Well said, my brother.  " ICO" is a ripoff term inspired by "IPO" from the stock market.   And just like the stock market,  most suckers don't make money investing in them.  It's even worse on crypto because of the lack of regulation and the general scamminess of those involved in them.  I wouldn't bother sinking a penny into any ICOs.

Basically Initial Coin Offering or ICO rom what I undertand is a way of a project to crowdfund their project by offering tokens or coin to early investors before it wven hits the market. In that way, ICO participants will have the advantage to get more tokens with discounts compared to what will the price of the coin in the market once it's realeased. they use the money they gather on ICO for further development of the project and sometimes for marketing as well.

ICO is like a call for capital contribution of the project, each project has an ICO. During the ICO, they will sell their coins, and after that, the proceeds will be used to develop their projects.

ICO is basically a kickstarter or a crowd fund raising for a new coin project. There are scams, but there's still a lot of legit ICOs out there. Investing in existing coins is really risky already, imagine investing in coins that are not even out yet and only few people knows.

ICO's could have many parallels in business and finance.

An ICO could be compared to OTC derivatives bought/sold by banks. That may be a controversial statement. An example of a derivative is subprime mortgages. Banks take derivative assets related to mortgage markets (and other things) & tries to profit by selling them at inflated prices the same way an ICO takes an derivative asset related to crypto coins and attempts to sell those at overinflated prices.

It might be fair to say, the name of the game isn't building wealth or value so much as it is selling things like subprime mortgage derivatives or ICO'ed coins at prices inflated past what they're worth. Whether we're discussing regulated markets in the case of derivatives or less regulated markets in the case of alt coins, there isn't necessarily a difference. Regulation doesn't make markets safer or decrease fraud, it only raises the bar to entry for anyone who isn't filthy rich to not participate.

An ICO is what it stands for, an initial coin offering.

These are conducted to raise funds for the project through the distribution of the token or coin for another coin (either fiat or BTC).

Whilst it parallels with an IPO, this does not entirely represent giving up equity in the company as these do not have a share value. ICO's act rather as a blend between crowd funding and an IPO.

Many of the above comments refer to these as scams however they lack insight into why these can be used, and the benefits of these. By hosting ICO's, new projects are able to generate funds which assist in the development costs and the capital required to get a system off the ground. These are not free.

More systems brings more users, which in turn leads to more exposure for everybody in the market. Ethereum is good for the longevity of bitcoin, and for the value of this. If you hope to see Bitcoins success you shouldn't bash every competitor in the market.

ICO basically means initial coin offering. this is where a ceratin project is offered in the crowd to be funded. this is where the investors buy the coin of the project if the project is good and if it would help the society.

Some of these coins are trading quite well and people who have bought them made money. ICO is just a way of funding, it's not always a scam and it's not always honest. It all depends on the people behind the coin. It's like a knife, one guy will cut bread and another will use it to stab you.

ICO has become very popular lately as there are so many projects now taking advantage of the ICO platform to raise funds for their ideas and to add more capital to existing business. Right now, the legality of ICO is still grey as there remains to be no black-and-white legal framework which it can stand on. Nevertheless, its popularity is very noticeable.

ICO means Initial Coin Offering and this is almost similar to the corporate IPO (Initial Public Offering) where project proponents are accepting money/funds/coins in return for tokens of the project. ICO in many cases does not signify being co-owners of the project and this is something that should be cleared later.

You can look on ICO in a different way.
It is the easiest way for new small companies to go on the market. To raise funds to improve the job.A very good opportunity for all startups
Earlier it was done over Pink sheet market, But it is necessary to fulfil certain conditions
Of course, As everywhere there are those who are trying to deceive the system and scam people for money. Not all can be marked as scam because of few idiots

ico is no different than an airdrop or the old giveaway that were plaguing the ANN in the past, the difference is that you need to pay, and therefore they are not free

they are also very similar to IPO, that were very present in the past years, now this changed to ico but they work essentially the same, avoid ico that are only small contract for eth and maybe focus on the one that have also POW like ETH...

Very well said but there are ICOs which are still promising though even its already famous when it comes to scam purposes. If you aren't aware or careless enough how to spot a scam ICO then you will surely lost your money. Back to topic, ICO is crowdfunding which a certain project do need funds in able to established or develop it and when it succeed then its really an advantage for those who have invested their money on.

Generally you have to know more about every single ICO you invest in. It really depends on a lot of factors like the developers, the investors, the project itself, it's purpose, etc. So there is really no general rule for every ICO. You will learn it along the way as you invest in more ICOs.

To my knowledge ICO Extension of Initial Coin Offering. Initial means the earliest, Coin means digital token / coin and Offering means bidding, when interpreted in its entirety means the earliest coin offerings before launch into the free market. ICO is usually offered by the developers where their goal is to raise funds to develop the project they do in this case is a digital coin. They need funds to maximize the projects they undertake to quickly develop and be quickly completed.

Quite simply, it means when a company/business is launching their altcoin or token to the public for the first time, you can buy it during an "ICO". It is like when a company goes public on the stock market it is called an "IPO", or "Initial Public Offering". Hope this helps. :)

I agree that the whole idea of ICOs is genius and very useful to encourage people who have deep thoughts and low funds to give it a try. However, I don't think that if there really were only a few idiots scamming people, icos would have such a reputation which they have now. Unfortunately, I believe that mostly these projects are done to rob people by the newly released coin being dumped. And yet some coins appear to be standing for some real ideas. Like waves, for example. Nobody dumped it and it really offers people some unique things with customizing tokens.

ICO or initial coin offering is launched by the developers or group of people to get some funds for their project so they don't need to put their own money and also to seek to other people because they just need to set up an online website and put all the basic and common information that is needed for the possible investor so the investors can understand their product or project.

ICO - Initial Coins Offering  This is the start of new Altcoins and this is also your chance to earn a great deal on Investment or Bounty to give them a great advantage of those who have been here before and if you are going to be your millionaire first. But be careful because not all are true and can only be foolish to get us btc. So it's better to be careful when looking and before going through everything they can do in the world of crypto and in our lives.

That is really sad of you for diluting the idea like ICO in the pool of scam! For me ICO is one of the best form of crowdfunding. No doubt company is always the one that makes most profit from ICO but still investors can get huge returns if they choose right project.
Unlike IPOs where investors get stake in company's capital, ICOs enable investors with cryptocurrency which become separate entity from company once ICO ends and gets its value from market demand/supply. However, company indirectly affects the coin value even after ICO and if company's project integrates coin, it may raise future value as well as demand of coin.

The initial coin offering concept designed to distribute the shares of the particular project to the people who are early investors in the project. That's perfect time for the investors who are willing to invest and get paid back for their "risky stakes" into that particular project. It will also represent you as "shareholder" of that entity or organisation who offered you the token/coin in the initial offering.

You can follow more about the ICO here :- http://www.investopedia.com/terms/i/initial-coin-offering-ico.asp

Yes you are right. ICOs sell a right of ownership (coins) to a project. During an ICO, the investors buy the coins of the company. These coins can appreciate or increase in value depending on the project if it becomes successful. As for an Initial Public Offering (IPO) or stock market launch, the shares of the company are sold to institutional investors in order to raise the expansion of their capital.

yes, sad to think that there are other people who did not fully understand the goal of ico. some ico will have the intention to scam people's money but they will not succeeded. you dont have to invest in every ico that will launch, of course you have to choose the best for you.

highly agree, some people tend to say that this are also schemes that intended to scam people, but i don't think so. maybe few but not all of them, since there is no improvements without risking money or risking something or anything to move forward. so far from the previous ICOs that has being launched most of them are already successful.

What ICO means? it is a Crowdfunding. ICO is raising or opening because they want to raise a particular amount to fund their project and so the investors or participants who will join is like a contribution for the project to be successful and to move on in its designed or planned projects after the successful ICO.

ICO is just a fund raising platform for a specific a coin, the main objective of an ICO is to raise funding and contribution through proper advertisement for the project from public who are willing to invest in. Some ICOs are very promising but some of them are scams, so it is always be a huge risk to invest in an ICO.

Technically, ICO is something that is offered at a discount price when it is launched so if some company is willing to launch their XYZ coin or token, instead of directly launching it on the exchanges, it would go through ICO mode. If the expected price of XYZ coin in 1000 Satoshi then during ICO, the same ICO is offered at a lower price (it might be anything like 25% off). It is like rewarding those who are adopting that coin in the early phase and taking a risk on it.

However, not every ICO is genuine that means, ICO announcers run away after collecting money from others without proceeding further so if you come across any ad on Google, Facebook or anywhere (I am sure most us are included in the targeted audience) then do a deep research before investing even a single Satoshi.

When someone says Ico it is Initial coin offering but don't just invest into it much better if you make an research about their company their projects and before they will launch since they're lots of scammers who just created a project that will offer an good income once you invested their some of icos nowadays are not that good. But when you analyze first and make an research before you will do investment you will see the differences.

An ICO means initial coin offerings to start or crown fund a currency thst wasn't release it the market yet. It's selling their tokens or coins with discount that's not even release in the market yet. An ICO only gets legit if there are a lot of investor of the token/coin but if it's not they turn out to be a scam im planning on investing in this kind of platforms ever. Imagine the risk of investing in an already existing altcoin. How much more can a non-existing one? It's like investing in cloud minings.

ICO stands as initial Coin Offering it is a form a form of investment through crowndfunding to fund their project proposal through service, ICO is not merely a product as what some crowdfunding and kickstarter did but a service of a cryptocurrency or a blockchain and their coin act as a token of their service some abused the ICO for scamming purpose but some ICOs had good intentions.

Yes, there is a lot of ICO's that are turning into scam and we should be careful in investing in ICO's and to be able to avoid or prevent the scams then we should do a lot of research about the particular ICO and we should read the whitepaper carefully and examine the teams that behind of that project so we can only take smaller risks.

As everyone told you about these that not every ICO are legitimate to make money so may be you should aware in better way before to invest in this field of cryptocurrency.
Here ico means that sell of coin before launching or before the complete of the devlopment of the coin .
Here are the Google words
Initial coin offering (ICO) is an unregulated means of crowdfunding via cryptocurrency. The term is often confused with 'token sale' or crowdsale, which refers to a method of selling participation in an economy, giving investors access to the features of a particular project starting at a later date.
It means that nothing is sure whether in what amount is available in the market to use but owner sell directly without any scaling price also .
But in these days it is common for most investors to invest in ICOs because ICOs investment are now like the simple trading of the coins at exchange , At most of the trading sites we can get better and easy way to buy and sell in ICOs that means totally like the trading at exchange with any coin ( but can't transfer from exchange ) .

Sure, is it realistic all of the 300+ altcoins would be successful? NO WAY. Most of them are going to fail, it is inevitable. It is only a matter of time. And all the money goes back into Bitcoin... as usual. Bitcoin is the king and it will stay that way. LONG LIVE BITCOIN! hehehe

I'm not really good at explaining, and i don't really understand well about this but i'll try to tell you.
In my opinion, or what i think, ico is like the time when a project starts to sell their token or coin. They do this to collect money for their project to success, and we are the investors. We buy their coin or token and invest in it. Usually, ico is succesful if there are many investors and they get many btc or eth. And if the ico is success, there will be many people want to buy the coin or token, and that time we can sell our token or coin at high price and gain profit.
That's all i know, but i may be wrong too. Please kindly correct me if my statement is wrong.

ICO stands for Initial Coin Offering. An unregulated means by which funds are raised for a new cryptocurrency venture. An Initial Coin Offering (ICO) is used by startups to bypass the rigorous and regulated capital-raising process required by venture capitalists or banks

ICO or Initial Coin Offering is involved with high risk. A system which through developers or group of people collect fund among the interested investors. You should research that specific project before involved.

ICO is same as issuing shares but it is not regulated. What i mean is a company first has to take the permission from atock market regulation and they set a number of how many shares a company can issue in the case of ico as it isn't regulated companies can issue unlimited amount of coins and raise endless amount of funds if peoplenare willing to invest

Quiet odd for a Senior Member to ask about on what is ICO but well I would answer you.. ICO (Initial Coin Offering) is one of the ways of the devs on scamming people  ;D This sounds funny but this is the reality because having ICO would really make them money and some of them end up on scamming people. This ICO works as a crowdfunding on a certain project.

Too much negativity was spread because of those ICO based tokens that end up being a scamcoin. We cant stop those but still they are good companies that uses it for a better crypto currency.

,it is sad to say that it is reality, when an investor risk their money to something like ICO and doesn't have any idea what is he joining or it would ended up being scam then the ones who will suffer is the investor. you need to be wiser if you are going to gamble or risk your money to invest into ICO, always check what are you going to enter or join.

which I know ICO (Initial Coin Offering) is a fundraising effort to build Blockchain-related applications and implementations such as cryptocurrency, bitcoin, smart contract and smart ledger.ICO offers a number of tokens to investors commonly appreciated by Cryptocurrency such as Bitcoin. ICO can also be interpreted in its entirety to mean the earliest coin offerings prior to launch into the free market.

Based on my knowledge and idea about ICO, it is a crowdsale where a groups or organizations are raising a fund or offering a new cryptocurrency basically known as altcoin sometimes a token for a lower value which is often expected that the value will increase after the crowdsale .

ICO itself is fundraising for building applications related to Blockchain and its implementation such as bitcoin, smart contract, and smart ledger. To note, Bitcoin and other currencies are built on technology called Blockchain. However, not many people know that Blockchain technology can be used for other uses, such as building a decentralized database. Many developers are using this method to raise funds to develop their projects.

ICO is the revolution of our time, is the new way to do business.
Before some time in order to start a new business and make an idea real you had to find investors, this was't an easy task and most ideas where stay for ever in minds. Now with crypto technology you can find easy investors to support you to make your ideas.

An ICO sells Tokens, which can represent shares of your project or Tokens that can buy services from your project when its done.

This is what actually an ICO is.
Some people get benefit from this and they scam other people, but this is what is happening to new things, need sometime to grow and stabilized.
We have already many good projects from ICOs, the whole idea works from the benefit of all of us.
Those who hate ICOs probably want you to buy some bitcoin or the coin they hold.

Initial coin offering. You do not know what the market will be like when a cryptoproject, that is in ICO stage now, gets listed on exchanges. So I’m not holding back. If the project is good and i believe in the added value to the space i will invest in it to support the innovation it is bringing. Eventually i will get my returns. Only problem now is that you have to have fiat to spare because there aren’t many profits on existing investments to reinvest in new projects.BTW i’m also investing in good existing projects that are low (near/below ICO) priced.

I personally think ICO is a gathering of startup developers with some investors to raise funds to give capital to developers or startups that make ICO because actually ICO sort of for fundraising and you also will be able to get his results back by giving token or coin to restore the capital you have given them.

ICO is the short name of Initial Coin Offering. It means that someone offers investors some units of a new cryptocurrency or crypto-token in exchange against cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin or Ethereum. The pre-created token can be easily sold and traded on all cryptocurrency exchanges if there is demand for them.

An ICO or initial coin offering is  created to funds the newly created coin that has not yet listed in any exchanger.Their coin is still at its lowest price that can attract investors to invest.Their project needs a massive fund raising event inorder to earn money to use it on their project that can make their project successful.
Investors could contribute to this project in raising funds. Its quite risky for investors because nowadays there were lot of scammers.Like what had happen in the ICO that i have been joining, although im not an investor but i join their signature campaigns inorder to promote their new project. As we go through it went so smoothly and as the token sale and the ICO has ended, lately weve realized that we are scammed. We didn't get any in payment of our hardwork.Seem so annoying but theres nothing we could do to get our payments.Be careful on pouring money and hardwork in ICO.

Imagine this: You're a Silicon Valley startup with a great idea for a new cryptocurrency system. Perhaps you want to streamline the Parent/Babysitter payment system so that it can be digital and encrypted. What a great idea! Let's call it BabyCoin. The only problem is you need people to give you money so you can actually make the currency. Now, you could go to a bank or try getting venture capitalist investors, but what if you could raise money without having to give up any of your ownership of the company? Well, you can create an ICO.
Here's how it works, You create a document essentially detailing exactly how the system would work (white paper), make a pretty website and explain why its a great idea that could be very useful. Then, you ask for people to send you money (usually Bitcoin or Ether, but you can also take fiat) and in return you send them back some BabyCoin. They hope that BabyCoin will get used a lot and be in high circulation, which would raise the value of the currency.
Its important to note that unlike an Initial Public Offering (IPO), investing in an ICO won't result in you having an ownership stake of the company you're giving money to. You're betting that the currently worthless currency you pay now will increase in value later and earn you money.

ICO is rather risky business, so you need to know, which is worth paying attention to to protect yourself from possible risks. Practically everyone says that you need to find out about the team. But on this your search should not end.
1. You need to familiarize yourself with the project budget and make sure that it is as transparent and understandable as possible.
2. The future of the project can be affected by the choice of a blockchain platform.
3. It is worth paying attention to the legal form of the company, first of all to check that the start-up has a legal entity registered.
4. A good sign for an investor can be a successfully conducted pre-ICO.
5. If specialized professional funds participate in the ICO, this is also a positive indicator.
6. It is important that the project has positive feedback from members of the blockchain community and approving references in top international media.

ICO expansion is Initial Coin Offering, a company or a country introduces a crypto and give away for free is called airdrop. Once many users have that the same company or country will launch its coin and sell it to public to acquire market share is called ICO. There are so many ICO in recent days and 1 out of 10 is successful.

If a ICO is not successful acquiring market cap as desired then it will not continue and we call that as scam.

This ICO is usually offered by developers to COLLECT THE FUNDS to develop the projects they do in this case is digital coin. They need huge funds to maximize the projects they undertake to quickly develop and can be quickly completed due to limited funds in the team's developers. The advantage for investors who follow ICO before the coin is launched to the free market is the price given will be cheaper. And usually when the coin is launched the price will jump high when the coin is received by the market. This is what makes investors enjoy this ICO.
Behind the profits there must be disadvantages that come to him. Because ICO is investing in nature then we spend money and give to third parties and the money may not be used according to the agreement when the ICO is in take run or their web hit by HACKer or various events without any explanation that is clear or more in the know with SCAM.
We must know who the people behind this ICO project and the background whether he has the capacity in the world of crypto so that the data needed POD [Proof Of Development] for proof.
For ICO itself, from what I know from the existing 100 ICOs, its 90 SCAMs. So wise in investing and loving your money.

Risk is always there either you are going to invest your money in a currency or in an ICO, in both cases you do not have any idea that what is going to happen with the market. But i do not think that there is any other way through which one can get money without involving the risk of losing money. We should take the risk if we want to make money.

ICO in accordance to all my knowledges are entities that sell their own renditions od cryptocurrencies even before they became known in the market. With this they could fund their project to further develop it and then it could potentially increase their user base. It's counter intuitive if I do say so myself. It means that someone offers investors some units of a new cryptocurrency or crypto-token in exchange against cryptocurrencies like bitcoin or etherium Since 2013 ICOs are often used to fund the development of new cryptocurrencies. The pre-created token can be easily sold and traded on all cryptocurrency exchanges if there is demand for them.

The ICO purported both the goods sides and the negative aspects along the line. What I mean by the good sides of this Initial Coin Offering is when the legit or serious minded ones releases significant discounts for those that actually invested during these periods, where the prices may becomes almost double after when the ICO becomes successful. Though this initial coin invested is also used by these Developers in various ways propagating the successful flow of their project. Secondly, the bad or negative aspects of the ICO is to the Scammers that seized this very opportunity to terrorize investors coins by way of deceit with fabulous websites and unimaginable team managers. But at the end, many shall lost their coins invested. And this is of course the more reason why I am very restrictive when it comes to investing in ICO no matter how sweetened or Deceitful their whitepaper might be.

ICO is basically a kickstarter or a crowd fund raising for a new coin project. There are scams, but there's still a lot of legit ICOs out there. Investing in existing coins is really risky already, imagine investing in coins that are not even out yet and only few people knows.

Based on my understanding ICO stands for Initial Coin Offering,  Which offer to all investors a new projects of cryptocurrencies tokens. In exchanges against bitcoin and ethereum.  They have to promote their soft cap and the hard cap so that they will be inform if their project is accepted by many investors.

ICO- Initial Coin Offerings:An initial coin offering (ICO) is a means of crowdfunding centered around cryptocurrency, which can be a source of capital for startup companies. In an ICO, some quantity of the crowdfunded cryptocurrency is pre allocated to investors in the form of "tokens," in exchange for legal tender or other cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin or Ethereum. These tokens become functional units of currency if or when the ICO's funding goal is met and the project launches.

The ICO or the Initial Coin Offering is one the good way to collect funds and investors to establish or develop a good projects. It is usually the it is performed by the bounty bunter in the bounty campaigns. I made some research for you about What is ICO? and what is main purpose of ICo and also what are the connection of ICO's to blockchain technology and cryptocurrency.

Click here to read more information about ICO. https://blockgeeks.com/guides/initial-coin-offering/

Initial Coin Offering (ICO)'
When a cryptocurrency startup firm wants to raise money through an Initial Coin Offering (ICO), it usually creates a plan on a whitepaper which states what the project is about, what need(s) the project will fulfill upon completion, how much money is needed to undertake the venture, how much of the virtual tokens the pioneers of the project will keep for themselves, what type of money is accepted, and how long the ICO campaign will run for. During the ICO campaign, enthusiasts and supporters of the firm’s initiative buy some of the distributed cryptocoins with fiat or virtual currency. These coins are referred to as tokens and are similar to shares of a company sold to investors in an Initial Public Offering (IPO) transaction. If the money raised does not meet the minimum funds required by the firm, the money is returned to the backers and the ICO is deemed to be unsuccessful. If the funds requirements are met within the specified timeframe, the money raised is used to either initiate the new scheme or to complete it.

Initial Coin Offering is the initial placement of coins (tokens). During the ICO, the project team sells digital tokens for crypto-currencies or fiat money to investors. Later, these coins can be used on the project platform as an internal currency or it is possible to trade them on exchanges.

ICO is a great definition for Initial Coins Offering that deals with a project and it's product to have a promotion to conduct a token as distribution when the project is successful in the end.
Well that is right but there are so many problems related with this ICO thing. The first and most important is checking where an ICO is legit or not. There are so many stories and complaints about ICOs being scam at the end. Due to decentralization, we can even check from which source this ICO came but still, there are some legit ICOs presented here on this forum, trust them only.

ICO = "Initial Coin Offering"

Quite simply, it means when a company/business is launching their altcoin or token to the public for the first time, you can buy it during an "ICO". It is like when a company goes public on the stock market it is called an "IPO", or "Initial Public Offering". Hope this helps. :)
it seems that the input you provide can also help inform me.

ICO means Initial Coin Offering. This is a stage in the crowdfunding in which the investors are able to buy tokens for a certain amount of cryptocurrency (there is a minimum value trade) and at a specific rate that is mentioned. It is good to document your self regarding the project you want to invest in, there are serious people but there are also scams.

Good explanation. I agree with what you have said, people must really be patient enough to do a lot of research about the project and the developers behind the project that they are thinking of investing into because scams are all over the place and without due knowledge, anyone can be easily scammed. This is what every investor must pin into their minds if they do not want to be like the thousands of investors that have lost a lot of capital because of carelessness or being too lazy to do their own research.

This is a new way for a startup to get capital from the public, to finance the development of a project. Commonly called crowdfunding. This is easier to do, and has less risk, than proposing to the bank, or looking for large investors manually, with presentations directly.
Actually this is a good way, because many people can be investors with little funds, and as a guarantee, usually startup offers tokens or coins with a certain value, and gives bonuses, also offers other benefits. Each startup offers different offerings, and within a certain period the company will provide a market as a tool to measure the value of coins and exchange.

But sadly, many projects are not qualified, products that do not match the promise, or the split of a team, so that affect the project. and worst of all, some people take advantage of this for their own profit, cheating the ICO participants, robbing investors' money when the ICO is running. there are still many more ways, and many fraudulent stories in the ICO world. So be careful in choosing an ICO as an investment tool. and if you choose this path, do not expect big profit in one night.

Furthermore, it is a way to raised money or funds for the said project to be realized or materialized. Investors are needed to fund the project depending on its viability, profitability and its potential. why whitepaper  and roadmap is important in order for the investors to decide. Aside from that people behind the project is also important as a matter of trust.

Initial Coin Offering or we also call it ICO is an unregulated means by which funds are raised for a new cryptocurrency venture. An Initial Coin Offering (ICO) is used by startups to bypass the rigorous and regulated capital-raising process required by venture capitalists or banks. In an ICO campaign, a percentage of the cryptocurrency is sold to early backers of the project in exchange for legal tender or other cryptocurrencies, but usually for Bitcoin.

Well said, my brother.  " ICO" is a ripoff term inspired by "IPO" from the stock market.   And just like the stock market,  most suckers don't make money investing in them.  It's even worse on crypto because of the lack of regulation and the general scamminess of those involved in them.  I wouldn't bother sinking a penny into any ICOs.
why so rude about ico?have you been a victim once thats why youre too bitter about them?😂

Well ico is a team(of scammers ofcourse)that pretend to be a profiteering but the main objective is to attract people with their promises and after that will run away with you money..

I guess people has already answered this but I'm just going to supplement it. ICO or Initial Coin Offering is a way to introduce a coin and at the same time finance it. This is a chance for investors to buy their coins at a very low price with extra coins as bonus. Recently, ICOs has a bad rep because most of them turn out to be scams, so I'd say be careful with the ICOs you'll purchase in the future.

ICO is the term used when the new coin is going to launch , many companies use this strategy to introduce thier coin  on what potential it have. And also to become more popular and to have a big value in the market.
But just be aware, it is also used by the scammers they can say if you contribute in thier ICO you will have a big chance to have more of thier coin but in the end that coin is a shit.

ICO (Initial Coin Offering) is a very affordable price for payments to the free market.

The purpose of ICO

ICO is usually offered by developers to COLLECT THE FUNDS to improve the performance they do in this case is digital coins. They need substantial funds to develop and can adjust because of the limited funding available to the development team.

Advantages of ICO

For developers they will get funding from people to speed up the projects they develop that can be accessible to many people. For investors will get a coin that can be used freely in the exchanger market.

The advantage for investors that ICO before coins that can be sold freely will be cheaper. And usually the coin at the launch price will jump high. This is what makes investors enjoy the presence of this ICO.

Disadvantages of ICO

Behind the profits there must be disadvantages that come. Because ICO nature of the investment then we will give money and money for things that can be done when the ICO is brought his / her web hit HACK or various events without any clear or more information in the know with SCAM.

Some of the things that cause SCAM when the ICO is unclear project, the purpose of funds made by developers and teams that are not clear or not plastered. Usually this will be explained in whitepaper and roadmap. Then only limited to making important coins and can be paired with BTC only.

We must know who the people behind this ICO project is also the background.

So the best way to do before joining in any ico campaign is to research about the icos and its platforms.

By issuing their own tokens and exchanging them for popular crypto-currencies (for example, bitcoin or Ethereum) or for fiat currencies (dollars or euros), the project attracts the funding needed to launch or develop.

An ICO (Initial Coin Offering) is the most effective & efficient way of attracting investments for startups today. To solve your dilemma
Digital currencies have had a spectacular year, reaching a combined market capitalization of over $115 Billion. Along with this, a new trend of fundraising has emerged – the initial coin offering. Like digital currencies in 2013-2014, initial coin offerings (ICOs) are becoming popular lately as more crypto start-ups are using it as an alternative to the traditional fundraising methods. According to Forbes, ICOs have raised over $380M funding as of May 2017, compared to $225M in 2016, $10M in 2015, and $25M in 2014 (historical figures are from the research firm Smith + Crown).
One of the advantages is that ICOs create liquidity and growth equity without giving up equity in most cases. This means that the venture founders do not give up or dilute existing ownership in their start-up by raising funding. However, as an investor, this can turn into a risk because investors have no voting rights, as opposed to traditional equity ownership in a company.

ICO stands for Initial Coin Offering this is one if the strategies of several companies to collect funds and investors for the project that they want to launch. ICO's are consist of project developers They are making tokens as an offering to all investors that wants to be part of a particular projects. A token of a Ico has no value at all until the token didn't listed on the exchange but in the ICo token has have its own value. They sell all token in both private sale and public sale to reach their soft cap and at same time hard cap. This is for my own knowledge s you can do you own research about  ICO.

By issuing their own "money" and exchanging them for one of the common crypto-currencies (such as Bitcoin or Ethereum) or even for real currencies (dollars, euros), the project can secure the financing necessary for launching or development. In addition, issuing currency for the project, you can accelerate its development (as the introduction of money in ancient times increased trade turnover) and automatically solve the problem of future monetization.

And this coin is supposed to be used in a certain new project. The best ICOs give the investors really great profit, better than in trading. Here is the video about ICOs: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WZwMt42CzH0

if you are a trader, then ICO is just a replacement term for an IPO, the sales system is generally valid and almost no difference, except the binding official regulations, due to the absence of regulations and still limited to the use of KYC

so many projects are untested in quality and stability a potential underwriter for investors, the same sales system in the world of commerce and seen to have different ecosystems as an alternative investment.

Maybe I wrong, but ICO is like IPO on stock exchange. The different thing between IPO and ICO is on IPO we have that company share and on ICO we dont have any share on that company just investing our money on the project.
Thats why its very recommended to research before joining on ICO

Basically, ICO or Initial Coin Offering is a means to find investors for their crypto currencies to be used amd be prolific in the market. During ICOs, coin's value is very low and you can even earn extra coins if you purchase some. Problem lies if the company didn't get enough investors. Some give back the money, others don't. Hence, when there are ICOs other view it as a scam.

ICO is the way that the team and developer do to gather funds from the people.
This is to fund their project and make the people allowed to join them and support them.
in return, they will give you tokens or coins worth on what you funded.

ICOs are a mix between a donation and an investment. Owing to a number of scams in the industry, the community has adopted self-governing best practices and principles with respect to ICOs. Platforms like Koinify (now closed) promised due-diligence of projects before listing them, and releasing the money to the project team conditional upon realizing some pre-defined goals. Community members also demanded that projects use multi-signature wallets to enhance safety.

ICO stands for '' Initial Coin Offering''

It is the idea to presale coins of a cryptocurrency or token of a blockchain project and it's the instrument to raise funds by creating and selling their own virtual currency for development of a new application. Investors generally buy the new coins by sending the programmers Bitcoin or Ether.Generally inspired by older virtual currency systems like Bitcoin. It has become a tool that could revolutionize not just currency but the whole financial system.

The most obvious reason to do a coin offering is that you can raise more money than you ever could from venture capitalists. The people betting on the price of these tokens are generally betting that the services promised by the programmers will be completed, creating demand for the coins in the future. But when they did not keep there promise thats the time you will lose all of your money invested.

The ICO stands for "Initial Coin Offering," an unregulated vehicle by raising funds for a new Cryptocurrency venture. In an ICO campaign, developers will sell their coin to investors via Bitcoin or Ethereum. And investors will use the money to buy it, that is what I know brief about ico

Ico enables every individual and every company to easily release freely tradable tokens to raise funds. It could be used to completely reconstruct the financial system of shares, securities and so on.It decentralized not just money, but stock creation and trade.

I think investing in existing coins is really risky, imagine investing in coins that have not come out and few people know.
ICO is basically a kickstarter or fundraiser for a new coin project. There are scams, but there are still many official ICOs out there.
