The market seems to be saturated at this point in time with the amount of physical coins out there. Despite this I was looking into starting to Mint my own coins.
The coins would be funded and would have a balance of around 0.1-1btc. I'm hoping to be able to mint 50-100 coins if your response is decent.

Specs would hopefully be something like 1.5" or 1.75". I'm hoping to mint about 10 gold finished coins 80 silver and possibly copper/brass for the rest.
If it's feasible I'll try to get the coins to have an epoxy finish. I'll either have a velvet box or a plastic slab to present and hold the coin.
Regarding the hologram, I haven't thought up on anything yet. I'm not even sure that if I can get somebody here to make them for me. I'll try my best however.
I have no ideas for designs yet but I can think of something that would look beautiful, hopefully something to compete with kialara? :D

There's a 50/50 chance of me doing this, If I am able to free up enough time after my studies I would do this.

Any comments? Or feedback regarding the title?

I would like clam on a physical coin, also any coin made of gold would be great.

Actually, that's not such a bad idea. I'd rather go down the road of altcoins for now since it may prove to be a little cheaper and feasible.
It won't be a solid gold coin, it would have a gold finish.

Well if you need help with it try jd you could get an idea of what a clam looks like :P.

If it's feasible and not too expensive I'll probably get it in the shape of the logo of the Alt or in this case a clam shell.

I collect physical coins, so I would be interested in one of each finish.  Not sure how I feel about Clams though.  You want to appeal to a large audience.  If looking only at alts, also consider Dark, Etherium or something popular.

Sure I would. It would have to be a flawless finish though with attention to details. It would also have to be not too cheap and not too expensive, I'd say $50 for a coin with enough gold would be around what I'd pay. And like someone else said, popular coins would be more appealing than obscure ones.

I would buy a physical Bitcoin or Litecoin.
Most people us price as a decisive factor when buying physical coins though.
If your premium isn't too high and the coin itself is well designed and high quality, you should have no problem selling them.

A solid gold coin would be ridiculously expensive. I'd also think about not funding them yourself. Doesn't that leave the people who own them to trust you not to have made a back up of the private keys? I'd design something like Silver Wallets have so people can fund the coins themselves.

I agree that Bitcoin or Litecoin are the most mainstream choices.  Clams seems so obscure that you risk having a tiny audience.  I don't see why the alt choice or denomination matters on cost if you go unfunded instead.  Based on your country, there are legal issues to fund these.  I also agree that DIY may be preferable or as an option, so there aren't trust issues.

Use a nice simple clean design with a custom holo if possible.  Keep the price under $50 each.  The lower the better it will sell, as people are very price conscious.

If you offer a few different finishes, many collectors will get one of each.

I'll take a look into various alts and do some research on demand for them. What coins do you collect? Just physical Bitcoins?


Yeah, I was trying to get a price around $45-$60 with some gold finishing. I'd like to have more of a flat design for the coins since I'm a minimalist person. Regarding the obscure coins, I won't go full out on them. If I ever do decide to do mint some dedicated to them, I probably won't manufacture a lot.

I'm hoping to have it have a fair selling price. Litecoin seems like a viable option since there isn't as many coins available.

As much as I'd like to produce a solid gold coin, I wouldn't be able to do it as it would be hard for me to get the amount of gold required for the coin. It is too expensive which is another reason for why I wouldn't produce one.

If people won't trust me with the private keys then they shouldn't be looking into purchasing the coin. I'd prefer to make a coin wallet much like Silver Wallets, but from what I notice is that people prefer coins that holds a value. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Should I have a cap on the amount of coins I produce or should I just produce indefinitely?

I collect all physical crypto coins, cards etc...regardless if bitcoin or not, but I would prefer bitcoin or at least some mainstream alt.  Not CLAM.

I would limit the mintage, so a collector feels it has some rarity. 

I don't mind whether the coin is funded or not, and probably prefer its not due to trust issues and lower price.

I would personally only buy either physical bitcoins or litecoins, probably won't go with doge or anything unless it's unfunded.

Also, consider how you would generate private keys. People are becoming more and more cautions when handling private keys.

How about a unique paper wallet document that can not be duplicated  and is limited in its production ... that contains public and encrypted private keys......  would anyone buy them???   Why does a physical bitcoin need to be made of a metal..

I thought that crazy woodcollector guy did something with wood bitcoins.

They were round wooden "lasered" art pieces..... very beautiful I may add.......But I don't think they had Public and private keys that were loadable and redeemable

I worked with woodcollector on some prototypes for a wooden physical coin.  I actually have 1 in my possession but haven't completed the engraved private key plates that go inside of it yet.  It's on my to do list.   :P

I wouldn't mind for more physical coins on the market, as long as they're cheap :D Not fan of big gold coins with complex designs...

I don't find paper wallets to be as special as coins.  I don't care for something that can be printed at home and look like a photocopy.  If its done right with unique papers or inks, that's a little better.

YES...nothing like you have ever seen before.... Top notch paper, touch sensitive inks, stamps, embossing seals, holograms, micro threads, hidden UV details.......impossible to replicate , encrypted private key password is tamper evident, one time reveal..... 

I would also be interested in a professionally designed physical paper/card wallet.
If designed correctly, they could look really nice. I recently saw that Zinodaur created one but it seems like the company haven't actually released it as of yet.
Perhaps you could create a mintage of say 100 classic ones with a portrait of someone important in the crypto space.
You could then create smaller limited editions with portraits of other important people.
Your most limited card could depict satoshi (in silhouette) and have a total of only 10 or so with that artwork. I guess as far as private keys go, it'd be the same as any physical wallet.
I'd 100% buy a few 0.1 BTC - 0.25 BTC denominations if the price was right.

I designed a paper wallet with every security feature I could think of....... I did this for my own use...because I didnt like any paper wallets that were printable....I did about 10 different designs, only printed 2 of them in a series of 25 each....... I haven't really wanted to release them here or anywhere for that matter....I didnt think anyone would buy a pre-printed Paper wallet with private keys... If I got enough request , I could do another run of 25 or 50 and sell them here. or If anyone wanted a custom run for them selves...... that could be done also....

I use 2 embossers ..one is the bitcoin logo and another that looks like a corporate seal.....
I also use 2 numbering machines, 1 for the black numbering and 1 for the UV ink numbering....

The paper is 2 factor security paper, It prints VOID when it is copied on a copier, and the 2 factor lines will disappear when you hold a finger on it....
the back of the paper also has water mark lines when its held at the right angle.... The paper will also react to solvents and alcohols, so if the hologram seal is attempted to be removed , the paper turns a brown color..... The paper also glows under Black light unlike regular white paper, and the micro threads become visible.... This paper is expensive!!!!!  Since these 2 series were printed , I have added a few more security features that are not on the pictures.....

If I need to make a new thread for questions and answers and to gauge interest.... just PM me and I will.....I would like to make pre-printed paper wallets popular.... I just didnt think people would buy them do to security /scam issues... Alot of time, thought and money went into these and Im not looking for a scammer tag.....

Very well done on the certificates! The embossing on them is very well done. I'm sure you would get some interest in these.

As far as physical coins go, I collect them and like others have stated here, you really cant go wrong with them.

BG4 those paper wallets look amazing!  Especially the UV one, it's really amazing. Any thread on those? How much would the final product be?

Actually they both have UV effects .... I am starting a week long trip today.....I'll start a thread next Saturday when I get back....I'll also have to get some of my other designs ready to photograph...

I'll still be able to answer questions  via my phone.. but  limited .

I love physical Bitcoins and I would buy one if the price is right. If you need any help, you could contact bigtimespaghetti, he is/was working on a book about minting your own coins.

I would add a color to the bottom embossed wallet in the pic with 3 wallets.  Maybe remove or redo its upper section that has the public and private keys.  I think it looks too generic like it came from bitaddress.org.

BITADDRESS.ORG is what I use to generate and encrypt the keys...... The Idea was to have the area with the addresses and QR codes as clean as can be.... No Folds .....The document is split into 3 not quite equal sections.. The bottom 1/3 gets folded up... then the top 1/3 gets folded down...this created an envelope  ...and the addresses are inside..... the top 2/3 act as a wrapper to protect it ....   So what you have when it's folded up is a 2 sided note with the keys in the middle....

I would prefer Physical bitcoin or else physical Gold coin as both of them are volatile in nature Prices goes up and down but at this stage can afford to invest in it as both has a great future and the best thing is their future  is not on diminishing stage its gonna be higher and higher.

I left this topic for a few days, now I have an essay to read :D. Thanks for the response. I like the idea of unique paper wallets. However, I'll look to see if I can be able to print it on the same type of paper used for cheques. Won't I have to print the private key on it myself though?  Would you guys not look upon that as a security issue?

No.  The paper I use is an anti copy, high security paper... It has a feature that ..when you rub the paper with your finger.. the micro printing disappears .It will prints "Void Unauthorized copy" if it is scanned or copied..also micro threads embedded in the paper that is only seen under ultra violet lignting. Also the paper does not glow under a black light unlike regular copy paper... This is why the graphics pop so bright like they do..
The back of the paper has water mark lines that can be seen at just the right angle..ito stop cut and paste

Edit:  When I release the Mining stock certificate.The top pic.....It will also glow under a black light like the second pic does...

Yes....micro format had the best quality high end paper....I tested all of them....
