Hey guys! Will Electrum wallet support Bitcoin GOLD? If so how it works? If not, where should I locate my funds to receive Bitcoin GOLD and keep them safe? Thanks for any help.

Don't worry. There is no need to move your BTC. Keep them in electrum.
BTCG will be credited to address holding the BTCs and if electrum won't support BTCG it then you can always sweep/import the address to any other wallet which do.

WE still have to wait for more info about this matter. As of now just wait and be patient if someone will make an export software for bitcoin gold.

Any wallet, which provides you a private key. Depends, what kind of wallet you want. For paper and mind wallet you could use bitaddress.org, mobile wallet for example mycellium or coinomi and hardware wallets.
Don't is blockchain.info. They will probably not support Bitcoin Gold.

As long you have the private key you are good. I recommend to move your bitcoin first to a new address you have control of the  private key before you import your private key to claim the free BTCG. Or wait for the codes are verified and safe to use.

I do not know if there are any chances that no Electrum servers at all will connect to the forked chains (Gold and Segwit2x for now, probably more to come later), or if there would always be some knowledgeable manager willing to offer at least one Electrum server for the split, regardless the nature of the fork and how controversial it might be.

In case no Electrum server at all is connected to the forked chain, users would have to find  another way using their private keys, which their cold-storage Electrum instance will give them very simply after asking for the wallet password.

ALSO, I ignore if a multi-signature wallet can be more problematic, probably not if at least one Electrum server is connected to the forked chain, no idea otherwise, so I'd avoid it.

More knowledgeable users are very welcome to contribute of course.

Let's suppose that I have my BTC on my computer on an electrum wallet. During the fork I have to do smth or just wait for the BTC gold to be sent in my account?

Once the fork happens, any address who have BTC, have also 1:1 Bitcoin Gold. That means if you have 0.01 BTC in your address, then 0.01 Bitcoin Gold is at the fork in the same address but on a different network.
In Electrum your coins are safe because you have access the key seed/private key which makes easy to sweep Bitcoin Gold.

Do you think btc will drop significantly after the fork? If I'm not mistaken when bitcoin cash happened btc didn't drop and actually went up but btc is now at twice the value it was when bitcoin cash happened.

That is questionable. On fork date, Bitcoin Gold is independent of the standard Bitcoin, it has its own demand. There might be for sure a price decrease on that date, because of worry and confusion but will recover to the height again.

I think that Bitcoin is now overbought. Many switched on btc just to receive btc gold. Maybe not directly after the fork but in the near term I think btc will have a downside rally after the switch to altcoins.

well who don't want a free money if same thing will happen like bch then more people will rush buying btc before the fork happens and I think you are right

Thank you for this article link. I had quite a bit of trouble during the BCC fork, and went through a lot of difficulty in obtaining mine, after exporting private keys and what not. But I think I will not panic and just wait for 2 weeks after this fork, before moving out my Bitcoin Gold. That way, everything is stable and the networks won't be so congested. I see Electrum is the recommended wallet for many things now. I should consider switching to it permanently!

Thanks for the reply. I guess I'm so used to seeing btc below 5k that at 6k or higher you would think it would drop down. I do see btc mentioned a lot more on fox business and other financial channels that it might be the norm after the fork. 

No losing key if you backup your private key.just backup your private key than you install new version electrum.

Well I think as long as you backed up your key you are safe to update your wallet since it will only be asked in order for you to use the newer version just be sure that you backed it up correctly and always save it two or more times to be more secure and safe.

Yeah lets wait for any announcements on how we can be safe. But as the last fork its safer not to move bitcoin till that day. It is best.

No, Bitcoin Gold has a replay protection. That means the broadcasted transaction from the current chain cannot rely on the other chain, in other words, not accepted by the other chain.
However, at the next fork, there might be a risk of replay, because it is unknown whether they implemented a replay protection.

I'd like to confirm something.

Say you have your Bitcoin stored in your Electrum Wallet, and you want to move/spend this Bitcoin prior to obtaining your BitCoin Gold; do you need to record the keys in order that you can later obtain your Bitcoin Gold? Or is there anything else you must do? I wish to move/spend my Bitcoin, but I don't want to lose the Bitcoin Gold allocation if I can avoid it.

Hey Zu,

in the first place, your private key need to had the btc just before the fork. When the fork happened, it just split the number of btc of all wallets. So, if you had btc on your electrum wallet when the fork happened, it would be good to remove all btc from this wallet before claim it in electrum (when it offers support to btg), due the replay protection and other stuff.

When the fork happened, it divide the amount of all btc present in the private keys.
To claim you btg wallet, you will need the same private key which where the btc in the fork time. That's why it is a good suggestion to remove all btc from the wallet before claim the btg.

I'm quite new to Bitcoin and have them still on Kraken.
As far as I understood now, in order to get BTG I have to store them into a wallet.
Now my question, would it have been necessary that they were already in a wallet on 25th of October to have the correct private key (not sure if what I just said is crap ;D)? Are there any timelines by which I need to move my bitcoins to a wallet (if not to late already) and for opening the BTG wallet?

Yes, the snapshot was taken on 24th (it was supposed to be 25th) so it's too late to do anything about it now.

I'm on the same. So far was able to sell only the coins received by bitfinex.
You just need to wait and watch new announcements for wallets which claimed to support it (Coinomi, freewallet, guarda). 

Electrum probably won't publicly support bitcoin gold but since with electrum you control your own private keys there shouldn't be a problem with claiming your bitcoin gold when you are able to do so at official launch.

Just like bitcoin cash, you are able to export the private keys elsewhere to split your coins.

Electrum is one of the best and trustworthy wallets out there.

CAUTION

Above mentioned wallet is not "official electrum wallet".
Personaly I'm very sceptical about it as to me it looks like the author is just trying to take advatage of well known "electrum wallet" to lure people (what other reason could be to name it like that ??)

Likely a scam indeed. Bitcoingold.org does not show any electrum variant as wallet and the site linked above links to at first glance shady pages that ask you to "import" your private keys/seeds. For some reason they require you to have a current bitcoin (BTC) balance, which is bullshit. You just needed to have a BTC balance for block 491406 in order to have BTG now.

Haha, from all the scams I've seen this must've been one of the easiest ones to spot.

I'm guessing, after that date, one might simply download the Coinimi wallet and import your Electrum keys into it to claim the Bitcoin Gold?

Yeah, thats my understanding as well. You can (and should!!) move your BTC first though as - as you said - the split already happened and BTG has replay protection.

If only this particular post can be deleted from the forum because even though people who are in the know believes its a way to steal the entire bitcoin you have, what of those newbie coming on the forum to seek information. Someone might fall for this and there wont be anything to be done to redeem the situation.

Hello all, I was scammed by this webside. I dont know how it happens to me, I am not a newbee regarding Bitcoin. But when i searched for a wallet where I can claim my bitcoin gold, I found the side electrum-gold.org. I was thinking to me if it is from electrum it must be secure and legit. The side looked nearly like the known electrum side. A few days ago I took a look in my ledger wallet and I was shocked, all my bitcoins were stolen. After that I took a look in my Jaxx wallet and I was shocked again, all my Ethereum were stolen too. All together 4.5 Bitcoins and 44 Ethereum. I entered my private key nowhere. I think it was a trojan. I had a file on a USB flash drive that was not connected all the time with my computer.

Can someone help me please what I can do now? What about the bitcointalk users that published the link here in the forum?
