Start by visiting Blockchain and setting up your wallet. Once that is done, go visit some faucets so you can learn how Bitcoin and transactions work. After that, there is no limit to what you can do if you have the funds and the intellect to do it.

Good luck to you, and watch out for scammers, they are everywhere in this forum.

The best way to learn is by doing mining, but don't invest in any hardware as it is unlikely to ROI. Just use whatever GPU or CPU you have just for "testing". Don't test for long as you would break your computer and you are wasting electricity..

Remember that bitcoin is a payment system. It is not a get rich quick thing, so don't listen to any offers of wealth. They are scams. if you really want to use bitcoin then:

1. Choose an exchange in your home country. Some exchanges are not trustworthy.

2. Set up a wallet on your computer. I would not use any online wallet for more than $100 worth of bitcoin.

3. Fund your account and be prepared to give your identity. You may link your bank account or use a USPS money order. Do not use any system that has chargeback options, such as PayPal.

4. After purchasing at the exchange, move the bitcoin you bought to your wallet. Unless you have sole control of your private keys, you do not have bitcoin.

5. It is very important that you now make several copies of your wallet.dat file. Store them safely, because if you lose this file your bitcoins are gone forever. No exceptions.

At this point you have coins, you can get more when you want, and you can restore them if your computer dies. When you shop online you will notice that the transactions are done in minutes, you provide no information that allows an attacker to get more of your coins, and you are only paying a few pennies to send money anywhere.

6. Cut up your credit cards!

Well, I wouldn't recommend mining cause none seems to be profitable now..

Joining bitcointalk is the best way to start learning about bitcoin lol, and so you are on the right track.
First you need to choose a bitcoin wallet, learn the basics about receiving and sending bitcoin, and learn to keep your bitcoin safe. You can explore ways to buy and earn bitcoin afterwards.

If you prefer watching videos to reading paragraphs, you can try the Khan Academy's videos.

Read some manual about bitcoin and see the ultimate documentary about bitcoin. If you want to earn something, try to get some mBTC in a Faucet, or go in a signature campaign  ;)

The first thing you should do is reading about bitcoin to get some general knowledge. Then decide if you will invest or not.

Try joining a signature campaign! There are a couple campaigns that are still looking for le newbies: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=615953.0 for more information.

While you're still learning about bitcoins, faucets are a good way to start, not for the profit aspect so much as the experience. I'm still a relatively new member, and the community here is really great.

First you should bookmark http://www.coindesk.com/information/bitcoin-glossary/ and https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=126798.0 so that you can re-visit the pages and check the meaning of some bitcoin terms like "confirmation", "private key" in the future.

You should start reading the guides you found in this thread. It won't be easy to understand bitcoin, and so don't get frustrated when you are lost in the articles. Feel free to ask your questions here or on reddit when you need help.
