Title: Cheapest country in Europe to start a business
Post by: hgerson on August 22, 2014, 12:37:28 AM

The title says it all  ;D

What is cheapest country in Europe to start a business?

And where do you pay less taxes?

I see somewhere that when you move to UK you don't have to pay taxes for a certain period of time. Is this true?

AHAHAHAHAHAHHAAAAAAAA!!

Okay, but seriously I need to double check on whether that's true, even if it is true, the taxes here are extortion and good luck being middle class in this country because your income gets taxed so much unless you're a pretty high earner that you'll technically end up right in the lower class income bracket again, no joke.

If I make even a middle class amount of money I'm considering leaving here because the UK government treats its people like shit.

If you leave the UK, why not come to South Africa. With a 17 to 1 exchange rate, you would probably be quite well off here if you are middle class in the UK.

South Africa's too hot! >_< Probably wouldn't be able to stand living there I'm afraid :P I'm thinking Northern Japan where it's pretty much like Scotland but with more snow, the housing prices I've seen there are insanely cheap and I need to do more research but car insurance looks reasonable.

Surely you've seen me bitching about this on off topic? I'm really sensitive to heat.

Edit: Somehow managed to type country instead of money, fixed lol

Some of the eastern european countries prob provide the best balance between legitimacy, low taxes and good infrastructure
I have heard folks speak well of Poland though it's a little higher cost

It depends actually what kind of business one wants to start!
If it's a local one, one shouldn't do it in 3rd world countries or countries that are somewhat poor like Bosnia and relating countries in the region.

Moldova, Romania, Bulgaria, Belarus, Poland, Albania, Serbia, Macedonia, and Ukraine all offer very low costs for start-ups.  But most of them are dangerous/unstable.

My pick would be Poland, Czech, Slovakia, Slovenia, Croatia, a Baltic state, or Hungary.  These counties have a nice balance between reasonable costs, highly skilled locals, and acceptable corruption levels.

Yes, but Bosnia has the bigger-than-Giza pyramids that will soon make Bosnia rich. Then everything will get expensive like the other wealthy nations.

Stopped looking at banks after hearing about Bitcoin.

:)

EDIT: Seems to me that Lithuania changed their regs on starting banks back when the banking industry started to get all uptight on money laundering.

Is that so? Exactly how long do you think will it take for such a poor country to excavate at least one of those completely? I've also read from scientists that the man in charge (no idea about the name) isn't professional enough and that some got damaged already. Do you think that the US or EU will ever acknowledge these pyramids? You must realize that the whole history that we're being taught is wrong then.  ;)
So I'm not going to put my bets up for Bosnia or any Balkan countries just yet.
I'm not sure how cheap it is to start a business in Monaco ( :D) but I've heard that the tax is good.

Most of our recorded history is taught wrong to begin with even when we have all the facts, it's no big surprise to anybody who actually tries to study it and finds all the different perspectives governments have.

So most people agree that Bosnia is a good place to register a company.

Are these costs up to date?

How easy is to apply for a Bosnian passport when you already have the company registered?

Bosnia is a good choice. Even though their economy is still recovering and has a lower growth, any further development especially if your planning something in the IT sphere has a huge potential.

I would say Ukraine.
But remember you get what you pay. so expect to wait few times more to open any business as you woudl wait in let say Switzerland or Lichtenstein or Austria. Those taxes goes into something and at some places are well used.

Oh and you might have to pay some other kind of taxes, also called bribe, to move things a bit faster, or at all.

Depends what kind of business you are after, because you have to have capable workforce and enough raw materials near by as well as the ability to sell those products. Take everything into consideration.

You're kidding right?

I'm not following the situation in those countries by the minute but they were well fucked.

I hope they're recovering but I don't think Cyprus, Greece, Portugal good alternatives to do anything right now.

Portugal at least I know it's not good to start a business or to buy a passport. Too many taxes and bureaucracy...

Quote
Edmundas B. was in Tel Aviv when he got the idea for a startup to better connect web designers and developers with their clients.

Grabbing his mobile phone and laptop, he quickly set up an LLC, for his startup TrackDuck, back in his home country of Lithuania.

He’d previously tested setting up businesses in Tel Aviv and Tallinn, both of which are quite prominent tech startup locations in the world, but in the end he decided to move TrackDuck back to Vilnius.

Why?

Because Lithuania is a small country with big aspirations, and with the right attitude to make them happen.

Being quite small and unknown, Lithuania has had to work hard to build up an attractive reputation.

The best places in the world to live and do business are often some of the smallest, for precisely this reason. Not only are the governments generally more in touch with their populations, but they’ve got to try much harder to appeal to outsiders.

When countries are actively competing for you and your business, you are always the winner.

They want your business and so they’re willing to make things easier for you to start it there. That is why in Lithuania it takes up to 100 euros and less than a week to start a business.

Even after starting up, they want to keep you, which is why the country is home to one of the lowest tax regimes and slimmest bureaucracies in the European Union.

Here you can have the benefit of direct access to the coveted European market, whilst minimizing your costs as a business.

Even as an individual, relocating to Vilnius is great for your budget. For those who like Europe, but not the prices, Vilnius is in the Top 5 least expensive EU capitals for living costs. So you are able to get European standards of living at a fraction of the cost. And you’re a short and cheap flight away from the rest of the continent.

Eager to take advantage of all this, a number of tech and online startups have sprung to relocate their operations to Vilnius. A significant number of Russian startups are amongst this list, but businesses are coming in from all over. This includes prominent online web-development platform Wix.com, based in Tel Aviv, which recently moved its app development department to Vilnius.

As a part of the European Union, talent as well as capital can and does easily flow in from any part of the region.

Locals are highly skilled, with not only university degrees as the norm, but English and usually Russian language proficiency as well. It’s generally common for students to spend their summers working abroad, and in the UK in particular, making for easy communication and capable people.

Investors are taking notice of Lithuania as well, with Accel Partners and Insight Venture Partners recently putting $27 million into a local Lithuanian startup Vinted.

In general, Vilnius is simply an artsy-cool place to be. In just this past summer alone there were over 60 festivals in the lush forests that cover the whole country, attracting people from all over to join in the Lithuanian vibe.

This vibe certainly crosses over into the startup scene, with frequent startup events in the capital. Whether it be for entrepreneurship, art, or music, you will always find something new and interesting to be a part of in Vilnius.

It is not only about not being taxes in Europe because you want to have access to infrastructures and be close to your customers for some businesses. You find the best skilled workers in Eastern Europe compared to their cost.

Maybe you want to research more extensively.

Wikipedia has some info about taxes in Europe, for example here : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_tax_revenue_as_percentage_of_GDP

I think that right now Albania and Kosovo are the cheapest countries in Europe to start a business.
Of course, this 2 countries have their own problems, specially Kosovo (not fully recognized as independent country), a lot corruption and economic problems but if you can find some good business or political connection there, I guess that you can build good business there.

Albania and Kosovo are not part of the European Union so you can't access the EU market as easily as if you are based in a EU state.

LOL! :D I thought about Canada, it's a bit too close to the U.S for my liking though as for the weather winter is coming now so I'm a lot happier with it being cold again.

Canada's taxes are definitely not low.

OP: I'd say Belgium, extremely low tax rates  ;D

Not sure about the cost exactly but some of the "controversial" businesses and small ones are located in Slovakia, Not sure if this is just due to easier rules for some industries or because there taxes/costs are reasonable for small businesses.

What is cheapest country in Europe to start a business?

And where do you pay less taxes?

Only Monaco and Vatican have official 0% income tax in Europe. But everywhere you can adjust the system to zero, if you use offshore companies.

I recommend you to avoid €-based countries, because there are too many taxations here, the consumption is declining and the economy is stagnant.

Anyway, there are many European countries which don't use EUR as currency and are very interesting to start a business there.
First of all, I'd like to mention Bulgaria, a nice place where the taxes are really low.
Then you may consider some tax havens nearby the UK, like Isle of Man, Jersey and Guernsey.

Which business are you planning to start here in Europe?

- European countries without Euro have sometimes even more complicated tax systems; e.g. Serbia, Croatia, Hungary, Czech vs. Slovakia (is in EUR zone)

- Bulgaria defacto has Euro; Bulgarian lev is pegged to DM and then EUR for 15 years!!! 1 EUR = 1.95583 BGN. The country gave up monetary policy and it is often mentioned that this helped them.

At least they cannot devaluate their currency but the ECB can devaluate Euro. Euro has been depreciating for months now.

If you are doing an online business and you need developers you should go where you can have the developers to grow your business or you could go where you have low taxes and hire developers that are somewhere else.

They can devaluate the currency, if they abandon the peg or devalaute the exchange rate. It hapened in Argentina and many other countries. Problem of Bulgary is that they donot revalue I guess. It is maybe great for taxes, but ppl arevery poor there.

Generally doing online business starts with offshore comapny and no taxes at all. It does not matter where the person is. If your biz is 100% online, there is no need to pay taxes. But good shell structure of firms must be chosen. It is not so expensive. The most expensive are then fees from banks that cooperate in this "tax evasion".

We don't know if he wants to start a 100% online business, maybe he wants to sell real goods. Maybe he is thinking about opening a cloud-mining service to enjoy a portion of all the money to be made cloud mining.
