Title: NEO vs GAS?
Post by: Skrodk on August 09, 2017, 07:54:21 PM
So when I have my NEO in the wallet, how often do I have to claim the GAS? Can you let it build up over time, then just send it once every 7 days or so, or do I have to sit there and claim it all the time, or it will "be lost" or some such?

I know its a stupid question but I gotta be sure! Thanks in advance :)

Damn. I must be living under a rock. I bought some NEO on Bittrex a couple of days ago. I kept it on Bittrex too. What's this GAS claim?  Being a noob sucks.

Warning: Bittrex does not give NEO owners GAS, they actually are keeping all gas to themselves.

For that sole reason I recommend anyone dont invest in GAS at all, since Bittrex is probably sitting on a very large ammount of them that they can dump anytime.

Binance is alternative exchange that gives the generated GAS to NEO owners, however the best way is obviously having the NEO in wallet owned by yourself :)

Indeed, they are related. However, it is not traded on Bittrex.

Ok i hold some neo, in a wallet but i read that it only generates GAS for 7 years and only the first year the most. It would decline over time and when the blockdifficulty gets harder it will eventually take 30 years to generate gas. Can someone tell me why the hell i would keep this NEO?

Allso, if i would sell the neo to another person would he then receive gas again like it was new?

I too find all this pretty hard to understand.

Edit: i was just about to make another thread and i figured i just ask it here as i recon it fits this thread.

"loyalty bonus" .. when you have your NEO in wallet, you earn GAS.
I bought NEO 5days ago, sent them immediately to wallet, now I have 0,23 GAS

But eventually it will not generate gas anymor right? And the way i read it somewhere on steem it will run out pretty quick. I thought this would be a nice yearly income but apparently its not like that.

That means bittrex claimed million dollars from all of the NEO that already traded on the exchange site.  ::) Bill must say thanks to the NEO holders in bittrex.
Look at this chart. https://coinmarketcap.com/assets/gas/

Wow, this is really an eye opener. Seems like we all holding NEO were unware of Gas Claim via Wallet. I though GAS is just sold on Exchange which will be used to power future NEO transactions.

I would say keep holding the GAS until you know entire picture. Also doesn anybody know whats the GAS claim rate/amount ?

Any idea how to actually claim the GAS?

I've had my NEO-s in my wallet for a month, what the web wallet says is:

Available GAS: 0
Unavailable GAS: 5.94

And the Claim button does nothing. I googled a lot, found nothing...

Yes, you need the neo wallet to generate GAS. If you have all your NEO at bittrex, they get all the GAS.

Helllo,

I use the newest NEON Wallet (link above) it shows me on the "green button" Claim 0.004 "whatever" GAS .  When I press the claim button, its shows that it syncs, but the GAS amount in my wallet stays at 0?

What Im doing wrong?
Thx

This was the way to go for Antcoin, probably still the same procedure:

9. Claiming your AntCoins

Once you have funds in your wallet you are ready to claim your AntCoins.

click on "Advanced" -> click on "AntCoin Claim"

You will see "available" and "unavailable" amount of Antcoins. The button "Claim all" will be greyed out.

In order to get your "Unavailable" amount to "Available" you need to transfer your AntShares to your own address.

Go to the tab "Account", right click your AntShares address holding funds. click "copy to clipboard".

Now click "Transaction" on the top of your window -> click "Transfer" Click the "+ sign" to add a recipient. Select asset: AntShares Pay to: paste your address holding your funds Amount: enter the number of AntShares you are currently holding in that address. Click "OK"

Note: you can just send 1 AntShare your first time, if you just wanna test it out.

Once the transaction is confirmed (see "Transaction History" tab) go to "Advanced" click "Antcoin Claim".

You will now be able to claim your available AntCoins and they will show up in your wallet.

Repeat step 9 to claim newly generated AntCoins.

Q: The price of Gas has surpased the price of Neo.

A: You dont need Gas to take part on Ico. It takes 500 Gas to carry iut complicated smartcontract. If your SC is sinple it is now free to deploy. Only when you need persistant storage and the SC is long you need to pay 500 GAS. And then if the computation is simple the first 10 GAS is free. You only need to pay from the 11th gas if it is complicated SC. With an ICO, since you will be getting a lot of money you can probably afford the 500 GAS. The new government token holders will decide how much GAS is necessary.

From the conference re neogas

Sounds like the coinbase scam. They make money off your gas just like they dumped all the BCC they got and will buy it all back cheap later on before they issue it.

Actually its kind a like staking your NEO and getting GAS in return without a staking wallet. So I am not sure whether we can ask exchange to deposit the same or accumulate the same and honor it when GAS gets listed on same.

I would like to ask is NEON wallet SAFE to store your NEO ? I dont see any possible protection for the wallet and everytime you need to use your private key which is generated by wallet itself to unlock it.
I have some bad feeling about this wallet, dont know why!

Any inputs will be much appreciated.

Two questions:

Was Bittrex also able to claim on former ANS positions?

Shouldn't we chase Bittrex to credit our gas for our positions? Same for the abnormal high fee

How can I transfer gas out of my neon wallet? Just see Neo for transfer.

I would choose NEO because I know that it is a project supported by a large part of the Chinese community. Last year I invested in Neo when first started running ICO but unfortunately I sold out too early for some personal reasons.
However, I believe NEO will be a heavyweight opponent in the market.

I am interested in this coin as well. The dynamic between gas and NEO is an interesting one and also a little complex. I like it. I hope the exchanges will distribute owners GAS as they have done with BCH mainly.

I just dont understand this GAS thing in my wallet. Yesterday when i trasfered my money to the new wallet i had some gas like 0.0003456 or something. Today i am opening the wallet and this amount is gone, just a button "Claim 0 GAS" When i hit the button it says Sending transaction to your self. What is this all about and why my gas clock is gone since yesterday. Like all gas i earned yesterday is gone. I dont get it how it works. Anybody can exmplain...

Anyway what i can do with that earned gas later? Send it to my ledger wallet for future transactions or change it to NEO coins.? What is this for .....People say is not tradable

Seems like GAS is a kickstarter to get people interested in the technology

NEO to BIttrex

If it is true please confirm

For NEO transfers, the following should be noted: As a friend has written correctly, Neo does not use decimal places !!! However, the charge for sending NEO is 0.1 Neo and should then be added to the desired transfer. So if you want to send 20 Neo then transfer 20.1 Neo and then get on Bittrex 20 Neo. But if you send 20 Neo, you will only get 19 on Bittrex and you will have lost 0.9 Neo. Please pay attention

Figured it out - have to transfer NEO to be able to claim gas (to make it available). You can just transfer to same address and this makes it available so you can claim. :)

You will want both. NEO is ownership of the network, but GAS powers the network. Right now, the answer should be NEO because it is generating GAS if you hold it with the rate of generation decreasing over time. It's free mining.

i will agree with this, supposedly GAS long term will be a very hot commodity, the best thing you can do is put your NEO in the NEON wallet to receive GAS over time, theres calculators online that show you how much GAS you get from the equivalent of NEO you have... I hope NEO can start to grow again because it was at $50 for a while and now its dropping with the China news, but supposedly China isnt banning all ICOS and are just going to regulate so well see

Do you send it to the same adress as NEO? It seems confusing two assets on one adress?

Whats the point of Gas?...can you move it?....Is there a point in collecting it?

WTF is going on?)
$17.15NEO and $14.43GAS on neoexplorer

Why GAS price is closing to price of NEO ???

While NEO generate GAS, it is very slow.  You need about 500 NEO to generate one GAS a week.

Right now it doesn't matter much since there are no projects running under NEO platform yet (RPX is yet to go live)... but many speculators see the future demand for GAS.  Generation of GAS stops in a few years too so imagine how much the demand for it will be if NEO becomes China's ETH.  Some used GAS get "recycled" so available qty will eventually start to decline but not run out totally.

Again, prices are based on speculation and if you bet right, you could reap big rewards later (or not).

A well known (and very expensive) financial adviser actually believes GAS will eventually worth more than NEO.

Eventually, all transactions done with NEO based tokens will need GAS.

It is like having a car (NEO based tokens), if you don't have gas, you can't use it. ;)

And i am super super excited when they mention about NEX which is like the protocol for decentralise exchanges especially cater to neo ecosystem. I love the neo community like the COZ which they are doing amazing things and other contributor like lrp.

2x stopped saying yesterday, and then I saw neo and gas rising first, suggesting neo and gas are childish coins that can hold for long periods of time, neo vs gas? I think the development of neo will be better, but gas in the poloneix trading, and neo is not much difference.

If you believe in NEO, then you need to hold some GAS too. Both these should rise together
to new highs next year.

Damn. I must be living under a rock. I bought some NEO on Bittrex a couple of days ago. I kept it on Bittrex too. What's this GAS claim?  Being a noob sucks.

Gas is generated for holding NEO. GAS has its own price too.

If you are going to hold NEO for a long time. Then it is much better to store it on NEON wallet for you to receive the GAS

It must be a way don’t claim every time for GAS. Some time ago I had NEO and work with it. But GAS tokens were accrued automatically as long as I remember. It will be better you write message to admin of your wallet. Maybe some rules have changed.

AFAIK the rules have not changed - if you manage your NEO in (as I do for instance) the NEON wallet, it will accrue the GAS automatically. No need to be active at all, you can claim it in the app any time you like.

i got burned on neo back when it was at $40. i sold for btc so all was good. i am very skeptical on alts, so i am waiting for a big fall or i will just write it off as one of those what ifs. i do like the gas idea with neo but all the marketing and guest lectures makes them look scammy and like a mlm. are they really the next great coin? seems more bluster than proof.

I am not sure whether we can ask exchange to deposit the same or accumulate the same and honor it when GAS gets listed on same.

I think someone knows something big, as GAS was bought month ago in big quantity, up to 150 times
than list price (8 ETH for 1 GAS)

Okay so bittrex is holding a bunch of GAS from their NEO holders,if they dump the GAS Bitrrex would have free money from nothing.People should be aware of this so they wont get rekt about this GAS.

Bittrex said yesterday that they're looking at the possibility of distributing GAS to NEO holders. Not definite, but at least they're assessing it.

People who's holding at bittrex they should understand that their NEO tokens not mining them GAS if they still have them on web site, resend them to your NEON wallet or other to get GAS

Since someone bought 1 month ago all GAS on poloniex up to 8 ETH per 1 GAS price, is
that some kind of indicator how high it will go now?

GAS is nothing but fees for transaction in future NEO chain! More you can accumulate now the better as once this chain is live and running GAS price gonna sky rocket!

I think Bitrex will continue to store gas at home, just take neo wallets to NEOs and collect gas.

Why are you comparing something of itself? Without Gas, NEO can't survive. Without NEO, we can't have GAS.

These two cannot live without each other. I love how NEO made sure they needed GAS but as an equivalent cryptocurrency not the gwei we have in Ethereum Blockchain.

Makes you wonder how the two can coincide and live with each other. ^^

I got scorched on neo back when it was at $40. I sold for btc so all was great. I am exceptionally suspicious on alts, so I am sitting tight for a major fall or I will simply discount it as one of those what uncertainties. I do like the gas thought with neo however all the advertising and visitor addresses influences them to look scammy and like a mlm. it is safe to say that they are extremely the following awesome coin? appears to be more rave than verification.
