Title: [PPC] NothinG's Pool (Beta Testing)
Post by: NothinG on August 23, 2012, 03:33:41 AM
http://46.166.138.142/

This is a Mining Pool for PPC ( http://ppcoin.org/ ).

Expected Changes?
- Fix expected pay-out rate.
- Fix shares per block (now that I've figured out how to check the block information that has been found).

FAQ
-Q-: Why are we not getting paid for our hard work?
-A-: Turns out, the blocks have to hit a minimum of 520 confirmations before the PPC gets sent to the balance.

I'm not sure what else to say. If you have any questions, feel free to ask here. Please don't PM me, you're questions are most likely to be answered more quickly here than by waiting ~6-12 hours on a reply from me.

[NB]: I'm moving the site to Beta stage as theoretically everything will work without anything breaking it (meaning no matter what happens, it is safe to mine without fear of loosing your work).

[Changes]
-8/23/2012-
Added server uptime.
Fixed site-wide shares submitted since our last block was found;
Added "your" shares since last block if you're logged in, as well as the total # of blocks the pool has found so far.

Thank you for working on this and setting it up so quickly with the launch of PPCoins.  I have been mining on ur pool all or yesterday and I will be making a donation to you once the blocks have confirmed and the coins distributed.

Keep up the excellent work my friend :)

Awesome to see a pool of this, and surprised to see that PPCoin network has almost 1/2 a terahash! (Or am I reading that wrong...?)

I tried connecting and I get a lot of "new block on network before longpoll" and I don't any activity on my workers.

Great work, I've been mining on the pool for an hour or so and everything seems to be working fine. Seems like something new has been added every time I visit.

Does it make sense that I've been mining on the pool for 2 hours and I have 9 shares? I am using CGminer and it's telling me over and over "new block detected before longpoll"

How many invalid shares does it show?

Yeah, the main graph is off by a LOT.
I would recommend making assumptions based on average shares per block (which seems to be between ~8-12k).

Thanks. :) I'll be working on the PPC distribution script once I get home.

It shows 8 Valid Shared and 1 Invalid Share. I'm pointing about 1200KH at the pool. And says I am about 88% effecient.

Any ideas?

Are perhaps the stats on the site way off? I am quite surprised to have still done only 8 shares in all this time.

If you really have 1200kh/s = 1,2,h/s your 8 shares are right. Most GPUs average over 350 000kh/s.

I'm confused, I have 3 6950's pointed at it. Am I missing something?

Glad to see there are no Major issues as of now.
I've just gotten back home, and am just not starting to work on the distribution of block payments by shares.

ETA ~ 1-2hours.

[Edit]: Looks like the high server loads are causing some website issues. It looks like the shares are still being parsed normally.
I'll be looking into this once I finish the payout script. Which looks like its going to take some more time than expected. I'll be sure to keep everyone posted.

[Edit2]: Finally got shares from the OLD database distributed into an array. I'm going to compare them to the blocks that are current verified, and start sending out coins. =D

[Edit3]: Wow...that's like the longest I've worked on the script non-stop (well, aside from the occasion post on the forums...). Here in the next ~30-40 minutes, I'll start distribution of the blocks that have their confirmed generation.

7 foreach loops, 6 if statements, 1 while loop.

[Edit~3.1] (Forgot to set the transaction list to >50)
Code:
Block[1410]: Worker(**hidden for security**), Payout(1401.9322871046);

Hi NothinG, please note there is 1 cent per kilobyte required transaction fee for ppcoind, in case you encounter any problems. Let me know if your payout transaction is confirmed, and which block it was included. Appreciate the hard work!

Thanks for the heads up. ;D

I'm going to wait till at least a few more blocks mature. That way I can make sure that everyone who mined on the other database will get their shares.

Most excellent NothingG and Sunny King.

Both of you deserve huge credit and congratulations on PPCoins.  I look forward to making each of you some donations :) and please keep up the good work :)

please feel free to PM me a PPC address where I can make a donation or two.... NothingG  i take it the address on ur Pool site will be ur address to donate to??

Also is there any thoughts to the possibility of an exchange being setup for PPCoins?? would like to have a go myself... but would be very experimental and might need a hand or two :P any thoughts anyone??

Since it might have to be re-started once the best way to actualy do working proof of stake / proof of work combo is worked out, making an exchange might be premature, you might turn out to pretty much be trading testnet-coins...

That's true for any cryptocurrency. Let the market decide how much they're worth (if anything).

Looks like something happened last night.

I'll go ahead and restart, but hopefully the logs let me know what happened.
I'm going to be moving the website off onto another server soon, that should help with the loadbalance.

Being such a small # of workers, I didn't think anything like this would happen.

[Edit]: @allWorkersOnThePool: I'm sorry about the delay in payments, but it seems when we where on the old database...we've mined a lot more blocks than I had imagined. I'm going to head to work and let some more blocks mature to make sure everyone from the old database gets their shares into that block.
http://46.166.138.142/dev2.php <Here, you can see how many credits/worker per block. As you can see, there are still shares to be given out to the last block that was matured.

Thanks. :) You can use the address at the pool's footer.

I think it may be possible to setup an exchange, but it is too early (not TOO early, but...I'd say maybe a week?).

Figured i'd try mining PPCoins for a bit.
Joined your pool, mined for a few mins, submitted 20-30ish shares.
Why round estimate is negative?

Confirmed Balance: 0 PPC
Unconfirmed Balance: 0 PPC
Estimated Reward this Round: -0.04 PPC

Cheers.

The site is based on Bitcoin, being 50 shares.
I'll have this fixed once I submit the first round of PPC from the old database.

Your shares are being counted (as you can see, if you're logged in, by your shares compared to everyone else's shares).

[Edit]: Getting VERY close to running the script to push payments. Just checking to make sure it's possible to withdraw, then you should notice your account balance. :)

[Edit2]: Just distributed the PPC from the old database of shares. If you where one of the first few people mining, you should see your balance at the top of the screen. I just sent a PM to sunny asking how to determine the kb per transaction to let people actually withdraw from their account. Sorry for all the trouble community. :(

Is your payout transaction confirmed? You can use listtransactions to see the number of confirmations and the exact fees paid.

I think I know how I'm going to do the transaction. I'll just set it up, so the withdraw has to be > 1 PPC. Check out the site in ~10 minutes for the withdraw page.

Uh, could you please change my balance?

Right now I have a -1 PPC balance.  I submitted 12 shares in total.  I just want to get a bit of PPC so I can stake mine in 30 days if it's still there.

I worked really hard to CPU mine those 12 shares. (Lol my computer worked hard)

Pool should be back up.
The pushpoold had locked up again, but at least I think I know what the problem is.
The shares are starting to pile up because I haven't coded the second part of the script that goes through the blocks that are at 520+ confirmations and gives out those shares. After I code that in, the pool should stabilize.

That would have been the most likely reason for people not being able to connect.

Also, I believe I fixed the verified payout balance at the top of the page.

Just wanted to make a new post because this is important!

---------------
Important Announcement!

The pool server that you connect your miners to will be taken offline up to 15 minutes whilst I sift through all the shares and blocks that are currently found and verify those payments, so you can have some more coins to play with.

The reason I'm doing this stop, is so I can max out the server's CPU and RAM for the MySQL without people loosing their shares.

The maintenance on the site will happen:
27 Aug 2012 @ 11pm-11:15pm (CST, UTC -6)

So, expect your coins to show up in your account 27 Aug 2012 @ 11:16pm (CST, UTC -6).

---------------

If you have any questions or comments about this announcement, please ask before this time!

This should be better once I push out the old shares with those blocks.
I've got the script done, just waiting till 11PM to stop the server and hopefully fix some bugs that are caused by the database.

[Edit2]: I will be backing up the database before I do anything.

[Edit3]: Database is taking longer to backup than I thought. At least I was write for taking the pool offline to protect user's shares from being not-backed-up.

NB: My computer's clock is ~8 minutes ahead.

[Edit5]: Pool is back up. Shares have been paid out. Database size has halved.

[Edit6]: I may have to do this once more (most likely not) to catch back up with the new script. I'll give everyone at least 6-12 hours before I run that script.

I figured; why show a number when it's not even a probable number.
I'm still working on it, but the estimation is pointless until I can get the automatic scripts working.

I added a second server that handles some caching. If the pool (pushpoold) becomes too overloaded, hopefully, this will off-load some of the variables... I guess, I'm unsure. It had an option to setup a memcached server, so I assume it's for balance loading. I know what memcached does, just not in this specific environment.

You can see the list of server loads that are connected to the pool. As I get more coins coming in, I will start buying more servers to split up the different objects*.
http://46.166.138.142/serverloads.php

* Objects in this instance being: MySQL and the Web Interface. The pushpoold will stay at that specific server until I move onto a bigger node.

What speed is your pool mining at on average?

I'm going to be setting up two more cache servers to spread out the server load. Or, at least I hope that's what happens. Hopefully, that will help keep the crashes to a minimum

What is it that that take much load?, a pool should not take much, can be runned on a even small VPS..

is it pushpool?, if its, what error when overloaded?

Yeah, pushpoold kept hitting 100% CPU and wouldn't accept anymore shares.

Looking at the site, it seems adding the cache servers wasn't the answer.
I have no way of figuring out what is causing it to freeze up.

I've been mining at your pool for days now with the same username as here.
Still no verified balance.
Pretty sure my solo blocks didn't take this long to mature.
Any chance you could have a look at what is going on?

Thanks

It can take a few days for blocks to be verified.

I have been solo mining full speed for a couple-few days and as of now I have 111,789 PPC and only 8,975 have matured into a balance.

The PPC project in the beta stage, so as the coin matures and comes closer to the release stage, these issues should be taken care of.

Blocks take 520 confirmations to mature.

If i may ask, are you solo mining by pointing multiple miners against a single ppcoind daemon or do you have pushpool setup to mine?

If i may ask, are you solo mining by pointing multiple miners against a single ppcoind daemon or do you have pushpool setup to mine?

I use a dedicated coin server running a single daemon of whatever coin (or coins) I happen to be mining at the time. Since I normally have the ppcoind daemon running on my personal computer upstairs, I have it set as the backup. I thought about setting up a private pool, but was quite disappointed in most of the documentation, so that project has fallen a bit down the list.
I have not run into any problems solo using a server with a daemon with any of the coins (PPC/LTC..I do not have enough hash power to make BTC anywhere near viable solo) and rarely see any of the miners complain about slow getwork. If I am watching the miners through multiple SSH shells,I can see the miners all switch to a new block pretty much at the same time.

NothinG, sorry about the mini-hijack, If anybody else has questions about solo mining, please start a new thread and I will jump in when I see it.

For the record, I think NothinG starting a PPC pool was a very good thing for PPC and would encourage smaller miners, or those who only want to dedicate a small percentage of their hashing power, to use his pool.

If I decide to start moving some of my hash power back to LTC, I will be using his pool and am in fact already registered.

Mail server isn't setup yet.

I just updated the ppcoind, and that seems to fixed the site issue. I'm not sure why the update would have broken it in the first place.

Once the alert was sent all 0.1.0 daemons entered safe mode. You should be able to mine as normal in safe mode, just not sendtoaddress. Not sure if pool software has other issues with safe mode though.

Confirmed Balance: 0 PPC
Unconfirmed Balance: ukn PPC
Estimated Reward this Round: ukn PPC

Just wondering when this will be updated. It has been 5+ days now showing ukn. What does this mean? Thanks.

Have the blocks you mined for already matured (>520 confirmations) ?  That can take a few days.
I had some balance show up on confirmed over the weekend for blocks mined earlier last week.

I'm having trouble connecting with cgminer, and apparently I'm not the only one, any ideas? Cgminer says that no pool was found at that address, or something like that.

Overload definitely.

I have had two bursts of usage with my workers and then the load goes above 100% and I can't get back.

You just have to monitor the pool site (click statistics) to see the load and when it drops below 100% try again.

NothingG,

I have been mining on your pool since September 4th early morning. At this point, the blocks that I have contributed to have reached 520+ confirmations. Why is it that my balance shows 0 PPC?

It would be useful if the list of blocks remaining unconfirmed could be stretched so we could get a better idea of when the blocks we have contributed too are likely to reach 520 confirmations.

Also, what is the payment system is it PPNS?

No, the list is there but it needs to be longer.  Currently the last member of the list is around 497/8 confirmations, which means about 5 hours away but it would be better if we could know which blocks remain to be confirmed.

This is general calculation, I estimate currently mining 1 BTC is equivalent to mining 18K~19K PPC. That is, in the same amount of time to mine 1 BTC, you can expect to earn 18K~19K PPC.

Please note as ppcoin adjusts difficulty and mint rate continuously so this figure may change within days.

Pool still overloaded.

List of blocks now showing some confirmed. TY!

In theory I should now have quite a few shares but my verified balance on the pool is still zero.

I started am on 5th September and the blocks now confirmed up to am on 6th September.  Is this verified balance issue due to the pool overloading?

Have you had any yet?

When pool is down I have been solo mining with 370Mh and got 2 or 3 blocks per day at around 1300 each

In approximation therefore your 700Mh should net you around 5k to 6k per day, give or take, although difficulty is rising.

Pool now providing verified balance :) and seems more stable.

At some stage it would be useful to indicate on the front page how fees are calculated and when automatic payouts are likely to be made.

The site shows your credits - 1 PPC.
The 1 PPC is used for transaction fees when you withdraw.

I didn't requested a withdraw, the 1ppc gone from my balance, was 141, then 140 later...when it should up after a new block validation which I helped to mine, for the one I got no PPC and even have 1 less.... Anyway I moved on another pool, thanks for reply.

I'm not even sure how that would be possible.
I don't have anywhere in the code that would take 1 from anyone's account aside from the balance it shows at the top of the page or if you're withdrawing.

Either way, I didn't expect my pool to be up this long.
It's been more trouble that expected, but I'll keep it up for whoever wants to use it.

Sorry for my sacarstic previous post, just reread it... I manage myself a pool so I know how it can be...

Anyway I'm sure one of my ppc disappeared ( not a real prob for me) just to signal it to you.

Then the other request was about blocks and share associated. I feel like I didndt been credit for all blocks I helped to mine. Anyway for this part that just feeling and personnal checking on stats page... but its impossible to check and be sure at 100% in stats page how much share a user done on block. But i know where my miners was open and so what block i mined and i often didnt see my PPC verified increase when a new block reach 560 confirm... Well I hope you understand me

The block confirmations are automatic, where as the payout-shares is done manually.
The stats page (aside from the server stats (not pool) and verified balance (-1 PPC)) should not be trusted. It's there just to be general and kinda get an idea how much blocks are worth.
I've got a page that I use from time-to-time to tell me how many coins are still in the wallet.

I have mined on your pool for a bit and have accumulated shares there. As of 4 days or so I still do not have a PPC balance even though the blocks I would have worked on have met the 520 confirmations.

How long after blocks become legit do we expect a payout? Thanks

I helped mine a number of blocks last week in ur pool and the blocks have confirmed, yet my balance is not updating... Any chance u could update the pool, or are u looking into proof of stake in the wallet and coins??

Still want to support ur pool, so please keep up the good work :)

I am back, sorry I've been gone for so long. My laptop died and I couldn't get it to a working condition (took me almost 2 weeks to accept that my laptop was actually dead). After that, I decided to go ahead and start working on my new computer.

I just got all the parts in Friday, starting working on installing basic drivers and software (as well as going into Saturday after work). I'm still getting everything upgraded (software like filezilla, winscp, notepad++, and VS12) so I should be able to push out payments hopefully tomorrow if not, Tuesday.

Well last message was his comp broke and he was setting up a new one... but that some time ago now and can even discount the inability to remember passwords for this forum etc as he logged in and updated this thread since then... so yeah either something else has happened in RL that means NothingG isn't here... but yeah I probably waiting on 3-5000 coins from his pool so if he never returns then scammer tag it may seem... but i hope ity doesn't come to that.... WHERE ARE YOU NothingG??.......

I know... i'll start looking in the back alleyways between websites, see if he just got drunk one evening and woke up and can't find his way home :P

Still no word from him huh? I'm temped to label as a scammer, but if he never comes back- whats the point? If he comes back and doesn't return the coins, THEN he's a scammer.

Title: Re: [PPC] NothinG's Pool (Beta Testing)
Post by: crazy_rabbit on January 14, 2014, 08:43:50 PM
NothinG should be labeled a Scammer. He/She is active on the forum but does not reply to messages regarding the return of our PPC. I have reason to believe, although not 100% substantiated, that he is possibly associated with a bitcoin server hosting firm. I would ask if we can label him a scammer and ask the admins to release the access IPs of NothinG to compare them with known IPs from this firm.

I am willing to take a cut on the PPC owed considering the amount it has appreciated, but NothinG should be labeled a scammer.

Post by: FuzzyBear on March 01, 2015, 03:42:46 AM
Ok just to clear the air on NothinG and his original PPC pool.

I have been working on a project here: http://charts.peercointalk.org/

This allows me to scan the blockchain for POW blocks and which address they came from.  I turned it on the start of the blockchain and saw some interesting results.

This combined with my withdraw transactions from the pool I have been able to isolate the address at which the pool was mining the PPC coins to.

Have a look at these transactions:

https://bitinfocharts.com/ppcoin/tx/877419934857b5265fceb69a72570c589a04182d6da64fe986eaefb809e05439
https://bitinfocharts.com/ppcoin/tx/370706b9447944da4ab27d73351dd323a3ee9527e8d379c022fc7b746266002c
https://bitinfocharts.com/ppcoin/tx/6803fb380c2a687fcb099589a39934ff812b8244867aac5717058d14837c4f38

These I can confirm are transactions to my wallet https://bitinfocharts.com/ppcoin/address/PBYdLfZa9d6bsgq8NQfBLzQ7HJgsYpj4ve

and they show the source of the coins as coming from PAA3yN86ofXMHvFwqKNeEx4YXRPb7gUfK2

Have a look at the current state of the address and last transactions and you can see https://bitinfocharts.com/ppcoin/address/PAA3yN86ofXMHvFwqKNeEx4YXRPb7gUfK2

Balance: 11,535.45 PPC  last transaction - 2012-10-02 17:39:59

So the coins mined at the pool have not moved since October 2nd 2012 and this coincides with the last post date from NothinG on this pool -  Posted on: October 08, 2012, 12:54:52 AM

The PM I got from NothinG when I asked him about the pool was
Quote
The server company I was with lost the vps during a migration and I wasn't running any backups. I was so busy installing and un-installing the OS, that I didn't have any snapshots. I was working on it for a few days when it went down.

Was NothinG running mining from different addresses from the start of the pool? maybe is my answer as older transactions to my wallet show the source of the blocks from PD3mSEpYBkqJaxgY9VNgbMfn85DxVra4fM https://bitinfocharts.com/ppcoin/address/PD3mSEpYBkqJaxgY9VNgbMfn85DxVra4fM

Though again this address Balance: 6,488.05 PPC last transaction - 2012-10-02 13:07:58

Also https://bitinfocharts.com/ppcoin/address/PRnPA454UUw7xX55LT152CwJydXx6rxYzF Balance: 3,846.13 PPC last transaction - 2012-09-13 01:51:32

Other addresses possibly linked to the pool but empty:
https://bitinfocharts.com/ppcoin/address/PVwwYxFvGa7mkRRopnYvfRTdEudHARbHkb
https://bitinfocharts.com/ppcoin/address/PEbZFgW4xUdFoeQAvJuwiCdFuN8X9RLKa3

So it is in my opinion at this point in time that NothinG is telling the truth in that he lost the pool wallet and had no backup.  Or he is still sitting on these coins waiting to offload.  I would suggest removing the scammer tag until these coins move from the addresses:
https://bitinfocharts.com/ppcoin/address/PAA3yN86ofXMHvFwqKNeEx4YXRPb7gUfK2 11,535.45 PPC
https://bitinfocharts.com/ppcoin/address/PD3mSEpYBkqJaxgY9VNgbMfn85DxVra4fM 6,488.05 PPC
https://bitinfocharts.com/ppcoin/address/PRnPA454UUw7xX55LT152CwJydXx6rxYzF 3,846.13 PPC

Fuzzybear's analysis seems pretty fair to me. If he didn't dump them back when they were worth something, and long after we mostly forgot about it, I assume he probably did just lose them. I support removing the scammer tag as well.
