Title: Russia invades Ukraine
Post by: DodoB on August 28, 2014, 05:27:49 PM
"(Reuters) - Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said on Thursday that Russian forces had entered his country and the military conflict was worsening after Russian-backed separatists swept into a key town in the east.

Poroshenko said he was cancelling a visit to Turkey and conferring with defense chiefs because of the "rapidly deteriorating situation" in the eastern Donetsk region, "as Russian troops have actually been brought into Ukraine".

A NATO military officer said: "We assess well over 1,000 Russian troops are now operating inside Ukraine... They are supporting separatists (and) fighting with them."

The strong takes whatever they want from the weak.

The world has been operating this way for thousands of years. Nothing is new here.

It seems like that:

- Wolf! Wolf!
- Where?
- He disappeared, must be afraid of us.
- Wolf!
- Where is your wolf?
- He's already ran out of here.
- Wolf! Wolf!
- Get the fuck out.
- But there is a real wolf, I need your help!
- I said get the fuck out.
- Aaa! Somebody help me! Aarggcchhkrrrppsshhh.

The same old story

Poroshenko has been lying non-stop for some time now. That said, there are somewhere around 3,000 to 4,000 Russian citizens fighting alongside the rebels, making as much as 10% of the rebel strength. But most of these people are Cossacks, ex-servicemen and simple volunteers. A few are active Russian soldiers who are currently on leave. Also, there are Spaniards, Serbs, Greeks and Armenians fighting for the rebels in Donetsk and Lugansk. But Kiev should not complain much. There are Americans and Canadians fighting for them.

Basically, this:
http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2014-08-28/ukraine-accuses-russia-launching-invasion-then-promptly-retracts

This is yet another character assassination attempt on Putin and demonisation of Russia. First Putin personally shot a non-existent Buk, now Putin personally drives a tank into Ukraine.
And interesting analysis of this personal verbal assaults on Putin here:

And a greater historical perspective on where all this comes from here:

Russia’s Defense Ministry ridicules NATO’s photo-proof of invasion in Ukraine
http://rt.com/news/183536-nato-images-ridiculed-russia/

Quote
It makes no sense to comment in detail on the satellite imagery released by NATO as “proof” of Russia’s military involvement in Ukraine, Defense Ministry’s spokesman said, pointing out that even high NATO officials were hesitant to put their names on it.

...

“You know, it has become ridiculous… If earlier, someone would at least put their names on those images, be it Breedlove, Rasmussen, or even Lungescu, now, they are hesitant,” Konashenkov said as cited by RIA Novosti. “It makes no sense to seriously comment on this.”

...

Russia's permanent representative to the EU Vladimir Chizhov also said neither NATO, the United States or the European Union have presented any evidence of Russian troop presence in the east of Ukraine.

According to him, the “stuffing of misinformation through the media and directly from Kiev” each time is carried out on the eve of important meetings at the EU level, this time ahead of the summit on August 30 in Brussels, “probably in anticipation of some critical language and even sanctions from the EU,” Itar-Tass quotes.

And some entertainment:
http://rt.com/news/183548-canada-geography-tweet-russia/

Plus this food for thought:
Quote
On Tuesday, President Vladimir Putin said that Ukrainian troops regularly cross the Russian border both armed and unarmed, intentionally or unintentionally, and were never charged with anything and allowed to freely return to Ukraine.

Ukraine is already invaded, but not by Russia.

This is the biggest US embassy in Europe (!):
http://wt2010.info/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/usa-embassy-kiev.jpg
It's located in Kiev, ostensibly, the least economically and politically important country in Europe. Not in Germany, not in France, not in the UK, but in Kiev.
According to some Ukrainian workers, involved in the construction in 2004, during the previous Western-sponsored president Yushenko, the underground part is even bigger than the above ground construction and can house a small army.

And this is the building of SBU (Ukrainian secret service) in Kiev:

The fourth floor is used by the CIA and is off-limits to the Ukrainian officers.

Vladimir Putin invades Ukraine, Iraq is still spiraling out of control with the ISIS Caliphate, Syria still in civil war with IISIS controlling much of Iraq and Syria, Boko Harum selling school girls as sex slaves... This is the vacuum left by the USA as they cut and run from the world scene. Yes this is the Barack Obama Foreign Policy!

That is the plan.

The US will not export LNG from its terminals, as it is not having enough stock. But remember that the foremost ally of the US in the Middle-East (Qatar) is the biggest producer of LNG in the world. So the NATO will shut down Russian gas, which is trading at $380 per Kilo Cubic Meter, and replace it with the Qatari LNG, which is twice as expensive.  ;D

This pretty much sums it up. Obama has refused to get involved in any way with most/all world conflicts, even after "red lines" have been crossed. He has also withdrawn from the existing ones that the US needs to be a part of.

I disagree. The world is now a much more dangerous place due to his inaction on international crises. Terrorist organizations have been able to proliferate and are more likely able to pull off a major terrorist attack thanks to his foreign policy.

How do you reach that conclusion? When Bush was president al-quaita was powerful and controlled a country (afghanistan) and then some. Bush was able to essentially dismantle al-quaita, if you are implying that ISIS is a "child" organization of al-quaita then I do not have any evidence to dispute that (although I do not know how accurate it is), but regardless ISIS is much weaker then al0quaia ever was.

Whoop de fucking do. What the hell is the west going to do? Try to implement actions which are meant to inflict long term pain on Russia (ie sanctions) while trying to achieve the sharp pain to make Putin rethink his plan? While some might argue sanctions are working, I would argue that Russia only understands the kind of strength that gunpowder and fighter jets bring. As some of you might remember, this isn't the first time mother russia did this. Georgia anyone?

Fixed it for you. You know the consequences of invading Russia - you'll be chased out and chased back all the way to your layer. Saakashvilian (an arrest warrant on him has been issued to Interpol now, by the way) Georgian troops have experienced it first hand, when they invaded South Ossetia, which was under Russian protection.

Putler, you said? Certainly gave me a good laugh. :D
Well, Putler said he could occupy Kiev in 2 weeks and I believe he is right (maybe 3-4 weeks because of logistics issues).

So far this is not a full scale invasion, but an incursion meant to weaken the Ukraine troops and strengthen the rebels.
The best strategy for the West would be to assist Ukraine with weapons that can be used with little training, and help
incur large losses on Russian troops. At some point, the price would be too high for Putin to continue the aggression.
But such a strategy won't be supported by the commie muslim Obummer and stasikanzlerin Merkel.

So in the end I believe Putin will get what he wants, a new state of Novorossiya (the East and South of Ukraine),
that will join the Russian Federation and strengthen his case for the rebirth of the Soviet Union.

I think that Putin simply didn't want to frighten the public... Because in fact, it's not quite true and only idiots in Kiev or NATO would be able to consider an idea of invasion from the east as some kind of optimal way. There are enough troops in Belarus, they're much closer to Kiev and there is no need to use additional forces. In case of real invasion, everything would began from northern part of Ukraine and occupation of Kiev would be a matter of 48-96 hours.

Kiev isn't under occupation now and Poroshenko didn't shoot himself yet. Yatsenyuk didn't poisoned himself with sodium cyanide and still appears on the TV... Taking these facts into account, it's safe to bet that there is no invasion. But, maybe, there are hallucinations.

lol... the situation will stabilize soon, when NAF conquers Kiev. The junta have lost more than one-third of its battle-worthy troops till now. Most of the remaining troops are from provinces such as TransCarpathia and Odessa, and are ideologically not motivated to fight. May be one or two weeks more... and Kiev will not be having anymore active troops in the Donbass.

A  small group of Ukrainians have been holding the Donetsk airport despite weeks of attacks -- the worst was yesterday, when they came under heavy artillery fire. But they held the airport and say that they inflicted heavy losses on the Russian side. During Russian attacks, they evidently hide in the airport's basements where they also hold Russian prisoners.
