Very few people in my country are aware about the bitcoins and that make me a bit worried, as it is not getting support from the Government, bitcoin is treated as an illegal currency in my country.

Very slow. 2 - 3 places that accept bitcoin in the bigger cities. But it's a start, and everything has to start somewhere.

Britain. I keep hearing how digital currency friendly we are yet still can barely do a single thing with it. Banks shut down everyone and everything they can so there are no proper exchanges and very few businesses.

To those of you who are saying that since your city only has a couple bitcoin merchants, bitcoin isn't developing quickly, I have news for you; that is a sign that it's growing quickly and many people are adopting it. A single merchant will typically need assurance that at least 10 customers (that's a very scaled-down number) will use a form of currency in order to begin accepting it. I'd say 20+ bitcoin users in a single city is pretty impressive; definitely an increase when you compare it to 3 to 5 years ago.

in your country, many are using bitcoin?

There are a good percentage of nodes hosted, a few companies based here and a tiny amount of retailers but no, it's nothing compared to the US. Without banking at present it has little or no utility for retail. The retailers are using Bitpay and Coinbase but I don't know how it works. I guess they have to wait longer for their money to arrive from Europe.

Things will change in future for sure, no doubt bitcoin is not that popular in many countries, but it needs some time to grow, user adoption will make a difference, and once the adoption is higher there would be more users of bitcoins.

That is the problem in many countries,  I recommended to my friends and family but they didn't show any interest in it, which was very much disappointing, it gave me feeling that if I am not able to convince my family how can I convince the outsiders.

Bitcoin is not illegal in my country but its not getting any help from our government too. You can't buy anything here foe btc as there are no merchant accepting it at the moment.
But there are like 4 to 5 start-ups that are based here and you can easily exchange your btc into fiat. There are some local sites too that partners with some merchant if you want to buy using your bitcoin but the list is too narrow that you can't even choose a good bargain for your coins.

In Brazil some people/stores are utilizing Bitcoin, but as 99% of population don't even know what it is, it's not so developed/cool as it is in i.e in North America.

The fact that the official currency is rotten, the cost of living and taxes are extremely high, people don't give a damn to BTC because they need fiat to eat , to pay water and electricity bills first... then, when the money is resting in your bank account, some minority spend it buying some coins or start mining (almost nobody).

My country is still a developing country, and people are not that literate especially in interiors, so it becomes difficult to explain them about bitcoins, as they have never used internet too, so expecting them to use bitcoins is a bit difficult.

Not as good as I'd like, but at least I can buy gift cards with it, accept it for my content writing, and there's the Winklevoss exchange if I ever desperately need to cash out to fiat.

how the development of bitcoin in your country?
whether in your country banned the use of bitcoin?

Development is quite slow, there are a few exchanges which allow users to buy/sell bitcoins but the verification process is a pain the ass and it takes a lot of time. Other than that I am not aware of any companies/services directly accepting bitcoin and maybe that is because it is not yet completely legal, sort of in a grey area atm, whatever that means.

not good at all, there was a time a couple of years ago where bitcoin was becoming super popular everywhere but that was mainly because of the $1000-$1200 price of it.

currently i am glad to tell you that there is no opposition or banning against bitcoin in my country and i hope this stays the same in the future too. but the amount of awareness is still low.

I travel a lot with work, and most of the time to developing countries. The adoption rate is very low due to poor internet infrastructure. In many countries you will not find a single Bitcoin ATM and then you walk around in North America and you find several in a single city.

A lot of developing countries use Bitcoin extensively for remittance, but they have no merchant network accepting Bitcoin payment. Coinbase should expand their Shift card to these countries, to stimulate trade in Bitcoin.

In my country, bitcoins are known by a very small percentage of people. There is one exchange for bitcoins and recently, the central bank issued an official notice that bitcoins are not recognized in the country. It cited cases of money laundering and financing of terrorism and therefore warned people not to use bitcoins.

Exactly and that is the scenario in majority of countries, and the issue is we are not able to spend our bitcoins physically in our country, and it is still only digital for us as we are using it only for online transaction, so lets hope that this scenario changes soon in near future.

It's a shame, I could be using that card here in Canada. But all these regulations keep everyone some simply moving things around and making stuff widely available. It would also allow for a bit more versatile credit/debit system for me, if I don't have the money sitting around to pay for something anyways.

I belong to India, and I can see rarely knows or heard about bitcoins, and that makes me a bit worried, as I am not sure what would be the scenario in future as we expect more and more users to start adopting bitcoins but I can hardly see it in near future in my country.

Everything is ok for Canada!.. The land of freedom!..  ;D
Lucky you.  In the US, where I'm at, bitcoin is alive and well.  But one state over from me, New York is being a little bitch state with legislation.  I do not claim to keep up with the legal things concerning bitcoin, however.  It's nice that the US legislatures have kind of not regulated it to death.  Yet.

Sounds like a pretty good plan to get fired by your superiors for allowing Bitcoin to get a widespread adoption  ;)

Yeah, that's true and the problem is that people are aware about bitcoins but they are not using it, and the reason is they lack knowledge of how to use bitcoins and what are the benefits of bitcoins.

I have no problem with bit coins in USA but only problem is that is not very well known by large number of people as it should have been acknowledged for its benefits. other than that every thing is fine with bit coins so far here.

In my country no so many people know about bitcoin, or use it.
It's difficult to find even local merchants where we can spend our bitcoins.
Just recently we got first Bitcoin ATM and some media shared news about bitcoin so hopefully this will help spread info about bitcoin.
Most local people are very skeptic about bitcoin but I hope this will change soon.

Most of the People are unaware what Bitcoin is. They would have not heard its name even. Though it is not illegal here, it is not in widespread use.

That is common.. the best way is just to tell them what it is, or better yet, purchase something on the internet without going to the bank on paying it and wait til it arrive, if they were amazed, for sure one day, you will catch their attention...  :)

I tried to spread its awareness by telling it to my friends. Some of my friends played "Hacker Experience" , a game in which users could steal others Bitcoins if they got their public key.

Well you can also approach shops and ask them to accept it.
We all have to contribute if we want to make a success out of bitcoin . Try to contact merchants online and offline. Set up a local community etc. etc.
In my country there are some shops that accept bitcoin and i try to visit them as much as i can t make a purchase. To keep it warm.

how the development of bitcoin in your country?
whether in your country banned the use of bitcoin?

The development of bitcoin is matter or developers and have nothing to do with the countries or one country. Even the developers are not all capable to do it. So better to tell how is going the spread or the known of bitcoin in your country. In my country the knowledge must be very few (cannot know for sure because is not mentioned nothing never publicly about it). My friends and my co workers feels bothered from my continues discussions about it and the technology used to create it as well as even all the other digital products born from the same technology. As for banning don't think that it will be. In my country normally is made that which is made at USA and if USA regulated it for sure even here will be regulated. With big probabilities using the same rules like there.

Some dude posted about how Bitcoin is seen in Ireland (in their parliament):

'All fine, but what about Ireland? There is no official report on Bitcoin as things stand, but on the 10th December, 2013 Stephen Donnelly, TD directly asked the Minister of Finance, Michael Noonan, about the status of cryptocurrencies. Donnelly inquired about issues around legal tender status and tax evasion. What we learned is that the Central Bank is not in the business of regulating (specifically) Bitcoin and that cryptocurrencies are not legal tender. The specific term used is virtual currencies and so this falls in line with European Union thoughts on the matter. Further, Noonan stressed that, ‘because Bitcoin is a combination of some factors that constitute a commodity and some that constitute a currency, the implications for taxation are varied.’ The specific import of this is that if one is receiving Bitcoins as payment then the same rules as any ‘foreign currency’ apply. The implications for businesses accepting Bitcoin are clear in relation to gains. The response draws heavily on the EU VAT directive on Bitcoin that ‘VAT is generally chargeable on the total consideration for goods and services, including all taxes, commissions, costs and charges…’ There is a brief mention to the potential use of Bitcoin as a means of non-compliance, but this is considered to be quite low for the moment.

However, this is not the only times Bitcoin has emerge as a topic in Seanad or the Dáil. Cáit Keane in the Seanad stressed that ‘Ireland is a high-tech country. It must recognise Bitcoin, use it if there are benefits to doing so and, if possible, regulate it.’ In turn Senator Ivana Bacik has noted, ‘She [Keane] also raised the issue of Bitcoin and the new developments in the US.’ However, this is about as far as the debate ever went. Sometimes Bitcoin gets associated with the dark web. However, there are some misunderstandings about what occurs on the dark web as when Senator Aideen Hayden seemed to think Silk Road allowed child pornography (important as an distinction because an alleged member of the Silk Road team is up for extradition here soon). Broadly, however, the government seems content to allow the regulatory bodies to both take a cautious, long-term approach to the matter as well as being willing to take into account European Union advice.'
