Also, plot the cumulative % of the total btc own by forum members by rank (ie, the richest dude owns 12%, the top 2 own 20%, the top 3 own 26%, etc...

This data isn't very useful.  Most users use donation addresses in their signature that are separate from their savings in order to preserve some anonymity.

If anything this thread confirms beyond the first address that someone publicly proclaims is theirs it's pretty much impossible to know for a fact who owns what.

For example, I'm shown to own an address (and I do own it), that's empty. But I'm not shown to own another address that I used to advertise nor any of my other addresses with bitcoins..

I love how many people want to try and spy on their fellow Bitcoin users, I suppose this is just a great way of testing whether Bitcoins anonymity is working correctly.

The OP isn't foolishly claiming the numbers he is listing are the total amounts owned by each user. That's just silly. Everyone knows that.

You could also look at this as a "who in bitcoin land chose to make their balances known" exercise. My estimate is roughly correct and since it's never gonna make me ridiculously wealthy, I'm not all that concerned about who knows. If it does make me crazy wealthy...well...I guess people will know that.

Unfortunately, the dataset collected is not representative of "how rich/poor are the forum users". Hence whatever conclusion you would make based on this data in context of the thread title, would be a big steaming pile of nonsense.

All the accounts listed here are at most 'related' to the users. Their relationship, including contribute to/can spend/both/brag about, can't be verified without confirmation from enough users who have dealt business with them.

OMG please please doubleclick on the spaces between the column headers (A,B,C etc) so that all the rows automatically fit and so that we can read all the contents of the cells without clicking on them and each row only takes up one line.

FYI, you can fetch the balance for the addresses with =ImportData("http://blockexplorer.com/q/addressbalance/"&D3) but unfortunately, it isn't practical as google limits the number of external references per spreadsheet to 50 :(

You can also drag down the striped line just above the "1" label to prevent the headers from scrolling when you scroll down the list.

Remember, this doesn't include offline coins - just the addresses these folks have published.  I have quite a few offline coins (some I made, some from Casascius).
