Title: Diff contest Aug 9 to Aug?.Prize a black sealed Trezor wallet. Picks are closed. Post by: philipma1957 on August 09, 2017, 03:18:15 PM I am changing prize to 1 black factory sealed trezor.
This trezor is provided by trezor they made an error on my order sent me too many black ones and not enough white ones. This generously fixed the order by send me whites ones on their dime. I told them I would do the next promo and give away a black one. While mentioning their generosity in fixing an error. I also must mention when btc added bcc trezor did a good job of allowing access to the bcc. New contest picks to start at block 1116. If it works well enough, feel free to quote it Phil. rules to follow old thread link https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2057465.0 Title: Re: Diff contest Aug 9 to Aug?.Prize a black sealed Trezor wallet. HMMMM this Trezor https://shop.trezor.io/static/img/trezor_black.jpg not the other one ;D and Trezor was good enough to send me a white one free of charge due to an error on their part. If Difficulty were to go up (just) 8.32% this go-round, we'd be at difficulty of 1E12. I recall late summer 2013, when no one believed that difficulty would hit a Billion by the end of the year. (It did, block 276192, on 12/21/13) I've been sharpening my dart this week. This is a more difficult prediction than I thought. Thanks for funding the contest! The vulnerability requires physical access to the device and cracking open the case, so it's not that earth shattering. But it's still worth doing. I updated mine as soon as it was available. Seems like hashrate just isn't stopping on its rise to the top, just recently saw a post on r/bitcoin about hashrate reaching the highest it's ever been at. Not sure if that is true but it seems somewhat true with the recent trends. Title: Re: Diff contest Aug 9 to Aug?.Prize a black sealed Trezor wallet. Picks are open! https://bitcoinmagazine.com/articles/why-bcash-mining-shouldnt-affect-bitcoin-much-bitcoin-mining-could-ruin-bcash/ The reason why miners can do that is the BCH rule that allows for mid-period downward difficulty adjustments. Without that, it would be a lot more costly to keep the BCH chain alive when it's less profitable. Effectively BCH was designed to enable coordinated miners to manipulate the block rate to their advantage. This will continue forever as long as long as BCH has enough value to make it worth while. It could well be that this is the only tangible reason why BCH exists. It's not because big blockers wanted it. It's because the large mining pools can profit by it. Im confused as to what Bitcoin cash...will do...arent we heading towards a hard fork ? so 3 coins. Where does that leave BCH ? Well, as of now BCH is just a trader and speculator's toy to mess around with and a miner's dream for more profit. 2X will be another fork like you said and it could have a more drastic effect on BTC's price (and possibly mining if it uses another BCH-like difficulty model). Only time can tell at this point, but from what I can tell 2X won't be too pleasant.Title: Re: Diff contest Aug 9 to Aug?.Prize a black sealed Trezor wallet. Picks are closed. Post by: edonkey on August 25, 2017, 03:59:06 AM Nothing new there, just a bit bigger for now ('till BCH attention span dies down to the level of all of the other SHA256 based coins). Sure there have always been other SHA256 coins, but they've only amounted to a tiny bit of noise on the Bitcoin signal. You have to admit that the scale here with BCH is unprecedented. Even Garza's Paycoin (everyone here remember that scam?) didn't have this effect on the difficulty of the main chain. That said, I agree that BCH will wain. It has no value except for speculation and cyclical mining profits (for the moment). IMHO, BCH is just Bitmain enabling the big block true believer bag holders. Guess who wins in that scenario? If the 2x hard fork actually happens, then we will see the original Bitcoin verses two speculative alts. If BCH hasn't already tanked, it will at least have to share the remaining table scraps with the new 2x alt. Sure, 2x wasn't designed to enable miner manipulation, so Bitmain won't support it. But 2x is sure to to have a speculative following of some sort. Regardless, competition among the alts that have no real economic reason for being will help dilute them both. I suspect that come the new year, none of this will matter. Miners will for the most part return to the original Bitcoin, and the forks will flounder. A year from now the forks probably won't even be in the top ten. Title: Re: Diff contest Aug 9 to Aug?.Prize a black sealed Trezor wallet. Picks are closed. Try this: http://bitcointicker.co/networkstats/ good it works and we are looking at a 20% drop in the diff! but switching is easy look at the hash on viabtc 6600p is close to the baseline or a 0% change at 4300 for btc at 3800 for bcc/bch a drop from 6600p to 4300p = more then 33% drop. if btc goes lower hash then bcc/bch we will no long have alt coins since every coin will be an alt coin. we would just have cryptocoins just definitions as I see it. https://i.imgur.com/vzOpnOC.png Title: Re: Diff contest Aug 9 to Aug?.Prize a black sealed Trezor wallet. Seems like quite a few folks have been "bouncing" between BTC and BCC the last few days, since BCC price went up enough to be competative on profitability, per https://blockchain.info/charts/hash-rate?timespan=30days Unfortunately, that chart doesn't track diff, but https://blockchain.info/charts/difficulty does. 2016 1757 259 blocks New York Yankee time is 12:15 Pm Title: Re: Diff contest Aug 9 to Aug?.Prize a black sealed Trezor wallet. Picks are closed. Post by: philipma1957 on August 26, 2017, 04:17:50 PM Yeah and on Aug 24th 1:58 am we were at block 2016
So 24 + 24 + 10 = 58 hours so 257/58 = 4.43 blocks an hour vs 6 or 73.8% that means -26.2% I need to check the time span better block 482093 was at 2017 8 - 26 - 16:04 block 481834 was at 2017 8 - 24 - 04:49 that is 24 + 24 + 11 = 59.25 not 58 as I guessed at above so 257/59.25 = 4.337 blocks an hour vs 6 which is 72.29% or a 27.71% drop freaking amazing! now we are only 257 blocks in. and the hash is on BCC/BCH it can flip back here at any time. So the 27.71% drop can move up fast. I could be off just a bit as I think the new diff started at block 481834 if someone knows this to be wrong or true please let me know. Post by: edonkey on August 28, 2017, 03:38:32 PM There's some interesting analysis floating around regarding the effect EDA (Emergency Difficulty Adjustment) will have on BCH ongoing. The ability of miners to periodically accelerate block creation will result in premature reward halving.
If things stay as is, there will be two BCH halvings by early 2019 (compared to one for Bitcoin in 2020). That means the BCH block reward could fall to 3.125 in a little over a year. While the miners force cycle the difficulty, BCH goes through periods of extremely slow blocks followed by periods of ridiculously fast blocks. How can there be any economic support for a blockchain that goes through regular drought cycles where transactions take hours to confirm? So if BCH has a dramatic reduction of block rewards and there's no significant increase in fees due to lack of economic support, the coin is basically dead. Miners will cycle it into oblivion until there's no value left to extract. In the meantime those large blocks go largely empty, with the only transactions used to transfer BCH from the miners to the bag holders who have been conned into believing in this failed experiment. I can't imagine that the BCH devs can leave things as-is. They're probably going to have to remove EDA. Assuming Bitmain allows it ;) Title: Re: Diff contest Aug 9 to Aug?.Prize a black sealed Trezor wallet. Picks are closed. This would be a fun diff game if I had a good tracker service. I will suspend the game this jump. these are active trackers: https://data.bitcoinity.org/bitcoin/difficulty/5y?t=l http://bitcointicker.co/networkstats/ https://pool.viabtc.com/ these seem dead: https://bitcoinwisdom.com/bitcoin/difficulty https://bitcoincharts.com/ and manual can be done via https://blockchain.info/ block 482365 8-28-2017 15:20:29 = current block 481824 8-24-2017 01:57:37 = start so 541 blocks in 4 days and 14 hours is about 110 hours x 6 = 660 541 vs 660 = 81.9 % or a 18.1 % drop which can move with ease by the hash shifting from btc to bcc Title: Re: Diff contest Aug 9 to Aug?.Prize a black sealed Trezor wallet. If ever we were in doubt that miners (pools) could have this much control, this evidence should be quite definitive. This must force BCH devs into intervening sooner or later. Also, I wonder how long more price can hold if this pattern continues, though? There's got to be some nett effect of simple profit-taking on the market, at least for the medium term.
And all this coming up to November, too. Just goes to show how much/little I really can predict about the network! If bitcoin price goes down to 2500 lets say, and diff keeps truckin` then its safe to say a lot of S7's will be going into retirement..... Well if coins stay at 3800 and diff jumps 20% a huge swing will go to BCC/BCH at the moment 8233ph = BTC coin price is 3900 974ph = BCC/BCH coin price is 514 BTC diff is pushing a big diff jump BCH diff is flat 8233/974 = 8.45 8.45 x 514 = 4344 so when that big diff jumps for btc if btc is at 3900 and bcc/bch is at 514 a lot of hash will switch to BCC basically for every 3900 you earn with btc you would earn 4344 for bcc/bch this is really dangerous may make market nuts. That seems like a poor situation long term, though maybe the "Emergency" only needs to last a while longer. I can understand why BCC seemed desirable to Bitmain since it would supposedly increase the set of folks that would want an S9 (i.e. BCC-only miners). I can understand why BCC seemed desirable to Bitmain since it would supposedly increase the set of folks that would want an S9 (i.e. BCC-only miners). the problem will show when BTC jumps 20% if it does not rise to about 4350 BCC is the clear coin to mine viabtc.com has btc at 9580ph 3900 usd bcc/bch at 900ph 500 usd https://bitinfocharts.com/comparison/bitcoin-difficulty.html#3m diff is 922 diff is 119 the diff will jump to 1106 for btc 1106/119 9.30 to 1 so 500 x 9.30 = 4650 vs 922/119 7.75 to 1 so 500 x 7.75 = 3875 so right now bcc is 500 btc is 3900 current diff is 7.75 to 1 btc is slightly better to mine once diff jumps btc to bcc/bch needs to be 4605 to 500 to be better. to mine so we are going to see swings. viabtc offers auto switching: so a lot of hash may switch to bcc next jump maybe bcc prices crashes or maybe btc price rises Title: Re: Diff contest Aug 9 to Aug?.Prize a black sealed Trezor wallet. Post by: QuintLeo on September 14, 2017, 09:27:45 AM Just had a look at the 9 month chart on bitcoinwisdom...wow that is pretty crazy. If bitcoin price goes down to 2500 lets say, and diff keeps truckin` then its safe to say a lot of S7's will be going into retirement..... I suspect some already have - they're NOT profitable unless you have SUPER cheap electric. Title: Re: Diff contest Aug 9 to Aug?.Prize a black sealed Trezor wallet. Picks are closed. Post by: leowonderful on September 14, 2017, 11:58:13 AM My S7 is still truckin along barely profitable right now... thinking of just throwing it in the miner museum with a few other old relics. I'm surprised these things have made it so far, two years of mining... shame Bitmain doesn't make anything nearly as reliable these days.
BTCC suspends trading and price plunged to $2500 temporarily on the exchange... with the difficulty rises combined with that I don't see this thing making it that far anymore sadly. They seem to have toned the timeframe back to "have working silicon in 2018" which sounds like they are targeting TAPE-OUT by the end of 2018 and might be a viable target (that would put actual PRODUCTION into 1Q or 2Q of 2019). They seem to have also had some bad timing on when to get involved, with the recent news out of China - unless China DOES in fact ban Bitcoin and it puts Bitmain/BW.COM/EBit and the other smaller Chinese miner makers out of business (Innosilicon will probably survive, they'll go back to being a custom design house like they were before they started doing Cryptocoin ASIC). coinbase dropped under 3000 2975 back to 3352 on hashnest the s-7 was making good money when coins were 4500 plus it is still at the 49% level what does this mean? it means bitmain is still whaling as now one checks to see if they run s-9's and charge for s-7's https://i.imgur.com/vfAEDc9.png Title: Re: Diff contest Aug 9 to Aug?.Prize a black sealed Trezor wallet. Many thanks for your insights. There is another one called DMM. https://www.coindesk.com/e-commerce-giant-dmm-to-launch-bitcoin-mining-venture/ Apart from the bad timing aspects you mentioned, I still can't get my woolly head round the 7nm part - thought the limits were being reached around 10-12nm. Further, do you actually believe these announcements? Haven't we all heard more such announcements than were to be believed? As long as they stay up I will start it back up. Great news. Sorry for off topic. Title: Re: Diff contest Aug 9 to Aug?.Prize a black sealed Trezor wallet. Picks are closed. Post by: QuintLeo on September 15, 2017, 07:19:00 PM Intel stated "10 nm end of road for Silicon".
IBM has mentioned used HYBRID Germanium/Silicon wafers in their 7NM experimental development (this would end up on Global Foundries since GF ended up with the IBM fabs some years back when IBM decided to spin off that part of their business). This should probably move over to the "Phil's 6'th thread" for any further discussion. Title: Re: Diff contest Aug 9 to Aug?.Prize a black sealed Trezor wallet. Picks are closed. diff is still near 20% coins are about 3700 bcc may have a bust out move when diff jumps 20% for btc. I have been mining it for a while. Hashrate is still all over the place and shows no sign of....normalcy. Plus another fork is incoming in a month (maybe), now that will be interesting to watch. One thing is for sure, Bitmain and friends sure succeeded with their evil plans for higher profitability....10% bonus on bitcoin balances + mining profitability for sha256 is much, much higher than before.
