Title: PSU for 4 videocards Post by: MZZM on June 07, 2011, 04:58:29 AM I`m really tight on money building my first rig. And it will be on sempron 140, with cheap ram and hdd.
And I don`t know yet, will I get 4x 5830 or 5850. I googled, and 5830 use 171wt and 5850 150wt. How to count how much energy mobo and hdd needs? You might have a challenge finding either one of those cards in stock anywhere unless you want to pay double what they were going for a month ago. 5850's went out of stock everywhere about 2 weeks ago and 5830's dried up tonight... With an AMD semperon I might have a chance with it. I'll have to do more looking around & research into Gold rated systems I guess.

You're going to be running the PSU and GPUs 100% (probably OC'd) 24/7. Your main concern is a power supply that has sufficient amperage, and is rated to put out continuous power at high temps in the range that you need it. The cards are going to be getting f'd up anyway, a small amount of ripple really makes little difference to these set ups. I mean, obviously the best quality is better, but a pass means that the PSU is solid enough to do its job, and that's what you need for a mining rig. |
