Title: [ANN] OFFICIAL VOTE for Boolberry (BBR) Renaming/Rebranding!
Post by: windjc on September 17, 2014, 09:50:54 PM
Boolberry (BBR) has served as our coin name for short while now. But as we grow as a community, we have come to an important stage of development where a rebrand is needed in order to progress as needed.

In today's overcrowded market of cryptocurrency being easily brandable is essential to staying relevant. As a community we welcome every new opportunity to reach our goal of becoming the world’s premier anonymous and completely secure coin.

Today we're launching this poll to include three selected rebrand names that we're sure will be a new path and inspiration to our project.

This rebranding is the first of several big developments in the works for our community. We've never been more excited about our direction.

If you are a BBR community member or supporter, we welcome your VOTE for the new Boolberry brand.  You can cast your vote in this thread by simply posting a response with the name you like most. Voting in this way will eliminate votes from sockpuppets, trolls, and other non-community members. The poll will last 48 hours, ending at 10:00 PM UTC Friday September 19th.

We welcome you to participate!

Rune

Hints at technology:

Rune was an ideographic or pictographic symbol of some cosmological principle or power, and to write a rune was to invoke and direct the force for which it stood. Indeed, in every Germanic language, the word “rune” (from Proto-Germanic *runo) means both “letter” and “secret” or “mystery,” and its original meaning, which likely predated the adoption of the runic alphabet, may have been simply “(hushed) message.”[1]

*1 syllable, 4 letters – easy to remember.
*Does have a feeling of currency: "The price of the item is seven runes".
*Unique name in technology world.
*Have already secured domain Runeproject.com
*Easily brandable
*Ease of pronunciation
*Suitable to international audience

[1] Source: http://norse-mythology.org/runes/

Secore

*Hints at technology:

Our main idea "Security + core + currency = Secore” and ore/or/ora implies gold is several languages.

*2 syllables, 6 letters – easy to remember (Pronounced Se’core)
*Does have a feeling of currency: "The price of the item is seven secores".
*Sounds interesting and technological.
*Easily brandable
*Ease of pronunciation
*Suitable to international audience

Vortex

*Hints at technology:

Vortex meaning “circle” or “ring”. Medical term meaning “to mix” by means of a rapid whirling or circular motion. Alternate spelling of vertex, latin word for crown of head or farthest point up from base.

*2 syllables, 6 letters - easy to remember
*Strong, masculine and scientific name.
*Easily brandable
*Ease of pronunciation
*Suitable to international audience

I would cast my vote towards the Rune,  although I believe we have pretty strong and great options here.

All 3 choices have been endorsed and approved by Crypto_Zoidberg.  I am sure he will be along to cast his vote shortly. :)

Why no option to keep the Boolberry name?  I think it's a great name and much better by far than the 3 options.

Boolberry has been a controversial brand name from the start. There are a lot of reasons for this that have been discussed many times over the last several months. Instead of going into details about this in the voting thread, feel free to PM me or Bitcrea or Crypto_Zoidberg for more information.

Look, I'll post this once, so that there won't be an misunderstanding. :)

This vote is for supporters of the BBR community, coin and technology. Its not an open vote for the entire crypto world that has all its separate agendas.   Some people might want to keep Boolberry. This is understandable, as people get use to a name and grow to like it. However, in this case, keeping Boolberry is not an option. The Boolberry name is being retired.

So this thread isn't the place for that discussion. However, you can PM Crypto_Zoidberg or myself or Bitcrea to discuss your opinion about this. I am more than happy to chat with you about it.

But we have to keep this thread clean from all the clutter that people will try to bring into it for various reasons.

So posts will be deleted that aren't on point.

If you are an avid supporter of BBR then please PM me to discuss your opinions.

Thanks!

Vortex
......
Has this passed crypto_zoidberg?

Sure. It was not easiest decision, but we finally decided to come up with new name and brand before major development steps.

I'm personaly in love with Rune because it have slight hint to technology: "Runes" is derived from "secret, mistery" and was used to refer to ancient cipher.... that was often hard or impossible to read, and that's exactly reflects CryptoNote blockchain, which is hard to analyze as well!

I vote for Rune!

Zoidberg

Given the choices, I vote Rune. I think the names can definitely grow on you.

However it's a broad term, ripple had purchasing power to secure ripple.com and associate the term ripple with their project, not sure the same could happen here, runescape is pretty well known

As that other coins rebrand came out after this poll was announced, they have no direct claim on that name in my opinion. However, there are other variations of Vortex that can be used, such as Vortec.

However we will cross this bridge when we come to it. A domain has already been secured for this name, fyi, in case it wins. We will not back away from the name with the most votes, in any case.

Oh right, Didn't realise they just snatched it now.

IMO vortex doesn't really work. You couldn't ask someone to send you 25 vortexes. Plus it's a bit edgy, like linkin park edgy. Doesn't come across so professional. I think it conjures up images of bitcoin-qt clone by teenage dev team or some sort of hackforums project.

Asking to send/receive 25 runes works though. Very simple and doesn't have inclusion of Bit, coin etc.

However it's a broad term, ripple had purchasing power to secure ripple.com and associate the term ripple with their project, not sure the same could happen here, runescape is pretty well known

I think this is a very important point. You're not gonna get rune.com, and I doubt you will ever come up as the first result if someone searches for "rune" in google. All three options probably suffer from this same problem, except maybe secore (secore.com is not available and I imagine google will just autocorrect people to "secure"). For this reason I'll abstain from voting; I think this is a bad idea, given the options available.

Honestly, i liked BoolBerry from when i first heard it, but would always vote for BazaarNote and keep the same logo :) I do not think the name is too important if it does not have some bad connotation, so Rune is fine as it is short, strong and easy to remember. But the point that it will never pop up first in google search seems valid

Good point. :) However I think you might be underestimating the SEO skills of some of the people on our team. I personally have over 5 years in SEO experience and have ranked sites at the top of search engines with much more competitive terms than Rune, Secore, or Vortex.

If Rune gets choosen, it will eventually rank at the top of the search engines in my honest opinion.:)

I dont understand everyone wanting to go for Rune or Vortex as a name. Its like someone just came from playing a session of Mortal Kombat and decided to grab a few words out of the playing manual.

Im going to vote for "Secore"

- firstly because its the only name that looks like it was picked based on any actual substance, technical background or thought - and secondly because as something a little more abstract it cant be related or confused with anything else.

At least with Boolberry it was something interesting - the other 2 choice are just so drab i cant begin to express how shit i feel they are - absolutely zero relation to what the project is about and has ties to weird mythical/druid/time travel...great...

The three name you posted are even worse than boolberry.

If you want to change the name, at least ask the community about the name "Rings". It's the one that make the most sense. Though from what I understand, the problems seems SEO... But is it that big of a reason to avoid the best name for a CN coin?

Truly rings beats all 3 available options. Even if you're a total newbie and got only superficial knowledge of CN coins it immediately reminds you of the ring signatures. Besides being explicitly linked to core cryptography of the coin it also sounds good. I feel like rings should have been among the options to vote for.

Where/when was the poll that decided to change the name in the first place?

Oh, it never happened.

When/when did we decide to only consider these three godawful names?

Oh, that didn't happen either.

Yesterday i was not too thrilled with Rune, but today i've been reading about its meaning and that's some powerful stuff! It is growing on me fast. I'm highly against Vortex, and Secore does sound unique but Rune has the ancient energy! If you think you can solve a search engine problem, count my vote and long live the Rune! :D

EDIT: But still not sure if i wouldn't propose "Bazaarune" for voting... from BazaarNote! Rune for short  ;D
At least it would save the effort for new logo. Just to see how it sounds...
Bazaarune, The most advanced CryptoNote!  :D

I'm not crazy about any of these new names, although I do think they are better than Boolberry, which was better suited as the name of a cereal.

Secore reminds me of Secor Laxatives (brand used in MadMen).

So out of what is left, I guess I'd choose Rune. Not great, but not completely ridiculous either.

BRANDING is not a decision that should be based on voting, instead it should be based on a proffessional effor. Also proper research for these subjects never has the form of "please mister John Doe give us your opignion".

Anyway since you have decided to do it this way?

RUNE= Hideous self distructing choice.

VOTREX= good for a massive pump & dump coin

SECORE= The best of the lot, has an aura of Science Fiction and Near Future. I vote for this.

Also bring in an option to keep Boolb, its the fairest thing.

How would one pronounce Rune in American English? From OP, it appears it should be "ruu-nee"?
To me it sounds too close to "rupee", a currency I'd much like to distant from.
Rune tends to be pronounced similar to "prune", which again, sounds too much like ruin.

I advise that serious consideration should be put forth on the new name; after all, this coin has already gone through 2 naming. A third might break this camel's back. Even with the limited 3 choices, 48 hours would not be enough time to gather a good sampling from current BBR holders.

I vote for secore since it sucks the least.

How would one pronounce Rune in American English? From OP, it appears it should be "ruu-nee"?
To me it sounds too close to "rupee", a currency I'd much like to distant from.
Rune tends to be pronounced similar to "prune", which again, sounds too much like ruin.

That was actually a typo thats been corrected. Rune is 1 syllable.

"Rune" is pronounced "roon" in American English. I'm not a BBR owner, but I agree that its current name is a serious handicap. "Rune" is quite good from the point of view of English speakers, both denotatively and connotatively.

wtf rename.

first time i saw bbr thread  i thought: "ok nice coin so they put that name to instamine that shit; then they will rebrand it; awesome strat! I'm out!"

then i saw some nice community moves; some support around zoidberg etc; i ended up concluding that my ideas were wrong and bought

then that.

so seeing that shit; i want to sincerely say: fuck you bbr.

now i let you work (call me monero troll is your main job no?)

for good pr and transparency i advise you to make a nice graph with emission curve; actual difficulty and the rebranding schedule so new investors know exactly where they're buying. Or not

It's a rigged vote and all the options are pathetic.

How gullible do you think we are? A modded voting thread is fucking ridiculous. Elections in North Korea have more legitimacy.

You won't be surprised to hear that I abstain.

Because sockpuppets.

Sockpuppets can write as well as click a vote button.

More vote rigging shenanigans.

don't you see?  anything that writes something other than the OP's opinion is a sockpuppet ... with no poll he can delete any "sockpuppet" comments   >:(

I'm still for rings

Well you posted in NXT forum so I thought I'd come over and have a go...
Probably don't understand your history well enough
But if I have it right - this is about cryptography & rings...

you could use ARC or a variation of it

ARC = its part of a RING
Its simple e.g. 'A RING COIN' idk but I'm sure you can fit it...
or Advanced Ring Cryptography/Coin etc
Technology (everyone has heard of the fictional ARC Reactor by now lol)

anyway hope this helps with the debate and good luck...

BTW I like boolberry, its unique and memorable like 'coke', 'google' etc.... although autocorrect keeps turning it into bilberry (which are yummy)

Boolberry (BBR) has served as our coin name for short while now. But as we grow as a community, we have come to an important stage of development where a rebrand is needed in order to progress as needed.

Why? Where is the need? Can you elaborate please?

It's never good to rebrand something if there isn't a very good reason for it. I meet a lot companies that did exactly that.. created a new name just for the shake of haveing a new name because it's then so appealing. They created confusion and cost and a few of them even changed back to the old name after they figured out that it was a bad move.
It's a marketing missconception.

Boolberry is an already known and good enough name for a crypto.

If you really want or have to replace it than I suggest to collect some good suggestions from the community. I am sure the one or the other has a good name and then place a fair vote. The only way you can build confidence in something.

Boolberry is an already known and good enough name for a crypto.
This. IMHO, the new name doesn't really matter, it's the name change itself that is the problem. It gives the message "we're not sure what we're doing, maybe we'll change the name again next week, for the great joy of exchanges and other related services." What a way to give long-term confidence to an alternative money.

Boolberry is not a perfect name. However, any new name would face the same risk "this isn't good enough, we need to rebrand." We've had just enough time to spread the good name of Boolberry, and now we'd have to start all over again for nothing.

Asking someone if they except boolex will probably only get you a smackeroonie https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/smackeroonies   :D

OK Seriously now what's going on with these Sponboolies ?

Bool is short for Boolean. It is a programming and logic term.

Other brainstorming ideas.

Boolt or Bolt (security and anonymity, also like lightning bolts or Usain Bolt)

Boollion (computer bullion)

Boolring

Boolseye

Booloid

Rubools or Robools

Boogle

Yaboo

7008

Boollion (computer bullion)  is the best one by far  *(add that to your pipe and smoke it poll)

Rune is like a DND nerd's wetdream.  It's just bad....

Rune will Ruin the name even worse.

Also there is nothing wrong with just the initials BBR. It's kinda cool actually
