I have been using it myself for months now, continuously improving it - so it is highly optimized for daily use. The goals are that my tool saves you time - because you get all the data you need for daily 1 minute portfolio checking, and that it improves your trades - because you can react quicker when one of the markets starts moving. But it's my first such product. Please help me improve the sales side of this (In exchange you will get generous serial code extensions = free access). Thx.

Title: Re: AltSheets AltFolio - "My Story"
Post by: altsheets on March 06, 2015, 08:38:53 PM
"My Story"

Quote
It would be best to tell your own story:
how you came to love cryptos, why you found it hard tracking them,
what prompted you to implement this specific solution

So I was asked tell MY STORY (instead of posting a "buy my product" :) only). This became real fun typing:

My nerdy software romance
- an exciting, and mesmerizing plot, with surprising turn of events, no cliffhangers, but also a not too Happy End. More Nouvelle Vague than Hollywood, really *g*

...

SPREADSHEETS
I always loved the power of Excel spreadsheets - a few simple formulas chained after each other ... can calculate quite some complex questions. Great!

BITCOIN
So when I entered the bitcoin world, shortly after the last (ever?) rally in late 2013, I quickly used that talent for many things:
* Hardware profitability calculator sheets - turned out to be completely correct. But very wrong when BTC just never stopped falling in value (I actually sold my GPUs in the last possible second, early last summer).
* Trading logbooks - to understand better this mindbogglingly simplistic -but emotionally difficult- new task of TRADING. My highest early gain was more than 1000% sell over buy price - that's when I understood: Wow, here is how to make money (if I will ever get interested enough in money, that is). But man, I also lost sooooo much. And never again got over 10fold.
* Mining profitability sheets - in the end I had more or less replicated coinwarz, even with crossover-factors for all mining algorithms (Scrypt vs X11 vs ...).
* And sheets with all my 80+ wallets on 5 different computers, virtualboxes, and cloudmachines. "One day they will be valuable" - what a nonsense.
Bottomline: I have more than 10 different types of Excel sheets now, that I am using for cryptocurrencies. Very useful. And one of them evolved further:

GOOGLESHEETS
Then, for presenting a semi-scientific analysis (I could show that the richlist of a rather arbitrarily chosen coin ... follows a scale-free power law, in a large part), I chose GoogleSheets over Excel, mainly because I wanted to present it to our Facebook Group. At the end of that project, I had actually gotten some donations for it - but only very few. Cryptocurrencies are seemingly almost exclusively about TAKING from each other, very very seldom about GIVING, REWARDING, DONATING. Far from a better world, really, very far.
But I had learnt a big deal about GoogleSheets - they are not as advanced as Excel, but they live online - ideal for FB communication about data. And for most ideas so far I could at least write extensions in Javascript/GoogleAppsScript.

PORTFOLIO PIE CHART
In a small FB group, we were discussing the latest crypto technologies, and investment tipps. To simplify the communication, I came up with a pie chart visualisation of my portfolio. Showing only the relative amounts! That way, the very rich (approx 300times more money than me?) would look exactly like the very poor (me), and we could discuss strategies without envy or awkwardness (the otherwise unbridgeable divide between the ruthlessly rich and the heartbreakingly poor is a knockout argument against capitalism, actually - it's an antisocial system which we have to transcend eventually.).
Those pie charts really helped to understand each other better. One picture says it all. It didn't help me to loose money, though. (The tons of money that I lost in those months in that expert group, I still have not fully recovered *g*)
But the pie charts became the basis of the software system that is ready now.

LIVE UPDATE
To be able to calculate the total value of all my coins - yes, I was like Dagobert Duck playing coin rain in his vault. Only with a ridiculously smaller amount - ... I always wanted to have CURRENT PRICE DATA. Because most coins are loosing their value so quickly, that only with an automatic price update ... my spreadsheets would still make sense.
I found a superb library to parse JSON data, and started eating the API output of poloniex. Wow, this is so powerful. The internet has only really become useful when servers started to provide us with such structured data (and actually that only started to be relevant when ME began to parse that data :-) ). APIs are great, I want to work in that field!
Then I had to battle with countless problems, of course. A well known one: GoogleSheets are caching all their function results, so even if a price at an exchange changes dramatically, my sheet would show an old value. *Grmpf*. I found a workaround, a dummy parameter. Yiehah! (Skipping a lot of intermediate steps here).

SINGLE CELL UPDATES
In autumn, my sheet was not only ready and already very useful for myself - I had also put a lot of energy into it, to make it more easily accessible to other people (still, too idealistic I am). All cell types were coloured differently, external data different from locally calculated, and most importantly: "YOU ONLY EVER TOUCH THE ORANGE AND YELLOW CELLS" became a complete replacement of a 5 pages long manual.
I have been using it ever since, at least once a week - I wouldn't know how to trade without it actually. And two friends also used it. However, for some reason even that free/donationware version never really caught on. I don't understand humans well enough, I guess - or humans do not understand me well enough ;-) I probably need a good salesperson at my side! Send me your CV/successes.

BACKEND IDEA
With 15 coins the GoogleSheet became stuttering, some of the updates were either super slow, or failed completely. It was a combination of two things: The GoogleSheet server does not provide much CPU power, not much bandwidth or parallel webconnections - and poloniex was always sending data about all markets, even if I only wanted a single coin's price. Overload, laggy, not nice to use, really. And my future plans were to pull MORE data not less. No chance to continue with a GoogleSheet only.
Moreover, all the intelligence of my system had been completely embedded into the frontend, so there was no way of demanding money once the sheets were handed over (and as mentioned before, for me working on donation basis ... the average greedy cryptocoin person is not awakened enough, unfortunately.). So I had to come up with a serial code solution - if I wanted to afford to put more life time into it.

EARN MONEY
My hope is to sell it for very cheap to many many people, I prefer that to the other option of asking for a lot of money from a wealthy few. But I guess, at the beginning, I will have to take from the rich first? So please YOU WEALTHY ELITE (You can even donate anonymously, see the 3rd tab in the sheets): Please support this great programming project with 0.1% of what you own, or earn - that would help me to continue to improve the product, and offer it for a really low price. Be my patron please. If you want something in return, tell me - how could I help you?
The third option would actually be the fairest, but uncapitalistic: Take only a small fee from poor people, but take a 100 times higher price from richer people. Morally, it would make most sense, really. We have stopped to notice how much capitalism is preventing better or best ideas from at all getting into this (instead deteriorating) world ...

GOOD PRICE
If you have a good intuition for fair prices, please make a suggestion.
I need 5 prices: For 1day / 1week / 1month / 1quarter / 1year.

ASPECTS
* My rough idea was to ask a server by simply composing a URL which contains all the specifics of the question.
* I needed specific routines for each of the now 7 exchanges. One for getting, one for extracting from the JSON data.
* And I wanted to cache all API results, for a few second (No need to hammer the exchanges more often than every 30 seconds.).
* Cryptsy needed special treatment because it works with marketIDs instead of coin names.
* And Poloniex always delivers all market data, so it makes sense to cache it, for another coin.
* Django suggests a MVC (model, view, controller) approach, so I created my object models for Coins, and Markets.
* Plus I needed a customer database, for the authentication code system.
* And coinmarketcap can provide more than only price data - by the way a VERY useful extension: In a small table I can see if anything dramatic happened to any of my coins in the past hours, or days.
* A settings file distinguishes if the code is running on the dev system, or the production environment.
* There are maintenance and backup functions, and many tests to check the system.
* Finally, an elaborate form mechanism generates a new trial code when feeded with an email address.
Now that it is ready, it sounds so easy - but building all this organically, and testing it iteratively ... took months, part-time.

FRAMEWORK
I had to make a choice how to implement the server. I chose Django as the web framework, because Python is my favorite language. And Django has a very easy to use URL dispatcher, of which the manual page even mentions the excellent article http://www.w3.org/Provider/Style/URI of the WWW mastermind TimBernersLee (I guess that citation convinced me most :-) )
A choice I have never regretted - Django is an amazing plattform to build the App intelligence without having to care too much about the lower levels of implementation. Most of the time that is :-).

WHOLE COLUMN UPDATES
Now with CMC + exchanges, I was pulling in external data into 50 cells in parallel. Even without having to parse JSON (as my server now provides primitive, but fast CSV), GoogleSheets was acheing. Hmmm. I redesigned, to now return whole columns. It's a pity really - because why update all those coins that are not critical right now? But the speeding up was dramatic when I started to return whole columns. A future upgrade would replace that by somehow updating only those cells that the cursor is hovering over, or clicking into!

BACKEND BLOCKING TO ASYNC
In December, I was ready to launch. All was working perfectly again, even after the migration to half frontend / half backend. It was working better than before - but honestly, only a little bit better. still, I proudly presented it to X, but in the first minutes he found my design problem: Not async but blocking. Ooops. For me that became not a few lines of code, but a whole conceptual upgrade of my programming abilities. Over decades, I had programmed tens of thousands of lines of code, but on single core processors, and without waiting for any data. Just waiting for number crunching (some of my science simulations were running days before they then returned one number, but with high accuracy).
Anyways, threaded / async programming had never been necessary for what I had built so far. Until now. I understood the principle, but had not a clue about how to implement it. So weeks of super-interesting learning started. By now, I have fully explored threading; it arrived in my repertoire late - but when needed. And it sped up the data access BIG time, most (whole column!) updates now need much less than a second. If not, the reason is usually poloniex ;-)

ASYNC NEEDS LOCKING
New abilities = new problems. The App server is providing my App to the WWW in a dozen independent worker processes. And ooops - suddenly there were some database objects doubled which should only ever exist once - of course, due to the -now async- concurrent access of several workers onto the same database. Such a problem is solved by an object called Lock - only the process that acquires the lock is getting access to the scarce resource.
In my webforum research about django database locking, postgreSQL had been suggested to be the much better choice than the default sqlite3, so I learnt how to install and configure postgreSQL on Linux and Windows, and migrated everything - only to find out, that new and different concurrency problems appeared. And that postgreSQL is up to 20 times slower than the primitive but lean sqlite3.
In the end, I created my own lock system, db-independent. And I hope sqlite3 simply keeps on scaling up with all the additional load to my server :-)

FINDING TESTERS
Of course, the above is only describing a tiny bit of what really happened from the very first idea "let's make a pie chart" to this fully working end user software. But perhaps you found it a bit interesting to read a nerd story?  My honest hope is that I could: Seduce you into a free trial of my product. Send me your email address.
Because ... finding testers, buyers, even taking-it-for-free people seems to be a hundred times more difficult than any of the above challenges. And I don't understand why. I have helped lots of people on the internet, invested hundreds of hours into FB groups and BCT, donated tons of my time - but when it comes to me asking for 10 minutes of other people's time, I am given zero - that is actually a bit disappointing right now. Are most cryptocurrency people really as bad as their reputation? (*)

Please help me understand the phenomenon better, yes - but first please
* have at least tried out my product once,
* have pressed "update" a few times in it, and then
* have smiled at your thought of: "wow, this AltSheets AltFolio is a really useful software" ...

:-)

End-of-nerdstory,
about an altcoin trading helper software,
version v06, typed on 2015 March 4th & 5th & 6th.

(*) addendum "TRUST":

Very thankful for feedback: It was pointed out to me that TRUST could be an issue:

> The problem you have now is trust though,
> you are using "Alt Sheets Dev" as a user name,
> nobody wants to click anything by that,
> might be a trojan,
> might be someone shady trying to rip them off.

Of course, I hadn't though about that point yet - because I do trust myself, and fully. I will think about how to make this more transparent. However, right now I would actually not even know how to betray people with it. Why? It's your own copy of a GoogleSheet that you run. All the frontend code is accessible to you, you can check the code easily (MENU ... tools ... script editor). Please open it now, for a minute (I had even put some comments into that code.)

But I will take such doubts serious. Whoever has trust issues about this, and ideas: Please work together with me about it, so that I can find out how to make my customers feel safer. Thanks a 10^6 !

A new suggestion which solves it: ... is to simply use a fresh gmail account.

The AltSheets AltFolio works with your own copy of my GoogleSheet, which lives in your own GoogleDrive - so if you want to be supercareful, just create a completely new googleaccount for that ... and even if I had malicious intentions, you should then be 100% safe.

The goals are

that my tool saves you time - because you get all the data you need for daily 1 minute portfolio checking, and
that it improves your trades - because you can react quicker when one of the markets starts moving.

I kind of like my last facebook announcement, because it is short, and explains it well - doesn't it?

Quote
Do you own a couple of different altcoins? Then this might be interesting for you. Portfolio Overview, made really easy. Test my fully functioning software for free now.

I wasn't happy with none of the existing altcoin portfolio solutions, so I programmed my own. And after months of polishing, and testing, it's ready for end users now. Versatile, and really easy to use.

 The goals are
 * that my tool saves you time - because you get all the data you need for a daily 1 minute portfolio checking, and
 * that it improves your trades - because you can react quicker when one of the markets starts moving.

PM me now for the trial invitation - or first look around on my page www.facebook.com/altsheets (4min) or bct thread (7min), or twitter handle (1min), or watch the video (3min), or look into the SCREENSHOTS (1min) - all linked from there.

If you help me in any way (e.g. review the program, or find a bug!), of course you will get a generous serial code extension.
 Thanks! Enjoy your weekend.

I stumbled across Altsheets right at the start on FB.  Using my special talents as a Newbie, I worked with him to make it 'me-proof.'  Somehow he pulled it off, it's so easy to use even I can't screw it up.  It took me 10 minutes to load up the information, and the spreadsheet took over.  Now instead of flipping thru Poloniex, Cryptsy, and Bittrex i just pull up Google Spreadsheets to check coin price changes, volume, etc. in about 3 seconds.  I bought three months right off of the bat, a bargain considering that time is money.  Staring at those screens got old very quickly and now THAT burden is gone.  Even as-is I love it, but I'm told that it will be expanded even more.  He gave me a free trial and was responsive and helpful.  What more could I ask for, really?

In case you are wondering, I was and will be paid NOTHING for this endorsement.  The trial is free for everyone.

Make sure you have all the available information  before  you invest into an asset.

I have created an assetparser.py  (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=998804.0)to analyze the existing asset markets on HZ and NXT.
It is intended to help me to analyze the situation better when creating my own asset (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=981128).

The first results are out there, in form of a teaser table. May this information be useful for your trading!

AltFolio - possible extension: Asset prices

If you can get the asset price from servers like http://coinmarketcap.com/assets/ , then maybe it's possible to integrate assets also into your altsheets portfolio sheet? Then it would offer a nice overwiev over assets and coins. Would be cool  8) .
Yes, for sure, asset inclusion is definitely planned for one of the next versions.

I have already put considerable time into studying the API, and how to do it.  By the way, a fun fact: That was my original intention, to just get the last-price out of the Nxt/HZ platform API, and pull that data into AltFolio ... which made me look so much deeper, that a whole new product came out of it (assetparser.py (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=998804.0)) in the end. I wanted just prices, and got the whole asset marketplace ;-)

For HZ&Nxt I don't even have to go through aggregators like CMC, because by now I know the Nxt/HZ well enough to extract directly what I need.

Now I just have to take the time to program (and then debug :-) ) it.

Open question: Design how?

What I still don't know is how to handle the suddenly more base currencies.
Because Horizon assets are traded in HZ, counterparty assets in XCP, etc. - and the asset owners know their prices, but only in that base currency.

At the moment my frontend is all done in BTC.
(Plus one dollar column, just to offer an intuitive number.)

But imagine, we will have HZ, and NXT, and MSC, and XCP, and XAI ... and now NEM, for all the asset marketplaces.
That would cause more columns, and clutter up the interface a lot.

I am almost decided to internally recalculate all asset prices to BTC.
That however, is going against the intuition of the "I only look at one platform" people.

But other sites have started to to that too, at least with volume.

Open question for me, really:
Continue to base everything in BTC (and let my dataserver handle all such complications - just return a BTC price, regardless);
or add more columns into the frontend, for all the new base currencies ? ? ?

coin and asset acronyms

P.S.: I just saw that the assets seem to have an abbreviation/symbol like the coins (e.g. the asset Supernet has the symbol "UNITY").

All these should be accepted - by the coinmarketcap columns generator. I have not compared them yet against all 51 assets that CMC is supporting (http://coinmarketcap.com/assets/views/all/) - are they all in there?

So is it just possible to fill in the symbol in your sheet and then the asset will be treated like coin in the spreadheet?
Yes, should be, please report back what you find out!

All feedback very welcome, always.

Then my request would be unnecessary.
Not at all. Please continue to ask.

I hope I now finally find the time to go through you suggestions in your long email. Can I publish my answers publicly? Thanks!

Just fill in the letters and that would be it.
Jep. Please you try that out.

Plus we have to get last-price data for the assets. I could allow "cmc" in the "get-price-from" column (orange column decides about --> first green column).

Earn crypto with adspace on your website - really easy now!

I checked all the sites which have adspaces for nxtad.
Some sites are rubbish faucet banner graveyards, but
some of them high quality sites. For now, I advertise on these:

http://www.cryptocoincharts.info (!)
http://freenxt.org
http://coincreator.de
http://www.cryptoblog.org.uk
http://doge.br22.com
http://www.bitcoinfacile.it
http://www.bestfaucetsfor.me/

I would love to advertise on more & better sites, and
preferably with the beautifully implemented NXTAD system.
It even accepts deposits of NXT, BTC, BTCD, DASH, LTC, and DOGE now.

If you know website owners - please tell them how easy NXTAD is to implement!

- Register. Add your website to a list. Create ad space = some HTML code is generated. Put that into your page. Done.
- Within ~1 hour, your website can make money.
- Then tell me, and I will book my banners onto your site!

Wow, very nice advancement, thank you! (Well, I hope the sales will thank you... and then your asset will thank me...  ;)  ;D  ).

So is it just possible to fill in the symbol in your sheet and then the asset will be treated like coin in the spreadheet?
Yes, should be, please report back what you find out!

Jep. Please you try that out.

Will try it out and be back when I find the time...

I hope I now finally find the time to go through you suggestions in your long email. Can I publish my answers publicly? Thanks!

Well, I don't know if it's good to make everything public when you want to sell something and get the money alone, it might imply the danger of being copied. On the other hand, a completely closed system is also difficult. If you keep rewarding the people who help you, it's OK, but if it's copied, I don't know if you can sell enough... difficult, but decide as you wish, it's your business, I only own some little bit of your assets...

Have a nice day!

How does it work? Look at my asset info page for example: http://AAssethz.ddns.net
On the very right there is this banner space. Hover over the "ad" on the top left, then
press "Advertise here". There you can register. To advertise. Or as a website owner.

Why not try it out, just for learning it? Perhaps make a banner for your asset poll thread,
and advertise it for a few cents, to see how it works, and to see what happens then.

It's an elegantly implemented system.

Altfolio description - sentences for press releases, etc.

The GUI frontend of the ‘AltFolio’ software is a GoogleSheet, so experienced spreadsheet users have full control, and can adapt everything to their needs! For beginners, it is intuitively colored so you hardly need any manual - and some 500 lines of Google AppsScript give it extra functionality. The many automatic cells make it so useful, and the updates come from a dedicated  data server - that backend consists of 3000 lines of Python code, which concurrently collects and caches from 9 data sources, including bittrex, and poloniex. And coinmarketcap - which shows me immediately if something dramatic happened to one of my coins in the past hour and week.

AltSheets structure, definitions, and names

I was told my endeavour is "progressive as fuck".
Already too complex, or a bit confusing?

Perhaps it is time to define my 4 new words:

... AltSheets = Altcoin Spreadsheets - a software family:
... ... AltFolio - the auto-updated portfolio tracker
... ... assetparser.py - the HZ&Nxt asset market blockchain parser in Python

... AAssetHZ - my AltSheets asset shares, on HZ

-->

AltSheets
* a software family
* to ease the life of altcoin and altasset traders
* --> AltSheets AltFolio,
* --> AltSheets assetparser, and the resulting --> asset market overview study ...

AltFolio
* is the altcoin portfolio overview sheet
* the software you are invited to try now (http://altsheets.ddns.net/altfolio) for free.
* can be bought as a month/quarterly/yearly licensed “Software-as-a-service”.
* with GoogleSheet frontend, and 500 lines of GoogleAppsScript to add functionality
* and data server backend in 3000 lines of Python, which manages fast, concurrent access to 9 data sources
* more info: read this thread here "AltFolio - price-updated ALTcoin PortFOLIO Overview (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=978804)"

assetparser.py
* an analyzer for HZ and NXT asset markets
* compares 107 HZ assets, and 488 NXT assets with each other
* in 28 observables, mostly statistical
* is written in Python, accessing the node API, to parse the blockchain data of the past
* the program output can be bought (107x27 and 488x28 cells big spreadsheets), and the program sourcecode can be bought
* more info in its own thread assetparser.py (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=998804)
* was originally just meant to explain me more about the asset market when I designed:

AAssetHZ
* the profit sharing, dividends paying, tradeable ... asset shares
* with which I sell 5% (five percent) of all future AltSheets profits
* buy them on HoriZon Platform now
* second largest volume among all HZ assets!
* more info in its own thread "[ANN][AAssetHZ] AltSheets Asset on HoriZon - software profits dividends (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=981128.0)",

Logo & Banners & Colors & Font - Competition ?

See the above "structure" text - a whole set of (icon-like?) objects would be nice.

But first: Please help me to understand this whole topic better.

Have you observed many? (because myself I kind of ignored logo competitions in the past).
Which such competition worked really well, in the recent past? Why do you think that is?

What is the order of magnitude for a prize that is attractive enough to get seriously talented designers to participate?
(And how much if I can only afford a 90% solution - for now?)

N.B.: This competition has NOT started yet. I always need time to think, and listen, and research. As an example, see my asset thread - it took from #1(March 08, 2015 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=981128.0)) to #41 (March 28, 2015 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=981128.msg10908865#msg10908865)) to launch AAssetHZ ! Also ... it could save me time (a scarce resource right now) to simply work together with ONE designer. So if you know someone, please point her/him to me ...

Much appreciated feedback of a knowledgeable user
N.B.: The larger size headings are not really part of the answer,
but rather a way to structure this long text better, for other readers.

Hey Hubus,
I finally find the time to go through your suggestions. Crazy times, since the launch. So much, and so different things to do.

> I had a look at your Altsheets Sheet.
Thanks a lot. Much appreciated. Every idea is welcome!

Spreadsheets

> Personally, I like spreadsheets (Excel) - like you.
Yes. Especially chaining of operations is so easy. Complex calculations can be broken down. And once formulas are defined, applied to whole columns. Spreadsheets are great!

Then when I decided to split my program into frontend, and Python backend - I made it even more useful. A lot of previous problems were suddenly solvable.

By the way, only a small part is visible to you users. Much of the intelligence lives in the Python backend now. It has become a powerful architecture. I like this short text that explains it well (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=978804.msg10980186#msg10980186).

Frontend

What am I talking about when I say "frontend"?  Please open
AltFolio ... Menu ... Tools ... Script Editor ... altsheets-scripts.gs

To me, 'frontend' is the visible spreadsheet including the GS (GoogleappsScript) that is extending its functions.

Make your own mod

> So for me it's good to have this as a spreadsheet.
Feel free to re-arrange, and extend and expand it.

Would love to see which mods will come up.
One other mod already exists, by the way.

> I would probably even like to customize it for my taste,
Exactly.
Please do so.

> which might be difficult if you want to protect your program.
Not at all. Go ahead.
You work in your copy anyways.

And really cool ideas could be reinserted upstream
- and I will reward you for it!

The protection comes with the data server authentication.
Plus expecting a minimum of morals from my customers, of course ;-)

Excel port?  LibreOffice port?

> On the other hand, it should be possible
> to link my own spreadsheets to yours
Sounds interesting.

> (if it would be in Excel).
Two ways:

Either you import your existing sheets into GoogleSheets (if they are script-less then super-easy, automatic import for most of the Excel functions),

... or start building that portation to Excel.

An Excel version is already on my long list of ideas for the future (but not with high priority). One day, I might do it myself: Learn VBA, and do an Excel version of the frontend. Or probably it then won't be Excel, but LibreOffice/OpenOffice due to its different license - and of course it also has a scripting language (https://wiki.openoffice.org/wiki/Documentation/DevGuide/Scripting/Scripting_Framework).

However, as the data server backend is an online resource, I see not a huge advantage in building an offline version of the frontend. So why not Googlesheets?

I'd like your opinion on that.

Several frontends

>  I don't know if a local Excel version of this would be possible, but I would like it.
Of course it would be. Possible.
I simply took a decision early, to go for the online, GoogleSheets version.

But different frontends are possible. For sure.

For example, I have another quick'n'dirty hack as a completely different frontend - still only for myself, because it is slightly more complex to use.
Have you installed Python 2.7 ?  Then I could let you try it ...

Easy to use

> On the other hand, I think for a broader public,
Never to forget about them, I have to

(Yoda speak :-) )

> a spreadsheet version might be to complicated
If that turns out to be the case, I will make a altfolio-for-dummies version :-)

But let us first try this more advanced technology ... hoping for some tech literacy - just because it is so damn useful.

> and leading to errors
The good thing about googlesheets is the eternal rollback. With
Menu ... File ... see revision history ...
you just hop to a version in your own past, which still worked.

Solved.

> (look at your "many" instructions,
Yes.

For a quickstart you really only have to stay to the one-liner rule:

--> Only ever edit the orange and yellow cells <--

If you stick to that, _most_ problems can be avoided.

But not all, I agree.

I made videos, too. You only have to see them once, less than 10 minutes.

Clever software for clever users

> where the user has to find and input his changes freely.
Yes, flexibility comes with (the disadvantage of) choice.

> I think this is only possible, if the user already knows spreadsheets.
We have just had a case in which an spreadsheet newbie -quickly- went all the way, and he is enthusiastic about the power of (a) my programm, and (b) spreadsheets in general.

> For a good-selling program, probably a standalone version would be best.
Not impossible to do, yes.
But then you have 3 different operating systems, etc.
It would probably better become a webpage as a frontend.

For my taste, however, the whole concept would loose an essential part of its beauty.
I had been using static solutions, and didn't like them. That's why I built AltFolio.

Perhaps ... I make software for intelligent people?

And: Look at the cryptocurrency scene  - even after 5 years, the majority still has a higher tech literacy than the average population.

Scripts

> I can write some Excel makros (programs),
Superb.

Then please do have a look at the frontend GoogleScript code.

Perhaps you feel like porting it?

> so it might be possible to hide even more of your formulas
> from the screen and automate some of the inputs.
I am really open to suggestions.

> Well, it seems to be possible with these scripts ("Altsheets Functions"), too.
Yep.

> I should learn this, what kind of script is this, is it included in Google Sheets?
Yep.

See above.

GUI

>  You could form a more graphical user interface for the commands and inputs, maybe.

Unfortunately "buttons" are (still) implemented in a really stupid way, in this evolution step of GS.

They are graphics objects, have to be created (and linked to functions) manually, and (seemingly) do not get an addressable identity. *meh* GS is primitive.

If I had found a better way to create, show (and hide!) buttons, then I would have built a functions panel - instead of that slightly off menu.

But Google is a fast moving company, and when they upgrade their GS, I can do more such things.

Buy at different prices

> More improvement ideas:
Super, thanks!

> 1) Often, one buys the same currency at different times and prices.
Yes. Me. Often.

> So far, the only solution with your spreadsheet seems to be to add another row.
No no no. Please don't :-)

Simply combine all purchases,
into one average buy price,
and a total sum of coins.

> But then the currency is displayed separately.
> It's ok, but would be better, if all different buys
> in the same currency could be added and summed up to one total.
Yes.

> Maybe you should think of such a function for later.
> A heavy trader won't only make one buy for one price.
Sure.

I often have several consecutive buys at different prices.

The current workaround is the little handy "Combined purchases calculator" below the main table.

What you want is to divide the total BTC expenses by total purchased coins, to get an average buy price.

Any idea to improve usability more - happy to hear!
I want to reduce the "number of necessary clicks and keyboard presses" more.

> And a light trader probably doesn't need a software
> to keep his few things under control.
AltFolio actually allows a "light trader" to do one careful step towards becoming a "heavy trader", by having more different coins in overview than before.

BTC vs fiat

> 2) If you don't want to play and don't want to loose money,
> I think you would be more interested in the value in US $ or,
> in my case, in Euros €, especially as the Bitcoin is so volatile.
That's what the one column "balance in USD" is for.
I often look at it, just to get a feeling how "important" that coin is, and not to care too much about 4 dollars worth of (what-turned-out-to-be-)shitcoins :-)

My intuition still needs fiat value, sometimes.

> So you really only know if you made a plus or minus,
> if you take the price of the Bitcoin itself into account!
Not sure that I agree with that.

Because I trade my altcoins often, but
bitcoin-fiat only really really seldom.

Or do you really do the (HZ --> BTC --> EUR --> BTC --> HZ) conversions for each and every hickup of the BTC price?

My altcoin trading is a way to increase my BTC total.
And in a good moment I trade BTC for fiat then.

In my first months with cryptos I was always converting everything to Euros; I don't do that anymore.
REAL money is bitcoins, Euros are just fiatmoney :-)

> Of course, the Bitcoin is an important denominator for the altcoins,
> but to see if you really made a plus or minus with your altcoins
> (and Bitcoins), you need to relate it to a fiat money like $ or  €.

What about this:

You introduce extra columns into your own copy,
and try out the best ways to represent that.

You can simply use the cell P3 (bitstamp USD/BTC)
to multiply everything, to get dollar values.

Please first start with dollars.

Then in my next backend upgrade, I build you a EUR/BTC data "askServer" function.

What about that plan?

N.B.: When you insert colums, some of the extra-menu-functionality
will break, for a moment, until you also fix the column numbers and
names in lines 17-56 of the GS code.
Please make a comment, to find your changes more easily later.

future version: Euros!

> 3) If this is too much,
> I would at least like it,
> if it would be possible to choose
> Euros besides Dollars for the balance column.

good idea.

It's on the TODO list now.

For now:
USD/EUR is almost at parity (https://duckduckgo.com/?q=1+euro+in+dollar).
Just subtract one tenth from everything, and you have the Euro value.

Thank you very very much!

> Ok, I don't know if my comments are already worth 3 % of your profits,
:-)

Your comments are  ... invaluable.

But why do you say 3%?

>  but at least I earned a serial key prolongation... ;-) ?

Of course you do. Definitely.

I have just prolonged it once more. try menu ... "serial key server answer refresh".

Thank you soooooooo much. Be sure: All of your ideas, and suggestions have been heard, and some are already on the list for future versions of the software. Thank you for your attention!

Please keep on using, and help improving it!

Happy Easter!

Hello,

thank you for your answers! As usual, time is a scarce resource, so I don't know if and when I can answer more or even try to make my own version of your spreadsheet - usually, that's why people just want to buy a fully functional version and be lazy themselves!  ;D

The protection comes with the data server authentication.
Plus expecting a minimum of morals from my customers, of course ;-)

Hey, we are in THE INTERNET here!  :o

> (if it would be in Excel).
Two ways:

An Excel version is already on my long list of ideas for the future (but not with high priority).

However, as the data server backend is an online resource, I see not a huge advantage in building an offline version of the frontend. So why not Googlesheets?

I am from old times, I always prefer local versions. And so far, everything through the browser takes more computer resources, more time and more steps and more open windows and confusion, as far as I see it (and I don't have a super new computer).

>  I don't know if a local Excel version of this would be possible, but I would like it.
Of course it would be. Possible.

> I can write some Excel makros (programs),
Superb.

Then please do have a look at the frontend GoogleScript code.

Perhaps you feel like porting it?

Have you installed Python 2.7 ?  Then I could let you try it ...

Excel would be interesting, I would like to try a portation, but that would probably cost too much time for me... I don't have Python, but will have a look at it.

Perhaps ... I make software for intelligent people?

Maybe, but if they are too intelligent, they might not buy your software but do everything on their own?
> I should learn this, what kind of script is this, is it included in Google Sheets?

> 1) Often, one buys the same currency at different times and prices.
Yes. Me. Often.

> So far, the only solution with your spreadsheet seems to be to add another row.
No no no. Please don't :-)

Simply combine all purchases,
into one average buy price,
and a total sum of coins.

The current workaround is the little handy "Combined purchases calculator" below the main table.

What you want is to divide the total BTC expenses by total purchased coins, to get an average buy price.

But I thought, the software should save me from work and from calculating everything on my own. If I have to do this in Excel first and then export the results to your google spreadheet, I have to do so many steps by myself and on two different platforms. Then I might not use your software but do everything in my Excel spreadsheet.

> 2) If you don't want to play and don't want to loose money,
> I think you would be more interested in the value in US $ or,
> in my case, in Euros €, especially as the Bitcoin is so volatile.
That's what the one column "balance in USD" is for.

My intuition still needs fiat value, sometimes.

That is only half of the problem and it's not only about intuition, it is really necessary if you want to calculate profits.

If you really don't want to loose money and if you trade seriously, it's absolutely necessary and important, as the bitcoin price does not only "hickup", but does a lot more, possibly changing by 20 % on a single day, and much, much more in two weeks! That's not a hickup, that's changing from rocket high to vomiting and sick...!

And it is a problem of the altcoins, which I would really like to look at: They change when the BTC price changes - but not in the same and predictable and clearly linear manner! They are neither independent from the BTC nor completely dependend - this is very interesting for a trader!

In my first months with cryptos I was always converting everything to Euros; I don't do that anymore.
REAL money is bitcoins, Euros are just fiatmoney :-)

So you buy everything you need with BTC? I don't believe you...  :P

What about this:

You introduce extra columns into your own copy,
and try out the best ways to represent that.

You can simply use the cell P3 (bitstamp USD/BTC)
to multiply everything, to get dollar values.

N.B.: When you insert colums, some of the extra-menu-functionality

I'll try. Maybe. If I find the time.

> Ok, I don't know if my comments are already worth 3 % of your profits,
:-)

Your comments are  ... invaluable.

But why do you say 3%?

You wrote it somewhere, I don't recall where it was now.

I have just prolonged it once more. try menu ... "serial key server answer refresh".

Thank you very much! It's important for me, as I don't look at it every day...!

P.S.: I just saw that the assets seem to have an abbreviation/symbol like the coins (e.g. the asset Supernet has the symbol "UNITY").
Yes, and I have just done this here for you:
Code:
$MINE, $MINEW, $MINEZ, 10K,......... ZIRK, ZRC, ZS
All these should be accepted - by the coinmarketcap columns generator. I have not compared them yet against all 51 assets that CMC is supporting (http://coinmarketcap.com/assets/views/all/) - are they all in there?

I tried today to insert the Asset Abbreviation, but your sheet has to fetch the data from some server!? So far, I found only the exchanges (like Bittrex, cryptsy etc.) in column M, but they don't have any assets, so where do you get these values? Or is it still something planned?

P.S.: I just saw that the assets seem to have an abbreviation/symbol like the coins (e.g. the asset Supernet has the symbol "UNITY").
Yes, and I have just done this here for you:
Code:
$MINE, $MINEW, $MINEZ, 10K,......... ZIRK, ZRC, ZS
All these should be accepted - by the coinmarketcap columns generator. I have not compared them yet against all 51 assets that CMC is supporting (http://coinmarketcap.com/assets/views/all/) - are they all in there?
I tried today to insert the Asset Abbreviation,
Thanks a lot!

Which ones have you tried?
With which results?

but your sheet has to fetch the data from some server!?
No, it makes up an answer on the basis of random function :-) Just a joke.

Correct is:
Your sheet-copy compiles the questions column-wise,
then when you press "update" ... asks my data server,
which in turn asks the data sources (*) - all async/concurrently;
and then the data sources provide the answers. Usually.
All is cached, and sent back to your sheet.
Then you decide to sell or buy :-)

I have implemented dedicated API access routines for (*) 8 exchanges (bittrex, poloniex, ccex, ...), plus coinmarketcap.com .

More is possible easily - I just have to find the time. You buying the software allows me to prioritize extending it along your wishes.

So far, I found only the exchanges (like Bittrex, cryptsy etc.) in column M, but they don't have any assets,
correct.

They have VERY few assets yet, and implemented them like coins.

The news about this type of cryptoassets is actually ... that they live on the blockchain (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=981128.msg10697516#msg10697516), and they are traded in DISTRIBUTED asset exchanges. No need for mtgox, mintpal, poloniex, allcoin ... and all the other places that already got/robbed our coins in the past.

so where do you get these values?
I will build a similar gateway between my dataserver, and a HZ / Nxt node, to fetch asset prices. Thinking is being done - See the design questions in this thread.

Or is it still something planned?

Y

-->

AltFolio - possible extension: Asset prices
Yes, for sure, asset inclusion is definitely planned for one of the next versions.

but already:

Code:
... ZEIT, ZET, ZIRK, ZRC, ZS
All these should be accepted - by the coinmarketcap columns generator.

Thanks a lot for your long answer above. Will get to it.

Enjoy your weekend!

:-)

> So you really only know if you made a plus or minus,
> if you take the price of the Bitcoin itself into account!
Not sure that I agree with that.

Because I trade my altcoins often, but
bitcoin-fiat only really really seldom.

Or do you really do the (HZ --> BTC --> EUR --> BTC --> HZ) conversions for each and every hickup of the BTC price?

If you really don't want to loose money and if you trade seriously, it's absolutely necessary and important, as the bitcoin price does not only "hickup", but does a lot more, possibly changing by 20 % on a single day, and much, much more in two weeks! That's not a hickup, that's changing from rocket high to vomiting and sick...!

And it is a problem of the altcoins, which I would really like to look at: They change when the BTC price changes - but not in the same and predictable and clearly linear manner! They are neither independent from the BTC nor completely dependend - this is very interesting for a trader!

... I could have edited my answer, but I think it's more clear to add something here:

If we want to calculate the "real" values, it is not necessarily the price of the EUR, BTC and HZ triplett at a given timestamp. Unfortunately, the calculation cannot be completely automated, as we don't buy the BTC with Euros at the same time as we buy the HZ with Bitcoins. Usually, you buy some amount of BTC at an individual time before you convert your BTC into HZ. And then, if we convert this back to Euros, we also do this at two different times and perhaps not with equivalent amounts.

So if I really want to calculate my profits/losses in the right way (and if you want to relate to fiat currency and not to BTC for this), I would have to note my personal EUR/BTC exchange price and amount manually, and then again the BTC/HZ price. And if I exchange EUR/BTC not a single time, but more often (which is normal), I even have to note from which BTC tranche I have bought which HZ tranche!

So it might be too complicated, but it would be the only accurate way to calculate my profits/losses (in EUR)!

(I think it would also be interesting for tax calculation, if you assume that you do everything accurate and legally...!  ;D )

Good thinking. You are completely right, for tax accuracy, another approach would have to be taken. All exact transactions that actually happened need to be taken into account, preferably directly downloaded from all 539 blockchains (http://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/views/all/) of all currencies. And for the exchanges (which is partly hidden data!) complex mixtures of them have to be manually input. E.g.:

I bought some BTC at 600 USD which I still had been lying around, and combine that with some new bitcoin which I got cheap for 180 USD and some to the day price of 237USD; then use 93% of the whole lot to buy some HZ at 101 Satoshi, and 94 Satoshi - and after buying and selling some assets on HZ (of which I actually keep 43% into the next tax year) ... I do the whole thing in reverse, but at 120 and 117 Satoshi per HZ - and can unfortunately sell my BTC only at 234 USD now - but I need the fiat so I have to.

A very realistic example of what could really happen. And when future tax officers (or their bots) then discover on the blockchain that I had bought those third bitcoin 17 seconds later - and then the exchange rate was actually 1.2% lower ... they will put a chain to my feet, and I have to live on water and bread for a while ;)

My program is not intended to solve that.

Instead, AltFolio informs me -to its best knowledge- about the here and now. With the goal of looking into the future.

So that I can base my buy and sell decisions on real data. Without going to 5 different websites, loosing time for nothing.
... now I only check the price charts of those coins which have recently moved. <-- that, to me, is its greatest advantage.

But I agree, for Prussian accuracy :P, it will always be only an approximation of the situation.

> from which BTC tranche I have bought which HZ tranche!
Due to the property of fungibility of currencies (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fungibility) ... that is not necessary.
Imagine a trip to the US: Which 10 dollar note will you take out of your pocket when you buy a Veggieburger? The note which you got for 9 Euros - or the one which you bought for 8.50 Euros last year?

All we need to do is calculate a new average buy price.

> want to relate to fiat currency
Try to implement your ideas about conversion into the different currencies - or into those that you favor most. It's easy. My choice of a GoogleSheet frontend has the immense advantage that you can make your own mod of the frontend. And you know your Excel well - so it should be easy for you. Have fun with it! :-)

Either that or worse! Spending all my time with arguing with them, filling in forms, calculating and trying to prove that I did not make a few cents more than they think... and I thought Altsheets could save my from this  :'( !

At least, one should try to have some kind of "before & after" pools to see if the money got more or less.

With the goal of looking into the future.

How's that?

> from which BTC tranche I have bought which HZ tranche!

All we need to do is calculate a new average buy price.

There, you are of course right! My thinking or explanation wasn't clear there  :P - but I had in mind, that you at least have to note all the tranches - otherwise you cannot calculate that average.

I still did not look at how to get this into your spreadsheet or if I have to calculate this separately in Excel, but for my taste, it would be good to have such an average calculation space directly in your sheet, maybe in a different table, but relating to your main table. As we have already discussed, also for different tranches of the same altcoin (bought at different BTC prices).

I like to work in a single file (and offline is still much faster on my computer). If we have to switch all the time between local and online, I will look for import/export possibilities from Googlesheets to Excel and vice versa.

Btw, Microsoft has an online version of Excel, now, too. Will look at that, too, but as far as I tried it, it is also unconvenient and slow compared to my "personal" Excel.

Yes, I agree - combining purchases is still the most tedious part of using it.
The little "calculator" at the bottom has at least automatized the necessary calculations now.
It takes me less than a minute, to update my sheet when I have bought additional coins.
(And most of the time, I am just LOOKING at the sheet, to see if anything dramatic has happened.)

But I agree, in this version there is still some considerable number of clicks and copy-paste operations, that can be reduced ... in future versions.

Thanks for insisting, by the way, that made me think about it longer - I think I came up with an idea how that might be solved more elegantly than now. Will try in a future update of the frontend. Until then: Semi-automatic, manual copy-pasting :-)

By the way:
The far future could also have an option for APIkey&secret input (needs more trust, though),
and direct import from all (8!) exchanges. That would automatize this step completely.

But to be able to implement all that ... I would need additional funding first.
Which will happen. This is a long distance endeavour ;-)

Excel
An OpenOffice/LibreOffice portation of the frontend, I could imagine. Not now, rather mid-future.

But the longer I think about it - the less likely I will invest myself into a (completely proprietary) Excel+VBA portation.

But you speak VBA, right?

Ah, I see, if I understood it right, you keep an old value in the upper row, and each time you buy some new, you insert it into the lower row and then take the result as the new old value?

By the way:
The far future could also have an option for APIkey&secret input (needs more trust, though),

I am not sure if I understood everything. Would that give the user full control over your sheet? I like that, but on the other hand, that will take away your last protection if you want to sell anything. Then you are dependent on good will, probably like selling shareware on a voluntary paying basis?

Excel
An OpenOffice/LibreOffice portation of the frontend, I could imagine. Not now, rather mid-future.

Yeah, while looking at all this new Microsoft monthly paying and online Office shit, I also begin to think slowly about changing one day, maybe. On the other hand, the old versions of Office I already own, have all (maybe more) core functionality - concerning the functions I usually I need - than the new versions and I am not sure if I need new versions at all. It might only be a compatibility/communication problem, when I am the last person who is using this (good) old software.

But the longer I think about it - the less likely I will invest myself into a (completely proprietary) Excel+VBA portation.

But you speak VBA, right?

I am not a 100 % professional in VBA, but did some things a while ago and might learn more (especially as the help functions in this system are very nice and useful, I don't know if this is the same in OpenOffice) - the only thing which would currently be missing in my knowledge to build an Excel-clone of your sheet are probably things like those web queries, and licence keys and such things.

And as I said: I use old versions. I can only recommend to get them for a cheap price, it should be allowed to do business with the "Office Professional" versions, shouldn't it? But people always want new things, even if they are made more dependent and even if functions are reduced...

P.S.: The REAL thing would be to build some kind of HZ wallet wich has the functions of your sheet. OK, a sheet always has advantages, but maybe if you use the core functions and add an export (.csv) function, for example... What programming language is used to build those wallets? Java? (I told you to have a look at the SuperNet NXT wallet, it has some interesting etended functions in terms of asset administration, dividends, polls and decentralized exchange. I hope the HZ exchange - it's available as asset, too - will soon be realized).

Also, the BURST wallet, has an "AT automated transactions" function in which you can add code. Problem is, I do not understand all this yet, what kind of code has to be inserted there?

yes, that's how it works:
http://altsheets.ddns.net/img/combined-purchases-calculator.png

... because you want to input the new altcoin total (here 13.00), and the new average buy price (here 0.03846).

And with Ctrl-Shift-V you can paste the values only (keyboard-shortcut for: Edit ... paste special ... paste values only)

By the way:
The far future could also have an option for APIkey&secret input (needs more trust, though),

No, different story, completely different. The other way around - it would give me some control, over their trading account.

Have a look at e.g. https://poloniex.com/apiKeys = the way to get information about your trading account at poloniex.

The huge advantage for our question:  If you give me your poloniex API key & secret, I can get your current coin balances
--> import them into AltFolio.future.version, all done fully automatic. Coin balances would update as soon as you buy or sell coins.

(needs more trust, though)
I mentioned trust because altFolio.future.version users would have to trust me with their API key & secret.

At the moment there is no conceivable way that I could do real harm to my AltFolio users
- but for such an automated access to their trading accounts, my users would have to trust me more ... than is necessary now.

P.S.: The REAL thing would be to build some kind of HZ wallet wich has the functions of your sheet. ... What programming language is used to build those wallets? Java?
Yes, the HZ backend is Java, the HZ frontend is HTML+Javascript.
Other wallets (e.g. bitcoin, and all of its clones, like DOGE, and SDC etc.) are done in C++.

Also, the BURST wallet, has an "AT automated transactions" function in which you can add code. Problem is, I do not understand all this yet, what kind of code has to be inserted there?
No idea. Just googled a bit. At first glance, screenshots of BURST look like just-another-Nxt-clone. Ask them in their thread (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=731923.0), I'd suggest.

(I told you to have a look at the SuperNet NXT wallet, it has some interesting etended functions in terms of asset administration, dividends, polls and decentralized exchange.
Yes. Had no chance to look at it, yet.  But thx for the hint! Hope to find time for it ...

MJcoins special - screenshot

http://altsheets.ddns.net/img/AltFolio_420-special_20150414-1802.png

Which MJcoins will pump for 420 - what is your guess?

Above is data of an "ideal buying" scenario,
in which I assume a trading genius would have correctly guessed
the (recent) bottom of each of the 7 MJcoins,
and then bought 0.1 BTC each, at that lowest price.
That is why all are in the plus now, in this picture.

April 20th is in 6 days - so what is your guess:
Will any of these go up? Which one?
Who of you is trying to score?

Disclaimer: I am not saying it will happen - I am just asking whether it might happen

:-)

---

EDIT: This is based on the observation that all 7 MJcoins pumped shortly before 20/10/2014, and some around 20/4/2014. But also see this (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=978804.msg11093455#msg11093455) posting.

If this is the case, I have to tell you, this idea is completely unrealistic! I would never do this and never recommend this to anyone - on the contrary! Such level of trust might exist within a family, or between best friends or a couple. Or in a company between the owner and only the highest financial or IT security executives, and even then it would be secured by some mechanisms and contracts, and the people know each other personally, see them every day, know their addresses etc. No way such a thing would be possible with your software. Well, if you find someone who does it, I might call that person crazy...

(I'm sorry, I am not saying that you are not trustworthy, but really, life experience, and even more: internet experience should have taught every reasonable and sane person that this is not adviseable.)

Yes, isn't it? Happy to tell.
I have been programming for a long time, but API access to data has revolutionized how I think about the internet.

But something shocked me:
By the way:

No.

Have a look:

https://i.imgur.com/w2EehIG.png (https://i.imgur.com/w2EehIG.png)

If this is the case, I have to tell you, this idea is completely unrealistic! I would never do this and never recommend this to anyone - on the contrary! (I'm sorry, I am not saying that you are not trustworthy, but really, life experience, and even more: internet experience should have taught every reasonable and sane person that this is not adviseable.)

All not relevant.

Again, and to be 100% clear: No. I would NOT get COMPLETE CONTROL over the user's account, e.g. including withdraw coins from there.

But your reaction is exactly what I meant - so we have a very good live example now.
Even if I would technically not be able to do what you suspected ... a user could immediately get panicky, paranoid, and run into a distrust spiral.

So the (huge!) advantage of fully automatic updates about all coin balances ... are weighed down by fear in less informed users.

But that is only one argument, not the full case.
I would still like to implement it into a far.future.version of AltFolio. Make it an optional gimmick.
But as it is a lot of work (it has to be done separately for each of the 8 exchanges) ... it's future music, anyways.

TL;DR: Just to be clear, for a quick readers:
PrivateAPI access is NOT part of the current AltFolio version.
Coin balances are updated manually.

yes, the October 2014 data is clear. All 7 MJcoins pumped ... until just before 20/10/2014.
April 2014 not so clear. But that is probably mainly because on 2014 April 20th, some were still young, or did not existed at all.

Good idea, we have the answer:

It was all due to the CANN whales pumping it when the first dispensary started accepting CANNdy for crypto on Oct. 20 2014.

OK, got it, sorry for misunderstanding - but again a thing which you can make easily clear to users. If they want to give you that trust, is another thing. If it would be an option, they could choose. Maybe just manually putting in the required password each time they want to. And if they later distrust your software with that, maybe it is possible for them to just change the pass at Poloniex?

If they want to give you that trust, is another thing. If it would be an option, they could choose. Maybe just manually putting in the required password each time they want to. And if they later distrust your software with that, maybe it is possible for them to just change the pass at Poloniex?
yes, exactly. All true.

Interesting graphs, how did you do the second one? I don't seem to understand this (I understand the first).
"Stacked".
i.e. at each x-position, all the y-positions are added up, on top of each other.

In this type of graph, you can easily see how much these 7 coins moved in unisono. If all peaks had been at the exact same moment, then the maximum would have been 7 = 700%

  STV: +0.07293827 BTC
MARYJ: +0.07378937 BTC

BTC total:
0.120546814

EDIT: newer version 23/4/2015 = print #trades; only show when #trades>0; cleaning up sourcecode

All trading fees are already included. The small amounts (like "+0.0100 altcoin") are withdrawal fees when I transferred coins from one exchange to the other.

As you can see above, I had some STV and MARYJ still lying around, which I had probably bought on ccex, long ago (and ccex is not implemented yet). Really happy to have finally been able to sell them. Subtract circa 0.06 BTC for those ...

... and I end up with an amazing 13 dollars plus in total :-) At least not a minus, which considering the big losses in CCN is actually a surprise to me. I had bought CCN much too late, when it was already expensive, and then I did not sell them early enough.

Looks like 410 is the new 420.

Anyways, the main message of the above is not "Yey, profits!" ... but that I have started my first quickNdirty attempts at parsing the privateAPI output now. Of course, it only works when I provide my personal APIkey and APIsecret for each of the exchanges.

Now really useful helper software becomes possible. Automatic profit calculations, and even across exchanges - pretty cool, ain't it?  ;)

I am not sure yet how to call this module. Work in progress name is "tradesgetter.py", but probably it should better be called "privapi.py".

Post by: altsheets on April 23, 2015, 05:15:38 PM
This is the present version of AltFolio:
PrivateAPI access is NOT part of the current AltFolio version. Coin balances are updated manually.

This is conceivable for a future version:
If you give me your poloniex API key & secret, I can get your current coin balances
--> import them into AltFolio.future.version, all done fully automatic.
Coin balances would update as soon as you buy or sell coins.
(for security/trust issues, also see this posting (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=978804.msg11093429#msg11093429)).

And now, with this recent breakthrough ...
Successful 1st attempt at privateAPI access ...be called "privapi.py".

... I have today done the first baby step into that direction.

Much work because every exchange API is a little different. But me, I wanted to see how to do it - so here is a small preview, I have finished the first one, bittrex.

Sample output:

~0.4252 BTC:     361.2002 COV     @ 0.00117716 BTC/coin (not-in-orders     124.6582, pending       0.0000)
~0.2603 BTC:   16796.7700 QTL     @ 0.00001550 BTC/coin (not-in-orders    8600.7800, pending       0.0000)
~0.1091 BTC:   15585.9375 NIRO    @ 0.00000700 BTC/coin (not-in-orders   15585.9375, pending       0.0000)
~0.0657 BTC:   69879.0000 BAY     @ 0.00000094 BTC/coin (not-in-orders   69879.0000, pending       0.0000)
~0.0001 BTC:   10000.0000 ECASH   @ 0.00000001 BTC/coin (not-in-orders   10000.0000, pending       0.0000)

Yes, QTL has crossed the 1500 Satoshi price, first time in ages. Wondering when the next Quatloo Trader version comes out. Who believes in NIRO?
I don't know why I still keep on hodling my BAY ... the hot coin at the moment definitely COV! N.B.: Do your own research. Trading can mean loosing all.

Now, getting this information automatically onto my dataserver is a big step, but only half of the game - how to get the results into the AltFolio GoogleSheet is another challenge. Plus your APIsecret is so hypersensitive, that it needs quite some more caution from the user's side, too. Just to be 100% clear --> I might not implement this into AltFolio in the near future.

AltFolio is already quite functional in the current version. Input all your coin balances once manually is a few minutes - the later updates take only seconds.

AltSheets B.E.E.f.A

copy of my 4 postings  in the HZ thread (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=823785.msg11744396#msg11744396)

Block explorer extension for asset

feature request 2:
block explorer page for assets

https://explorer.horizonplatform.io/?page=asset&id=8101260088962758269
--> "could not find template views/templates/asset.phtml"
If you send me an example, I am offering to build that page for you/us/everyone.

e.g. the views/templates/transaction.phtml (?) the file that generates
https://explorer.horizonplatform.io/?page=transaction&id=8101260088962758269

The advantage would be that every asset has a page with the most basic information about it.
At the moment there is only the "complete list" https://explorer.horizonplatform.io/?page=assets but with no extra information.

Anyone wants to pledge some crowd bounty for it?

Altsheets, after your previous posting about the asset transaction deficit prompted me to examine the leading NXT explorers (my fav has been https://nxtblocks.info/ which much to my dismay I just learned is shutting-down - announcement on their homepage) it occurred to me that this indeed appears to be a needed extension of the Horizon explorer. Therefore if the community sees fit to crowdfund that I would support it. Thx.

I'd love to see that work out. Will publish the source these days!

Thanks, mavigro, for supporting of my idea. Such feedback is honey for my soul :-)

And thanks, pharesim, for the code, and helping me to install it on my server, great!

As usual, and like many times before, I am disappointed that almost no one reacted to this:

Anyone wants to pledge some crowd bounty for it?

... but that seems to reflect the state of the crypto subculture. Egoistic.

Money has a very bad influence on the otherwise beautiful human soul.
We should consider as a species ... if we can afford to stick to capitalism as such.

However, the lack of donations ... has not kept me from doing it ! And ...

YIEHAH, I SUCCEEDED!

  • I installed the existing source code (creating a mini manual for it (https://github.com/altsheets/hz-blockexplorer/blob/master/prepareServer.sh)),
and ran the backend (took ~36 hours on my small droplet!)

  • Then today, "learnt PHP (https://twitter.com/altsheets/status/615379388679483392)" for it.
And deciphered the existing code structure, whew.

  • and then implemented my new page asset.phtml,
and extended it with many useful little ideas, and improvements.

keep tuned ...

Block Explorer Extension for Assets ...
B.E.E.f.A - quick start:

So that you can see live what I have coded, I put it on a
(weak!) server of mine (only until it will be  pulled upstream).

  • web page: proper asset http://188.226.155.38:8080/hzbe/?page=asset&id=8101260088962758269
  • web page: wrong asset id http://188.226.155.38:8080/hzbe/?page=asset&id=0

  • json api: proper asset http://188.226.155.38:8080/hzbe/api.php?page=asset&id=8101260088962758269

Isn't that great?

-->

Now you can get the issuance information (including the text description)
for all HZ assets (https://explorer.horizonplatform.io/?page=assets), just by changing that long 19-digits id number in the above URL.

Try it out - e.g. post links to your favorite asset here ...

B.E.E.f.A - quick start: ...
Block explorer extension for assets
Suggestion: Warnings about certain assets

In the past there have already been discussions about blacklisting assets - which I do not want to repeat here. Me personally, I am strongly opposed to any kind of censorship. "Caveat emptor (Buyer beware)" is a more grown up concept than the childish "Consumer protection by censorship and prohibition". A good option is whitelisting assets (see the HZ "trusted assets (https://horizonplatform.io/category/trusted-horizon-assets/)" page), but there are yet only 4, and I always thought ...

... "what about all the other 100+ HZ assets out there"?
That is why I built my extension asset.phtml.

I would want it to always display all assets ... scam, test, or proper ... regardless. What is on the blockchain, gets reported!

But still -especially where without any doubts- I consider ADDITIONAL information is appropriate ... if a certain asset should rather not be bought. Good thinking?

So this is what I coded, to implement a first approximation of that idea:

asset warnings

Some assets are known to be test assets, or revoked (by the issuer), or even scams (perhaps, probably or proven scams).

However, the (too) centralized power of the only official block explorer ... needs a balance between user protection and issuer protection (and censorship is bad)!

So with my new 'asset.phtml' extension ... all assets are still shown - but in some cases with a clear warning.

All is hardcoded into an XML file.
I urge the team to always link back to a forum post where detailed explanations are given, and can be discussed - so that e.g. the issuer gets a chance to react to the suspicion.

examples for the different warnings:

  • test asset http://188.226.155.38:8080/hzbe/?page=asset&id=5903523947573024709
clearly intended to be only a test

  • revoked asset http://188.226.155.38:8080/hzbe/?page=asset&id=16661902544444460183
revoked by the issuer = he asked for it, with emphasis (click the 'explanations' link at the bottom!)

  • perhaps scam http://188.226.155.38:8080/hzbe/?page=asset&id=3
there must be a heavy suspicion before using this!
  • probably scam http://188.226.155.38:8080/hzbe/?page=asset&id=4
almost sure, not many doubts left.
  • proven scam http://188.226.155.38:8080/hzbe/?page=asset&id=5
    definitely no doubts.

To be totally clear:
Almost all assets will show none of those warnings
- because they are intended to be, and run as proper assets.

What do you think about that suggested system?

P.S.:
This whole "warnings" function is already coded now,
but it can be easily ignored completely. My extension works well without filling in (https://github.com/altsheets/hz-blockexplorer/blob/master/data/assetwarnings.xml.empty) that 'assetwarnings.xml (https://github.com/altsheets/hz-blockexplorer/blob/master/data/assetwarnings.xml)'.
If you find it too much to worry about for now ... just go back to the "quick start" posting above (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=823785.msg11744396#msg11744396) now.

https://explorer.horizonplatform.io/?page=account&id=12846730982802002083 --> CURRENT HORIZON BALANCE: 3,310 HZ
but the same account when id given as RS account number is shown as:
https://explorer.horizonplatform.io/?page=account&id=NHZ-Q675-SGBG-LQ43-D38L6 --> CURRENT HORIZON BALANCE: 0 HZ

Solved:
This is on my (temporary!) server where I run my block-explorer-fork code:
http://188.226.155.38:8080/hzbe/?page=account&id=12846730982802002083 --> CURRENT HORIZON BALANCE: 3,310 HZ
http://188.226.155.38:8080/hzbe/?page=account&id=NHZ-Q675-SGBG-LQ43-D38L6 --> CURRENT HORIZON BALANCE: 3,310 HZ

Code change suggested in commit: "fixed zero balance bug when accountRS"
https://github.com/altsheets/hz-blockexplorer/commit/e9434d62a52d5fa464f4ef95fbb8931b888befd6

Bug fixed!
You can study my giveback license v04 (http://altsheets.ddns.net/give/) for how to support useful people like me
or ... TL;DR - simply send me some HZ to: NHZ-Q675-SGBG-LQ43-D38L6  Thanks.

Congrats champ.
Looking forward on the polished version.
Thanks a lot.

Let's get that going (https://nxtforum.org/index.php?topic=9794.0). <-- Today did research on licenses & crowdfunding.

A few days ago, I had an idea how a direct monetization could work;
at 5:19 a.m. in the morning. Immediately was wide awake, and started
scribling, and researching tools. Hope to soon find time to start coding it .

I have to consider all routes that money can take, to come my way. New
profile at gratipay (https://gratipay.com/altsheets/) (they support BTC) - new & shiny (http://altsheets.ddns.net/give/) gratipay button :-)

Studying day. Found the coolest project ever (https://www.startjoin.com/spacelift), and read interesting pages.
e.g.: AltFolio (http://altfolio.ddns.net/) is partly OpenSource (frontend & its GoogleAppsScript), and
partly SaaS (Software as a service) (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Software_as_a_service): GoogleSheets itself and my own
dataserver that collects & caches & standardizes data from the exchanges,
provides the serialcode licensing system, etc. Stallman, forgive me please ;-)

Yesterday was great, too. I almost finished a new spreadsheet, that analyzes &
presents voting poll results (our nxthacks voting as starting point.). Stay tuned.

EDIT:
You can now post in a new supporters thread (https://nxtforum.org/index.php?topic=9798.0), intended
to gather some momentum to carry this into the future.

Big News for AltFolio:
New Dataserver!

Not without a reason ( ... mysterious insinuation ...) I have
put a giant ton of work into the AltFolio dataserver backend:

A new, shiny, secure & fast server, which I completely rebuilt.

Upgraded to newest security, and Debian8, with 6 intermediate snapshots,
** base system, security measures
** bash, profile, scripts, configurations
** python django uwsgi nginx testproject
** app config, migrated app, run as user
** webserver config, migrated www pages,
** chaincountdown (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1147294.0) is now perfectly insulated in docker
** when all ready, hammer_server.py measurements (http://altsheets.ddns.net/altfolio/hammer-server.txt):
*** different droplets worldwide & uwsgi settings, chose "New York 2"
** perfect plan for DNS switching, copied & backuped everything.

It went smooth - with minimum downtime!

And tonight, I was finally ready. What a relief. A mountain of work is behind me.

Actually, I have learned so much in these days, that I may be able to help you (http://altsheets.ddns.net/advice),
if any of the above questions are on your plate. Linux whole stack - yippieh!

And while I was on it, I had many ideas for the AltFolio dataserver APP itself, and
made many little improvements, upgraded my "hammer_server.py" tool, etc.
For really technical people ... see history.txt (http://altsheets.ddns.net/altfolio/history.txt) - then please share your thoughts...!

Bottom line:
I have done some tests with my own sheetcopy. It seems to run even better.
Faster & less missing values - I have not repeated pressing "update" even once!

Now the avalanche of new AltFolio (http://altfolio.ddns.net) users can come ...

CointelegraphDE article about AltFolio (http://altfolio.ddns.net/)!
http://altsheets.ddns.net/pr/cointelegraph/CointelegraphDE_ArticleSquare_withCTlogo_200perc-20150904_0740x0888.png (http://altsheets.ddns.net/pr/cointelegraph/)
Beautiful -and very accurate- interview:

  • History & backgrounds
  • Architecture: frontend vs backend
  • Dataserver tech, supported exchanges
  • How easy it is to combine purchases!
  • AltFolio can benefit which type of traders?
  • Reactions, marketing, reseller bonus, web presence

I even showed it to my old mother :-) It is that well readable.
Original article (http://cointelegraph.de/news/115179/altfolio-das-managementtool-f%C3%BCr-altcoin-trader) is in German, I am providing an English translation (http://altsheets.ddns.net/pr/cointelegraph/).

This is an important moment for me, to now be present in one of
the most popular (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1036263.msg11176750#msg11176750) crypto newspapers. I actually rebuilt the whole
dataserver (above (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=978804.msg12322911#msg12322911)), for hosting the extra users safely & reliably.

And I already got very useful feedback. Thx!

Can you to help me a bit now?

Getting people's attention for this useful tool ... has become easier now.

BLOCK EXPLORER for Ethereum clones

After BTC, then LTC, later NXT and cryptonotes ... now an ETH cloning wave might hit the scene.

Here is a simple -but well working- BLOCK EXPLORER,

that I learned to understand -inside out-, then extended with essential functions -

and that I can port to your Ethereum clone:

https://i.imgur.com/iu6vyvD.png (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1181547)

As I can act fast, it is especially valuable for the first days of a new clone.
Later then, you can get e.g. a second B.E., or build your own one from scratch.

(Idea for how to get money (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1181547#post_crowdbounty) together).

Contact me for details, and see my new thread (with MANY PICTURES) (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1181547).

Back from Holidays!

https://i.imgur.com/cwsPFDX.jpg

Really looking forward to coding, posting, writing, and earning again.
Stay tuned - two beautiful projects are in the making.

 ;)

Good things can so easily be harmed by bad mood. Seen that too many times.

Posting this here, because I sense an analogy between bitcointalk trolls,
and un-therapized slave job patients on a TUI plane ...

Package tourism

It was my 1st package tourism (Pauschal-Reise) in > 20 years.
(Since back then once, I had always been a self-responsible traveler; a stonier, and harder path,
but more rewarding. And it educates you, and allows your consciousness to grow and expand).

Man, I was shocked:  So many package tourists can be terrible whiners. Poor them.
Every little obstacle, misunderstanding, disappointment ... is reason to go berzerk.

And later, checking online comments about our cozy hotel, I was appalled;
there is a large group who wrote such a bullshit about that beautiful place;
that was simply untrue, FUD, lies, and negativity. They are confusing their own
illness tainted view on the world with the objects they think they are describing.

Being able to always see the worst aspects of the world around them, and their
fellow patients. And it's only them who keep themselves unhappy, while they point
to the outside world to be the reason for their uncontrolled emotions. Powerlessness.

They are seemingly really unable to escape from their mental cage. And unwilling?

The word I need is: Ugly.
Mankind is   Rich countries are really in a pitiful state. -->

Sarcastic joke 1
"Successful Capitalism is a ..."
EDIT: deleted, those suffering from this affliction do not deserve to be compared to economics.
;-)

Sarcastic joke 2

The customs could consider to refuse entry into a beautiful holiday country
for those who are professional FUDers everywhere, and stamp their passports:

"
Sorry, but you must first go to a hotel in your own country for 1, 2, or 3 days
(depending on the severity of their affliction), to let go of your accumulated hatred ...
... before you only focus on spoiling your own, and everyone else's experience.
Entry refused, for x days. Please come back, we love to meet you again - relaxed.
"

*g*

Plenty of Positivity in Place

But still, myself I had an unforgettable holiday week. The longest time away from
the keyboard in ages, and I immediately clicked, and turned social, it was beautiful.
I was also able to find, and meet the minority; some people have come far, and
are amazing encounters. They are good teachers, discussion partners, joy givers, and
sources of wisdom, beauty, freedom, and creativity.  We are just so damn few.

What now?
How could more people liberate themselves from their personal hell?  I am puzzled,
more than ever. Should psychotherapy become obligatory in high school perhaps?

And what now ... does all that tell us about posting on internet forums?

My above rant is not about this following tip of the iceberg, more about the vast amount of highly unhappy people in rich countries (most of who are rather self-harming, and passive aggressive, but they then also spoil the experience for their environment), and who are proving (besides the ecological mess, gross inequality, and perpetual war) that our economic system is poison.

This post here is about the extreme cases of unhappiness. I give this short addendum, because by chance I came across a data-driven examination of the worst case scenario, when ~3% of users got eventually even banned for their utterances:

Antisocial Behavior in Online Discussion Communities (http://arxiv.org/pdf/1504.00680.pdf)
Justin Cheng, Cristian Danescu-Niculescu-Mizil, Jure Leskovec (Stanford University, Cornell University)

Three aspects when browsing through it:

  • They establish a high predictive power (with their automatic language analysis system) who might be later get banned:
"With these features in mind, we consider a prediction task where we observe a user’s first ten posts [...] we can accurately predict whether a user will be subsequently banned with a mean AUC of 0.82 (mean accuracy=0.74, mean F1=0.71)". (Page 8 )
    Impressive.

  • "... posts written by FBUs are less readable [...], and differ in affective content such as swearing ..." (page 8 )

  • Troll (FBU) posts usually get a much higher reply rate than non-troll (NBU) posts (page 5).

Ignoring affective content might be the best move to protect ourselves. We guessed it intuitively, now science is starting to prove it.

--> "Don't feed the troll (https://spreaditout.files.wordpress.com/2015/02/internet-troll-by-woody-hearn.jpg).".

AltFolio new version v52.01

Bug fix (thx to Kushed for finding it!)

v52:
* GoogleScript must have changed something in the way
that formula cells are treated (versus data cells)
    --> "insert-one-more-row" now results in
all column updates not working anymore.
* The fix is emptying the 6 respective new cells now.

Existing users:
Get a new copy of the mastersheet (the SAFER way!)

OR (for experts  ;) )
Overwrite only the Script code with the v52.01 code

Menu ... Tools ... Script Editor ...
copypaste the whole "altsheets-scripts.gs" into your old 51.10

I just couldn't accept this trouble :-) https://twitter.com/altsheets/status/694183057474068480

So I have implemented an alternative now, and done some time measurements:

comparing access to bittrex DOGE price: getticker?market= versus getmarketsummaries

Code:
7.1e-07 7.1e-07 7.1e-07 7.1e-07 7.1e-07 7.1e-07 7.1e-07 7.1e-07 7.1e-07 7.1e-07
10 times single market call took: 4.34

7.1e-07 7.1e-07 7.1e-07 7.1e-07 7.1e-07 7.1e-07 7.1e-07 7.1e-07 7.1e-07 7.1e-07
10 times getmarketsummaries call and single market extraction took: 4.44

sometimes the big call is even faster:
Code:
7.1e-07 7.1e-07 7.1e-07 7.1e-07 7.1e-07 7.1e-07 7.1e-07 7.1e-07 7.1e-07 7.1e-07
10 times single market call took: 4.62

7.1e-07 7.1e-07 7.1e-07 7.1e-07 7.1e-07 7.1e-07 7.1e-07 7.1e-07 7.1e-07 7.1e-07
10 times getmarketsummaries call and single market extraction took: 3.73

So I guess, I am switching to /getmarketsummaries - even though it is the much more massive return object.

And because I am Caching all results it will save time when prices for several coins are pulled from bittrex.

Code:
print "comparing access to bittrex DOGE price: getticker?market= versus getmarketsummaries"
import timeit
T=timeit.default_timer
b=T()
for i in xrange(10):
    print askBittrex("DOGE"),
print "\n10 times single market call took:", T()-b

b=T()
for i in xrange(10):
    t=askBittrexForTicker()
    p=selectPriceFromBittrexTicker(ticker=t, acronym="DOGE")
    print p,
print "\n10 times getmarketsummaries call and single market extraction took:", T()-b

:-)

Some of my SOIL contributions

Useful SOIL manuals
Quick overview about some of my posts:

  • Soil on Linux / in the cloud / via github (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1176709.msg12724637#msg12724637).
  • Upgrading to newer sourcecode (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1176709.msg13306200#msg13306200) is easy then, last upgrade to 1.4.0 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1176709.msg13734463#msg13734463).

  • my JSRE commands for easier handling of the gsoil attach client (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1176709.msg13456358#msg13456358) will work on any OS, just    loadScript("altsheets.js")
  • I have joined the stats node information service (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1176709.msg13492639#msg13492639), incl. how to upgrade.
  • Using my first ever smart contract: SOILfaucet - contract version (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1176709.msg13507539#msg13507539).

  • I mention the WTB/WTS soil thread (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1213614.0) (with those fabulous diagrams (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1213614.msg12756825#msg12756825)) only for historians, but hey - that was a lot of fun (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1213614.msg12777328#msg12777328), no?
(Actually, here are even older posts (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1176709.msg13183600#msg13183600) of me on and around SOIL)

  • ABEESOIL block explorer extensions:
Launch (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1176709.msg13409692#msg13409692), History & Screenshots (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1181547.msg13409403#msg13409403), pages (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1176709.msg13409796#msg13409796) to explore, background research (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1176709.msg13536729#msg13536729) about ethereum API and uncle rewards.

May those resources help you with SOIL.

and quickie on my Other projects

Perhaps you are interested in some of my other projects?

  • AltFolio (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=978804.msg13542852#msg13542852) - keeps a price-updated overview of your AltCoin portfolio, and value, with price data from 11 exchanges, and market data from CMC.
  • My recent PeerExplorer (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=823785.msg13656056#msg13656056) is only one example for my many projects in HZ. I created cool network graphics of the whole network of wallet nodes (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1147294.msg13674800#msg13674800).
  • ... the latter is a subproject to improve my ChainCountDown image server (https://github.com/altsheets/chaincountdown) - which I could actually one day port the SOIL too, if anyone's interested.
  • The most beautiful is AssetGraphs-v2 (http://altsheets.ddns.net/assetgraphs/v2/products/) - a new approach for a GUInterface; understand your own complex data intuitively better. Press "Start PRODUCT (http://altsheets.ddns.net/assetgraphs/v2/products/#product2)" to see it live.

I would like to try your product

I've checked coinfinance, cryptotrack and cointracking and they are all bs.

Few q

Bleutrade, Cryptopia and Yobit exchange coins included?

Can I add more columns and more graphs to the sheet?

Good. Trial is free: http://altfolio.ddns.net

Yes. That is why I had started building my own.

And my solution is most flexible, as you can configure it freely,
the frontend is your personal copy of my master spreadsheet.
Powerful - and still easy for noobs, as I colorcoded it all by function.

Yes, API-accessed are all the BTC pairs from
   bittrex
   bleutrade
   btce
   bter
   ccex
   cryptopia
   cryptsy
   hitbtc
   poloniex
   yobit

plus for fiat
   bitstamp
   btce
   kraken
   hitbtc

And if you miss your favorite exchange, I can implement it. Happy about donations for that.

More graphs?
Yes please, I'd be very interested to see what you come up with!

More columns to add?
First of all: Yes, definitely. Easily.

However, at the moment, the automatic columns are hardcoded, so to keep their function alive
they cannot be moved left or right. Still, no problem - there are ways to introduce other columns:

EITHER use the empty columns T or AE and behind - that is the easiest.

OR use some of the balance columns D-J, and change the sums in K - that is quick, and gives you 7 more columns.

OR add a sheet (+), and import my data via   =Portfolio!p6   etc. - that is the most flexible
OR make a new file, and use    =importrange(id,"Portfolio!n6:q8")   - that is the most advanced, and allows sharing

OR tell me which other functions you need - and I might perhaps implement them.

Perspective: If more people are doing their own mashup of my frontend layout,
I could implement a version, in which the automatic columns are not hardcoded,
but searched for, and recognized by an anchor. So you see:

Lots of possibilities, and all say:

Yes.

 ;)

Definitely, it sounds good to me!! :)

No need of more exchanges.

A lot of posibilities with columns, so I'll find one I can manage.

The graphs I would like to add are:

Related to new columns:
- Where do I save them (Exchange, wallet or hardwallet)
- Where do I save them_2 (Which exchange, where is the wallet, which hardwallet)
- Mail used to create the account (1,2,3,4,5)
- Market cap

Lots of interesting ideas, thanks!

Sounds as if you are looking for a database where
you can store all the information related to each of your coins.

Parts of the questions you are pondering ... are already implemented (e.g. marketcap rank).

I'll try out this night :)

Yes please.

Fully check out what AltFolio (http://altfolio.ddns.net) is offering already
- try out all the functions in the ALTFOLIO-MENU.

Then it is easier to talk.

Have fun with it!

I already got that database but I hate updating it.

I'l post some pics so you can see how data is organized.

Is there anyway to link your server with my database or I have to move my database to your doc?

On my dataserver logs, I can see that you have connected your sheetcopy
with the dataserver, and already input your first coinnames - very good.

That is, by the way, everything that I can know about your portfolio
* the coin names, and * your choice of exchanges where to pull the data from.

(I cannot see your balances, as the sheetcopy is your personal copy where
only you have access. Just wanted to clarify that. I am privacy aware myself.)

Sounds as if you are looking for a database where
you can store all the information related to each of your coins.

I already got that database but I hate updating it.

And with "updating" ... you mean the current last price, or the trading volume, or the last 7hours price change?

Yes, that is what AltFolio (http://altfolio.ddns.net) is really useful for.

I'l post some pics so you can see how data is organized.
Cool. Interesting to see how people organize their knowledge.

However, if it contains personal data, better send it by email.

Is there anyway to link your server with my database or I have to move my database to your doc?
As usual, there are many ways to do it.
Depends a bit on the details, and goals.

Is your database also a GoogleSheet?

Perhaps then you can try to use the IMPORTRANGE function.
That way, you do not have to change the AltFolio GoogleSheet at all, and thus avoid breaking it.

But you can still pull the data out.

Please read this help page: https://support.google.com/docs/answer/3093340

I can also build a custom thing for you. Let's discuss that by email.

 :D

Nice one. Keep it up.
Yes, I know - I am on to something there.

Data driven trading is helping my own trading much,
to avoid bad trades,
to react faster
to not to overlook and miss opportunities,
to keep an overview of my portfolio,
etc.

- and AltFolio is the publicly available part. To share parts of
my creations with other users - is making that product better.

Keep updating it and you won't go wrong.
Help me to sell it more often ;-)  then I can afford the time to upgrade it more.
Next thing I am trying out right now is a daily history function, so that
I can later see how it actually happened when I got to my first million  ;-D

Looks like the start of something very good :)

Very nice -

Do not use the old donation addresses anymore

So cool.

Sorry for not answering earlier. Busy winter.

I'm using this service and it working fine for me.
Great, I am happy. Thanks for posting!

PM me, and I'll gift you a serial extension.

Perhaps you also want to tweet/facebook (https://twitter.com/altsheets/status/827604565210050560) about  altfolio.ddns.net?  Are you interested in a reseller bonus?

why there no more people using it?  ???

That is a puzzling question for myself too.

I have powerusers who have queried my dataserver already more than 100,000 times.

Probably there is some "spreadsheet fear" illness out there :-) But I think I did a good job at making it as easy as possible.

People are using it. I am using it. It has not caught on virally though.
I offer reseller bonus, PM me if you are good at selling SaaS.

The CMC part is offline at the moment, because the data intermediary I had been using for years,
to get preformatted CMC data, is suddenly offline, and does not seem to come back up.
The only choice I have now, is rebuild that part of the API fetchers. Which I will do ASAP.

GoogleSheets has introduced a new layer of "security", so initially it takes a few
more clicks to authenticate my code to be allowed to run and call my backend server;
but that needs to be done only once, so no big issue.
Sometimes GoogleSheets is failing, and that creates hickups in my frontend
- but as that is on Google's side, I cannot do anything but ask for patience until they are back on track.

Other than that, all is working well. Especially the Python Dataserver backend.
There have been literally hundreds of thousands of calls to my server.
I am impressed myself at how stable it runs.
Today I have just restarted the whole dataserver - it had been running flawlessly for 248 days.

Are you using AltFolio yourself?

Wanna try?   http://altfolio.ddns.net

Translate the USD price yourself.

Frankly, didn't try it...I was just checking for portfolio app that could pull data directly from API

If that "pull data directly from API" is about updated prices, change24, volume, CMC-rank, etc. - then you have found your solution. A solution, at least.

My system has two components:

- the frontend is a GoogleSheets spreadsheet, with additional GoogleScript functions to do cool stuff

- a dataserver backend which can compile data from many different sources, and concurrently.

The second was necessary, because every exchange has a different API format, and because GoogleSheets just collapsed under the load of too many concurrent requests.
