Go away with that 100% premined scam you call NXT, where 50% of all NXT are held by just 30 people.

Me, too. I think that will be my first step as a part of the Economic Majority in Nxt as well.

I don't know BTC don't get paid by the lower users that send the coins....
This mean the top 50 will always be there because of the POS system

The early users mined BTC very easily with GPUs. They hold thousands of coins that are only made worth while by later people coming in and getting much less for their mining time/power. Seems pretty much the same to me.

That is great! The cryptos really need more real life applications only from which the cryptos are able to gain values. We really need a paradigm shift in thinking for cryptos in order to make the crypto technology useful and long lasting and profitable.

One good application is to resell amazon (and other web stores) gift cards that you can buy with paypal. That way you can convert your paypal to NXTs.

What you're thinking of is capitalism, not NXT. And yes, I don't like it either.

We've heard of people planning to sell MoneyPak's or Vanilla Reloads for example, so you can buy Nxt with Fiat direct.  I think your reputation depends on what you can sell, some people will definitely be selling physical items.

Will there be rules on what you can sell like on ebay, or no rules like the silk road?

No rules like Silk Road.  It's decentralized, so there is no one to tell you what you can or can't sell, and no fees.  Of course if you sell child porn on there, I will personally hunt you down and kill you.

I doubt the authorities will be too happy about it if it turns into another silk road.

I doubt they can do much about it if it's hosted in Denmark, Slovakia or some Eastern European country.  The only reason the Silkroad was shut down was because it was located in the United States which made it incredibly easy for the authorities to get hold of them.    The same thing happened with Napster.

Actually the biggest downside I can see to the DGS is that it might place downward pressure on NXT's price.  There's a lot of NXT whales, who can't pull their wallets without crashing the value of NXT, and yet are paper millionaires who want goods & services.

Much like I feel the Silkroad, although it brought some publicity to Bitcoin, may had been the reason why Bitcoin had no value for a long time.  If you have whales fireselling BTC to acquire drugs and guns then it lessens the value.  We are seeing a similar trend where mass merchant adoption of BTC only seems to be bringing down prices (due to merchants, seconds after getting their BTC, are fireselling for $Fiat as they have business expenses and employees to pay and most businesses take less than 10% in revenue as net profit.  Merchants are dumping 90%+ of the BTC they are receiving).

##

There will be a downwards pressure on NXT through buyers, but the media attention might be able to offset it. We will see what the net-effect will be.

I can see how the price will drop, but to me that is a natural part of the cycle.  For crypto to be a real currency, it needs to be alive, being spent, traded, bought, and sold.  I'm guessing that eventually in the end that a balance will be instituted.

Decentralized eBay and Amazon if you will.

It actually was supposed to be used for selling digital goods but nobody knows what people will use it for.

I think we will have a familiarization period (maybe half a year) and then people start raising issues here and there. Hence there will be an update to remedy them. It will be the same as with Asset Exchange of which we will have a version 2.0. So feel free, to give it a try and provide feedback.

His messages are so hilarious that I am starting to wonder if he's a plant from Ora to defame Qora   :D

If Qora keeps on being an annoyance some NXT whale will just buy it all up with pocket change and crash it down to $0.   :D

Is this going to be like ebay for digital stuff?

It doesn't really have to be digital stuff. You can communicate with the sellers via encrypted messages and make it physical stuff too.

In that sense, it's also encrypted email service where you can send someone shipping address and no one -- not even FBI -- will be able to decrypt the message.

If there are a lot new buyers and new users, that would mean upward pressure as those people would need nxt to buy

If the sellers immediately dump their Nxt for fiat, it would cancel out the upward pressure from new buyers. However, if the sellers hold it would mean upward pressure. Some of the sellers would have to immediately sell their Nxt to buy new stock, but some might hold their Nxt.

We need a lightweight version, like trade.secure. I tried talking to some c4s sellers, but of course not a single one was interested in installing softwares.

Zero interest.

I have seen saying for ages we need lightweight clients, and things like chrome plugins.

I have been considering writing a lightweight client so I don't have to d/l the blockchain on work PC. Any bounties available you thing?

But, how would this be different than the current web wallets out there? Granted, neither of them supports the AE, mgw, or DGS.

Making something like a Nxt Electrum could be very beneficial, but it would be much more complicated than building a Bitcoin/Litecoin version. Electrum "protects you from losing coins in a backup mistake or computer failure, because your wallet can be recovered from a secret phrase that you can write on paper or learn by heart. There is no waiting time when you start the client, because it does not download the Bitcoin block chain."

Features:
"Instant on: Your client does not download the blockchain. It uses a network of specialized servers that index the blockchain.
Forgiving: Your wallet can be recovered from a secret seed.
Safe: Your seed and private keys are encrypted on your hard drive. They are never sent to the servers.
Low trust: Information received from the servers is verified using SPV. Servers are authenticated using SSL
No downtimes: Your client is not tied to a particular server; it will switch instantly if your server is down.
Ubiquitous: You can use the same wallet on different computers, they will synchronize automatically.
Cold Storage: Sign transactions from a computer that is always offline. Broadcast them using a machine that does not have your keys.
Reachable: You can export your private keys into other Bitcoin clients."

IMO- all coins that want to be successful should have a solution such as this where downloading the block chain is not necessary, or at the very least a "mini blockchain"-like implementation which uses a ledger that is shortened periodically rather than having a history of every transaction since the genesis block.

An electrum version of Nxt would be different from most web wallets in that you have complete control of your wallet and private key- the secret phrase to unlock your wallet is never stored on the servers. I think it is a much safer version of a web wallet.

By the way- this Nxt marketplace is freaking sweet. I like it. :)

I disagree. NXT already uses a brain wallet concept. You could think of that as the seed if you want.

So, My NXT Lite wallet could take two approaches, I could decide or leave it up to the user:

1. The user remembers his passphrase/seed and nothing is stored for him. Since this is a "light wallet" it will remember your ID(s) and can display your balances/assets etc by only knowing your ID. You could even "add" an address without every giving the wallet the password/seed.

2. It could work like a bitcoin wallet. Where it creates a wallet.dat file to store your passphrases and encrypt that wallet file using a password/pin your provide. Either the wallet can generate a password/key for you or you can provide (import) an existing wallet.

Nothing complicated about it. It looks/feels the same to the end user as the current Electrum if that is what people wanted. The software could even be deterministic, it could generate a seed, and then use that seed to generate additional accounts if you wanted more than one. So, you could recover a whole bunch of IDs with a single seed.

Well, you would need to add support for all of the different features Nxt is implementing, right? That is the only reason I thought it would be more complicated, as Bitcoin/Litecoin Electrum clients don't need to worry about support for an asset exchange, marketplace, etcetra. Then again I am not a developer and you sound like you know a lot more about Nxt than I do. :)

I am a developer and do understand how NXT works, even though I haven't looked at its implementation code but mostly at the API.

I can reuse the NRS and MGW Lite UI, so it would be a matter of creating a Proxy that has the same API as the NRS and pass them onto a service API to get the information and perform the functions needed.

Not bad for only a few days.  Maybe we should make a tutorial for how to use the marketplace? Does it exist already?

Regarding price, the way I see it:
Price goes down due to:
-Merchants being paid in Nxt, then selling those Nxt to cover USD expenses

Price goes up due to:
-People buying Nxt, so they can buy items sold via marketplace
-Nxt being used as more of a currency as I suspect that merchants are more likely to keep their money as Nxt.  Partially because it's more of a hassle to cash out then it is via BitPay.  Partially because this should attract those interested in crypto more than others, and they are therefore less likely to cash out.
-Increased marketing for Nxt as it's yet another very cool feature of Nxt
-People downloading the client, realizing all the cool features Nxt has and getting over that initial hassle of setting it up so they can sell items, then deciding that they'll hold on to some Nxt.

Volume goes up in general.

I see it as sort of the craigslist of crypto.

Craigslist is not decentralized. They can censor you. They can ban your account.

Try banning a seller on Nxt.

There is the difference.

Plus, craigslist doesn't have any any payment mechanism. Payment processors have their own rules and can take large percentage of your profit.

Try doing that with decentralized market.

I gather one of the problems is lack of a repeating subscription feature. They want to sign you up and then you pay 20 NXT a month automatically until you cancel. No crypto-currency supports that yet. I hope it will be one of the things covered by Smart Contracts, or Automated Transactions, or whatever. It's a basic banking facility that would also be useful for paying mortgages etc.

But yeah.. CfA is obviously just trying to manipulate opinions rather than having a real discussion.

Regarding censoring, there are some centralized sites that will be doing that type of censoring and only posting the items they want.  Melido.us is for example creating a site to sell music via the marketplace.

Also, you can view the shops of individual users, so people can can choose what shops they would like to shop from.

It's already possible to buy drugs or most of that stuff online, heard of dark net?  Already possible to buy that stuff: http://motherboard.vice.com/en_uk/read/i-let-grams-guide-me-through-the-dark-nets-illegal-bazaars

Anyway nxt community would like to try to distance itself from that stuff and there will be plenty of legitimate businesses selling goods via the marketplace.  And regarding legitimate uses, think about selling music via iTunes, Nxt will charge a very low fee relatively speaking, meaning artists make more and customers pay less because we're cutting out the middle man.  Same for eBooks and computer games.

Point being, there are legitimate uses for the marketplace.

When will NXT have Smart Contracts, or Automated Transactions? They are testing it but when will NXT get it out of test phase?
Probably later this year. I think it's at least 2 updates away, though.

You can follow along in this thread that is dedicated just to talk about the Nxt tech and future releases:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=831202.0

There is nothing 'official' about it and is subject to change. There is no plan set in stone and has been changed (i.e. Voting and Multisig are now coming out together instead of one after the other)

I have pieced it together from comments the devs give. It just gives you an idea  ;)
