I think it'll be a while before they go up. Last time they went up there was a lot of publicity for bitcoin and lots going on. 2014 has seen a gradual decline and some good big hacks and closures. I guess this might cause some people to lose faith / trust a bit.

THIS IS AN EXCELLENT IDEA, except for the fact that isn't there a seller involved? For example, if 1,000 people purchased bitcoins, regardless the amount, there's 1,000 sellers transferring the exact same amount, with the miners obtaining fees for the efforts. I honestly fail to see how this model would accomplish what you have in mind.

On the other hand, open up a rogue exchange, specifically designed to fluctuate the market from within, then you'll have a recipe for price increase.

i would say it was much easier to convince all bitcoin sellers to stop trying to sell below $300,

if you get everyone to put their sell orders at $450, there will simply be less coin on the sell walls, making it far far easier for the price to rise. i truly find it funny when people dont realise that if they have coins on the exchange, it is there own actions causing a price drop. and the simple solution is a consensus that no bitcoin should be sold below $300, making every bitcoin worth atleast $300.

but then again trying to break through the natural panic emotions of naive traders, and get them to go against their natural mindsets is the problem

People are willing to sell for less. It is their right in an open market.

yes, which is why i dont see an issue in regards to moving orders to where prices are preferential.. rather than let the naive traders panic and sell at whatever low price the buy players are dropping too..

i am not a naive trader by a long shot. i gave up trading my large hoards purely because i did, as you have seen the falseness of exchange trades.. i do not even bother checking the exchange values unless i see the panicky posts people write and then see what they are panicking about.

for anyone wanting instant cash.. sell on localbitcoins / otc's.. and for those investing. put their sell prices at higher preferencial prices. and realise the most easiest fact about trading.

you dont lose unless you sell at a loss.

The twins collected 100k coins after bitcoin exchange rate crashed 90% during 2011, and this time there will be far more people than them waiting to get cheap coins, but how cheap is cheap is the question, you can look at the mining cost to get a rough estimation. I think $300 coin is not enough to cover the mining cost currently, but market can be irrational for much longer than you can imagine

If you genuinely want Bitcoin to go up again based on solid fundamentals, then support the use of the blockchain for data storage and messaging.  It is the best inherent use for Bitcoin that we have.

Don't sell at a loss, esp if you bought in recent times. Also, if you bought a while ago there's no point in selling now at the near bottom unless you're hurting for fiat now. You knew the spiel about not ... yada yada yada and being able to chill and live w/ your choices until the market turned. That said, if you know the market is gonna crap, then go ahead and contribute more to it and sell in the hopes of copping more in a short time. Be careful tho. ;)

If the merchants who are accepting bitcoin payment don't dump their bitcoin for fiat right away at the market price or below market price, I think bitcoin will be stable a little bit. If they want to sell the bitcoin, they shoud at least have a little faith in it  until the price reach the expect level.

Dont you realize you talk about thousand of trader out there? Every people have different mind. Some people only want fast cash and some people want profit from trading. How you will make them follow your words? That impossible. We only can watch they spend their own money. We cant do anything

Everyone that owns BTC is watching the price, knows it's been down for a while and may be enticed to buy some if we saw a quick burst. If there's a quick jump in the price people may feel they're going to "miss out on the run up" if they don't busy some coin immediately. That said, you need a lot more volume than this thread can produce...

Don't know if it's a good moment to buy at this moment.
The best is to keep what you have, i think, and see what's going on the next few months.

if your paper loss is small, sell at a loss.  if you bought really high, like around 600 - 1000, then you have no choice but to keep holding cos you're a bag holder.

Just like with every investment, i just passively buy at the end of the month regardless of price.
I did add a few extra bucks to the purchase pool due to the current low price/end of year/Santa money  ;D

I wonder how that will turn out seems like an interesting enough speculation strategy
Dollar cost average a fixed amount each month starting in January 2015 and see how it goes till December 2015

Never really thought about blogging about it, but it might be a cool idea to check back here around Xmas 2015. See if it was worth a steady monthly buying plan or would it have been more cost effective to buy one lump amount in late Dec.

I believe in the technology and where it will go in the future ^Grin^

I think if people have a genuine desire for the price to rise, then need to do less hoarding and more transactions.
What makes something valuable is its usability.
Im trying to make at least 1 purchase with btc every week now.

Definitely supporting local businesses that accept btc, and i call and emailed all companies (who currently dont accept) asking them to accept btc in the future.

Seriously though, btc has a lot going for it.  As long as people are spending it then it will have power and value.  But the thing is that bitcoin in not as anonymous as people really like or want.  So when that population of the market goes to buy or otherwise accumulate virtual currency that IS anonymous AND enough people do that... then btc will be seen as the trash it is (well compared to anonymous currency)

Or as they say... one man's trash is another man's treasure (sorry for the macho stuff ladies)

We can't do nothing, unless the lucky early investors that are super rich off Bitcoin want to do something, but im afraid they are too busy enjoying their private resorts and don't give a shit anymore.

Not sure about that. They will try to accumulate over a long period so as not to move the price, but that doesn't mean they will actively suppress the price. That could end up hurting their large/potentially long term position quite badly.

I don't think many people in this thread understand how the open market works.

Firstly, nobody is going to listen to someone on a forum telling them to raise their sell orders.

Secondly, people who really want to sell their coins will just push the price even lower.

Exactly, unless each and every trader agrees to sell above a specified price, which is impossible
We need to go to an exchange with less volume and pump in BTC at a higher price. Maybe that can help, but I don't really knwo

It is very funny to see how self-assigned supporters of a totally free trade system like bitcoin (no regulations, no state, freedom to act) are calling desperately for collective rules and behavior denying the exact principles of freedom on which the system they pretend to support is built !

In order to make it happen, you need to convince the big whales. A group of small fish won't be able to make any difference. Hardly that will make any dent on the price market. And who knows what the whales are thinking at the moment. I believe there are far bigger conspiracy like fiat financial institutions banding together to make that happen.

well, bitcoin it's not like a pizza..you can say i want a pizza now and a pizza is out to your door. bitcoin is an industry, a complex market..i think you saw during last year the increase and decrease of bitcoin so..only god will help us

When you can buy up 50k Btc and your friends can buy the same and you have many of them friends, then maybe you can talk about raising the price. My 2015 prediction it will stick mid to high 2's then just before the summer it will raise to low to high 3's. In other words it aint going up anytime soon  >:(

Recently bitstamp is getting hack, that the terrible news that will make us as bitcoin trading losing it's faith against bitcoin.
The result : everyone dump it then bitcoin keep decreasing

Let's hope that this never happen again

Unless you have the $$$ then you can actually make a bump in the price. Tbh, it is very improbable for a small group of people to move even $10 in the current prices. What you're asking for is difficult to achieve, because you can't tell people what to do, and the fact that not all people have the $$$ to buy bitcoins.

The emphasis being on 'rich' guys and they will not be bumping the price to high unless they have millions to play with.

But they can cause a crash quite easily between them get people panicky and rebuy even more with their profits at the lower price.

I'm afraid there is very little the average trader can do to affect the Bitcoin price. Just time and world-wide acceptance will do that.

Lets give bitcoin a couple of years and lets see what happens.

There are many factor that can manipulate the price, for sole reason that we are stil in quite an early phase with bitcoin.
Those factors are;

-Large exchanges who can manipulate the price simply by keeping or dumping fees
-Large mining farm operators
-Wealthy individuals
-Eventualy early adopters who acted smart and are now bitcoin milionares and now belong to group 3

With further spread of bitcoin funds, it will be more and more harder for someone to manipulate the market, just give it a few years more.

I wish I thought "Heh, cool. Let's buy some!"... And then forget about it... Until I would've read "Bitcoin price $1000" at which moment I would've turned completely pale, frantically looking for the wallet with 100's of bitcoins in it...

Thats all an average joe can do unfortunately, just buy and hold and wait, unless you have a better plan thats all, oh and talk about bitcoin to clueless people.

well people tend to say that once price is rising its a bubble, once its hitting a new low, they say bitcoin is dying, either way, id say ill be waiting till half of the year to see where this will lead us

Some of us have hundreds of bitcoins and it is 99% or more of their wealth but they are not selling.

I treat my bitcoin like gold, must hold for 10 years before i use it even once.

Bitcoin prices definitely on the rise in the last 24 hours.  Up nearly 10% at times.  Pretty awesome to see.  I wish they'd stay over $500 that would be sweet.

Actually, it just needs to be adopted more widely and there needs to be more attainable with btc.   So for example the satoshi might be worth 1 dollar.  That would really be something.
