Now that these private keys are compromised, I sure hope nobody decides to import them, biggest mistake ever.

I haven't read up on the address generation protocol, but here's a question...

Would it be possible to have a dedicated machine for generating addresses, and is it possible to be lucky and generate an existing address with actual balance? ;D

OR

just use vanitygen, and make addresses with the custom at the beginning so it is readable.

Plus its a trusted program, not some new thing.

We've had this discussion thousands of times on the forum. Nothing prevents it, it would just take you billions of years, with all the computers on EARTH bruteforcing.

I'm not talking about bruteforcing addresses, nor generating by a pattern. I'm just talking about generating random addresses as fast as possible.
But I believe the answer would be the same...

And here's a nice infographic I found on your link ;D

Given the amount ofpossible addresses that you can have to hold BTC burning up 50k is a small amount and having 5 public address not too bad lol they will be on the list off address like qwerty12345 passphrase lol

Yes you can have a dedicated machine for generating addresses.

But don't expect get one already generated by someone else in your lifetime

I think you have about the same odds of generating an address of winning the powerball 5 days in a row then on 6th day buying your ticket and being struck by lightning

7 times within that day, and this is much more likely than getting a used key.

Blockchain.info doesn't show any activity associated with that address.

Oh, I see 4Ksat there now.  Lets see who gets it first :)

EDIT: Lol my wallet won't send less than 5460 satoshis...

Well, I could start up bitcoind and wait 2 days for the blockchain to sync and then import the key and send the raw transaction over RPC but it seems a whole lotta work for 4K satoshis.  I did try the import in multibit and 5640 sats is the dust limit. :)

I think it still depends on your hardware.  But I admit I haven't fired up bitcoind in a few months.  Perhaps I should try the new version.

Keep in mind it's a release candidate and shouldn't be used if you don't want unstable software.
