Title: Translation of BFL update
Post by: smoothie on April 18, 2013, 08:40:10 PM
so nothing is wrong with the BFL chips other than they completely missed their power specifications??

This is the biggest bullshit statement ever. The whole point of ordering an ASIC is the power efficiency. Without that the chips are just as useless as doing SHA256 by paper and pencil. Rofl lol omfg haha

15 April 2013 Update

Short update today, more to come in the next day or two, hopefully.

We've been working on getting the software and firmware nailed down. Things are mostly stabilized at this point and with our current boards (we do not have the redesigned boards in house yet), power usage exceeds the 1w/GH, unfortunately, but it's much better than anything out by 40 - 50%, at the wall. We are gearing up to start shipping out some dev boards and a few Jalapeno's most likely this week (at least a few dev boards) and then as more chips roll in we'll be shipping out the Jalapeno's. When the new boards land in KC, we'll start shipping Little Singles and Singles at that time. I don't currently have a time frame for those, but I should have something later this week in regards to that.

Obviously, the minirig can't fit 1.5 TH/s in a case the size of what we were planning, but we have some interesting solutions with regards to that. Expect and update on there as well, but I did want to let everyone know we have several solutions to solve the minirig issue and we are moving forward on that front.

I did want to quash any rumors that there was something wrong with the chips; there isn't. The chips themselves are fine (other than using more power than we expected), the delay is strictly due to having to re-engineer the power system on the boards (which requires a larger PCB redesign to a degree) and refine/streamline our processes for getting chips from silicon to mounted on boards. Things will be rolling along soon, albeit a bit slow at first, and then picking up speed as the whole process is optimized and finalized.

I sneaked into BFL last night.

Wasn't easy. They have lazers and genetically engineered attack dogs.

Took a lot of work but got an actual picture of the new Mini-Rig design.  It's a little, little bit off of on the power per hash predictions, and a little larger, but it is still worth at least 300 November '12 bitcoins:

"BitForce SC Jalapeno: a USB powered coffee warmer providing 3.5 GH/s, priced at under $149"

That "USB powered" sure looks like a power spec to me.

You're mistaken. Also there was no competition back then. BFL torpedoed the FPGA market with their premature ASIC vaporware announcement, then further solidified their position as lead vaporware dealer with their unrealistic power simulations.

Market manipulation followed up with lies and more lies.

You know I'd almost be more impressed by BFL if they planned to fail as much as they have; or it was an elaborate profit making scam. But I think it has been an accident and they are just borderline incompetent.

Not that they think they are a scam. But even if they started shipping in big volume tomorrow it will still have been a complete disaster for anyone who ordered anything from this company.

It was a scam from day one. At no point in 2012 did they posses the ability to ship the ASIC mining pre-orders they sold, yet they repeatedly led investors to believe shipping was imminent. Six months after their original shipping date has come and gone there's less guidance now on when product shipments will actually commence. That's not incompetence, it's fraud.

Micon, Where is the bet where Inaba bet 1000 btc and why is he not wearing a scammer tag?

There isn't one.  Bryan Micon refused to bet on his statements.   His claim, much like Frankie's, was that BFL is a scam and will never ship a product.  When pressed to back up those words, he refused and instead (again, like Frankie) offered different terms where BFL's power and ship dates would be in the immediate future... clearly showing that Bryan Micon is a liar, since he makes a claim, then claims to be a gambler, then refuses to bet on his claim without all sorts of ludicrous caveats.

Bryan Micon, the consumate scammer.  Sells a failed poker system that he knows doesn't work and is the laughing stock of the poker world, just like his reputation.

You seem pretty cocky for someone that is shipping a substandard product over six months after he started saying he was shipping in two weeks.   Why don't you just admit you were wrong and start apologizing to some of the people that told you what was wrong with your "designs" and then try to regain some credibility?

The same holds true with the wager. They announced 1000 BTC they owe 1000 BTC.

A Project Manager reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer, in this case Josh. I'm not sure who the PM is at BFL, but if there isn't one, then Josh, as COO, takes on that role as well. Either way, since the PM reports to the COO, the COO is aware of everything that happens in which the PM is in control of. If the COO doesn't know what's happening, then there's major problems at BFL.
