Title: Electrum 2.4 binaries
Post by: ThomasV on August 17, 2015, 01:34:28 PM
Version 2.4.2 was released today, with OSX and Windows binaries.
See https://electrum.org/#download

However, hardware wallets (trezor, ledger) are not supported in the current Windows binaries.
If you use a hardware wallet, please wait until we have better binaries.

Thanks for the update Thomas.

Yes I've seen that the Trezor plugin is not working in 2.4.1. Will it be back in and functional in the next release?

Damn , Finally :o Thank you so much for our hard work ThomasV .
Just one question , what's the difference between Standalone & Installer on the download page ? I know portable is just the .exe ?  but Isee that you removed it though

EDIT : Also is there is any place where we can throw suggestions etc ... to get added to the wallet ?

...what's the difference between Standalone & Installer on the download page...

The 'Standalone' comes as a single exe file which you can copy onto a usb drive. You can run it from the USB drive and have all the data folders and wallet files on the drive as well.

The Installer is a Windows installer which will install Electrum for you i.e. create it in the Program Files directory together with the data folders in your AppsDirectory etc...

Just downloaded and tested the latest Electrum-LTC 2.4.2.1 and must say I'm impressed.

Yes I know its not Electrum for btc but if its an indication of where Electrum-btc is heading then I'm happy.

See that Trezor is no longer a plugin but part of the code. Also, finally, the labels for the accounts inside the wallet is working on Windows. Hope this is resolved on Electrum with the next release.

Are there any co-operation between the two development teams i.e.for ltc and btc ?

Thanks for this wonderful wallet.
Is there a portable version for 2.4.*?

Not yet released. Guess it will be out soon. As mentioned above, Electrum-LTC released version 2.4.2.1 in all configurations (installer, stand alone etc..) so assume Electrum-BTC will be short on its heals. Most probably some issues to be resolved as 2.4 (BTC) also have no Trezor support at the moment.

Correction, go to the link provided, see there is a standalone version for version 2.4.3 available

From the release notes:

Quote
# Release 2.4.3
 * Support for KeepKey hardware wallet
 * Simplified Chinese wordlist
 * Minor bugfixes and GUI tweaks

https://github.com/spesmilo/electrum/blob/master/RELEASE-NOTES

Good to see guys, well done and thanks. Looking at getting a KeepKey.

Thomas

Downloaded the standalone version but found that it does not work like the previous version (2.3.2) The previous version first checked the local folder to see whether the required files were present in that folder when it started up. The current version (2.4.3) does not do this and create new folders under Users\AppData (on Windows).

Can you guys perhaps look into this for the next release as this will make the standalone version a bit pointless if its going to 'insist' on having its data files on the main drive of the pc.

I was also unable to open any of my wallets but I guess this was because of no hardware wallet support being present in this version. All my wallets are trezor watch-only wallets.

@animazing:  I experienced issues with the v2.4.3 OSX dmg package available at electrum.org  - I can't create any new wallets (of any kind) with this version.   The OSX zip file works fine (although a terminal command is required to start it - "python electrum").  I managed to work around this by following the new instructions provided at  http://electrum.orain.org/wiki/Build_Electrum_on_Mac_OS_X (http://electrum.orain.org/wiki/Build_Electrum_on_Mac_OS_X).

can you give more details please?

Hi, i'm planning to install Electrum as cold wallet on my offline laptop running Ubuntu. However the installation instructions require me to connect this PC to internet in order to have Electrum installed:

Code:
sudo apt-get install python-qt4 python-pip
sudo pip install https://download.electrum.org/Electrum-2.4.4.tar.gz

Is there any executable for Linux/Ubuntu or alternative method to install without connecting offline PC to internet ?

AFAIK you have to go online to get all the necessary files installed. When it starts up just create a dummy wallet for starters.

Once everything is running fine disconnect from the internet and never connect again. You can then delete the dummy wallet and setup your proper wallet.

Anyone knows what happened and what changed to the 2.4.4 version please ? https://electrum.org/#download
There is nothing about it on the Github release notes : https://github.com/spesmilo/electrum/blob/master/RELEASE-NOTES , and since there is changes to the website should I assume that it got hacked  ???

ThomasV probably did not update that file. It is unlikely for a hack as ThomasV himself posted it here. Nevertheless, I recommend you to verify both executable and sources.

oh I started a new branch for 2.4.4, and I forgot to add the changes to master

Oh nvm, now i realized that i can run Electrum straightly from source.

Btw is there any advantage in term of usage from install as above compared to running from source ? I got the warning "You are offline" window and "Error: Cannot read config file" in the terminal" during first run but they disappear in later attempts.

Any idea on when the latest binaries will include Trezor support again?

All my wallets are Trezor based so cannot upgrade to latest versions due to there being no support for Trezor.

Also, I've looked at the whole OpenAlias thing and was wondering whether anybody here has set it up and used it? If so could you perhaps provide some feedback on this?

Seems like the 2.5 version has been released (at least the Change log) but I can't seem to understand this part , if anyone could explain it with simple explanation wi thout technical terms  :
Quote
All electrum windows are now part of the same process.  When starting
a new GUI electrum instance, that instance starts a daemon if there is
none running.  Otherwise it connects to the running daemon and sends the
it information to open a window in the daemon's process, and the new
   instance then terminates.

If the sender really send it then it simply arrives within few seconds (It's recommended to wait few confirmations before give the product to the buyer or whatever) , as you can see here (that's the mac version but it's same thing for Electrum windows)  :

http://www.thecleverest.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/electrum-blank-copy-644x499.png

So you head to "Receive" tab and copy "receiving" adress and give it to the sender so he send you BTC , when he send the "Balance" cell should show how much that adress has received  , also on the Bottom left you should see your total balance .

I have a workaround for this .
run command  :
Code:
electrum.exe -P

or You can create a shortcut of electrum.exe at same folder and open properties of the shortcut and add " -P"  at the end of target field.

Tried it but could not get it to even start up. Not sure whether there might have been changes to any of the underlying files. The portable version of 2.3.2. runs just fine from my USB drive with the data folders on the USB but the 2.4.4. stand alone version, as said, does not even want to start up.

If I remove the -P parameter it runs just fine but then creates the data folders in the AppData folder again.

I will wait for the latest binaries to come out. Version 2.4.4. does not work for me in any case as there is no support for Trezor and all my wallets reside on a Trezor.

Also, will hardware wallets be supported in the next release?

I was reading on DASH (Darkcoin) Altcoin thread and I saw that OP said that they funded Electrum project so  I assume that the late updates for Electrum BTC is because of Electrum DASH if the developpers are the same of course .

Could be but what I do not understand is that the LTC version, which is essentially a clone of the main BTC version, is miles ahead of the BTC version. They are at version 2.4.3.1 and everything is working. Thinks like hardware wallet support, account names/labels that do not disappear the whole time etc....

The BTC version (2.4.4.) has no hardware wallet support, the account labels is still a problem as they keep on disappearing etc..

At this stage the BTC version seems like cripple ware compared to the LTC version.

Nothing really , as I said on the post above I guess ThomasV is working on Dash coin now and not on Bitcoin and as you can see here : https://github.com/spesmilo/electrum/blob/master/RELEASE-NOTES the latest version is 2.5 however it's not complied and nothing changed for whatcomes to the hardware walelt support (they added Support for KeepKey hardware wallet i suppose only)  and if you check the download page you will only see 2.4.4 for downloading .

Rofl :o no ? I've seen Bitcoin Electrum developpement little bit slow lately so I assumed that you are working on the DASH wallet [Electrum version] because I've seen on their thread that Electrum for DASH is being funded , Sorry.

Thanks Thomas, it would be appreciated as all my wallets are Trezor based so I'm still stuck on Electrum 2.3.2.
