Title: Coinbase issue
Post by: badjacks99 on October 01, 2017, 02:33:51 AM
When I first got into bitcoin coinbase was the one wallet I found that seemed trusted and reliable. Everything is working out great until about eight months ago I got contacted by them saying they no longer allow US customers and that i needed to withdraw my btc. I did so. My issue is, i have a local friend who has a coinbase account and he has never heard of this or been contacted by coinbase. Was wondering if any americans had the same experience?

I'm a US resident/citizen that registered an account on Coinbase, loaded it with CC AND US Bank account funds purchased BTC all within the past three months and I never had an issue with them.

You need to pass their stringent and rigorous KYC verification checks before you can trade or transact with them without headaches. Yes, they are FinCEN licensed and regulated but they operate under strict government guidelines governing money movements.

What I find surprising is your post above about Coinbase not allowing US customers when in fact they are a US based exchange and usually cater to US residents first and foremost. Care to explain more?

Are you sure that they have banned US citizens?

They are a primarily US based company so i doubt that they have stopped serving US based citizens at all. Plus, on their official website states that US is clearly still accepted as a country: https://www.coinbase.com/global?locale=en.

However, their support is completely horseshit right now. Honestly, i would not use them even if they were open to your country simply because of the sheer amount of complaints that are currently open against them.

It may be just a select few states that are not able to use Coinbase anymore but you are definitely able to still use Coinbase if you are in the majority of US states. I've not received any emails from them personally.

I don't think that anyone else have received the same email you received either.

Is it possible that you may have received a phishing email?

That's weird, I've never heard of them banning US customers - Coinbase is US based!
I have referrals from the US and this has never come up before..

I'm in Australia and although Coinbase doesn't allow me to withdraw fiat, I can still use the wallet without any problems.
I Send BTC and ETH in and out of my Coinbase wallet everyday for over a year - never had an issue..

Also me either never receive anything in my coinbase account.. i think you receive some email which is not from coinbase.. or a fake one..
Better to be careful but coinbase still not active.. But the only that i experience bad in their wallet is pending transactions.. before but it fixed
And other than this issue almost all are ok except for high fee in the past..
I think could be a fake news someone are sending you or its a spam mail..  I receive any kind of suspicious in my email these days and almost all are scam honestly i notice sometimes their email are different from the original one..

That. If Coinbase would really end up not allowing US citizens to make use of their services despite themselves being a US business, social media would literally explode.

I some times receive emails from exchanges (while in reality it's just a phishing mail) that I am not even reregistered at, that someone requested a password reset and I have to approve or disapprove it.

I am obviously directly deleting these mails, but there are some people falling for it and click on whatever link where they then have an infected system, and from there who knows what happens......

I think you either were a victim of a spam email or you didn't pass their KYC (Know Your Customer) requirements and thus they're closing your account.  I've been using Coinbase for years (I don't even remember doing KYC) and never got an email about removing support.

I wouldn't wonder, if the emails would be real. There are many threads about coinbase in the last weeks, as well as poloniex
. Maybe laws force them, to through out U.S. citizens?

LOL this could be any of your friend or any stranger messing around with you. Sure they got you well in this case.
You do know that Coinbase is an American based exchange right ? Why would they want Americans to remover their BTC off their wallet ?
This should have been the first thing to come to your mind while the stranger did a prank call on you unless you don't know the fact that Coinbase is  an American based exchange. :-\

In my opinion you probably received a fake email. Perhaps a phishing link trying to get you to log into your coinbase in order to gain your login details. Check your email inbox again - if it's a phishing email and you clicked on it, change your password rightn ow.

US is still an accepted country as per coinbase terms and conditions. Are you sure you didn't misread the email either?

I mean Coinbase is a US company, if it bans US customers then it would shut down itself.

It is not possible that any state is not able to use coinbase. Coinbase is an international platform which is used by many people around the globe. How can this be possible that it is not available in any country or state? It may be having some internal issue with an individual or something.

Looks like you are the only one who receive the email that US is not allowed to withdraw btc the other people who live in US posted here are not receive even your friend is not receive..
To clear up about your issue better  to reply or contact the support of coinbase to clear about the email you receive so that we know exactly if that is a fake or real. .

Try to chat the live support here .. https://support.coinbase.com/customer/portal/emails/new
Or email them. .

and i think if they send it to your email maybe this is mistaken. .

I think that this might make the most sense. The friend i spoke of has his account made in a different state. I will contact coinbase again to see if i can get a proper response. Like i said this was a little while ago, i hadnt really had the time to get it sorted out.

As far as it being a phishing email, im pretty certain it wasnt that. I had 2fa and the email said my account wouldnt close until i got my funds out.

I mainly used my coinbase for gambling, sending transactions back and fourth, could this have been an issue?

Thats quiet odd since you are also a US resident and they do prohibit Americans to use their service?Supposedly that coinbase dont have restrictions on where are those users coming from as long you wont able to violate their tos or limits.Im not an american citizen but i can able to make use of coinbase without any problems but solely for wallet not for making any purchasing transactions.

Similar case here. I have a friend using Coinbase since maybe 2 years and never have a problem since, me too I am using it since 3 years maybe. We both live in the same country.
About 3 months ago he has been contacted and be told that Coinbase doesn't work anymore with people from our country (outside US) has asked him politely to go to another place since he is not welcome anymore. Surprised by this, we also noticed that Coinbase removed our country from their list of accepted country.
The problem is he is the only one I know who received such invitation to leave the site.

People here who are giving Complains about coinbase has been with coinbase for over 2-3 years now, I have only used coinbase a year now, but have not received any difficulty with them. I guess this depends on the country, cause I have a same country guy who has been using coinbase before I knew about bitcoin and has no worries with them.

This kind of situation would really be on random some people do experience problems with coinbase and some is already using their service for how many years and still haven't experienced any issues.Related on the situation posted on op.Why hes being blocked on using their service without any warnings? that's an unprofessional way on handling users.

Hopefully I wont experience such thing since ive been using coinbase solely as a wallet not on using it on purchasing bitcoins or whatsoever. I'm not using it on gambling which is really against on their tos.For now I haven't experience issues as of now.If theres one then I would definitely send support tickets regarding on the issue I do experience and also this is not also my main wallet I'm just using it as a medium on my micro transactions online.

It is normal because you are an US citizen, i am not from there, and that is the main reason of why i have not being warned about my bitcoins, because i use coinbase too. I know that a lot of us residents are having trouble with most of the online wallets, and this is nothing new, because the government does not want anything related to bitcoin. this is bad, yes, but you can store those btc in an offline wallet.

8 months and 3 months ago, it seems that Coinbase didn't warn everyone to leave their site at once.
Imagine if hundreds or thousand customers withdraw their funds/bitcoin from coinbase within a day or two, then Coinbase will find it difficult to refund all of those money and bitcoins, I guess. But, this problem regards Coinbase services has been discussed for a long time, since IRS cracked down and their policy become more stringent for people outside the country, it's better to warn everyone you know to leave Coinbase for good.

coinbase  is worst ever really
i start with them when btc was $150 - 200 area
and no time to search other places so i stuck with them, every time was sending money from checking us acc to coinbase bumm $50 limit (was trying to buy 5k or 10k) yes after 2 years still $50 stupid really
of course cursed spent to much time with support team finally give up.
they have all paper works about me us passport ssn copy employer proof of address proof selfie image title of business (yes same state new york with coinbase)
i was able to buy and sell small amount at their famous gdax exchange.

now I had an  order from china and tried to sent btc like about 20k to them.
coinbase link divert me to create a wiring ticket,
i did here we go again your name and bank acc name doest match your account is restricted againnnn :S

their system ask your login credential to log in bank account and gather all your info but stupid thing goes get my business name (business and personal bank attached at the bank) and come back no match ??? different name here we go!
why not checking who is authorized name at business account or why gathering info of business account when i add my personal checking.

whatever I m done coinbase you guys are sick
now I need to find a reliable way to convert usd to btc

note biz is real and all btc transfer are recorded thru exchange (we have to wire anyway right) so tax irs is no problem at all.
their support response ticket in weeks with another stupid question instead of a solution.
how this company really not collapsing? they will soon i do belive
