for as long time as they prefer. Someone who bought NXT just two days ago, could sell today and make good profit.

To be honest, we're fairly crap at marketing NXT, right now we're more focused on getting the business and financial world on board with NXT than the general public.
Head on over to the NXT official forum:

And take a look around......

There are plans to set up a 'NXT Guide for Newbies' and all of the individual projects within the NXT eco-system are doing their own marketing:
https://nxtforum.org/nxt-projects/
but we don't really have a centralised marketing campaign.

Android app should be available soon, AFAIK there are 2 app projects in the pipeline.

When do you think NXT will be = $0 ?
I'm going for never on this one.
Take a look at CMC today: NXT seems to be breaking free of the link to BTC that is killing many other all-coins: NXT is rising hard aginst BTC, and maintaining/increasing slightly in fiat value.
Good place to be right now.

themasknetwork, your questions are valid. let me try to answer them.

Thank you for your answers. This is what i wanted to know.

I don't hate NXT, but the decision to hide everything still seams nonsense to me, because the purpose of markets is to "display" products in front of a wide audience of customers. Then customers will decide if they buy or what they buy.

This is a rare case where customers have to look for the products. It works for weed or cocaine, but i don't think it will work for securities...

Sorry for moronic or ironic question.
Why do you support NXT, if you are Qora treasurer?

Let me answer this with another question:

Why do you think those two things can go hand in hand?

On the one hand I think NXT is an incredible innovative system, on the other hand I want to help QORA succeed and offer free escrow for funds.

Are nxt supporters encouraged to spread FUD about other coins in order to try and steal their portion of market share?, as this practice might seem profitable in the short term the caustic atmosphere it creates will do damage in the long run by making the whole CryptoCurrency sector look like its just full of crypto-slugs slithering around not very attractive for anyone new.

NXT is super duper decentralized, nobody is encouraged to do anything, everyone does what they themselves think they should or must do.
My personal opinion - all is fair in love and war as they say. It's a crypto currency war, no prisoners will be taken, so get used to it.

NXT is holding in there. It turns out there is no rollback or hardfork and that a BTC randsome is being paid by bter, because the stolen NXT is being returned.

It was a bit unnerving to get an email specifically pleading for the NXT community to voluntarily recommend the "rollback" (at the time) in order to save bter and the individuals that had large amount of NXT on the exchange.

That's their problem to take up with bter, which is exactly what is happening, which is the right thing to do.

So... no hardfork = good

50m, not 500m. The difference matters; 500m would have been 50% of NXT, which would have been an existential threat. 50m is only 5%, and not a problem. And now most of that has been returned.

The Bter hack was not a Nxt security issue. As far as I can tell, they were using a cloud server account for which they hadn't enabled 2-Factor Authorisation, and they re-used the same password. They were stupid. They've accepted it was their mistake.

How much more initial stakeholder dumping... err... distribution do we have to go before the price starts going back up again?

It's all in the demand, my friend. If it's any consolation, a tight-knit community with little outside adoption is the best environment for managing & implementing those hardforks needed to implement all those innovations. Just compare the implementation record of Nxt's recent hardforks with the, uh, implementation path of Bitcoin's most recent softfork.

And then compare the smoothness of the entire process from hardfork proposal to new-and-improved codebase in Nxt with the, uh, spirited discussion of any proposed hardfork in Bitcoin's codebase.

The Bitcoin conservatives have solid ground to stand on, after all. Bitcoin is embedded into the "real" economy to the point where the implementation of any hardfork - no matter how necessary - would be a logistical nightmare. From this angle, Bitcoin is a victim of its own success.

So to answer your question, retooled as "When are we finally going to see enough outside demand pressure to overwhelm the stakeholder dumping... err... distribution to finally put NXT in a solid long-term bullish trend?", I suggest the proper answer is, "not until Nxt has a stable-enough codebase to welcome in folks who prefer wallet stability."

Irregardless of whether many NXT AE Assets are bubbles or carefully planned ponzis...
They have actual value and, by definition, can be converted at any time into NXT currency.

Therefore, the value of NXT currency must be >>> value of all NXT Assets.

The AE "loses ground" and cannot develop stable, growing volume...
Because NXT ignores Frederick Hayek's prescription for thriving markets with good price discovery.

(A)
Hayek said a market MUST attract 100s or 1000s of small, active traders with differing views and agendas...
This creates a healthy market with excellent price discovery and real liquidity.

(B)

NXT is designed for whales to put up buy/sell walls and manipulate their own Assets...
In the NXT Forum this shady fakery is viewed as "liquidity" = false.

The Big Kahunas at NXT will never understand or want (A)... so I don't trade there anymore.

i think its still too early for nxt for A to happen as the "mega-distribution" is still happening. as long as devs keep pumping out code with an active community it will get things a bit more distributed due to whales dumping. its just a matter of time. AE is only a little over 1 year old, so factor that in.

You have to be patient with NXT. Set low orders and wait for a whale is selling or flash crash and sell it on the next bulltrap.. These bulltrapps happen every 2-3 month before te price is going down again.

If you buy NXT and hold it for longterm you will probably lose money and daytrading is not possible without a big exchange

The Coin-O-Mat dividend system is great. It costs them 1 NXT to send me dividends of like 1.14593 NXTs; they don't seem to mind. So I actually bought more because I felt bad for them.

But now I haven't been able to check on the price for a while because my NXT database won't load. I suspect many others are undergoing the same problems and thats why the price remains so low.

Once they get a working client, it will rise up again somewhat -- at least for a while.

You're in Coinomat, eh? I've been in coinomat's MMNXT As (https://nxtforum.org/cryptoasset-fund-projects/mmnxt-market-making-and-arbitrage-fund-for-nxt-ae/)set, and I really like it. It pays almost like clockwork every week, and the return's decent.

In fact, I had this to say about it at the Nxt forum (https://nxtforum.org/cryptoasset-fund-projects/mmnxt-market-making-and-arbitrage-fund-for-nxt-ae/msg190646/#msg190646):

Quote from: Nxtblg
...there's one thing about MMNXT: it always pays. Regardless of the dividend's ups and downs - which is actually the best "proof of legitimacy" there is, because profit fluctuations are real life in the real market-making world - the dividend always comes through, week after week after week....

The Big Kahunas at NXT will never understand or want (A)... so I don't trade there anymore.

What makes you say that they wouldn't want A?

And even if that were true for whatever reason, InstantDEX is coming soon which is aimed at opening the door to make A a reality.

I love The NXT concept And its community. While I think it's a 2018-2020 concept, I could really use some buy support through 5500 satoshi in the present day. Can you help me out? Thanks in advance for your attention to this matter.

What do you think about the AE. is it helping or destroying the NXT ecosystem?
IMO it's much more helping.
AE is the only thing that gives NXT a $10,000,000 cap.

Irregardless of whether many NXT AE Assets are bubbles or carefully planned ponzis...
They have actual value and, by definition, can be converted at any time into NXT currency.

Therefore, the value of NXT currency must be >>> value of all NXT Assets.

AE Assets are often referenced as "beeing pathetic". On Coinmarketcap's Exchanger rankings the AE continually looses ground.

So yes, the AE Assets value gets reflected on NXT exchange rate.
Yeah i understand this. But in a good or a bad way? Scam assets isn't influencing the price in a bad way? ( least even those generate high volume on ae)

How is nxt not an instamine ico scam?

Because it was public and open for two months. And NXT doesn't have mining, so the term instamine doesn't apply anyway.

How is nxt not an instamine ico scam?

Back from my vacation, and back to the same old questions................. ;D

Take a look through the original [ANN] thread for Nxt:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=303898.0
You can see there exactly how Nxt was created, developed and distributed in it's first few months of existence from September 2013 onwards.

Now take a look at the technology that Nxt is offering:
http://www.nxttechnologytree.com/
Nxt has delivered a lot of functionality over the last 2 years.

Check how NXT was launched. Everyone had the chance to invest and participate. Max investment was 1 BTC. After launch every investor got the corresponding amount in nxt. Furthermore it is no POW but rather POS.

You guys are all on drugs. NXT was an instamine ico scam. Just live with it. Other instamine ico scam are doing the same shit. It's ok because it's part of the crypto world. Just pointing out the truth.

@NASdaq: thanks, mate!

@asuryan180 and @everyone, here's a couple of links to take a look at:

Latest news from the Drachmae project, which is based on Nxt technology: they are in partnership with Fashion TV and a greek TV production company to set up a "Greeces Next Supermodel" TV show. Heres the IndieGoGo page for what will probably become 'Athena' :
https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/athena-model-contest-agistri-island-greece-tv-show#/story

And heres some Forbes coverage for the proposed show:
http://www.forbes.com/sites/rogeraitken/2015/08/20/greek-crisis-agistri-islands-supermodel-tv-project-could-raise-fortunes-in-cryptocurrency-twist/

This is an example of what Nxt is doing: building infrastructure and partnerships in both crypto and the real world, bringing useful crypto technology to the non-crypto world while getting as much mainstream attention for crypto (and Nxt, naturally) as possible.

And, just for laughs, heres the latest technical addition to Nxt for the crypto-nerds: full support for offline transaction signing.
This allows for completely 'cold' air-gapped storage of NXT, with transaction authorisations transferred via QR code or USB
