Hello newbie bitcoiners,



You read that right. Amazingrando and I have teamed up to raffle off a massive 50Gh one week mining contract to the lucky winner. Each ticket is only .5 BTC each!

Imagine, turning .5 BTC into 223 BTC (or more if you run on GPUMAX), a return of at least 450 times the cost of a single ticket.

So you’re probably wondering, “how can I verify that these guys actually have the hashes to back this up”. We wondered the same thing.... so here are some links to ease your worries.

Rules of the contest:

• The odds of winning this raffle is 1 / (total # of tickets sold)
• This raffle will end on Friday, April 27, 2012 at 3pm EST.
• You may purchase as many tickets as you like.
• Whether buying a single ticket or bulk tickets, each ticket will have its own ticket number and therefore a unique hash.
• The only piece of information you need to submit is your email address. This will be hashed so it will not be given out to the public.
• The raffle will be decided by:
  
  • We will combine the SHA256 hash of each email address with the hash of your ticket number and the first block hash to be found after the raffle ends. Here is an example:
  • sha(sha(email) + sha(ticketNumber) + hashOfBlockFound)
  • The lowest hash wins!
• The mining contract will start within 48 hours of second party validation of the results.

Should have put a  ;) to indicate my use of sarcasm there. Neither Amazingrando or I will be purchasing any tickets for the raffle. We are already supplying some of our mining incomes to this little project which is ~$1,200.

hi, I would like to enter but have no mining or mining contracts experience, I have set up an account with ABC Pool, do you just point your miner at this for the winner, with their worker name & worker's password? Sorry to be such a noob

I have also set up an account with gpumax & added the ABC pool to it, I think it's correct but not certain if I need to add a worker there - or does this just complicate things for me, thanks

If anyone doesn't have mining experience, don't worry. We'll help get you setup with a pool account and get you started if needed.

As for your specific situation, looks like you have everything setup correctly. We will point the hashing power wherever you like. Here is the FAQ from the main thread.

There are a lot of pool choices.  If you're feeling lucky you can mine on a proportional pool like deepbit or slush's.  If a block is found early you could really earn a lot.  It you don't want to risk it there are many good DGM pools out there including Ozco.in and Maxbtc

Thanks for the cool raffle, but if I win I'm gonna need some help setting up for max return. I've been reading a lot, but all I've been able to play with is some useless cpu mining because my graphics chip is too old to be useful. But I've got a bit of cash to invest and I'm looking at the more affordable FPGA products out there.

The best way to get coins quickly is to use https://www.bitinstant.com/. Charlie runs a great business and you can deposit cash at a bank and have the fund in http://mtgox.com in under and hour.

Don't worry about getting things setup, we'll help out the winner and make sure they get all setup.  :)

Thanks for the info, BitInstant looks great, I think they're the lowest fees I've seen yet for accepting cash at a bank. I'll probably use them when I can get transportation to a bank. :)

But for now, a kind soul has passed me .5BTC and I've entered the raffle! I think it was bitcoinbox.ru, because it showed up in my wallet right after I PMed him about adding his real-time BTC counter to my web site, but I haven't gotten a PM back yet so I'm not sure. As soon as I've got enough time and posts I'll be posting to his thread at https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=73977.0.

I really like it but it isn't the biggest pot ever for a bitcoin raffle, last month's BitLotto was 280 BTC & the current one is going to be more than that - check my sig

Your ticket number is decided by when you purchase your tickets. The first purchase will get 1 through the total number of tickets purchased in the order. And on it goes.

The odds are pretty good.

Consider the $150 prize for Mega Millions.  The odds are 1/13,781.  The odds in this raffle are hugely better for a prize that's worth 8x as much!  ;)
