But you can always make it on your side by not betting in the same pattern :D True, they could possibly scam by that method, but it seems pretty suspicious. For example, why the need to press a button every time you want to verify the seed? Also, 999dice has since changed their system.... And replaced it with another flawed one. (See this thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=971447) They could easily look at another dice sites provably fair system (like just-dice) and copy their transparent system. I'm not accusing 999dice of anything, like you said, they might not be scamming at all, but it is fishy. There are no charts, no block explorer, just a page to log in and enter your details. Because of this, it's quite possible that the site is a phishing scam. They usually get taken down pretty quick but keep popping back up. I guess adwords coupons are still easy to get at a very good discount or people are using stolen cards to pay for clicks. Title: Re: [EDU] Bitcoin-related Scam Websites Post by: shdvb on April 22, 2015, 02:03:55 AM It has many of these kinds of scamming sites out there on google.when you sear'skrill/neteller for bitcoin or wmz/PM' these kind of exchanges,it always bumps up those sites.I used to test on a site called payexim and got scammed 0.03 BTC,they never paid me back some neteller or skrill. And their phone listed on sites can never be connected when you call.
So I sum up some experience that all these kinds of sites has a same feature is that they always advertings they got huge reserve on all virtual E-currencies like on skrill, neteller, webmoney, perfect money etc and with low exchange rates to lure people to get scammed. So beware. The scams like exchanges can only be predicted since they haven't crashed or taken money yet.

Title: Re: [EDU] Bitcoin-related Scam Websites Post by: Lorenzo on May 13, 2015, 10:25:51 PM Bitcoin-forums.net There was an earlier thread posted in the meta section about that site here: http://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=998187 It doesn't seem to be a scam/phishing site since nobody has reported their account being compromised from it yet although I've noticed that they use popunder ads which is kinda dishonest since they didn't create the content themselves. Perhaps labeling it as a possible scam might be a better idea. EDIT: It's also possible that the site is meant to be used as a proxy service for those who live in countries where Bitcointalk is banned. This site was such an example: http://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=930169 Title: Re: [EDU] Bitcoin-related Scam Websites Post by: Superhitech on May 14, 2015, 03:50:08 AM Yes, but signing in with a valid bitcointalk account doesn't work, so I don't think it's for a proxy service. Most likely phishing, but I could be wrong.

So it is not a mirror site for ISP ban evading. So it is probably a phishing site and/or for making money. As nothing works in it, we can conclude it is a phishing site. Title: Re: [EDU] Bitcoin-related Scam Websites Post by: Lorenzo on May 15, 2015, 12:52:05 AM Hmm... Didn't realize that.
I guess it could be a simple content mirror then, although it could just as easily be a phishing site. Without some kind of official statement from the site owner (or disabling of the login prompt), it's probably best to stay on the safe side I guess. The other site that I linked to in my previous post (Data321.net) was a content mirror for Chinese users, for example: if you visit the site and scroll to the bottom, you'll see this: Quote 本网站为比特币加速站点,只为方便中国用户搜索及查找相关答案,属于非营利网站,友情链接或者其他相关问题,请联系QQ:2450057300. which translates to Quote This website is Bitcoin accelerate site, only for the convenience of Chinese users to search and find relevant answers, a non-profit website, links or other related issues, please contact QQ: 2450057300. Mystery solved. all you had to do was scroll down. :-* Title: Re: [EDU] Bitcoin-related Scam Websites Post by: Muhammed Zakir on May 15, 2015, 04:27:19 AM Hmm... Didn't realize that. Mystery solved. all you had to do was scroll down. :-* Bitcoin-forums.net doesn't look like a simple content mirror. Google is stupid and has trouble differentiating bitcointalk.org from mirrors. That site is trying to exploit this in order to occasionally place above or near bitcointalk.org in search results, and then use this position to make money in various ways. It seems that currently they were paid to increase the click stats of some specific URLs, and they're doing this by putting some extra iframes in each page. Hmm... I always thought Google's search engine ranking algorithm penalized sites that have duplicate content. Strange to see that it isn't the case for Bitcointalk. I also regularly see Bitcointa.lk being placed higher in search results than this site too. Didn't notice the iframes until you pointed it out. Yes, very sneaky. I can see them in the code: Code: <iframe scrolling="no" frameborder="0" src="http://www.entekcms.com/" width="0" height="0"></iframe> Not sure how they would be able to profit from this though. ??? There also seems to be some extra JavaScript at the end for StatCounter too as well as something that looks Chinese. Not sure how they would be able to profit from this though. ??? for the aliexpress link: cookie stuffingTitle: Re: [EDU] Bitcoin-related Scam Websites Post by: Lorenzo on May 15, 2015, 09:33:12 AM Bitcoin-forums.net doesn't look like a simple content mirror... That could just be the site owner's attempts to monetize it. It could still be a content mirror, just one with ads. Anyway, if you think it's best to consider it a phishing site as a precautionary measure then I have no objections. Even if it isn't one, it definitely seems quite suspicious for it to even exist in the first place and without any way to tell whether or not login attempts are being logged, it's probably best to assume that it is a phishing site and stay clear. :) Title: Re: [EDU] Bitcoin-related Scam Websites Post by: Tomatocage on May 26, 2015, 05:54:06 PM Added:

http://www.badbitcoin.org/thebadlist/ I don't know who compiled it or what the requirements are for a site to be included though. For instance, I would have been hesitant to classify PBMining as a definite scam back when it was popular but it appears they listed it months before it went bust. why there are so many scammer in Bitcoin bussiness? The responses in this thread (http://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=660994) answer the question of why scammers scam in the first place. Bitcoin seems to attract online scammers because it's pseudonymous, instantaneous, much harder to trace when mixed, and doesn't support chargebacks. With Bitcoin, the responsibility of the trade is solely on the buyer and unlike fiat banking, there are no centralized entities that can team up with authorities to regulate Bitcoin transactions. Title: Re: [EDU] Bitcoin-related Scam Websites Post by: Quickseller on July 19, 2015, 08:09:14 PM You can probably add the scam site www.val1d.ru to the list. Someone created a thread advertising the site here (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1128293.0), and upon visiting it via tor, it appears there are very few members/topics/posts, most likely well under 50 total posts. However there are a number of users whose statistics show they have several hundred posts, while their post history only show ~8 posts.
A number of illegal things are being sold (this doesn't necessarily make it a scam, but still a good idea to avoid). There are threads advertising things like western union payments at ridiculous discounts under the amount claiming to be sent, which should obviously mean all will not end will with the buyer in one way or another (BTW, "verified" members are selling this). This has many of the same red flags that the scam site bitcoin-power.com has, although I am not sure if they are run by the same person.
