I think this happened because of a growing demand for bitcoin. we know that the current bitcoin users continues to grow significantly.
because of these factors that make the price of bitcoin increased with ease.

Yes that is the reason why bitcoin is rapidly increasing its price. As we know when there is high demand of something the supply of it is lesser and since many of bitcoin users are holding also their bitcoins. Those people who wants to have bitcoin have no choice but to buy bitcoins which is making the demand higher and helps in increasing the value.

Have you heard of a price bubble? it grows and becomes as big as it gets only because those people buying also know about the bubble but they just keep buying higher and higher prices since they can then sell to next high price buyers and when funds are exhausted with traders deciding to withdraw bubble pops, then we'll see the price to back to normal $780 and starts to slowly increase from there.
Don't forget the new year's spirit of course :).

One of the cause I read on the bitcoins news website is China is trading a huge volume of transactions lately on exchanges. The price of the Yuan decrease and people looking for alternatives to keep they wealth, but many other factors help also on the equation. In the undeveloped countries, bitcoin start to become very popular and gain mainstream adoption.

The Block Reward was cut in half from 25 BTC to 12.5 just a few months ago. This has a trickle down affect with Supply and Demand which we are starting to see now. Combine that with all the fiat currency regulations and restrictions imposed by governments around the world and wha la.

I agree that this is partly just a bubble and we will see the price drop at some point. I still think there will be a gradual increase over time. This increase seems to quick for it not to be some kind of pump.

Like I always said, Bitcoin usually gets the highest price of the year by Christmas. That is because it's the time when everyone goes out and buys gifts, and Bitcoin is used too. Of course the demand is growing, especially with people finding out right now about it from the news wherethey say it's used by terrorists to hide their identity. The bad part here is that this makes most people think it's not a good idea to invest in Bitcoin. It is, you're not helping these terrorists in any way by using it and you're not a terrorist either for using it.

I heard about the price bubble , As of now bitcoin price is 1000$+ and it is still rising , If huge dump happen other starter  bitcoiners might get disappointed with the price and some will just dump it also.
But lets enjoy the bitcoin price at the moment , Lets earn more and more bitcoin.

I don't think the dump will happen anytime soon but even if it does there are some hungry wolves waiting for this dump to buy the bitcoin and this can lead to the price increase again.

There are quite a few factors that impacted the raise in price of bitcoin, halving, christmas (short term) , interest growing bigger and bigger from lot of different countries and people.

It's all of that!
But I think it is important to point out that no one controls Bitcoin!
Sure in China are the biggest miners and the chinese exchanges are having the biggest volume, probably due to zero fees. However they have no control over Bitcoin! No one has!
Bitcoin is growing, evolving and progressing.Possible that it's price was down pressured for a long time so that certain were able to accumulate as much as they could.
And now we are taking off!

This looks like a bubble now but let's hope it will not burst too soon and too loud.
Some dump will follow but that doesn't mean Bitcoin should go to the bottom, maybe some correction back to 900$ or 800$ when the situation goes back stable and then we can go up again but in more moderate way.

You know. Theres many reasons that may affect the bitcoin price. Maybe because some big whales are buying and holding huge amount of bitcoins that affects the price of bitcoin. Bitcoin is really popular right now. Massive buying could cause the price to increase due to limited supply of btc. Look at China and India. Bitcoin there is really in-demand. So no doubt why the price there is different than any countries

I don't think it's all about the Chinese people, come on  :) Is it really more than a $1000 already? I didn't notice that and tyhought it won't be like this. I thought it would take around a year more for btc to get that high. As for the price that has changed, I guess it is nothing special. Btc has is fluctuations. It is 1013 USD already, so the price dropped a bit in a couple of hours. Just keep calm and watch it growing slowly.

There are many factors that contributed to bitcoin price rise in 2016. From the block halvening and brexit to the capital control in China and the indian economic decisions like the withdrawal of the 1000 rupees banknote from the market. Of course that the rising adoption of bitcoin by more and more businesses, corporates and people is playing a significant role on the bitcoin price.

Its becoming harder to get bitcoin for free as well to purchase bitcoin nowadays.

The price for bitcoin has crossed the point of 1000$ three days ago the first time for a long time. But then the price fell. I can say that it happen cause of many people cashed out their coins dew to new year holidays or just cause of the high price.

Well you can say it is due to that, but we cannot omit the factor of manipulation.  This might be a bubble who knows, but I guess this bubble will be greater than 2013 if it is.

Regarding supply and demand, bitcoin had been steadily uptrending ever since last quarter of 2015, there are major drives and campaigns that were launched by different company especially this MLM company that make people from rural areas knowlegeable of bitcoin.  The halving, brexits, decrease of yuan value, events in India and other factor that may contribute people to flock in Bitcoin had happened, the news about Pres. Trumps some officials being Bitcoin advocates.  This maybe the result of it.  And the hype or excitement of people because of bitcoin price surge this last December.  And I think the Bullish bitcoin is just warming up this year :)  So I think I will expect a continuous uptrend of Bitcoin Price.

One of the important factors was the economic changes in China and India. Don't forget that more than a quarter of world's population is in China and India. A big chunk of that turned into a better form of currency, Bitcoins.

pure bubble
there are no reasons to see the price go up x3 in 8 months
i.e. no major companies announced their support for bitcoins,it has not been declared legal tender
or accepted freely around the world, global adoption is low still
hence what we see is speculation, big holders are buying and drivng the price up
what we see now is chinese exchanges and their huge volumes dominate the market and show the price vector to the rest of the world
as long as they are buying in retarded quantities the price is going to rise...
lets hope for better, but bubbles tend to burst, and there could be an abrupt drop in price aka 2013  to repeat the cycle

That's true and acceptable. Bitcoin got fame due to the increased miners in China. On this basis bitcoin has some relation with the China's economic situation. Also now India is playing a big role after demonetization, which grabbed the attention of lots of common people towards bitcoin in a short period. This too an factor for the ongoing price peak.

from 980 (yesterday's price) to $1020 (today's price) is only a 4% rise knowing that things don't look so scary anymore.
and about the rise in my opinion it is mainly because of adoption and also traders who are increasingly rising in number and create a big amount of demand and price of any market is only controlled by supply and demand.

Even in India Bitcoin is acceptable and their is no law against it that is also the main reason of Bitcoin price is raising as in Asian country Bitcoin is moving fast and the growth is very high. Asian users are taking benefit of online income as in conversion to fiat currency the price is very good and low economy users are getting more benefited so it is getting famous very fast

agree. it is the law of marketing. the higher demand is, the higher the price will be.

I think many people are interested in bitcoin nowadays. but some pumpers also affected this, IMO, because in a few years, the price of bitcoin increased by tge end of the year.

I see nobody here can tell why price is going up. Nobody! Supply and demand, halving, more things to do with btc accepting, everyone here is just guessing and that is all we can do here. Maybe is Trump, or Hilary, lets guess more, aliens maybe? Some thread and topics here sound like little kids are playing, maybe thats why nobody take btc for serious.
Chinese definitely! When we dont know what else to say we blame Chinese every time, doesnt matter if its going up or down, they are guilty for everything connected with bitcoins, and litecoin of course.

Well buying in hope of potential gain is one thing, but given the financial crisis a number of countries are having with their national currencies, like India and Venezuela, bitcoin became the best safe haven currency. Some people are also turning to bitcoin to check inflation and surprises from the government.

There is no "price" in currency.
The "price" is 0.
The code is useless if it could be not exchanged to $ or euro.
And on the Market the name is "exchange rate".

Well buying in hope of potential gain is one thing

People is buying in hope to use them to become some chemical products.

At the moments there are a lot of  changes on a political level and low interests of banks.
I think that some people are searching for new and independant ways of investment.
And when you think of the very limited supply of available bitcoins, a few thousand small or medium investors more can really make a very big difference to bitcoin price.
Especially because at a steady climbing price, most of the old holders won't think of selling.

BTC/USD: Bitcoin Prices Up 58% in Fourth Quarter as Bull Run Continues
December 31, 2016 17:41 GMT
Bitcoin soared to new three year highs this week, capping off a stellar fourth quarter that saw demand for crytocurrency rise in the shadow of global economic uncertainty.

The BTC/USD exchange rate was trading at $962.29 at 12:36 pm ET on Saturday, according to CoinDesk. That represents a gain of 0.2% from the previous close. Bitcoin spiked above $978 on Wednesday, its highest since late 2013. Bitcoin is on pace for a quarterly gain of 58%.

China has been largely responsible for bitcoin’s bull run over the past 12 months, with bitcoin-yuan trade surpassing bitcoin-dollar volumes. There is some concern in the market that intent Chinese buying may result in another crackdown by the People’s Bank of China (PBOC), which in 2013 banned financial institutions on the mainland from dealing in the crytocurrency. However, Beijing stopped short of banning bitcoin completely, with investors free to access the currency so long as they understood the risks. Analysts have been quick to point out that the PBOC has been largely hands off since issuing its 2013 warning.

Investors in mainland China have been piling into bitcoin amid growing yuan instability. Others are attracted to the novelty of the coin and its promise of fast and cheap cross-border payments. As for those buying into bitcoin here on the momentum, most of which originates in China, we urge readers to be cautious as by now the PBOC has certainly noticed that the digital currency remains one of the final, and most successful, means of bypassing capital controls in China. Should Beijing mandate that bitcoin no longer be a means to illegally transfer capital offshore, there is risk of a dramatic, and sharp, drop in its price.

It is no surprise to see such an appreciation in the price of bitcoin as halving is over with increasing demand which is caused by various events all around the world. We cannot ignore the manipulation of price of bitcoin. But it is good to see bitcoin price above $1000. I will be happy to see bitcoin building a strong support on $1000 level.

The fundamental effect is the general usage of the bitcoin. The more people using it, the higher the price.

You halving already provides a good amount and to simply say that its doubles the value at that time and now its due to because of Christmas and holidays pump and then hopefully its moving up still.

I can't know, and am convinced that predicting the price of the exact dates ... I refuse to participate in it. I can only say that, if the current trading volume in China will continue, sell orders will be swallowed up in the game of PacMan, and it could spur a new round of growth in the price of bitcoins.

One of the important factors was the economic changes in China and India. Don't forget that more than a quarter of world's population is in China and India. A big chunk of that turned into a better form of currency, Bitcoins.

Yes certainly the boost is coming from China miners mostly, as well as the many new users from India. But after demonetization in India, and Physical Gold Investment risk made many peoples think about BTC investments, but not all the common peoples.

Sorry, but i don't know why price bitcoin increase quickly, yesterday i see price bitcoin is 967$ and today price is 1034$, what's happening?
Many people talk to me Chinese control Bitcoin, some people talk me demand of bitcoin increase so price bitcoin increase. Who should i believe?

I guess it is because the total demand of bitcoin now continue to grow rapidly which causes its high value.
Many countries increases their bitcoin supply because there are many buyers of bitcoin nowadays.

it's true it is just because the demand on bitcoin is increasing Chinese doesn't have the control of bitcoin probably there are many people in china who are buying bitcoin so that the price value increased . I wonder why many people are believing that china has the control of bitcoin and its price . ;D

they don't control it per se
but they have very big influence over it,also chinese exchanges  are the price trendsetters, usually
every price move starts at Huobi or okcoin or other and then is reflected by the US or european or japanese etc. exchanges
simply compare the trading volumes if you don't believe me,not even talking about the miners and pools here, just the trading

But the value is now decreasing right. This is also happening due to now holidays and Christmas was end. This is simply we are having in every year. Simply supply and demand making this stock costlier and cut off the value.

Normally during December price do spike like this and the rally it had from $800 was astonishing as it was the first time i am witnessing it and it went over $1200 and with the recent rumor and news from china a massive sell off is expected and that is what is happening now.

I feel the decrease has come in due to the conditions stabilisinf In India, the China impact is also slowing down. But what makes me think more is the policies of the current president elect Trump. What's he gonna do next is scary. First he defends Russia now accuses it. His policies are really getting weird. Wonder will that affect the price In any way.

what you said about India is less than speculation it is pure guesswork. and since India didn't have much effect on the rise, it has no effect on the fall either.
and about the fall i have to say it is only a simple correction because of the big and fast rise and we are already up about $120 from the last price level.

and what you said about Trump i have to say his stance about bitcoin has been good, specially with his picks so i am still positively hopeful about it.

It is also possible that this correction will soon be followed by another one in the other direction, kind of like a wave pattern. I also do not believe India has absolutely any sort of effect. This is purely the bubble bursting, which is to be completely expected. It seems to be coming back up after the low of ~$800, albeit I do admit I have not been following it that closely.

The number one reasons that affects the price of bitcoin is many is were dumping no more is buying and that would litteraly could pull off the price. Many spends btc and yet few is buying, and to circulate the economy both buying and selling must be proportional so that economy of btc will always acquire big price of its value.

Or dumping a lot of bitcoins, thats why we have this drop. This can be a reason of bitcoin price behavior, somw group with big stash of btc dumped all coins and now its good chance for shorting, maybe price will drop more, and they will buy bitcoins again.
Jaxelrell said it good mayve, original purpose of alt-coins is to be pumped and dumped, bitcoin is not different from that.

I was thinking the same thing but that is the right conclusion to come up with when it comes to the price increase.
The media started to push it's stories and headlines *after* the price rose past $1000 per bitcoin. So this mass infux of people becoming aware of it and then buying some could not have created this pump in price.
The dump is because of the possible speculation on how it will continue to perform at this level and that was shown in the dump and then the decrease in price.
And that usually is at a bigger level then the increase. So that the level where we stand today.

If you look at the all time graph, the mean line is higher than it was during the 2013 peak, this means the volume and marketcap is way healthy. The angle of ascension in 2013 was insanely steep, and so was the fall, this rise to 1000+ was way slower, which means the correction will be way smoother. 800$ may be the new floor, maybe 700$, who cares. Long term = rich as fuck.

Yes its right but someone told me that some chineese people bought around 5000 bitcoins and they are trying their best to hike the price but anyways maybe its just a hype.

Holders panic because of the price was really shocked us they panic sell all their bitcoin because they totaly hit their profit if they start selling it so many of the people who holds lots of bitcoin are already sold and waiting for the price to be decrease so they will start buying and start holding them again.

The answer is the "Whale" player. Some people that have more than 1000+ bitcoins. The whale player can't control the price but they can change the price quickly. Lets say 1-3 whale players sell all their coins, so it's around 3k+ coins. It will make the price change quickly and other people will follow them by selling all their coins. Because they are scare for dropping price.

Well primarily that reasons affected a lot in the price of bitcoin, so the high spike of btc price stopped other buyers to buy bitcoin that time price is higher because its very expensive so they hold it for several days. It came to a moment btc price strikes lower price and those happy buyers waited to happen and yet they're buying again for holding next investments.

All Asian exchanges, not only Chinese had higher rates last week then others.
Trump elections did not made CNY value decrease, but made USD value increase, since CNY rate did not change to other currencies, but USD did raise a lot in last months.

I could agree that there could be speculation of CNY devaluating more.

Of course I am saying this only of last few weeks when price went $900+  before I dont think Asian exchanges had so much higher prices.

Increase quickly, drops even faster, characteristic of bitcoin currency. What has affected this time on price is hard to tell, there can be many reasons why, and just wild guessing is same as gambling, picking one number from all others hoping you will makeba hit.
Supply and demand is what affected price this time, before holidays people rush to buy bitcoins and everything else, now is time when we are resting from new year and all other holidays.
