Title: Best way to spend Bitcoin? Newbie's opinion.
Post by: JonasM on December 17, 2015, 11:01:44 PM
Hi guys, I'm new here and I just started reading the forum. I see a lot of advise like "invest Bitcoin", buy mining equipment etc. But I don't see anyone talk about daily life products. Food, computers, bills, Christmas shopping. The other day I was paid 4000 usd in btc and now don't know how to spend it wisely. But I ordered a pizza today and it tasted good.

The best way is to spend it like normal money. There aren't many places that accept Bitcoin, but some online stores take Bitcoin, and you can buy things from amazon using purse.io. AFAIK Newegg, Tigerdirect, and dell accept Bitcoin. There might be some stores in your local area that also take Bitcoin, so you should check some maps and merchant directories like coinmap.org

I'd get some miners, because you gotta invest money to make money. Then it depend on what you want to buy, you can buy pretty much anything with Bitcoin. There are websites like Newegg and Overstock that sell tons of stuff, and between a BTC debit card and all the online retailers, you can get pretty much anything that is not cash only.

I guess it's my luck to blame, I just sealed the deal with this guy from this forum for an iMac. Sent him the money and now I saw everyone is talking about escrow. I'm feeling kind of lame:((

^^I agree with this, but OP got a nice chunk of change there, so he should spend some of it if he wants.

If you're into coins or bullion, Provident Metals takes bitcoin and they give a discount for using it.  I've used them, and they're definitely reliable.  Lol, that's the only time I've actually spent bitcoin.  I'd definitely save if i were you.

Wow. 4000 USD in BTC is a lot of money. Do you work for BTC?

I wouldn't recommend anyone to start mining now. The difficulty has shot up a lot and it's almost impossible to make a profit or even ROI without some kind of special privilege like free electricity and such.

You can order and buy lots of things with BTC nowadays... Just spend it like you do with your local currency. I think you should try out some of the physical storefronts that offers to accept BTC.

Good luck and don't gamble ;)

What did you sell to the guy who bought to you amounting to $4K?

I was planing to create a website and maybe if I got the right btc amount I could buy the script needed for the website and the hosting plan in btc. There are now domain registrars and hosting provider that accepts BTC, that should be a good way to s pend and of course its an investment.

Hi, dear you are really a business man, better hold your Bitcoins instead of spending it for any foods now, because its really the price of Bitcoins is rising high like before. So I suggest you to hold your bitcoins money to make it grow bigger amounts. You have invested 4000 USD in btc, I am sure it will make double soon. Hope for the good and don't spend it now for any pizza. Buy your pizza when you get good returns. Which will taste awsome.

Interesting thread.

My first reaction is that a guy who is prepared to accept $4,000 in Bitcoin (and has the ability  to accept them) must be aware of the Bitcoin market place. It seems that he doesn't really need anything, but just wants to unload his Bitcoin holding. The best way to do this must be to convert it into cash, rather than waste it on something he doesn't want.

There is some good logic posted in favour of keeping the coins, and that is what I would do based on the info available.

Yeah, ultimately the best course of attack is to hold your bitcoins.  There are multiple ways of doing this, whether getting a cold wallet (trezor), paper wallet, or possibly buying into some physical bitcoins where you can store your coins.  Physical bitcoins may pan out to be the best plan for storing your bitcoins, because they add in value as a collectors item that people are willing to pay a premium for (i.e. Casascius coins).

If you're looking to purchase things that are necessary for your everyday life, I'm not quite sure if there are ways to pay bills with Bitcoin directly.  Maybe you should look into getting a bitcoin debit card which allows you to pay anyone using a Visa which is "backed" by bitcoins and pays out the amount of fiat upon purchase.  So any place that accepts Visa (I would imagine everyone that you deal with currently) can be able to take that form of payment, and the Debit card company takes out the exact amount of bitcoins from your stash and pays out to the company in fiat.

Also, just curious... what did you do exactly to earn you $4,000 in bitcoin? Seems like a pretty tough thing to do, and I wouldn't imagine you did business with someone here on the forum. ???

Do not spend it, save it.  unless you are using what you make to live, there is no reason for you to spend it at this point.  Save it and wait for the BTC to go up.  When it goes up, you will be glad you did this.  I know I will be.

Saving all of it to a point I think.  Everything in moderation is good.   I personally like to pay electricity out of it.  This keeps me where I don't spend a small fortune per year on electricity.

If I spend regular earning on electricity, and it goes down and I paid electricity with my regular earnings... I could lose a lot.  So I view electricity payment as responsible.   And then I keep the profit and ROI.   It has been a pretty good system and has worked for me pretty well.

Investing in gaming wasting the money only As newbies He should not do that. As he asked bitcoin miner he can buy in amazon or ebay with bitcoin or Fiat cash. In miner work also we can’t get profit If we do as small scale. Better find solar miner and buy it.

goods yet. Will possibly be trying that out one day. I already have a debit card coming my way. I will be able to fund it instantly and

have money for the month long now instead of waiting for new money near ebry month.

But I'm not suggesting you to spend it all in just 1 day.

Funny pal. Gambling is waste of investment. Mostly loss will be there. If it is a Big rank people also Its not a good choice. Then we can suggest for newbies. They can in faucets for little income. After that  they can learnt about way of investment and they can choose the better choice.

You can spend your bitcoin like a real money.
But I'm not suggesting you to spend it all in just 1 day.
Try to keep them then use them when the price gets higher.

There is no problem about using Bitcoin to buy goods and games as you noticed here, but i think you can make some extra profit by holding your coins till the next halving at least, because we expect the Bitcoin's will increase after this event

I wouldn't spend much, if any. Just the odd thing or two. Save as much as you can. A treat or two may not be bad if you keep those oddities

on the lower end of the price range. I mine altcoins and save the btc I get from selling those to keep and collect. Now I have 33.40 CAD for

Canadian fiat worth. That is something for me. I found this out just now. I couldn't be happier.

I totally agree with this. I feel like if you are just starting out collecting your Bitcoin stash and don't have much coins to spare, I wouldn't be gambling it away on something like dice, however, gambling on sports every now and then is ok, or maybe the occasional poker tourney if the buy in is low enough.

But, I think the wisest thing to do if you want to actually "buy" something with your bitcoins is to head over to the collectables section of the forum and save up to buy some physical coins or maybe some other cool collectable item.

That way it's kind of a win/win situation if Bitcoin does go higher in price, you can keep at least your usd value of the coin and probably make some money/Bitcoin if you want to sell it later on in life.

You should not go for investment just after joining the forum. You need to earn with the bitcoins on short investments, signature campaigns, trade and then you can invest on bitcoin which would be worth for a Newbie.

So this is why there are lots of amazon gift cards scam lol
I never use amazon to shop though but I do buy stuff on ebay, i just haven't tried buying to a seller who accepts bitcoin.

Digital goods are just the best stuff to buy with bitcoins, i mostly spend btc to seoclerk services which is like fiverr and also here in bitcointalk. Maybe as a newbie you should try the digitalgoods first.

There are so many users selling their gift cards for bitcoins and you can try buying those gift cards for cheap and then order products from online stores like Starbucks, Amazon, Dominos, Ebay and so on. It's better than using purse.io or any other gift card website as the price asked on this forum is pretty less. You can also recharge you mobile using apps that accept bitcoins as payment and pay your bills as well.

Even I agree with this. When I was a newbie, I did not spend my bitcoins wisely and ended up over spending. It's better to hold the coins and then learn about online websites where you can spend these bitcoins for a lesser price. There
are good trading websites as well that earn traders a good amount of profit.

If you only want to spend and not trade the bitcoins, you can try this website: www.bitcoinstore.com/

The website has mentioned all the websites that accept bitcoin payments and I feel this is the best way you can spend the coins wisely but if you prefer buying gift cards for 80%, you can save even more.

Watch out on gift cards sadly there is a lot of carded ones on the online space.  Yes they are cheaper... but if you get a carded one depending on what service or store it can hurt your account.

For example if you use carded iTunes, they can ban your iTunes account.  This is why a lot who buy giftcards ask for picture of receipt showing paid cash for gift card and not credit card.

If you want to spend your coins, you can look up some markets and online shops here : http://www.thebitcoinpage.com/ There are lots of bitcoin related sites there to choose with. But personally, if I got that amount I would spend it to buy a PC on newegg then the rest, I will invest it so it will grow eventually

Food, computers, bills, Christmas shopping. The other day I was paid 4000 usd in btc and now don't know how to spend it wisely. But I ordered a pizza today and it tasted good.

I will never recommend anyone to invest in any sites or go for cloud mining as this all are ponzi schemes to scam the investors. buying mining equipment is not worthy right now until you dont have electricity free .

One thing you can do is you can convert it to your fiat currency and use it in your own way or you can surf online their are so many sites who are offering online products against bitcoin payment just you have to check whether your country support it or not.

Also mining now not easy and need really a big budget to start with

I will never recommend anyone to invest in any sites or go for cloud mining as this all are ponzi schemes to scam the investors. buying mining equipment is not worthy right now until you dont have electricity free .

One thing you can do is you can convert it to your fiat currency and use it in your own way or you can surf online their are so many sites who are offering online products against bitcoin payment just you have to check whether your country support it or not.

I am agree with this idea. Nowadays most of the so called "cloud mining" sites are just ponzi schemes and MLM pyramids and then very risky to invest there
Also mining now not easy and need really a big budget to start with

Right, there are very less sites which are still available for investments, and even people can't believe those because of all the scam sites out there.

It is not like scam even which are still operating are not giving profit on investment , the charges of expenses and electricity and maintenance itself eat half of the mining profit. which makes the ROI after 2 or 3 years then when will you start your profit. That is why it was clearly mentioned that mining wont give profit nowadays and after halving it will become more difficult for miners.

Until you dont have any emergency you can just hold your bitcoins as investment in your wallet, because when their will be price hike you can come out with more profit. if any emergency you can convert it to your fiat currency and clear all your problem. Investing in any other schemes may also get you loss.

Good info. I never actually used bitcoin purchase option on G2A.com I need to do that someday soon.
If you don't want to hassle with registration and want to purchase game for BTC asap I recommend sites like:
https://steambitshop.com/ (https://steambitshop.com/) and http://steamgamesbtc.com/index.php?page=cats&id=1 (http://steamgamesbtc.com/index.php?page=cats&id=1)
All you have to do is send BTC and game as gift will appear in your mailbox. I tested it and so far I had no problems with the service.

AFAIK the direct steam bitcoin purchase was a rumor which is not added to steam yet. so it is for the future.

if you want to purchase anything from steam, you might find people on the forum that might do it for you. you can always buy steam wallet fund (it is a code that you put in your account and it adds fund to your steam wallet) and then purchase any item with those funds.
I did that once by finding somebody in the digital goods section. you can start a topic with [WTB] tag.

I do the same. I got a bitcoin debit card for free and by paying a small fee monthly, I pay for most of the things online and offline and that includes my rent, electricity, phone bills and internet bills. People say that debit cards are pretty expensive but for me it has been the best option rather than withdrawing money from the bank.

Indeed but still there are some people that consider claiming satoshis on faucets as a source of earnings online, especially those who are unemployed on third world countries. Just like here, a lot of people here were desperate to earn money in any ways and they can endure the low paying rates and boredom they get on faucets. I can see some posting their small earnings on Facebook and they are even proud of it :D

Spending bitcoins will attract more merchants for accepting bitcoin, if we stop spending bitcoin then the merchants who are currently supporting/accepting bitcoin will drop their support. i would suggest only hold like 90% and spend like 10%.

What kind of advice is that? Even the slightest ROI is highly unlikely.

Don't invest it in any investment site they are scam if you really want to make a profit with your money you try to invest it in BTCjam and lend it..
Or try Trading invest there and buy some altcoin and wait for the price to increase and sell..
If you buy miner right now this is not the time to buy it.. just wait for halving and see if mining is profitable.. because right now mining is not profit because of high difficulty..

Amazon and Ebay are accepting bitcoins directly? I did not find this payment option. Earlier Microsoft also used to accept bitcoins but they also stopped it and Amazon has been saying that they will notify me when they will start accepting bitcoin payments.

For me for newbie opinion if you want to spend your bitcoin its better to spend it to buy an altcoin in trading site so that you can make more profit with your bitcoin..  but first you should study trading first because trading is risky if you don't know what altcoin to choose you will lose..
So make sure to research first about altcoin and make sure buy low and sell so that you can make more profit..

Currently just better to sit on it, or invest in wisely.

Watch out for scams and help other people earn too.

Why not try PizzaForCoins?? It allows you to order from any nearby Domino’s, Pizza Hut or Papa Johns. Pay in Bitcoins to PizzaForCoins, and they’ll order your pizza(s) for you. PizzaForCoins is currently available for United States and Australian customers only; the United Kingdom service is currently offline, while a Canadian service is "coming soon."

The list is outdated though.  (I looked at other sites and they are all outdated.)  For example, Microsoft stopped accepting bitcoin.

But many of the companies on the list still do: overstock, gyft, and Tiger Direct accept bitcoins.

And, if you're in the need for a new car, Tesla accepts bitcoins ;)

Gambling isn't ideal either, of they don't have a way to earn BTC reliably then why take the risk losing it all? People that hold a small amount of coins are better of holding and very occasionally spending on purchases if they can earn back what they spend IMO.

I think you should keep your bitcoin and wait the halving,  its coming 3-4 months from now so the value would go higher.
You can spend it also on online store that accepts bitcoin as payment to buy gadgets, foods and etc.
If I could just have enough bitcoins, I like to buy an iphone or macbook.

But if you really want to spend it now, as soon as possible, you can trade it into your currency for you to able use it as fiat.

I think maybe the best way to spend Bitcoin would be through small investments....

My problem is that I can't even get loans or make investments without some kind of trust rank here. Problem is, when can I get a trust level if I don't have trades? And when can I get trades if I don't have a trust level to get trades...it's upsetting me.

if you can wait for two years more then just wait until the next halving in 2020, the value should skyrocket due to better adoption by that time

When I was a newbie, I did not spend my bitcoins wisely and ended up over spending. It's better to hold the coins and then learn about online websites where you can spend these bitcoins for a lesser price.

If you are earning a good amount of bitcoin then do not spend on useless things, its always better to hold an wait for the price hike and sell to earn good profits.

If you are planning to spend it as soon as possible then spend it wisely.
Spend your bitcoins in such a nice way, like in what you interest with -something like that.
Be productive on spending, for my part it's hard to gain/earn it, it takes time.

You could wait for few months and spend your bitcoins. If halving is effective you will get a better amount to spend on your requirement. In my opinion only few digital goods are available for direct purchase with bitcoin.

But I ordered a pizza today and it tasted good.
you might not see some thread that mentioning about spent bitcoin daily, many people spent bitcoin for daily consumption, buy food,t-shirt and other goods, and also spent bitcoin on buying service like recharge mobile phone.

Best advice I can give to you, first and foremost put this amount in a hardware wallet like Trezor,Keepkey or Ledger Nano. Wait until the halving, I mean give a check to your wallet after the halving is done. If its 700 USD or more per BTC I would sell and make about 3000 USD win or I would save for your years to come, you never know maybe the price go up to 10.000 USD per Bitcoin or more and we all will be very happy if it does so.

Best way in my view, is spend in things that people already have a market for.

Eg: Buying a car - known brand - that doesnt lose value like most brands and sell it

Basically anything tangible or get some type of deal that secures the price quote in a written contract. And then you can decide to sell or keep the bitcoin so you cant really lose since you planned ahead.

Basically you are saying buying a Mercedes, Audi or BMW as normal cars, these are the only brands who don't get depreciation fast. We all know what happen to Japanese manufacturers and how fast they lose value just after 1 or 2 years after production. Anyway buying a car with Bitcoin will not be easy, although I have learned that someone bought here in the forum for 20k usd in bitcoin a car, don't remember the brand now.

Its good to hear that now we can buy a car using bitcoin, but that scenario is not same in all countries, as in many countries we cannot even buy basic things using bitcoin at a moment.

It shows the growth of bitcoin. Buying a car itself not a simple matter but when when bought with bitcoin really a big thing these days, because as mentioned in the above quote in most countries people don't even get simple products for bitcoin.

The post timer is a great thing, as you gain activity it will get smaller and smaller.  Sadly without this someone creates an account and can spam the crap out of the baord.  With this chances are they get reported and far less spam threads.

Faucets are just a way to make cent's.  Sadly so many new people think they are getting free money... but it's so tiny it's not worth while.   There is so many better things to do with your time.

Can you pay for holiday with bitcoin?

By saving up enough coins and cashing them out?  It is very possible for some to do this there are some called whales that have large holdings.  If your thinking of a small faucet user or something then no... no vacation.

But all it would take is selling BTC at an exchange to get the money for vacation assuming you have the BTC.

I think spend on internet is better, direct payments to the site where you are buying, without extra fees and banks involved. Buying virtual stuff I mean. But convert BTC into your country money can be a good deal, so you can use it daily on your life. Because many stores don't accept crypto-currencies yet.

I also spend it by exchanging my btc to paypal funds to buy some online goods.

I still prefer to convert my bitcoin to my fiat and reserved for the useful things. Because I'm worried for the shipping fee when I spend it online store unless if its just only base in our country since I have experienced on purchasing online.

Buy and sell business is a good idea, I'm dreaming it of too.

I also did the same thing as you, because in my country it is rare that accept bitcoin payments, but if possible I would spend my bitcoin for shopping, because the fee are small and easy to use.

but I'd rather grow than always spent my bitcoin.

I think spend on internet is better, direct payments to the site where you are buying, without extra fees and banks involved. Buying virtual stuff I mean. But convert BTC into your country money can be a good deal, so you can use it daily on your life. Because many stores don't accept crypto-currencies yet.

I spend my bitcoin in online shopping. The process is as fast as conventional payment. You can pay with Core wallet.

Yeah its good to spend btc on mobile recharge, but majority of coins I convert it to fiat and then spend, as there is not a single shop that accepts bitcoin in my area.

Personally, I love to use Bitcoin to buy nearly anything I can. This is because the seller will have no access to any of my personal details.

Earning few BTC and wait for the halving can be an investment but why don't you also try spending it on ICO and wait for your profit assuming you have invested on a good coin - you only need to spend few. its the same thing as altcoin trading.

I don't know what amount a newbie would be holding, but the best thing is not to spend at a moment, just hold it till halving, at that stage spending would be more meaningful and valuable.

That's way better than spending it for your pleasures. Instead of spending it on useless thing.
You already helped your parents in paying bills, electric bills, telephone and internet bills.
And you will be encourage to earn more bitcoins after that.

You can try to recharge your mobile phone for a top up, I have already made it last few days ago, it is very easy and convenient, you don't need to go outside from your house just to load up your mobile phones. And you can do that also even you are neither a retailer nor dealer.

Your first choice is only applied for the steam gamers. Because not all bitcoin users are not gamers still it is a good idea for spending it a newbies way.
I like your second choice of spending it for hosting and domain, you can create your own website depending on what kind of its theme you want to create.
