Title: Replacement Fan Issue - ASUS RX580 - T129215SM
Post by: hashman724 on October 06, 2017, 02:11:32 AM

Anyone else run into this?

Have a ASUS RX580, one of the fans failed.

Everflow Model: T129215SM DC 12V 0.25AMP, 4-Pin, 95mm, Square screw back

Only thing I found was a old ali express listing...

https://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/Original-Graphic-cards-cooling-fan-for-ASUS-RX580-T129215SM-DC12V-0-25A-diameter-95MM-FONSONING/930148_32817477105.html

Any ideas?

The cards are still under warranty. I would contact Asus. If you don't want to wait for an RMA, they may be able to ship you replacement fans.

I am in the same situation. Did you found this replacement fan anywhere? Or able to repair it? I couldn't.

If you could make that fit that would work perfectly till you find the fan. Find out how may Millimeters the fan is and find something close to it and splice the wires. Most fans on the 580 should be close to the same size. So one from another company should work if it is same size and fan holes to frame.

https://www.nzxt.com/products/kraken-g10-white-- if worst comes to worst this is compatible to fit but need to buy a aio for it.

The problem is that they probably are sleeve bearing, like the Gigabyte ones that i had to change on a 1060 G1 Gaming.
I decided to RMA them.

Where's OP, have you fix your problem?
Only adding and share my own experience, in case another member has the same problem with OP's

ASUS have an issue with fan, all of my R9 series card run with 100% fan-speed, but only ASUS that troubled with the fan (more than one ASUS card). MSI, XFX, and Sapphire seem fine till now.

I didn't have time to repair its fan, so I'm just adding 12V PWM fan on the front of that broken fan. Seem worked well for me.

Just because I do not want to start another thread with the same topic I am simply going to ask my question here, sorry if it's off topic.
I have RX580, but Sapphire Nitro+ Special Edition and yesterday I heard that 2 fans on 2 different cards are making some noises and I think of replacing them, because I do not want any trouble in future. The cards came without spare fans tho.
Is it possible to just buy some replacement fans, ofc I will get the same sized fans, not bigger or smaller and install them on my GPUs? Would that interfere in any way with the card?

As long as its dimension same as the original one, It's okay. Like I said in other posts before, I even add external 12inc fan (12V) and use different power source.

Not just possible, it's often better.
You need a good fans (Delta Electronics), same size as heat sink. Not gpu fans, just fans.
Then remove everything from card except the heat sink and put a new ones firmly.
You need an external power supply for it, not from card but from PSU or MB. And it'll be noiser.
In my practice, the cooling is even better than the original solution. It also often cheaper and designed to work 24/7 at 100%, unlike original fans which worn out quite fast if set to 100%.
In case of turbine cooling new heat sink might be needed if it doesn't allow air intake from a top of it.

It is possible, but if you want replacement fans then, according to Vann, you can get them directly from sapphire for not that high price:
Replacements are $12.50 each including shipping from Sapphire and they are super easy to replace.
Isn't sapphire only selling led versions, that slightly different (0.35 vs 0.42 current, different noise floor). Only place I've found CF1015H12D selling is single lot on ali, that not available anymore, and it was $26.5 per fan. So, can you tell where are you getting such cheap replacements from sapphire directly?

The replacement black fans are available from Sapphire. Email Sapphire at tech@althonmicro.com. The LED fans are for retail stores.

Also, more generally good advice it that thread - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2949541.0;all

Thanks a lot for the idea, mate ! I might try that in the near future. The problem is  that my rig is currently in the middle of my living room, since I cannot afford moving to a bigger apartment, just because it's not worth it just for this rig to do this.
I am planning on expanding, depending on both CMC and GPU markets, and if I see some kind of a green light I might just do that and for sure I will try this technique.
Currently my fans are working at 35-40% load and the cards are around 45 Celsius, which is really good imo. I might buy an external fan just for the summer, because I do not have AC in my apartment and I will need to find a solution about that it.

Seems wasteful, what did you do with your old radiators, just threw them away?

Sapphire nitro gpus and pulse ones are great because Its easy fix.

U can buy extra fans, Its Good to have when u get a fan failure.

You can find on amazon or newegg spare fans to buy for your gpu.

That's good, but also, you need to cool another component on the left and right those fan cooler. That's why its default heatsinks were long enough to reach another element next to it.

Hi all, I've got the same issue. One of the cooling fans of my ASUS DUAL RX 580 went down. I ordered a replacement, it was offered as "more powerful", so I went for it. It was 0.55A compared with 0.25A of the standard one. When I replaced the fan (I've tried replacing just one fan or both) the card was working at first but as soon as I start mining it crashes after a few seconds.

Is there any way to adjust settings - either OC or BIOS - to fix this? Or 0.55A fans just won't work here?

I don't understand why that happened. So far I have used VPM(Delta) and ordinary fans made by local brands in my country to replace one R9 and 1060 fans, already 9 months have never crashed as you have experienced.

Or:
- have you tried checking the cable power from/to the fan connector?
- make sure the fan socket on the GPU is in good condition (meaning there is "nothing strange")

You will need to buy the fan with 0,25A rating. I did locate exactly the same model on Aliexpress here:
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/95MM-T129215SM-0-25AMP-Graphics-Video-Card-Cooler-Fan-FOR-ASUS-DUAL-RX580-O8G-Graphics-Card/32858768243.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.49484c4dF3pTBT (https://www.aliexpress.com/item/95MM-T129215SM-0-25AMP-Graphics-Video-Card-Cooler-Fan-FOR-ASUS-DUAL-RX580-O8G-Graphics-Card/32858768243.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.49484c4dF3pTBT)

Why did the fans on the Asus RX580 Dual fail? I have my theories:

1) Graphics card might have run too hot with too high fan speed over prolonged time. Or in a dirty environment.
2) Physical damage - fan blade being pressed on, thus damaging the bearings. The construction is so that the fan is located above the fan shroud, thus unprotected from physical trauma.

I bought mine RX 580's used without warranty. So I am forced to fix the problem myself. The fans I bought works fine. I will order more. 3 of the 4 RX 580's I bought are have the same problems. On some both fans were faulty, on some only one.

The fans on the Sapphire Pulse and Nitro are superior to the Asus Dual, and they are easy to change too. Also build quality on the Sapphire cards are superior.

You can connect these units from the main power supply, and use a resistor to adjust the speed.
I also have problems with fans on ASUS video cards. I turn off the main cooling system and attach the usual 80x80 or 90x90 fans to the top.
The only drawback is the noise.
