Microsoft just realized the power of open source
Microsoft is planning to open source the full server-side .NET core stack and to take that open-sourced .NET core to Linux and Mac OS X, alongside Windows.............

M$ wants to take .net over to linux and they know it takes too long and there is no profit there. So they made it open-source, and they will fork it when it matures.
