Title: Where to deposit GBP to get BTC by Sunday?
Post by: TingCoin on July 26, 2012, 04:18:09 PM
Hey,

I need some BTC by Sunday, Intersango is down and MtGox takes 1-3 BUSINESS days which would be a gamble.
How can I get fast BTC for my GBP that I will have by Sunday? Or should I just take the MtGox gamble?

EDIT: Also noticed MtGox is a Barclays bank. If I deposit the GBP from a Barclays bank, will the transfer be instant?

Cheers

Intersango doesn't appear down to me.
They state "UK/SEPA/SWIFT/Polish withdrawals will not be processed between July 26th and July 30th" - but that's not bitcoins.
You should be able to deposit GBP now and start trading in a few hours.

No mate, I've already made a deposit there and now my funds are stuck in limbo. Check their support page:

While we were previously under the impression that the problems we were having with Metro bank were due to a technical issue on their end (as this has happened before), we have been told that our account activity is being reviewed and that we must be patient during this process. We have faith that our contact at Metro bank will properly investigate the matter. They have indicated that they do not require information from us at this time. The resolution time we were given was around 1 week, however this is just an approximation.

We apologise for the inconvenience this has caused our userbase. We are doing everything we can to resolve the problem as fast as possible. In the future, we may not be able to accept payments quite as fast anymore to prevent fraud however we will work hard to decrease our resolution times for issues and make the experience of purchasing and selling bitcoins as easy for the UK as possible.

We understand that many people have called Metro bank and Metro has told them that there is no issue. This is entirely incorrect. We believe it in not intentional it is simply that their support staff assumes that if there is not an issue affecting all accounts or a huge number of accounts at the bank that there is not an issue with our account.

Need an alternative that can get my BitCoin to me on or before Sunday basically.

EDIT: Even if that means getting them off somebody on this site via a bank or Paypal transfer, I'd be down for that as long as they're a reputable person.

How much £ are you talking about?

Not crazy amounts, £25. Why?

I'm in the same boat.

I've made a small deposit to MtGox. It was done via faster payments, so they will have it by now. I don't see why they shouldn't be able to process it in tomorrows batch.

If there is any quicker way to get some coins (Below £50 worth) via a GBP faster payments transfer I'd be interested.

Didn;t notice that - their GBP deposit page doesn't indicate there may be a problem (not sure why they don't make it clear there before people go to deposit funds)

I could possibly send you some coins, but it would mean losing a bit of interest.

If no one else can help you, we could talk about it.

If you would be willing - That would be great! I only need around 4 BTC and would definitely be alright with paying you some interest for your time. Have you got any feedback from any previous transactions on here I can have a look at by any chance?

I've currently got 8 BTC that I would sell for transfer to an HSBC account. Also happy to buy small quantities of BTC while Intersango is between banks. I'm not trying to build a business, just to help a few people out.

Why trust me? The only thing I can offer is that I was the first person to buy an FPGA entirely with BTC (one of the first 4 X5000's).

VirWoX does GBP to SLL and SLL to BTC. You're looking at roughly 4-5% total fees if you've never traded with them, though.

Suppose I was to sign up to Second Life just to obtain SSL, is the purchase of SSL instant? And how instant would VirWoX be to turn my SSL in to BTC's? Considering this, if not might take a gamble and PM one of the posters in this thread :P

I have completed a number of loans on here, you can see them in my post history.

You seem to have a couple of offers; if you don't go through with them let me know.

Bitcoin Nordic accepts cash-by-mail (GBPs) for the purchase of bitcoins.  The are in Denmark:

Those in the UK don't have the benefit of a cash-deposit method like those in the U.S., Canada, India, Australia, Brazil, and Russia do:
[Update: You can deposit cash into Mt. Gox's account at any Barclays:

But in the UK you can purchase UKash vouchers.  Those can then be redeemed through a CashU account and used to purchase bitcoins from Bitcoin Nordic:

You might also want to place a buy order on the #bitcoin-otc marketplace:

 - http://bitcoin-otc.com/viewratings.php  - The #bitcoin-otc marketplace Web of Trust (WoT)

Also, you might see if there are any sellers in your area listed with LocalBitcoins:

There is a local trader that will sell bitcoins in amounts of at least 10 BTC for cash, in-person:

I've only deposited into SLL by credit card, but it is instantly. Basically VirWoX works like any exchange in that it matches you up with another order. If I did my math correctly, it currently takes 5.35GPB on VirWoX to obtain a BTC before fees.

An advantage to buying with SLL client and then into VirWoX, though, is you can deposit by credit card for only a 50 cent fee, and then the percentage it takes to convert SLL to BTC.

VirWoX seems a bit complicated to me, haha. From looking at the trade tables on that site, my feeble mind can't see what the trade rate of SLL per BTC is.

I've sent Scott a PM. - Saves me learning the ropes of a new exchange site, the sooner I get the coins the better :)

EDIT: On second look it doesn't seem too bad... - I'm considering using VirWoX now. Really I should probably wait untill I'm more "known" around here before trading with any members. Feel like I'm asking for it :P

I've already sent the funds through VirWoX mate, didn't intend to waste your time.

I'm now having another dilemma though... VirWoX doesn't allow you to trade in decimal. So I've got 3 BTC, and I'm 400 SLL short of buying that last coin - With no funds in my bank untill my next payday.

Now I'm after a loan of either a little bit of SLL or a Bitcoin, lol. If not I'll figure something out.

Thinking I should of gone through you now Scott, you seem genuine.

AAARRGH! lol

Credit Card through SLL client is instant, and then you deposit SLL into VirWoX instantly as well.

Yeah. I think that, even if it wasn't instant, being able to buy through credit card for only a 50 cent fee is a deal.

All sorted, now I'm just waiting for them to pay in to my Bitcoin wallet which shouldn't take long at all. I paid through Paypal, and it was literally instant. When I bought Linden dollars (Second Life currency) it was instant, as was my transfer from SLL to BTC. It does however take 1-2 business days to withdraw my BTC, which hopefully should be fine :).

The only problem with that exchange is the fact that you can't pay in decimal (as in, pay £5, 6, 7 GBP for your SLL, then when you buy BTC with SLL, 1, 2, 3 etc). I managed to get the extra couple pounds for the extra 400 SLL, so I've got my fourth bitcoin.

VirWoX is actually quite a great, fairly instant exchange site. The only thing I'm waiting for now is for them to pay my Bitcoin to my wallet.

Guys, thanks for all the suggestions, help, and even offers to trade with a noob.

Brilliant community here it seems. :)

Cheers everyone!
Peace and love

Glad to help, and my apologies for forgetting about the no decimals. I use SLL quite regularly, so that doesn't affect me usually. They're based in Germany, so the majority of their withdraws for BTC seem to be processed from around 4AMCST to 3PM CST, in my experience. The longest I had to wait for a withdraw was 12 hours, and that was an order placed at 8PM CST. :) Their customer service is also pretty top-notch. I have yet to wait more than a day for a response when I need one.

Well it's been about 24 hours, my BitCoin withdrawal still hasn't been processed. Bit worried they won't come through on time to be honest.

This is what they say about withdrawals:
Quote
What is the "manual step" required to process some withdrawals, and how long does it take?

Withdrawals to bank accounts are usually processed on the morning of the next business day. While most withdrawals to PayPal, NETELLER, Moneybookers, and Bitcoin accounts are processed instantly, we manually check some of them for security reasons. They will be processed within 48 hours. In any case, you will receive an email confirmation when the withdrawal has been processed.

Has anyone had withdrawals processed by VirWoX on Saturdays? The fact that you've never had a payment take longer than 12 hours to process, CecilNiosaki, and mine has already been around 24 hours worries me a little.

Damn I hope it comes through on time, lol. I hope they don't hold the funds for a month or something because they think I want to reject the PayPal payment. Then again surely they'd state that if they worked that way.

I feel like talking to customer support and explaining my situation - But I'd feel like I was pestering as I haven't waited the 48 hours and as a new member paying through PayPal (reversable method of payment) they might think I'm trying to blag them. So I'd probably be best not to?

What does the BTC-Talk community reckon I should do? :P

I'd assume, if you're new to SL, and then are also a new customer of theirs, they may wait a full 48 hours to wait for the Linden Lab risk API to give you a full okay (I'm not quite sure how that API works.) Otherwise, you can always contact their manager, and not support, and that seems to receive a good response if you're in a hurry.

Believe it or not I'm actually not new to SL - I've had an account there for a few years now (friend of mine used to study graphics design and she used to design clothes on there as sort of a hobby), I don't actively log in these days though. But yeah the account is a few years old.

I've sent an email to their Support address on the Contact Us page just now, how would I go about contacting the manager? Can't see any information on the site for him apart from his real name. Does he hang out on SL?

FYI, I just bought some coins on MtGox - I sent the transfer Wednesday evening and it showed early this morning.

Annoyingly, they asked for account verification when I tried to withdraw the BTC. I've uploaded the documents, now it's just a waiting game.

No, it was only a small amount, so I thought I would be fine.

Without thinking I had my VPN running (as I do 99% of the time anyway), so this may be why?

If anyone has insight into how long verification can take I would be interested to hear.

Heh, account verification to withdraw GBP would be fair enough. But for BTC? That's riduculous... It's not even a real currency technically, about as real as WoW gold.

I'll never be using MtGox, then!

And yeah, I have heared that if you're using a particular VPN, they will ask for ID regardless.
I think we all know why.

The verification process can take as long as two weeks, it depends on your luck :)

You got some kind of warning for using a VPN? Sorry to bother with my questions, but I find the issue intriguing.

If you log in to your MtGox account using Tor, they demand ID immediately because they assume you're using the Bitcoin to make illicit purchases.

...accept it as a fact. Where you heard that? What particular VPN? Please explain you post or get used to being ignored, http://pastebin.com/irj4Fyd5
If you log in to your MtGox account using Tor, they demand ID immediately because they assume you're using the Bitcoin to make illicit purchases.

Ok, I knew that "rumor", but we're not talking about tor here

Heh, account verification to withdraw GBP would be fair enough. But for BTC? That's riduculous... It's not even a real currency technically, about as real as WoW gold.

You call verification for BTC transactions as "riduculous" and then...

FYI, I just bought some coins on MtGox - I sent the transfer Wednesday evening and it showed early this morning.

Annoyingly, they asked for account verification when I tried to withdraw the BTC. I've uploaded the documents, now it's just a waiting game.
It was large BTC quantity? If you don't mind answering
No, it was only a small amount, so I thought I would be fine.

Without thinking I had my VPN running (as I do 99% of the time anyway), so this may be why?

If anyone has insight into how long verification can take I would be interested to hear.

The verification process can take as long as two weeks, it depends on your luck :)

You got some kind of warning for using a VPN? Sorry to bother with my questions, but I find the issue intriguing.
No warning, I am just assuming this could be the cause. I can't see any other reason.

I have asked them for some explanation.

VirWoX replied to my email to Support (sent at 5:21pm) at 7:11pm, less than 2 hours! - And have processed my BitCoin.
Awesome support, they've replaced Intersango for me :).

Thanks for all the help in the thread everyone!

FWIW My payments band to bank transfers into MtGox always appear at about 2am the day I make them, though I think I did it once in the evening and it took until 2am the next day.

Just as an update, I received an e-mail today confirming I was verified. I have now withdrawn my BTC and feel confident to use them over Intersango for now.

I have asked them for more details on the possible VPN issue, but I'm still waiting to hear back.

I spoke with support at MtGox regarding UK transfers a while back, since faster payments show up instantly I was wondering why I didn't get credited for 2 days. I was told that as they are based in Japan it takes longer for the payment to show in there account...?

For really fast trades there are a few guys on here and OTC that do UK Bank > Bank transfers, did my first trade this way on here today and from first pm to coins in wallet it took maybe 3hrs so that's always an option if you need the coin fast.

I don't think that's quite true as the account we send the Faster Payment to is UK based.

Yeah didn't make much sense to me either since my transfers to my partners account (Barclays > Barclays) show up within seconds, just dug up the reply I got from support.

Mt.Gox Support, Dec-20 10:04 (JST):

Hello,

Usually it takes another business day for the information to be released to us from Barclays (as we are in Japan and we are in a different time zone). However, we will notify you once your account is credited. Thank you for your patience in the process.

Thanks,

MtGox.com Team

Was using Intersango until recently since they had a much faster turnaround 2-10hrs usually, but after the recent problems and having my funds still tied up in there 10 days after a transfer I think im going to stick to trading on here.

Cheers for digging that out.

I guess while the money is credited instantly, they get sent the list of transactions in daily batches in order to apply them to MtGox. Due to time zones this can take slightly longer than expected.

The reason verification was needed was due to my VPN.
