Title: Do Not Use Electron Cash!
Post by: w0t4n on August 01, 2017, 06:45:51 PM
Hi there. So i wanted to give it a try and used a small wallet to check if electron cash is safe to use. Well it is not. I imported a wallet using all the precautions needed to save my bitcoins, and imported a small amount of bcc into the wallet. A couple of minutes later the bcc were sent away like magic. Farewell...

So be carefull!!!

your experience well noted , i think it is a bad start for cloned project bitcoin-cash (BCC) where almost in one month we can see a total fail of it very soon  . so forget about getting hyped program might not be as in ETC success . Thanks

looks like you send a btc transaction before the split and then almost 8 hours later when it split the transaction wasn't on that chain?

same thing happened to me, it showed my btc transaction. just change the server to one that is bch. (click network, bottom right, deselect 'select server automatically' then go to server tab and right click on server (with correct height 478562 as of now, i used casharia) and click 'use as server.' then the btc transaction is gone.

Electron Cash has a "peer list poisoning" bug, see https://twitter.com/ElectrumWallet/status/892433256385261568
This is probably what you are experiencing.
To fix that, disable auto-connect, and select a server that you trust to be a BCC server.

it looks like my only option for now so i'd like to know.

Thanks for the info. I kinda expect something like this after BCC release after all, it is a new wallet and of course it is full of bugs so I guess it is better to use BCC days or weeks after today. It would be nice to sell now though, we might see it below 200$ in a week after all, many people wants to sell it fast so badly, it is not even valued by many people at all. They just want to get BCC to get free money.

Yes. Definitely a good strategy, although we might loss some value of BCH because everyone is dumping it hard but its better safe than never.

Thanks for the warning and its good that you used small amounts just for the hell of checking if it really works as intended. Maybe this early, it has a bug or something that's why it is not working by designed.

I'm trying to consider this eletron cash to get some BCC but thanks for your warning mate. You surely made it to warn all of us just in time.

so how many people have had a successful bcash transaction using electron cash so far?

I have seen only one so far.
Got my BCH now. Electroncash default server is a BTC (bitcoin) not a BCH (Bitcoin cash) server. Click on the network icon and de-select the "select server automatically" box and select a server on the BCH blockchain ( right click>Use as server) and my BCH have appeared!

I'm quite skeptical before to use electron as theymos stated here already https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2059111.0 that we have to be careful about those full btc hosted wallets for bcc.

Hi,

it is working did some tests 3 confirmations so far. See above for public address, donations welcome. :)

Only Problem Electron Cash can connect to Bitcoin nodes but this is an easy fix. Also only use private key where Bitcoins have been transfered away!

Confirmed Electron Cash works using this process.  ;D

I used the same Bip39 seed as my original wallet now empty of BTC but still full of BCH in Electron Cash.

same here, emptied old wallet used old seed to restore BCC. All intact.

Now where can I go to dump these bad boys? Most exchanges right now have no wallets for funding BTCash so the price can only go up until external sellers can get in there...

Why don't use it? I tried in past hour and received my Bitcoin Cash very fast, but still can't deposit to any exchange for trade it to Bitcoin or Ethereum, sadly when I choose keep my Bitcoin in wallet Electrum and miss opportunity sell Bitcoin Cash with high price :(

Multisig in Electron Cash doesn't work. This means that you cannot use Multisig wallet and potentially 2FA wallets on Electron Cash.

Right click on server with the lower number since bcc is behind in blockchain.

No new wallet needed. Also your coins are in the chain not the wallet.

If it appears that your coins are disappearing, or you have not received coins you were expecting, please check that you are synced with the BCH chain and not the BTC chain.

Have you guys installed this wallet on the same system as your Electrum wallet?
Or have you used 2 different computers as recommended?
Just curious because I installed a virtual machine with ubuntu and installed the Electron-Cash wallet.
This method worked as well.
But of course before importing any private keys in Electron-cash make sure you have transferred your BTC to a new wallet before!!!

I don't get why the programmers of electrum do not implement bcc into their wallet software

They are main focus with bitcoin and on their website they said that it's still better to be sure of. As the developer of electron doesn't want to disclose his real identity so they are giving everyone a warning.

Weird thing is, I had 3.95 BTC during the fork, but Electron Cash only shows me at 1.43 BCC. What's up with that?

You sure about that? or you send the 2.52 BTC during the fork and not before?

just seems that there's nowhere to go yet. when the difficulty adjustment is expected?

Not to see, but to be on the safe side of things:)
Also something like this - https://www.reddit.com/r/btc/comments/6qyn18/electroncash_notice_how_to_select_bitcoincash/

Not sure I did it differently a bit. Unchecked auto-connect and just opened my old wallet from dat. Changed nothing in networks as I remember.
Now waiting for exchanges to enable deposits... when the network will start moving.

Then  is always good first to read things before of  doing anything to avoid bad steps that culminate in losing everything,so it's worth wasting a little time before doing it,otherwise anybody  can finish wasting more time trying of fix the things, another very important thing is that everybody should always visit the official sites as in this case visit the official electrum website,if there is a situation of not being sure about what to do it is better to wait.

IMHO if you haven't touched that ~3.95 BTC in a month, you do not have to hurry to get BCC now,in the rush something can go wrong, better beware, better use for example some block explorer to see your balance only, one for BTC and another for BCC.

Hi,

A few questions, answers are very much appreciated.

1.
Does it matter which BCC server I select? (Network/Tools)

Is this one okay for example?: "bcc.arihanc.com"

Since the instructions of this article:
https://steemit.com/bitcoin/@electroncash/electron-cash-how-to-check-you-are-on-the-bitcoin-cash-chain
- state that I have to select one that starts with "651e". None of the 9 nodes appearing starts with this sequence tho. So I just manually selected the above mentioned one.. And after selecting it, it went to the proper display of funds (where before my funds appeared as uncorfirmed sent out funds)

It also didn't detect a chain split when I went to tools/network, which was stated as seomthing that should occure in the article. It just loaded all blocks. And then I could manually select a node, which seems to display the rigth BCC balance now.. So everything seems to be in order, but I'd like to be sure. So Am I in the clear and free to use my BCC?

2.
Also what are the risks of using Electron Cash on the same Device where you have Electrum installed. Do this risks only apply when you use both wallets simultaniously? Or in general? Since I am not using the old Electrum now (have sent my BTC balance to a different wallet). But the software is still installed on my PC.

3.
Is there any time indication of when the network will produce enough blocks to move around funds conveniently to other wallets and exchanges?

Thanks in advance!

Best Regards,

Tom

2 don't use the same key to encrypt wallet so it can not open other wallet

Unfortunately the Electrum seed is not compatible with BIP32/BIP44 which is essentially what Coinomi implements so no, you cannot import your Electrum seed into Coinomi at the moment, although this might be possible in the future.

Does it truly copy wallets from other electrum installations?

I am using portable electrum and store files on usb stick so I suppose I am safe from that right?

It seems it copies them only for convenience, but if you're using portable wallets then you don't need to worry about that. Just make sure you choose the server manually when you run it the first time, to make sure you get a BCH server and not a BTC one.

Hey guys! I thought i got hacked cause it happend the same to me, bcc where gone.

I now had unclicked the automatic botton, how do i recover my bcc? Do i have to create a new wallet? In electron cash i go to network, unclick automatic and then? Should i do something more? Select a particular server?

Thanks for the help.

Right click on server with the lower number since bcc is behind in blockchain.

No new wallet needed. Also your coins are in the chain not the wallet.

It happened to me too. My BCC was found in the BCC Blockchain but was not received in my Electron Wallet.

How can i claim it?

Just chiming in to say I've used Electron Cash several times now, and sent a transaction once. Worked every time. One time it did start up on the wrong block chain, but I just manually corrected it per:

So yeah, Electron Cash works just fine. Mostly.

This is a problem I have with Electrum as well, but back when I was mining, I have one address that had 600+ transactions. I managed to consolidate them down in Electrum and send them to my new Electrum wallet.

But when I try to send off my BCC using Electron Cash, the whole wallet hangs up when I import that address's private key... It's a nightmare. So I essentially have a whole BTC in that address that is stuck for the time being.

I've tried about 10 times to get it working with no results. I'm even thinking of downloading the entire blockchain with bitcoin unlimited to send it that way, but it's gonna' take a while. o_o

I assume you didn't do this consolidation until after the fork? If so, you may truly be stuck until a fix is released. If you consolidated before the fork, you should be able to use the seed from your new Electrum wallet in an instance of Electron Cash. That should work because the consolidation should've resulted in just a single UTXO.

Just out of curiousity, what happens when it hangs? Is it still using CPU time per a task manager? If it is still grinding away on the CPU, maybe let it sit for a long while and see what happens.

Electrum used to have a "coin control" functionality, but it looks like it has lost that capability at some point. That would've allowed you to send each individual UTXO from among the 600+, but I don't know whether that would've of worked in any case.

Edit: You have the right idea in that your final option would be to download and sync a full node wallet, and then import that private key. I assume you meant you'd download the Bitcoin Cash version of Bitcoin Unlimited.

Hmm, I just figured out that on current Electrum wallets, coin control is hidden by hiding the "Addresses" tab. To view it, hit CTRL+A. The problem is, this functionality seems to be missing from Electron Cash.

EDIT: Perhaps CTRL+A doesn't work on my Electron Cash because it has only a single non-zero UTXO right now. If I learn differently, I'll update.

so how many people have had a successful bcash transaction using electron cash so far?

I used electron cash, and it gave me no trouble. I just imported my private key and as soon as it connected, I send the coins to be sold.

P.S. I send my BTC to another address before adding the private key with 6+ confirmations in the BTC blockchain, just to be sure.

The reason for that is a simple error by the user not choosing the right node, nothing is gone. Mentioned here a million times.
Sadly they never report back when they see the mistake.

Argh, it shows 0 bcc

What I did:
1. Had electrum wallet where i had bitcoin from 31st to 2nd

(exact times: put bitcoins in adress at 31.7    17:00h, put them out again at 2.8 11:00h)
(sent the bitcoin to other adress)

2. went to 'used addresses' in electrum and copy pasted private keys
There were 2

3. Uninstalled electrum cash and deleted the electrum folder in the roaming shared folder on c:

4.  Installed electrum cash

5. chose 'manual server', took casharia

6. made new standard wallet

7. chose 'use public or private keys'

8. put in the 2 private keys in, each one in his own line (pressed 'enter' after first)

9. Expect bcc to show up but are not there

(bitcoin wallets were 2 factor authentification, that is irrelevant is it)

[also electrum cash does not appear in my list of programs that i can uninstall]

(exact times: put bitcoins in adress at 31.7    17:00h, put them out again at 2.8 11:00h) -> are the times right?
(sent the bitcoin to other adress)

2. In this wallet went to 'used addresses' in electrum and copy-pasted private keys - there were 2 of them,
always right click show private keys and had to give password every time

3. Uninstalled electrum cash (and moved the electrum folder in the roaming shared folder on c:)

4.  Installed electrum cash

5. chose 'manual server', took electroncash.cascharia.com

6. made new standard wallet

7. chose 'use public or private keys'

8. put in the 2 private keys in, each one in his own line (pressed 'enter' after first)

Hello everyone. I have a problem claiming my Bitcoin cash from the private keys.

I had a BTC balance on Electrum wallet before and after the swap. Moved my BTC after the swap to a diff address for security reasons. Now cannot use my private keys, every wallet (Electron cash, coinomi, Bitcoin ABC ) says that there is no funds on those keys, but the block explorer confirms that my Bitcoin Cash is there: https://blockchair.com/bitcoin-cash/address/36XmauGXBMEMjMNbRXxmCWy1X8g9SLEwFC. What am I doing wrong? Anyone has an idea?

There was a twitter made by electrum about this software:
https://twitter.com/ElectrumWallet/status/891935330235973633
WARNING: "Electron Cash" will copy all your Electrum wallets to its own directory, and their binaries are anonymous

So I am not surprised to read about a clear scam about Electron Cash. Also the name similar to Electrum wallets sounds like a scam :(

I think half and half but it doesn't mean not to use really electronic cash. For as long as it is useful regardless of the source of the cash. We as people are not hyprocrites to disregard money because that's how we survive daily. What's more necessary to us is how we can manage ourselves in giving importance on what we do everyday with that cash inlvove in us. If the company uses electronic cash, so be it. You can't choose your own if you need a job so just work and be contended so that you can have or get your income by means of electronic cash.

you are using the old private keys - not those for the address you moved your bitcoin to, right?
what server are you connected to exactly?
you need to connect to a bitcoin cash server not a bitcoin electrum server.
i tried casharia as described below:

same thing happened to me, it showed my btc transaction. just change the server to one that is bch. (click network, bottom right, deselect 'select server automatically' then go to server tab and right click on server (with correct height 478562 as of now, i used casharia) and click 'use as server.' then the btc transaction is gone.
Confirmed Electron Cash works using this process.  ;D

I used the same Bip39 seed as my original wallet (now empty) but still full in Electron Cash.

thanks guys, this helped!

I've probably been an idiot but maybe someone can help. I've tried claiming my BCH but i didn't move my BTC to a new wallet before creating the BCH wallet. Now Electron Cash is showing the correct amount of BCH but it's been unverified for a week now.

It's a really small amount so it won't be a problem if it's gone but i was just wondering if there's any way to get it back.

For some, it worked well. But others had bad experience with this software. I had installed Electron Cash on my desktop a few days back. But I got suspicious and I uninstalled it immediately. I would rather wait until Blockchain.info provides BCH claiming services.

Actually the first time I had heard of that project. It's weird that during the hard Fork there seems to be more people scamming off of etherium and other different types of coins besides Bitcoin then Bitcoin itself. I had a big expectations they were going to use Bitcoin cash as a way to steal money from people, not the coin itself but that they would be a lot of software out there they would claim to safely move your Bitcoin to bitcoin cash or whatever and then steal your coins.

Electron cash 2.9.2: when making a wallet "read only" (with private public keys) => correctly shows the balance bitcoin cash.

When making normal wallet, with private keys (with transaction rights) it shows a zero balance.  ???

Now cannot use my private keys, every wallet (Electron cash, coinomi, Bitcoin ABC ) says that there is no funds on those keys, but the block explorer confirms that my Bitcoin Cash is there: https://blockchair.com/bitcoin-cash/address/36XmauGXBMEMjMNbRXxmCWy1X8g9SLEwFC. What am I doing wrong? Anyone has an idea?
Thanks.

Same problem.

Electron cash 2.9.2: when making a wallet "read only" (with private public keys) => correctly shows the balance bitcoin cash.

When making normal wallet, with private keys (with transaction rights) it shows a zero balance.  ???

Hi George5 and Martisor-Sobru.
If you have used your priv key through electron cash wallet, you probably get scammed.
you can't move your coins but they have a backup of the priv key... so their wallet is really unsecure to use, both for spend/save bcc.
It's a good sign you can see your coins, maybe they can't spend or they forget it.

Hi bitbollo,

I don't think that we got scammed. That software is open-source and many people claim that it worked for them.
Besides, I just checked bcc block explorer and all the coins are still there, on my original addresses.
I start wondering if Electrum wallet gave me the wrong private keys (is that even possible???) when I tried to export them?
Otherwise it doesn't make sense why all BCC wallets say that there is no funds on those keys.

In my case are private keys given by blockchain.info to an old address of theirs.

I'm thinking about a problem with the new chain bitcoin-cash, because in a similar case (on the romanian forum) a colleague received from the bitcoin-abc wallet, at "transactions": "Open for 200 more blocks" ...and in blockchain he has "total unspent" (balance) correct.

Are you using electrum and electron in the same system?

Everyone said in uppercase not to use electron and electrum together

In my case: I change HDD effectively.

I do not have two wallets on the same HDD.

(and in Coinomi, android wallet: zero balance)

There was a twitter made by electrum about this software:
https://twitter.com/ElectrumWallet/status/891935330235973633
WARNING: "Electron Cash" will copy all your Electrum wallets to its own directory, and their binaries are anonymous

So I am not surprised to read about a clear scam about Electron Cash. Also the name similar to Electrum wallets sounds like a scam :(

This is just a warning and it is a good one!

BUT Electron Cash will not copy anything it will ask you and only after you supply seed oder keys it will effectively have a copy.
Which is exactly what you want and you don't risk bitcoins if you moved them first.

Most error i've seen is people use the wrong private key or have wrong nodes selected and they get scared, but not one lost the coins because of this software itself.

Also you should know that your private keys are exposed to the new electron cash wallet in case if you're planning store coins on the same coins, you must think twice. At the given situations,it's not yet completely marked as safe storage in the system. You should move your BCC coins from that wallet to an exchange or the core wallet.

Where did you managed to find the source code ? Last I heard they aren't open-sourced yet ? Even if you went through the source, you can't really know what's going on until you understand the encrypting functions. If possible, please give a link to source code.

Blockdozer says
0 bcc at my original bitcoin wallet
0 bcc at my bcc wallet where i 'imported' the private keys

Nah, i was wrong. I put in the wrong address.
The BCC is there.

But:
My electrum wallet is with 2 factor authentification.
So: Electrum Cash software does simply not support it.

So: Either wait for them to update software to fix that,
or take another BCC-Wallet? (Would this work)

Anyone got a tip for me what to do? Can i just install 'any' BCC wallet and do 'restore from private key' and have my BCC? (even though i have 2FA)

Your 2fa applies only to your wallet not your coins or even less other coin forks or their wallets.

This thread might be started because they are bticoincash haters. Everyone in this forum should expect a lot of misinformation coming from the opposing side. There are people out there who do not want bitcoincash's value to grow because it can become a real potential threat to bitcoin.

Make sure you're connected on the bitcoin cash blockchain network not on bitcoin regardless what client you use
The wallets have issues they keep get 'poisoned' by bitcoin nodes moving them to the wrong blockchain, it's real pain in the ass.

You are actually getting those priv keys from the wallet addresses, right? Like:

1) Open the menu "View" and click on "Show Addresses"
2) Then open the new tab "Addresses"
3) Right click on the addresses that had Bitcoin before the fork, then click "Private key".
4) Click on the qrcode icon to show it.
5) Sweep them with Coinomi

Do the addresses that you know to have BCH show up at all in the addresses list in electrum?

I'm having an issue with Mycelium missing addresses that have BCH, just 0.02 but still annoying that the 3 and 4 BHC show up while an address used minutes later disappeared completely.

3. I open Coinomi BCC Wallet
4. I scan the Electrum private-key-Picture from the adress where my Blockdozer shows my BCC are
5. Coinomi says 'there are no funds on this private key'

Anyone knows what's wrong here?

Thanks!!

"Ok everyone, I believe that I have used Electron Cash successfully. Here's how:

I followed the procedure (at https://electrum.org/bcc.txt) faithfully, xfering my bitcoins to a new electrum wallet on another computer.

I downloaded my version of Electron Cash by following the link on bitcoincash.org and clicking on the Electron Cash link in the list of Wallets. I then clicked on the "Run from Source Code" link which downloaded Electron-Cash-2.9.2.tar.gz to my computer.

-You may find it interesting that the tar.gz file contained what looked like the kind of data one would find when downloading source code but also contained within the archive was a compiled version of Electron Cash. I found no instructions indicating how to compile the source code but I didn't look very hard. I realize that I have NO ability to analyze the code anyway so regardless of how I proceeded a certain leap of faith was required. With that in mind I simply ran: ./electron-cash in my konsole........" etc.

I am pretty sure that it really depends on where you get the wallet from. There's a bunch of websites out there that state that they have an Electron Cash wallet though they have some kind of virus placed onto it so the money could get transferred without the person being around to approve it.

I've used the official wallet and did what it stated to do within their website and I was able to get Bitcoin Cash without losing any Bitcoin (I did have to spend about 0.0001 BTC as a transaction fee).
After I've received Bitcoin Cash I just sent it to an exchange.

I think you are trying to sweep the funds into another wallet. You need the private keys of the address that had funds on the fork time, not now, and only the address, not the seed for the whole wallet

Any of you have been able to reclaim BCC from blockchain.info wallet ?!?
How did you do it ?!

I have moved my coins to another address within my blockchain.info wallet, but is it safe to reclaim BCC with electron cash wallet with my seed phrase now ?!

So I loaded the wallet with my seed, but now I see and unconfirmed transaction (when I moved all my BTC to the other address) and it's blocking me from withdrawing my coins because it's if I had 0 BCC..

Anyone can help ?!

Edit:
Found the problem, Wasn't on the good network.
You have the change the server in tools - network - Server tab
- uncheck Select server automatically box
- Go to server tab
- Replace the one written by an electron... one
- Go back to overview and recheck the select server automatically box

Then it should work

Can you get a word-seed from electrum to import elsewhere?

ps
Electroncash worked perfect for me, the only wallet that found my "missing" address that the stand-alone priv. key retriever never produced, even if I loaded 1000 addresses. So move your btc elsewhere and:
In electroncash: file-new/restore, pick a name-next, standard wallet-next, "I already have a seed"-next, enter seed words- under option check bip39, next etc.

ps. only get it from http://www.electroncash.org/ (http://www.electroncash.org/)

EDIT: Another method, sorry if you tried it already:
In Electrum, after moving your BTC to a save other wallet, go to wallet-private keys-export, save the key,
Now in electroncash: file-new/restore, to the right of the wallet name suggestion click "choose" and pick the key you saved from the Electrum wallet before.

Hi,

it is working did some tests 3 confirmations so far. See above for public address, donations welcome. :)

Only Problem Electron Cash can connect to Bitcoin nodes but this is an easy fix. Also only use private key where Bitcoins have been transfered away!
Thanks for the heads up, I think this is similar to the method that the forum administrator published back then, you need to first send your bitcoins to another address and that way you are left with only BCH in that address then you import that address private key to a BCH wallet and you are ready to go, Am I right?

Quote
1. Open ElectrumCash, make new wallet
2. Restore 'use public or private keys' and put in private key
(the one where i first check blockchair of public key, then go to electrum wallet
and get private key of this public key where the bcc show up)
3. It shows 0 BCC

The point in ElectrumCash is green and 479 723 blocks. Connected to 10 nodes, Server electroncash.casharia.com.

Didn't find any solution, only same question like mine. I wrote on Twitter to Electroncash, and received reply in which they said to provide TX ID, so i did it. It was 9 h. earlier.

But till now transaction still unconfirmed.

Does anybody know how to solve the problem? Is it safe to change server now or it may to loss my BCC.

Thanks in advance!

Hi there. So i wanted to give it a try and used a small wallet to check if electron cash is safe to use. Well it is not. I imported a wallet using all the precautions needed to save my bitcoins, and imported a small amount of bcc into the wallet. A couple of minutes later the bcc were sent away like magic. Farewell...

In electrum I do not see a tab marked "wallet" maybe you have a newer version?
I found a way to get private keys from the addresses but I wanted to know if there is one central key to export that would make things easier because if I have to extract the private keys from each address it is about 70 addresses

Yes, he also seemed to me very difficult. Therefore, I do not use this service. There are better projects with a very user-friendly interface

I think this is fixed in 2.9.4 (https://electroncash.org)

2.9.4 also has the new difficulty adjustment algorithm (DAA), which it needs to verify the headers (electron-cash is a SPV wallet, so it needs to do that). Electron-Cash users will need to update to this version for the Nov. 13th hardfork.

And has anyone looked at the source code of electron cash to verify it is safe?

Disclosure: I'm part of the team maintaining electron cash, so you might not want to trust me ;-)

I follow all source-code changes and I never saw anything malicious being commited. The official repo is https://github.com/fyookball/electrum

Jonald Fyookball controls the repo and the electroncash.org website. He's an upstanding member of the Bitcoin Cash community. He builds the binaries for all platforms and releases them on https://electroncash.org. Please always verify the checksums published there.

What Nov. 13 hardfork? Segwit2x was canceled, but even if not, that was a split off bitcoin, and bitcoin gold is also a split from bitcoin. So bitcoin cash should not be affected?

We need to wait a bit for more tested methods.
We do face a fail in a month for cloned project bitcoin cash.
Peerlist is there for electron Cash like a bug needs to be fixed by disabling auto connect and select the server that you trust to be a BCC server. I believe this will give a perfect fix.

I really wish all this FUD about ElectronCash would just stop... it's opensource... it's clean... it's safe... This thread should be locked. :-\

To the best of my knowledge. Not one single person who downloaded ElectronCash from the OFFICIAL site: https://electroncash.org/#download has lost either BTC or BCH because of something that ElectronCash has done.

It is NOT the fault of ElectronCash dev's that people are stupid and download scam versions of the software from scam sites... or they're careless with their private keys/seeds... or that they have pre-existing malware/keyloggers on their computers.

Take the proper precautions ie. move your BTC to a completely new wallet, not just new addresses... a completely new wallet with new seed... BEFORE you try and get your BCH and you will have no problems.

I've been running ElectronCash since it came out in August... ALL my BTC and BCH are still safe.

Tha bad thing about Electron Cash is that it does NOT allow you to redeem the BCC from the BTCs that you were helding in a Electrum multisig address.

If that Electrum MultiSig was actually an Electrum 2FA wallet... you CAN get it out... relatively easily too... you just restore the wallet from seed and use "disable" when asked if you want to keep or disable 2FA functionality. It will then let you sign and broadcast transactions without requiring TrustedCoin.

If it was a normal MultiSig, you can still get it out... in fact, I thought they'd actually fixed it so that MultiSigs worked correctly without any issues? ???

Oh, really? I tried again and again in August but didn't try again recently. It was a multisig, 1of3, not 2FA. So you say they have fixed it? Do you also know when?

Like... a couple of days after the fork as far as I'm aware: https://github.com/fyookball/electrum/issues/67

Basically, they had some issues with signing when using MultiSig, but I'm fairly certain it got sorted out... It was just the issues with 2FA that kept going and going... mostly because people were unable to read ::) If multisig signing wasn't working, then the restored 2FA "workaround" probably wouldn't be working (as that has to use two sigs to sign a transaction)

So, theoretically, you can either just load up a copy of your MultiSig wallet in ElectronCash, or you can attempt to recreate the MultiSig by creating a 1of3 and using the xprv and two xpubs from your Electrum MultiSig wallet.

No problems with Electron Cash.

Swept BTC wallet, got BCH in a sec, they were on Electron Cash for some time until i transferred them successfully to exchange.
No problems, easy, no hassle.

People who have problems are either wrong or they downloaded some bad versions.
I, of course, downloaded from official site and compared hash.

There is no issue with this... They use different install and different data directories... so anything you do with one will not affect the other. You can even run Electrum and ElectronCash at the same time.

Tried sending some Bitcoin cash from ElectronCase 3.0 today after importing private keys from older Bitcoin wallet.

But when I try to send I get an error message with the words 'missing inputs' in it?

Is this partly to do with the fact that it still says "Synchronizing..." in the corner?  Seems to be taking forever to fully synchronize, hmm...

Title: Re: Do Not Use Electron Cash!
Post by: HCP on December 10, 2017, 10:33:15 PM
Most likely, yes...

It would seem that your wallet still thinks it has certain inputs which have already been spent on the blockchain, so the server you're trying to send through is rejecting because it can see they're spent.

You might want to check what server you're connected to. Earlier versions of ElectronCash had a bad habit of connecting to BTC servers :P If it isn't synchronised within 10 minutes, something is seriously wrong.

Restarting it did the trick in the end, was stuck on synchronizing forever but after that was fine :)

I was reluctant after reading some of the earlier comments in this thread but after sending my previous BTC to a Ledger first and then trying the bitcoin.com wallet (insists that my password is wrong!) and Exodus (just doesn't work), I bit the bullet with Electron Cash which at least in my case seems to have worked just fine.

Anyone? It now seems important to be able to verify the signatures, given that there are fakes around. There is a false bitcoin gold project that steals people's private keys, that purports to be the same writer as electron cash. Will not post the link because it is a scam.

The short and relatively simple version would be something like:

1. Download Jonald Fyookball's public key from here: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/fyookball/keys-n-hashes/master/pubkeys/jonaldkey2.txt

2. Import the key to gpg using:
Code:
sudo gpg --import /path/to/savedfile/jonaldkey2.txt

3. Download the appropriate "sig" file from here: https://github.com/fyookball/keys-n-hashes/tree/master/sigs-and-sums/3.0/win-linux

4. Verify the file
Code:
sudo gpg --verify ElectronCash-3.0.tar.gz.sig ElectronCash-3.0.tar.gz

NOTES:
- ensure the .sig file and the tar.gz are both in the folder where you execute commandline syntax above
- gpg: Good signature from "Jonald Fyookball <jonf@electroncash.org>"  should be displayed after step 4.
- You can safely ignore:
Code:
gpg: WARNING: This key is not certified with a trusted signature!
gpg:          There is no indication that the signature belongs to the owner.

It just means you have not "vouched" for Jonald's key... as long as you see 'Good signature from "Jonald Fyookball <jonf@electroncash.org>"' It is OK.

(Please make sure to transfer your bitcoins to a different wallet first for safety) Once your bitcoin wallet is empty, use it for bitcoin cash.

Hello,

I downloaded electron-cash-2.9.3 wallet In October.
When I opened this wallet, it  found my Electrum BTC wallet and asked for password.
After typing password I saw Bitcoin Cash in equivalent of BTC balance I had in August.
So this wallet automatically imported my private key from Electrum...

In October I have no BTC on that Electrum wallet (I transfered it all to exchanges).
But now I want to withdraw bitcoins to this wallet...

Will it be safe to use Electrum BTC and Electron Cash wallets with the same address on the same PC?
Or it will be better to create new BTC wallet in Electrum?

As far as I'm aware there have not been any reported cases of people losing BTC or BCH if they use the "official" wallets from the "official" websites.

Having said that, it would probably be prudent to use different wallets, with different addresses. If nothing else, it will help with your privacy across the two chains. Unless you have a very good reason to continue using that BTC wallet (for instance, expecting payouts to old addresses) then you should probably create a new wallet.

TL;DR:
Is it necessary to create a new wallet? Probably not.
Would it be wise to create a new wallet? Probably so.

Actually the opposite is correct - Windows VM inside Linux host.

You put criminals in jail, not innocent people in jail (and keep criminals outside), right?

It's easy for bad stuff to go inside the VM from the host, but the opposite is hard.

So it does not work for the new version (3.1.2). Was it not signed by Jonald Fyookball?

Code:
sudo gpg --import jonaldkey2.txt
gpg: key EFF1DDE1: public key "Jonald Fyookball <jonf@electroncash.org>" imported
gpg: Total number processed: 1

and: https://electroncash.org/downloads/3.1.2/win-linux/ElectronCash-3.1.2.tar.gz

Maybe check the SHA256 of your downloaded .tar.gz, maybe your download got corrupted? ???

Bug or not every developer, creator or founder of any digital wallet for keeping our digital money must and should have a back up plan if a certain or some complications arises, user may loss whatever they keep on that account that they worked for a long period of time, then when it gone they will just say 'sorry for your loss', in the other hand some digital wallet are proven to be scam that they copied the property of the said wallet application, that when you enter and create account with them you'll money pop like a bubble. So careful review about the wallet before using one. Or use the wallet that has been used by many, you might request the link to have the same link they use and using.

Seems to work OK for me...

I downloaded: https://github.com/fyookball/keys-n-hashes/blob/master/sigs-and-sums/3.1.2/win-linux/ElectronCash-3.1.2.tar.gz.sig
and: https://electroncash.org/downloads/3.1.2/win-linux/ElectronCash-3.1.2.tar.gz

I also double checked the SHA256... which checks out (https://github.com/fyookball/keys-n-hashes/blob/master/sigs-and-sums/3.1.2/win-linux/SHA256.ElectronCash-3.1.2.tar.gz.txt)

Maybe check the SHA256 of your downloaded .tar.gz, maybe your download got corrupted? ???

Ah, you are right, the .sig file did not download properly. It does work.
