The increased size of a 5oz coin allowed for a new added design on the back (hologram superimposed for look).  Another addition to this coin will be that it is being minted in proof-like quality.  Due to this, the coins will ship to me individually packaged instead of in rolls, so they should be free from scratches.

These coins are similar to physical bitcoins you see from Casascius and others.  I'll highlight a few of the major differences. 

First of it's kind!  Coins are tied to NastyFans seats and not preloaded with BTC.  By not preloading these coins with BTC, they are not only cheaper to purchase than their competitors, but the potential is there for the BTC address engraved on the coin to continue rising forever with regular NastyFans BTC distributions, as opposed to being a fixed amount as with similar physical Bitcoin options.  It's like having a Bitcoin miner with no costs or effort to maintain.

No more printed keys!  These keys are engraved, and forever attached to the coin.  A tamper evident hologram is placed over the private key to help alleviate security concerns.

No more firstbits!  Your entire public key is engraved on the coin, eliminating any uncertainty that may exist about your coin's public address.

Sequential vanity Bitcoin addresses!  Know exactly what coin number you hold by the public address.  Each coin begins with 1Nasty and is sequentially numbered with the following two characters. 

Limited production batch!  Only 100 coins produced.  Being tied to seats instead of BTC also makes these coins extremely limited, as there are a limited # of NastyFans seats.

Og, what does this mean?

Each coin has 5 NastyFans seats attached to it that earn weekly distributions to the coin's address.  Once the coin is released, the $400 minting fee will require you to use 5 of your own seats, or buy 5 seats when you purchase the coin.  Pre-orders will receive the 5 seats for free.

Ah, ok, so basically a "seat" is a share in your mining farm?

Not really.  It's a little bigger than that.  A seat is a membership to NastyFans.  In addition to voting rights, each seat receives weekly distributions of donations received by NastyFans.  While NastyMining does donate all their mining proceeds, NastyFans also receives donations from other sources.  For example, 50% of sales from the 1oz coins and 50% of sales (excluding pre-orders) of the 5oz coins are also being donated to NastyFans.  We run NastyPool which is about to introduce PPS payouts for P2Pool mining.  Hopefully that begins generating donations for NastyFans as well.  There are a few other products we sell (1g silver coins & T-shirts coming soon) that generate donations and we have plans to eventually offer services like automated escrow as well as endorsing a dice style site for additional donation sources.  You can also keep track of NastyFans/NastyPool/NastyMining by checking out our NastyFans iOS App.

I try to obtain most every physical crypto coin out there (unless the coin has a large Bitcoin stored value, which becomes too pricey to me) but the $400 price and large medallion size has me holding off.  It feels less like a coin, and more like a Olympic Silver medal.   

I have no doubt the coin itself will be attractive though.

I'll commit to one, if you can keep the price the same, but only mint 10 coins.  I dont need the 5 seats or t shirt if it helps defray any added costs of having fewer coins made.

The coins come with the 5 seats attached to them, that is how they receive payments.  There is no way to buy a coin without the 5 seats.  The t-shirts were fairly cheap to produce and are a free gift for ordering, there is no additional cost attached.

There will be 100 coins minted, I am just limiting the pre-sale to 20 coins.  The other 80 will be sold at the same price, only without the free extras (1oz coin, shirt, seats).

I have 3 members who have told me they are waiting for us to get closer to the 20 mark before ordering, I imagine there are others as well, so I don't want to limit the pre-orders any further.

On a side note with those lame scammers though...   who, if anyone, falls for that? I'm still awaiting a final invoice from the mint.  There were a few things I wanted clarified, which I believe held up the process.  Namely, that I could take possession of the dies once the minting run has completed and a written guarantee that the dimensions would be perfect for the hologram and public key cutouts.

I've been trying to get confirmation from the mint about the specific sizing details to ensure that there will be no surprises.  Today they gave me a new (higher) quote.  I guess expecting that the design dimensions not be altered carries an additional fee...  Anyway, I have jumped through all the hoops, provided everything that has been asked, and now I wait.  I don't see why this order can't be finalized and paid for tomorrow, but it is out of my hands at the moment.  For now, I wait for that final invoice.  I still have 1 pre-order package left if anyone is interested.

Well, I have bad news (infuriating actually)...  I reached out to the mint to see why I haven't received these coins yet.  The response I got back was shocking.  They told me that the delay is due to not "finding an engraver who can accomplish the design."  So it appears that not only have they not completed the coins yet, they haven't even started the dies for them yet!  This is a mint that I thought was reputable and I've used them for all 3 of the previous coins I have had minted as well as having placed ~ $40,000 worth of orders from them.  I don't understand why I had to contact them for an update, only to learn they have done nothing.  I am beyond angry at their lack of professionalism, communication, and competence.

They did send me this render, and said they could go forward with the minting process if I was ok with the design looking "garbled."  I really don't know what to say.

Obviously "garbled" isn't acceptable, so I am hoping to either A) receive a full refund so I can go with another mint, or B) get them to immediately find a sculptor able to create the dies in the quality we paid for.  The other options would be to accept their warning of a "garbled" design and approve this render for minting or to go back to square 1 and pay a graphic artist to redo the rear design.  Absolutely disgusting how some people can get away with doing business...

I am open to feedback or suggestions at this point.

Holy #!}?}!% that sucks!  How the hell can they take the money and just sit on their hands like that, communicating nothing?  I'm sorry to hear, that is just ridiculous.

I have to say that render is not very reassuring, and I'd expect better, especially for that kind of money.  Hopefully they do come back with something better to at least try to salvage some of their reputation.

The lettering looks illegible so I wouldn't suggest accepting it.  Considering how big the coin is, the mint should have plenty of real estate to make the lettering readable.

I'm personally in favor of a new nice clean design, as long as its not going to hold you up much.  I'm not in love with just the repetitive words on the reverse.

But either way, I'm still in for one coin and will support whatever decision is made.   Thanks for the heads-up.

I share halo's opinion here

The 'centre ring' of the nasty logos looks strange only being part complete and also out of line. The pattern of a series of rings each getting smaller, but with the same number of logos and lined up with the other rings logos, forming a complete ring should be maintained, if that is the design.

If the design of the back gets changed, I'd probably want a coin. And that kinda sucks since I would miss out on that pre-order bundle.

This might sound odd, but is it possible to laser etch the design onto the coins?

I don't think that is a realistic solution. I've already gotten a couple new designs made, but there are a few specific requirements that need to be met with a new design. I don't want to rush it and make a mistake, but I will try to move very quickly on this.



I didn't realize folks didn't like the back design.  I guess this could end up being a good thing...  I've seen 2 drafts of the new back design already.  It's going in a different creative direction.  The original idea was to have the logo pattern go from the hologram to on the coin, but I think it didn't execute as well as it could have.  The new design will be made up of larger elements as well as trying to take advantage of some new ideas that I think will make the end result much cleaner looking.

I share the sentiment on the disgusting part, that mint could very well receive some bad press if they don't take this more serious.

That being said, I do have faith in OgNasty - as far as things are in his control that is.

Sorry Og...didn't mean for it to sound negative.  I only want to help provide a solution.

I want the coin either way, but I found the reverse to be too busy.  The lettering was unnecessarily small.  To monkeynuts point, the bottom ring closest to the holo was unbalanced, since it didn't have a top half.  So if you were to keep the design, I'd definitely remove that 4th ring at minimum.

I would look forward to a newer, cleaner, less repetitive design.  You do risk upsetting some people who made deposits, or you may gain new people who prefer the new design.  

But at least you don't have to deal with demanding money back from the mint, worrying if they could handle the tiny lettering, nor worry if a new mint can do better.

I thought the first version of the new design looked dope, especially with a mirrored proof finish as the background from the letters to NASTY. I like both new designs though, but honestly I don't have a stake in this game so my vote doesn't count. It's on my Want List though so I will get one eventually.  8)

I don't love the top half, but the bottom half is pretty nice.  Reminds me a little of the Casascius hologram with different alternating sections.   Out of the two pictures, I prefer the 1st one over the 2nd.

I like the idea behind the coin and am thinking about buying one (not right now but in the foreseeable future). I k ow I don't have much say and that the design has already been sent off but I just wanted to say that I personally like the new revised rear design over the original.

Nope, you can still pre-order.  I believe right now though there are no "goodie packages" left (first 20 pre-orders), but you will still get 5 nastyfans seats tied to the coin ( roughly 0.1BTC value).  Once the coin starts shipping you'd have to buy those seats first on your own.

Wow that looks like a really nice coin :).

That is the engraver.  This picture was taken as it was engraving the keys on the coin.  You can even see the first line of the private key being engraved.



In time.  I haven't received the plastic capsules yet, so that is what I'm currently waiting on.

The hologram space isn't small.  It is plenty large enough for it's purpose.  Using the same dimensions as the 1oz coin has a few benefits.  It saves on costs as new holograms don't have to be ordered.  It removed any uncertainty about the ease and ability to engrave the public key in the minimal real estate provided.  It left more space for a design on the coin.

The coins is from anno 1600 ish, silver was scarce at that time so they made these plates as a supplement, the plate have same value as 10 x silver coins.
The fascinating thing is that there is no funny fiat business going on here, the plate represented its value in copper.

However, for cliff notes, I'm paraphrasing something I wrote in a different thread for NastyKeno, but here's my take on what a "seat" is. 

Think of it this way.  You could use the term "fund" if you want to compare it to a traditional fiat-type investment (with one distinction I'll outline below).

1 seat = 1 share in the "fund"

There's 30,000 possible active seats (shares) available in total in the "fund".

If the fund is able to raise 30,000 Satoshi, each seat would get a dividend payback of 1 Satoshi.

The fund attempts to grow it's total BTC holdings by several means.  Currently the main sources of income are sales from physical silver cold-wallet type storage coins (i.e. this 5oz round), and mining donations.  Several people, myself included, run miners which donate some or all mining proceeds to the fund, which are then distributed as donation payouts to all seats.    There are other things being developed which, over time, hope to increase the fund's income significantly, so that your eventual distributions are greater than what you put into it.  By doing that, it should in theory increase the value of the seat you purchased, as well as the amount of dividend returns.

The main difference here is that unlike many of the other "investments" you see around, the fund does not hold onto the BTC it takes in, rather each week a distribution is made to all seat holders for whatever BTC are made during the past week.  This prevents a lot of potential issues other funds see, such as hacked or stolen hot wallets with all proceeds - no one holder has the main stash of BTC funds so it cannot simply be run off with by one person (or a group) thus leaving all the investors with a total loss of investment, etc."

Hopefully that helps answer it a little better for you.

I should correct this.  25% of BTC raised is distributed to NastyMining for future equipment purchases.  So NastyFans would have to raise 40,000 satoshis in order for each seat to receive 1 satoshi.

So here's a possibly dumb question. Are the 30k shares already "purchased", and if not, do the ones not purchased (yet) accumulate BTC?

Or is there an "Active" number of shares in existence so far you can share? I get the concept now, I just don't get how the distribution works in terms of how many seats are purchased.

Final question. Once I get this coin, can I buy more seats and "point" it to this coins address, thereby making it a "six-seat" coin etc etc? (I know i can send more BTC to it myself, but just curious about that aspect - I did notice "seats" are not cheap (imo), so I was happy to see this coin is already going to pay for itself pretty fast.. :)

The 30k seats were all in circulation as of October of 2014.  Members that disappear and are placed on probation or members that do not list a btc address are not included in the active seat count.  On the Nasty thread (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=86854.msg954234#msg954234) we have the below image that updates with the current number of seats participating in the distributions as well as lots of other automatically updating statistics.

There is nothing stopping you from buying as many seats as you want and pointing their distributions to your coin.  You could even just send BTC to the coin directly.  If you look at the NastyFans Minted Seat Analyzer's Top 10 (http://analyzer.nastyfans.org/?page=top10), you can see that there are folks with 1 seat coins who have more than 1 BTC on them.

I own 5 of the minted 1oz rounds, but I also own 299 additional online seats.  4 of the coins I funded with 0.1BTC on my own.  The first coin in the list (3Jpa) however, was not funded with anything extra - I only have the donation from all my seats pointed there (the 1 seat tied to that particular round and the 299 online ones).  The majority of those seats - 275 total - were purchased in April, so it's accumulated that balance in about 2 months, just to give you an idea of what it's been like recently.

I'm thinking seeing the seat price at 0.5 BTC you were mistaking the cost for a 1 oz. Silver Minted Seat coin for the price of a single (digital) NastyFans seat.

NastyFans is truly cool to be a part of though. Some good, open-minded people and I think the seats are a relatively stable long-term investment, in my opinion.

Edit: Plus NastyMining/NastyFans is one of the only mining & investment organizations that has been around for years in the Bitcoin world and never scammed or stolen from users. So I always feel my money is safe if I have it invested in NastyFans seats.

I should also let everyone know. I have a few of the 1oz 1 seat coins. Just had 2 graded that have been given MS69 by ANACS .... So the quality of mint and assembly is also there

TookDk told me ANACS is working to release a population list for all tokens soon. I'm very interested to see what the best grades are for each physical Bitcoin and Liberty Dollar that's been graded. No doubt your 1 oz. seats will be in the top grades for that coin.

I think this is a cool concept, but a bit of a circlejerk, who buys the gear if not owners of seats, only to get1/30000th of 75% of the margin as "cashback" of sorts?

The 25% goes toward buying mining equipment that is operated free of charge to provide weekly distributions. Coin sales make up a small % of the distributions. If you take a look at the stats, you can see more than 500 BTC has been distributed to seats already, most of which was mined coins.

Minted seats are a amazing and unique concept. A miner in your pocket. Whether current nastyfans members or non-member Bitcoin/silver enthusiasts purchase them is irrelevant. The minted seats have merit on their own.

The fact that proceeds from minted seat sales are donated to nastyfans is a nice bonus for the fanclub and is something that me and all other nastyfans members very much appreciate.

I am very curious about this.  We need to talk.  I'd love to get an example form filled out so that people can easily print them and fill in their shipping information to have their coins sent it.  I think it would be great if everyone used the same information with ANACS as I know I've seen some different naming formats on graded Casascius coins.  I'd also like to go through the process myself to see if I can offer to do this on behalf of buyers in the future, or perhaps even offer a one-time group grading option for these pre-orders?

I plan to send my coins off to PCGS for grading soon as they arrive.

Agreed.  I think PCGS might grade them, but I don't think they'd really know much about them.  They currently do not list Bitcoin-related items on their "tokens and metals" page, which is what these would be classified under - http://www.pcgs.com/tokensandmedals/

ANACS would be the more appropriate choice for getting these done, just like all the other ones out there (Cas, Lealana, etc).  They seem to have their stuff together, and they supposedly are even working on proper population reports for these, which would be extremely interesting to see.

However, looking through their pages, it seems their limit for tokens is 40.6mm, which I think this round is larger than, correct?  I do believe they certify the US hockey pucks as well, so they should have holders that can handle them.

The good news is that if you're going to do the grading, you wouldn't have to wait for the capsules... :)

If you want any help with this let me know, up to and including doing any submissions.

Interesting about their limit.  These tokens are 63.5mm, so I will need to discuss this with ANACS.  I have been in communication with them previously to give them information on the 1oz tokens, so I will reach out to my contact to make sure everything is good with the 5oz version.

A good point about not having to wait for the capsules.  I don't have flips, so I would most likely wrap them well in foam and secure them in plastic bags.  I'll go ahead and let this idea float around for a while, and if anyone is interested, I will submit some for grading next Monday.

I received a response from the mint saying that they had run out of stock on the capsules and have ordered more.  Don't get me started on why they didn't have them on hand since I paid for them more than 3 months ago...  In any event, they have at least acknowledged the oversight and assured that they have been ordered, so that is something...

I'm interested, however I'm a noob when it comes to this physical coin stuff, but trying to learn fast - What exactly do I get out of that, I mean I understand it's graded but do they put some sticker on it and give me some paper or something? (Sorry, can't google around right now, sorta busy)!  :(

I've sent a couple coins to ANACS.  In my experience, it takes about 2 weeks to get them back.  Considering I could send them off Monday (or sooner), and it could be 2 weeks before the capsules come anyway for all we know, time shouldn't be a big concern.  As far as what you get out of it, you just get it graded and it will come in an ANACS slab instead of a regular airtite.  It doesn't add any extra protection, but if you got an amazing grade it might increase it's value.

Reading their info says probably not.  But if they grade the U.S. 5oz coins as shown in the pic above, they should.  These are the same size so the precedent does exist.  Let's wait and see with crossed fingers.

While they don't grade 5oz "coins" it does appear they grade "tokens" which is what this coin would be considered.  I've emailed them for clarity, but I think I'll go ahead and give them a call this morning to get an official answer.  I think my 1NASTY1FAN....addressed coin deserves a grading.  ;D

Bad news...  ANACS will not grade these coins because they are too thick for their holders.  They can only grade 5oz coins that are 3" in size, and this one is 2.5" which makes it thicker than their case can hold.  Very disappointing... 

So much for that idea.  Anything else I can do to whip you into a frenzy while we wait for the plastic capsules to arrive?

Nope, no typo.  The smaller diameter makes it a thicker coin.  Too thick for their cases.

EDIT: Seems like US Minted coins go up in thickness as the diameter increases?... I guess I'm showing my noob nature to physical coins again.

It's all about volume.  Think about play-doh.  If you put a ball of it in your hand and then start compressing it, it will flatten out but become wider the thinner it gets, as the material isn't being removed, just re-shaped.  No difference when a coin is pressed, just you're dealing with metal instead.

I thought there was some general rule that the smaller diameter will always increase the thickness of the coin, which seemed backwards... but makes sense when you are dealing with a specific amount of material.  :)

It was the saddest day ever, mail man came and no coins.  Tracking shows them still on the way, so I am guessing Monday for me.  I was so excited been waiting all day for them, oh well 2 more days.

So I got mine today. Love it. My only (small, literally) problem was that I have a hard time reading the key/address on the coin. (Yes I probably need glasses)..

Try angling it differently in the light.  The address will appear as clear as day in the right lighting.

The coins do go in order, but probably not how you envisioned.  Remember there were 500 of the 1oz coins, so they are numbered according to a sequence.  For example, they go: 1NASTY11, 1NASTY12, 1NASTY13...  You have 1NASTY1D it appears, which is coin #13 in the series, so your address according to analyzer.nastyfans.org is: 1NASTY1DomxHgZDvhQWjF8FSZr41ytVWiv (http://analyzer.nastyfans.org/?address=1NASTY1DomxHgZDvhQWjF8FSZr41ytVWiv)

The first distributions have gone out to the coins already, which is why you saw a few cents on it.  Blockexplorer.com isn't updating at the moment, so the analyzer isn't showing a balance yet.

Man, this coin looks amazing. I wish I had the BTC to buy one of them.

What country if you don't mind me asking?  Did the package appear tampered with, as though it had been opened and re-packaged?  Would be nice to know which countries charged VAT vs which ones they slipped through on.  I listed them as commercial engraving samples, which usually find their way through customs without any issues with the 1oz coins, but perhaps 5oz was a bit heavy for that...

The Dutch customs are very random when it comes to checking packages. The allowed import value over here is around 21 euro and they randomly select packages and see if it follows the rules. If not, you gotta pay up. For example; I've had three medium/high-range phones delivered from China without a problem, but I've had to pay VAT for a 25 euro watch.

Package was not tampered with, they just stuck an additional paper on the packaging :)

They took the total package value (US$115) and used that to calculate VAT + 12 EUR in administrative costs :)

It is a good thing they were declared only as the silver value then.   ;)

It is a 5 seat coin.  You can't add more seats to it.  You could direct your online seat to your coin by adding the public address on the coin to your online account.  You can copy your public address from anazlyer.nastyfans.org (http://analyzer.nastyfans.org) to make sure you get it correct.

It looks like you removed the airtites to put them in that frame.  Be careful.  Over time if those frames aren't air-tight you may see some discoloration of the coins.

Not sure if the frame is airtight. I'll put it back into the airtite again then... Let's see if it will still fit in the frame with the airtite.

Ah, I use those as well. They are great and should be airtight, but putting them in an airtite isn't a bad idea. The coin should fit just fine as the plastic/rubber/whatever layers are very flexible as proven by this picture.

Unfortunately, these aren't airtight - you can easily blow into the edges and the frame will get "condensated" by your breath. I decided to put all my silver coins into an airtite and back into the frame again. They still fit perfectly and the 5oz big boy looks even bigger now ;)

No. If you have a Minted Seat linked to your account you never have to do anything. Even if you don’t, your account wouldn’t be killed off after a month. That’s obviously nonsense. Only accounts that don’t own any seats are closed, as if you don’t own seats, your account isn’t active and shouldn’t be counted as such. I’ve seen nonnakip help users access their accounts after more than 5 years without logging in or owning any Minted Seats.

You're welcome.  It's great to get some positive feedback.  Reaching a positive ROI is a pretty amazing accomplishment and one I was told countless times it was impossible and would never happen.  Doing so in under a decade is unheard of and I feel like the club has never been in a better position for growth.  Congrats to all the owners of these coins who held through the FUD and it isn't too late to join the club.  The best days are ahead as we continue to accomplish the impossible.

This seems to be a fan favorite, and if you haven’t gotten your hands on one of these “hockey pucks” yet, there’s no better time then the present. I actually think this is pretty cool although I don't think I've ever mentioned it.  Boosie Badazz has over a million followers on Twitter (@BOOSIEOFFICIAL (https://twitter.com/BOOSIEOFFICIAL)) and is seen quite frequently on social media.  He's likely the most popular NastyFan (more Twitter followers than Charlie Lee).  So if you're one of those guys who needs a celebrity to tell you to buy something, talk to Boosie about his NastyFans seats and then grab yourself some at https://nastyfans.org/mint

According to the analyzer by Naypalm (https://analyzer.nastyfans.org/) it appears that there are only 16 of these "hockey pucks" left.  I'd love to see them sell out and start hitting the secondary market.  These are the largest coins I've done that were capable of having a proof-like finish so if you are a fan of shiny silver, the 2oz and 5oz minted seats are the ones you should have your eye on.  While these are too large to be graded by companies that have done grading in the past, I'm sure if it were possible you'd find that these receive some of the highest grades available.  Absolutely beautiful coins.

Yes, that is correct. The prices are shown in the shop and the items in the shop are priced in USD but shown in BTC, so the prices do reflect exchange rate changes with Bitcoin. The prices are rounded to the nearest 0.000X BTC so they aren’t changing minute by minute, but I do assure you that they do in fact change with exchange rate movements and are automatically updated.

Still have around a dozen or so of these bad boys left.  These are the largest "proof-like" coins I've made and they shine real nice.  :)

I've also just ordered a new phone, so hopefully I'll be able to capture some decent photos of these coins in the near future.  Don't sleep on these beauties.  Once they're gone, they're going to be very difficult to find on the secondary market as people don't let them out of their collections often...
