Most of the HF members don't feel a huge need to participate here. Unfortunately it seems that a lot of exchanges actually require a release thread here to even be considered. Imagine Google telling Twitter that it can't get ranked well unless it had a nice Facebook page. Weird that the HF community has to join a smaller community to promote their already well-used coin that's a year old just to get onto additional exchanges. But it is what it is.
A good example of the HF activity just for Omnicoin. The Darkcoin release thread on this forum, which is one of the top 3 release threads here, is about the same activity that's in the Omnicoin subforum at HF. Just the Crypto Currency section there alone has 110k posts. So it's a very active site and Omnicoin is one out of over 300 categories there. So you'll probably see more newbie posters supporting OMC. What's important though is that the Omnicoin team is trying to push the alt-coin further than just HF. For the past year a lot of effort was placed into infrastructure, testing, and building up the coins base of users. It's pretty much already a success in the eyes of the community at HF. Now it's time to see if it can be moved beyond. has been great. The devs are dedicated to fixing issues and making sure the coin is ready before bringing it beyond HF, and they have certainly done a great job at it. The coin has been improving since it has started, and I still have great faith in it. I'm going to continue hoarding coins as I have been, and am working on a faucet to help some of the coin's new users get into the coin. All of the faucets and Omnicoin based games coming up recently are because this coin has pretty great community support, being the official cryptocurrency of a pretty large board. Going to continue being involved as I can in this coin as I have been since it started. Omnicoin is 5th but just looking at the coins above them most are pump and dumps and have no real popularity. The exception might be Monero. #1 Ambercoin - Not even a month old. Market cap has plummeted. #2 NakamotoDark -2 1/2 months old and has a smaller market cap than OMC. #3 Monero - Aged coin with some decent activity. Should be listed probably. #4 Global Coin Reserve (GCR) - Obvious pump and dump. No value. #5 Omnicoin - The oldest of the top 5 voted coins with no only decent marketcap but also a rising value and activity. So why doesn't Cryptsy just get it done and list OMC? It's the prefered exchange for them to be listed with. They aren't even trying to get on other exchanges. They already have over $500 worth of votes at Cryptsy too. Seems a high price just to get listed. They choose using a combination of criteria gatherd like community following , how many votes from individuals and also purchased votes (if 1 person buys 10,000 votes they would read it as an individual) they tend to go with coins if voted that have the highest individual votes over a purchased. I only know these details off asking they probably have other hidden requirements that they don't want people to know. It was and is used on hackforums for many trades, a large majority of the products in the hackforums marketplace can be bought with omnicoin. Omnicoin is currently listed on Bittrex ( https://bittrex.com/Market/?MarketName=BTC-OMC ) Omnicoin is still definitely being used, popularity is on the rise and so is the value. The price is not pumped, it has been steadily increasing as popularity increases because we are steadily releasing new innovations for OMC. More big things are in the works and soon to be released shortly. OMC definitely has a real future, it isn't just a write-off clone. OMC has a solid grounding and focus. Unfortunately, you are correct about the network mining state. A few miners are burst mining which is having a largely negative impact. The main dev's stopped supporting the coin. OMC has been going downhill for a while. Omniscient Was throwing about 1 BTC/week at the exchange to keep it above .2 btc volume. As one of the members of what was the official Omnicoin development team, I can tell you that there are still three of us that are involving ourselves with Omnicoin. There isn't much public work going on as of yet, but we are in the planning stages of efforts to reinvigorate the currency. Also, there will be another Omnicoin information site soon. He paid some of the development team's expenses, and that's about it. He only lost money on this coin because he was helping us keep a constant flow of coins on the market by buying coins that weren't being sold, and often selling them for less than they're worth just so there would be a market flow off of just private exchangers on forums.
