try using CCleaner. i would help you remove/delete unnecesary files left in your computer and dont forget that some software leave something like cookies in your computer, you have to delete those too

EDIT: do you have some alt coin wallet in your PC or happened to have some in the past?

Don't need a tip, but you can use the standard windows disk cleanup tools...

I don't have the english version, so the translation might be off, but there should be an option to clean system files, this option will clean a lot of useless downloads windows keeps (it keeps a downloaded version of all updates it ever did, just in case... this option will clean those ones up).

Or you might try to install 'Uninstall Tool's software. When you deleting some files, this software will do that completely without left anything remains.

I've Cleaner but It'll remove browser's history also, and I don't want it..
Where can I find these cookies?
Yes. I've download some altcoin wallets, and btc wallets, like bitcoin-core, electrum, multibit. and CBX and Raiblock wallet. but I removed most of them. only using electrum and CBX now.

Or you might try to install 'Uninstall Tool's software. When you deleting some files, this software will do that completely without left anything remains.

Thanks I'll try it.

Edit: I've already removed all my useless files and softwares of Disk C. and now thing to delete anymore, I guess.. I should have 15 to 20 GB free out of 50 GB Disk but still have only one 1gb. automatically my local disk space going lost.  >:( >:( :o :o

if you already uninstall all unneccesary software but still your drive C is full maybe its because the user files (e.g. documents, downloads, desktop, music, pictures, etc) was store in drive C. the best way to cure it is to move your files from drive c to drive D.

instructions:

1. make a new folder in drive D, and name it user files. then make new folders of whatever files you want to move. (for example you want to move the download folder to drive d. then make a new folder under your user files in drive d and name it download.

2. after you rename the folder of download, click your user files in drive C and right click download folder, then click properties.

3. in the LOCATION tab, click MOVE and locate the folder that create (your download folder in drive d) then click it to highlight the folder (do not double click as if it would open the folder) then click SELECT FOLDER.

4. click APPLY then YES if its prompt another message.

and thats it, your download file from drive c was move to your drive d folder.

Try to use CCleaner, you can download it here http://download.cnet.com/ccleaner/   =
CCleaner is software to clean junk files and temporary files. then after installing run it and it will clean all the junk files detected by ccleaner, after that if you have a anti virus try to scan C drive.

What is your local disk C: storage? Go to start and run and put %temp% and delete the temorarly files they sometimes can be very large because of the softwares you have installed on your PC. Also do a deep search on the local disk C: and see what is being created (which files) every time after cleaning.

Enable "show hidden files" and delete $RECYCLE.BIN
also empty recycle bin, if you just only delete unnecessary files.
You need to check severally folder sizes, that there it occurred which of programs use lot of space and remove or disable him

it is 57 GB total. I removed Temporary files anyway. only 2 gb got free. although I should have 15 to 20 GB Free.. and I know that 2GB which I released by deleting temp files will lost again.

Enable "show hidden files" and delete $RECYCLE.BIN

You Guys are not getting my problem. I've did all these basic things. I've cleaned my system many times. but my problem is not "low space" my problem is my disk storage getting low without downloading and installing anything.
I've released almost 17 to 25 GB by deleting so many files and softwares time to time. but after some time it again shows me that "You are running out of space"
my local disk getting full automatically. even I didn't downloaded anything there..
I Don't know whats going on..

How many wallets do you have in your computer? All the blockchains may account for your automatic free space lost problem, however it is pretty absurd for that to happen. You might want to run Malware bytes Anti Malware once, hitmanpro too

right click on your (Local disk C) and check compress this disk to save space. or you might have some malware

Try CCleaner, but if you are afraid that It'll remove browser's history, than you can edit this option in settings.

Also if you are using After Effects, Sony Vegas or similar programs, thank clear their cache and your problem will be solved.

If windows reinstall and remove of everything don't works, than use a professional tool Partition Assistant - FREEWARE. With this software, you can resize your Drive C as you wish. You can move free space from other partition (like Drive D) into Drive C, which keeps your system partition more healthy. For instance, you can increase your Drive C from 8.67GB into 16GB very easily and promptly.

I hope one of this method will help you to solve problem.

Hello
Maybe the problem comes from System Restore (creation of restore points or creation of a system image, which take space on the hard drive).
You can find help here:

In the beginning when I started to use window 7, the same problem was also with me, but sooner I found that it is because of automatic window update, whenever an automatic window update occurs you will notice in your programes/file from cpanel that there are some programes (beneficial programes by microsoft) installed on your PC.
So I found it beneficial but as the space on my disk was lower I disabled automatic updates and after then I did not faced any problem like that.

The other solution is that, from your cpanel in your programs, with each update you will find some repeated programs (like you will see a number of versions of C++ and .net, so to keep the space free try to remove the older versions after each updated version is installed.

I hope it will help you.
Thanks.

The culprit is probably windows update files. Windows is downloading updates and keep some of them stored on disk even though they are installed.
There was special Win 7 update to Windows Disk Cleaner available which fixes this problem and you could delete those files.
But it is not mandatory update, and some Win 7 simply don't have this installed. Check yours.

m main things that cause massive amounts of data be hidden and stored.

1  system restore check points
http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/5482/make-system-restore-use-less-space-in-windows-7/
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows/delete-restore-point#1TC=windows-7

2 and 3  hibernation mode and sleep mode https://www.tekrevue.com/tip/comparing-sleep-hibernation-and-hybrid-sleep-on-windows

Only need to do a system backup here and their unless really need to. Never used restore point as not needed in many years. Lot simpler to just make a recovery disc. Hibernation and sleep mode often caused me problems when mining or coming back to system so I 1 keep running and leave running or 2 just close system down. 1 of the 2 or even both use up hdd space.

Use a program called TuneUp Utilities now know as avg tune up. Shame avg took over it but still does the job at kill tuns of stuff and also safely removes lots of stuff including the above and also windows updates that is left behind after doing normal windows updates as it creates a restore point. Will be surprised on how much data gets gobbled up by the above. Hope you solve ya problem

I doubt it was windows update, he would need speedy internet to have 15gb lost in just a second

I suspect either the system restore keep bloating his hard drive or malwares

This. Most likely malware. Malware bytes and Spybot should clean most of it up. Be careful what you download from now on..

You might have gotten hit by a Virus.Try to use Advance system care and do a full scan but before it Goto search in start menu and type " %temp% " and delete everything only 1 file wont get deleted as far as i know skin it if needed then See.

Even if it didn't fixed the issue transfer some Space from other drives to C drive

install avira antivir and remove any other virus scanners

use ccleaner to clean them files and windows cleaning utility. right click on the windows disk - properties- tools cleaner :D

also defraggler another tool has a menu that shows the largerst files on disk.

If you are downloading torrents that might be the issue with incomplete files taking up the space.

One culprit can be windows update. Microsoft started downloading for you in background Windows 10, in case you ever want to install it. That's 4GB, I think.
If you use Bitcoin Core, that's trying to get you the whole blockchain. That's another 80GB. Where to? Depends on how you configured the install. Maybe you should use a light wallet.

OK, that might not be the case. But I would monitor internet bandwidth usage from now on.
It is the only way to see if that additional data is coming from downloads or is created by some sort of malicious malware or dumped by some program running in the background.
For monitoring your bandwidth I would recommend GlassWire.

Try this:

If this don't work then:

2. http://www.partition-tool.com/resource/c-drive-is-out-of-space.htm

If it is not working then your hard drive is dying and you'll need to replace it. It's a common error.

Looks like your trash hidden folder is full of shit and/or temporary files flders are full of shit.

Try to unveil the hidden folders (Total Commander may help) and delete them.

Folders like

TRASH-1000.

System Volume Information

can be the cause

Also

all TEMP and tmp folders or files can be deleted.

Good luck!

Strange that you guys don't have attention, the OP is saying he is using bitcoin core, isn't it 47 GB at least and now the new version even bigger than his C drive of 57 GB.  If you OP have already installed bitcoincore you have to uninstall it of course be careful with wallet.dat if you have some bitcoins in it.  I think Windows as a system is pretty weak and if the problem is not bitcoin core big file, then it is a Windows system and I am afraid only a fresh re-install would help you here.

get a portable hdd and transfer all files on to there and chuck that existing hard drive away. thereafter buy a seagate or wd scorpio black and you should be fine just Remember don't smack you're computer about because it will cause vibrations and those vibrations will render the disk useless or some kind of problem like delays in opening apps and files especially massive files from 1gb and over

The problem dont' seems RAM usage, but his hd.
A application like icloud, dropbox or a blockchain is causing havoc in his system. I had the same thing with my brother's pc a while ago.

Try to download this tool:
https://windirstat.info/

Or any other tool that can count the directory size from the top folder

P.S. in my brothers case it was an open torrent download application. So every time when we removed files, the download filled it again.

My C Derive got full (out of space) once. and I removed lots of useless software and stuffs to clean my Local Disk.. but after some time I found that my local dist again showing me low Disk Space.. even I didn't installed anything on my computer new..

Some one here could help me about that?

I'll give a tip anyone who resolve my problem..

Are you still having issues with your drive? Generally, the things to consider are cleaning your files (ccleaner, disk cleaning), thoroughly uninstalling unwanted programs (iobit uninstaller), looking for threats (spyware doctor, avast). You may also check your task manager to see if your system is on high cpu usage even if it doesn't seem to do a thing, which means you have a process doing probably nasty stuff (a virus).

If you have tried the above mentioned steps and also used a good antivirus and anti spyware program and yet you are unable to clean up the C drive space, then the only option left for you is to backup your data and re-image your machine.

They already said the best ways to solve your problem.
I also had frustrations yesterday about my C: disk space.
But CCleaner solved my problem.
The problem was the temporary files accumulated for a long time and I was not periodically deleting it.
Instead of deleting it manually, I used CCleaner and it worked like a charm.

The best solution for you to just re-windows your computer. format your hardesk, specially C Drive and then again install windows. I think your computer have virus and they won't clean until you format all.

At this point I think that the only real solution available to fix your problem is formatting your drive and installation of fresh OS.
You said that you don't have space for it. Well, SSD and HDD or storage devices in general are now cheaper than ever, bitcoin price is high.

I would be going crazy by now, if problem like yours were present on my PC.

One last thing: have your tried to check if there are some unusual events listed in Microsoft Management Console aka Event Viewer?

☞type this cmd into the small search box and hit enter on keyboard:

%temp%
Prefetch

I also recommend constant use of ccleaner it will help to ensure your computer is free from from those junk files that occupy 60% of available space.

Thanks

Okay so the problem still exists.
Have you tried this?

1. Go to Windows Explorer (Start Menu -> Computer).
2. Type this in the search box -> size:gigantic
3. Wait for a few minutes for the files to load and then you'll see which files uses a lot of disk space.
4. Google for the files if they are useful or safe to delete.

I tried this and it didn't work. I did not now this command or search phrase but windows 7 don't seems 'accept it.' It keeps loading for a few seconds, and then the default search result is shown.
No search result

Disable automatic updates, also check the memory dump file size, its usally 8gb+ so only that can take up allot space.

Yes, The issue is still exist. I've used ccleaner several times. seems that my problem is something else. and yes, I've scan my computer with ant-virus too. there isn't any virus.
Let's assume you ran ccleaner (data/app cleaning and registery cleaning), have you ran disk cleanup? Right click on you hard drive, select properties, then select disk cleanup, once it has ended finding what to clean, click on clean up system files (it will re-run) then examine carefully what it suggests to clean up, generally I clean everything, but if you have a previous installation of windows or if you put you machine on long sleep often you might wanna keep some stuff ... You can also remove restore points. Anyway when you do that you might try to share a screenshot of the result of disk cleanup so that we can guide you through it.

A long/well-established virus won't be detected by an antivirus (no matter how good it is), antiviruses seem to be good at stopping new viruses but seem to be bad at detecting powerfull running ones ... So start task manager when your machine isn't doing anything (close your internet browser), wait for a little time and examine CPU Usage (at the bottom of the window, in the middle) it must be somewhere between 3 (maybe less) and 8 %, if not then you should try to see what's running and using your cpu ....

If you haven't done it, I also advise you to install spybot search&destroy (a free antispyware that works very fine) and look for rootkits. Also install IObit Uninstaller (a free uninstaller program) and examine what is installed on your computer and remove stuff that you really don't know.

You could also use some software to examine the occupied space on your disk (Unfortunately I don't know any for windows).

If only I had your machine under my hands ^^ Anyway don't hesitate to post screenshots.

Hi.

I was reading the solutions, but i cant see tht any one suggest you delete the Temporary files from the Navigator Program like Chrome or Interenet Explorer or Mozilla.

In the three cases you can find in the advanced section the option delete Temporary Files.

I think that this could help.

remember too, check your Program Files in The Control Panel/Programs section.

CCleaner is fine, but if you install it without the advanced way, it installs some anoying stuff that dont help, and in some point the program will ask for the full service program purchase.

I hope this help, i f it helps, you ask for my BTC Wallet for the "tip"  good day.

My C Derive got full (out of space) once. and I removed lots of useless software and stuffs to clean my Local Disk.. but after some time I found that my local dist again showing me low Disk Space.. even I didn't installed anything on my computer new..
so basically my Local Dist Eating my storage automatically and I need a solution for this. I don't want to repair or re-install the windows.

Try to wipe free space, you can use cmd or use CCleaner. Atleast wipe with 3 passes. Also view hidden folders and delete teporary files. Clear cache and unnecessary shortcuts.
If you suspect A VIRUS, try restoring or format for the best.
Format to linux or other OS and then back to Windows if you know what I mean. Good Luck.

The browser temporary files can also be cleaned using ccleaner (you can clean all your browsers at once). In my opinion, the free version of ccleaner does a very good job (cleaning data/app files, the empty space, registries, cookies (in a smart way), etc.). What kind of annoying stuff does ccleaner install? At each update, u can easily update the free version (and not upgrade to the paid version).

emberbekas suggests
Delete all files in this folder :
C:/windows/prefetch

Good Luck!
If your prefetch folder is indeed taking too much space (mine is taking 44 MB), you might consider disabling prefetch once and for all after removing the content of the folder. What is the size of you prefetch folder?

this is not the way to tell something brother. if you have any tip or suggestion then you should describe it properly. only saying that type command and press enter is nothing.

BTW I've type the command and pressed enter. but nothing happened, nor I got my lost space back. lolzz.

The only thing I can say is buy new hard drive that can store your all files or just defrag (http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/how-to/windows/how-defrag-in-windows-7-8-10-3493358/) your hard disk, if you don't know about defrag, Fragmentation makes your hard disk do extra work that can slow down your computer. Removable storage devices such as USB flash drives can also become fragmented. Disk Defragmenter rearranges fragmented data so your disks and drives can work more efficiently. Disk Defragmenter runs on a schedule, but you can also analyze and defragment your disks and drives manually. - microsoft

Also, Just remove your junk files on temp files, just type "run" on start menu and type and enter the "%temp% (http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/how-to/software/how-to-clean-up-the-temp-folder-in-windows-3273110/)" then just remove the all files.

Cheers!

Did you do everything (I really mean everything) that was suggested on this thread? If you did all of it (ccleaner, disk cleanup, system files cleanup, spybot, avast, iobit, defrag, prefetch, check cpu usage) then maybe we should restart from the begining (or give up), otherwise please re-read my posts (and others') and do everything suggested. It would also be helpful to give details (including screeshots) of the size of your hard drive before it filled up and the size after that.
So if you can :
- Tell me the size of your disk (full and empty).
- The cpu usage (post a screenshot of the task manager) when PC is idle (doing nothing).
I will provide you with further instructions once I have these elements.

My goodness what do you mean by nothing happened?
are you sure you are using windows OS?

Ok, when you ran this command %temp% or prefetch did it PULL OUT ANY data's like the one's in the indicated snapshot?

These are the log files consuming available space. you need to press ctrl+A (sellect all) ctrl + c (cut) on keyborad to eliminate these log file

this cmd work same of ALL operation system it's ONLY the interface that differ

Please, check the attached snapshot, i believe this will help you get rid of unwanted packed temp files which are occupying ALL the space in your hardrive.

Alternatively, if, you prefer doing this through the use of software, you can try advance system care tool

Download windirstat from https://windirstat.info/ (https://windirstat.info/)

Run it. Select c drive to analyze. It will take sometime to show the size occupied by each folder in c drive including hidden drives.

Different colors of various sizes will be shown representing the folders. The size indicates the percent of size occupied by that folder in c drive.

Click on the biggest sized colors. Note down the folders name and list it here. I will look into it and tell what exactly making this trouble.
