I must admit that I only started investng in Bitcoin at around the $3000 price, but I saw it soar to nearly $8k in anticipation of the Seg2 split....which is now void...and the price is instantly plummeting as Bitcoin Cash is soaring?  WTF!  I've lost $2k in Btc in 48 hours?  Is BTC going to continue spiralling downward and for how long?  What is the bottom going to be?  Am I supposed to just transfer everything to Bitcoin Cash?  

Advice for a noob?  Thanks kindy!

Advice for a newb? Look at how Bitcoin Cash has always worked in the past. days of massive pumps and massive volume, huge price increases and everyone is so happy, the "NEW" "AMAZING" Bitcoin will sweep away the competition... Then the pumping stops. People run out of money. People start to sell off because they had been to lazy to bother colllecting their Bitcoin Cash and then there is a new all time low yet again. It's already done this at least twice from what I remember.

Rumors are Big money is moving everything to Bitcoin Cash and that they are going to destroy Core version of bitcoin.
It looks to be truthful , when you look at the trading volumes and the price changes.

Smart move , dump core's coin and move into fiat or bitcoin cash, at least for the next few weeks.
 

Not like this though. This pump is HUGE! Haven't seen anything this big in the crypto world yet. I'm riding the BCH pump to $1993. Then I shall scoop a profit. I actually expect it to go much higher than this, but I'm fairly cautious with my money.

Thanks dude.  That;s what I am reading too.  But I only have Coinbase.  Kraken takes 1-5 BIZ days to receive a deposit.  By then, I will lose out.  Was going to BUY a BCH rther than use by Coinbase BTC to trade it to BCH.  But maybe I should do the latter.  Unless someone can tell me how I can buy BITCOIN CASH INSTANTLY!!!!!!!!!!!!

Also, I sold my BCH over .2 at the last massive pump from 0.07-0.2 so yeah, this isn't anything new for BCH. the usually manipulation because so few are actually on the market compared to Bitcoin. Then people slowly think "Yeah I'd better crack open that paper wallet and sell this while it's at a high price." None of this is brought on because people think Bitcoin Cash is somehow better than Bitcoin.

There's a lot of love for Bitcoin by the developers, but if Bitcoin loses it's crown I bet that a lot will go over to BCH.

Ultimately, Bitcoin lost the ability to become usable currency. If business goes to BCH, then they lose the ability to be a store of value too.

They don't run out of money, they just convert their BTC's.

Really, this doesn't look like a joke anymore, buying BCH now is about saving  your money, not making profit anymore.
We're lucky that BCH is not traded on all exchanges, this would have happened more quickly :(

101% certain that those who went BCH do not give a f*** about what it really is. Otherwise they would have done that earlier.
It was first about profit, now it's about saving the boat.
I believe that once the BCH reaches half of the BTC's value, you will be losing a lot.
That is, if the BCH reaches 2500 (& it's close) while the BTC falls to 5000, I don't think you have any way of recovering this anymore.

If I break even from the crap that's happening, I'm leaving cryptotrading.

Sounds like OP has too much emotion going on here.  If you're getting pissed off, losing sleep, whatever--maybe you should take a step back and reevaluate your plan.   Bitcoin has been through much worse than this and I wouldn't fret.  If you didn't sell, then your losses are only on paper so far.  You only lose money when you sell.

You lost 2k of the possible money you might have got if you would have sold at 8000.
Just like how I lost a thousand times for not selling at the highest point and buying at the lowest.
Look at the bright side you have doubled your money even at this point.

Bitcoin transactions are INSTANT with fees, and 1 hour, or 2 hour, or 3 hour if you select lower fees.
Fees are not high.
There is ZERO reason for BTC to change or update anything.  The Block size does NOT matter, NOR effect Transaction speed.

Smaller blocks move faster than larger BCH blocks.

Bitcoin has retail and developer support.
Bitcoin is accepted by overstock.com, godaddy.com 300,000 retailers in Japan.. etc etc etc etc etc.
BCH is accepted by NOBODY except crypto exchanges, and person to person. 

Bitcoin is accepted, BCH is not.
In fact, without Bitcoin, BCH has ZERO value because BCH is not even accepted on the black markets.

well i'm currently waiting 30 hours for my transaction so it takes really long, and in the mean time the price goes down and i cannot do anything..

Can't tell you much that you'll believe since most of the time it requires for you to actually experience it, but just keep in mind that Ethereum was toted as a "Bitcoin killer" soon after it was first released, and it made some significant gains, but it slowed and sat in the position it is now. It's not a Bitcoin killer, and likely won't ever be, and yet this forum was filled to the brim with such statements.

I can't tell you what to do at all. All I know is that, based on my past experience, it will make gains, slow, and then we will return to normal, in my opinion.

It is really hard being cool when you see your investment going down, that is why emotions play a big role on investing not just technical skills. I think no one has expected the aky rocket price of bitcoin cash. Just hold your bitcoin because i am pretty sure that bitcoin will recover.

In the last days, as Segwit2x end was announced, the fees went up significantly and transaction time went up. This is the way to bring Bitcoin to its end. But hope, it is a tempotarly trend, because I kept Bitcoin, although I spent nearly 30% fees for a transaction, what is in my eyes not ok.

I'm not sure why it's happening, but I'm enjoying the ride. I have .02 of a BTC left that's at a loss already, so I'm leaving it, but the rest I've sold. Riding the BCH and will cash out soon to take my original investment and just leave the 'profit' invested there. When the market settles I'll re invest where fit.

it is impossible to call the bottom. so far it seems to not be able to stop. and the bigger it gets the more people will panic and start selling their bitcoin and crash the market more until the weak hands are completely flushed out of the market.
and with the current bitcoin cash ongoing pump, it is attracting a lot of money to itself and those who sell bitcoin go in bitcoin cash until the pump is over then they will come back to bitcoin with all their profit and bitcoin will rise.

it will probably take a while though. they can not pump BCH forever, it will eventually start blowing up.

Gentlemen, The enemy, the big blockers, have colluded and joined forces. The chinese, Jihan & co have put together a plan to replace bitcoin with bitcoin cash.  
  
The plan goes like this:  
Chinese miners (f2pool, antpool etc etc) have organised with major exchanges (via/huobi/okcoin etc) to support and launch bitcoin cash.  
Initially they will let everyone who wants to sell, sell.    
Once the coin has bottomed out, and everyone who wanted to sell has sold, they [chinese miners/jihad/chinese exchanges] will begin accumulating lots and lots of bitcoin cash.  
They will then begin to pump the price  to around 0.1 BCC/BTC - 10%  
The big pools won't mine it ~ they will let the smaller pools see the returns from mining this expensive, but low difficulty coin and start mining it.  
Later, the larger pools will join, and as we know, jihad has ALOT of hashing power, their plan is for bitcoin cash to have more hashing power than bitcoin ~ and lets be honest, once t he chinese move over, that is pretty much it.  
Around this time, the 'hard fork' section of segwit 2x is not going to happen ~ it never was - Bitcoin cash will then be seen as the original NYA coin..  
At that point in time, Bitcoin cash will be on all major chinese exchanges, possibly some western exchanges aswell, and have majority hashing power. Western companies & other merchant providers (BitPay - @Spair) etc - paid off by bitmain etc will go along with the new bitcoin cash narrative and will push for the 'bitcoin cash' to be called 'bitcoin' on all their platforms, leaving only coinbase et all which will then be the odd ones out..  
  
Now comes the scary part, The old bitcoin, the bitcoin we know and love, is going to get DESTROYED.  
What determines a coins success ? It's market cap.  
Big old school blockers and miners are going to dump bitcoin back to the bottom, they will take literally billions and billions of dollars out of bitcoin. They will use the money to fund the marketing, and development, or 'bitcoin cash' - Think, Bitcoin core - FIRED.  Think - forbes article, "why bitcoin miners and companies are moving to bitcoin cash" - think - "Why the market is chosing bitcoin cash as bitcoin not bitcoin core"  - They wil lsay the market has spoken, that people have voted with their money.  
  
Right now, massive huge shorts are being built, already on finex, shorts are at 32k - not seen since $200 these kinds of numbers of shorts, and its climbing, all the t ime, consistently, they have ALOT of coins to short.  
    
The most painful kind of selling, is where it never bounces and if you remember MtGox from $1000 to $70, you'll remember what no bounces feels like ~ and I can tell you. This won't be any better.

Even dumb people won't hang around if this is the way you conduct yourselves.  Even if your technology (segwit) was better, which it isn't, people don't like the dishonesty and the vote with their feet by moving to BCH where honesty reigns!

bitcoin is sucking all the cryptos for months. of course it would suffer a big crash sometime and the money had to be going elsewhere. I think BCH is not going back to where it was,but I also think that BTC will enter in drain mode again soon hahaha. (when did BCH suck the money like bitcoin did for such a long time? It might be a huge trap, who knows...)

Keep your BTC for a more long term perspective. This mess is about to get stable real soon.
Consider the following insights:

1. With this kind of price change, people have the tendency to dump once the profits become irresistible
2. BTC is still king!! It is the most widely used crypto in restaurants, hotels etc.
3. It seems the funds are all coming from one part o the world (ASIA). Seems to be a short-lived price manipulation. Not a consensus by
bitcoin holders around the world.

Thanks Boss.  Just saw BCH soar to 2450 then down....and BTC plummet to 5500 then up to 5800....all within a matter of minutes.  This volatility is crazy. But I'm trying to learn and keeping positive.  Long Term investor here.  :)

Pump and dump bro..Nothing has changed

You can buy BTC now while it's cheap. While I can imagine BCH reaching 0.5BTC again, it's gonna dump again when there. Hopefully the BCH has died now, only some haven't realized it yet.
I wish I had placed a limit order before 0.5, but I still managed to get out at 0.37.

Weird how Bittrex keeps reporting Bitcoin Cash' last price @ 0.39900000 (ATH), and hasn't updated the graph since that time at 07.30. Other coins are updated fine though...

a whale got smashed so hard on poloniex. 2600 btc at 0.5 bch buy order and it didn't last 10 minutes. poor guy

I'm not seeing that drop anywhere, though I do think that will happen for sure! This is a failed takeover Bitcoin cash is going to get smashed hard!

I sold everything at around 2.200 and I am really happy with it, esp. because I bought at 700. I am sure it will increase further more the next days, but do not expect it to be on a constant 2.500 level. Also: Too much stress, always take care of your health ;)

Haha, but imagine being on Bithumb. They have maintenance problems for an hour now, Coinmarketcap still shows 2.600. Poor guys. I remember Bitfinex being off for 25 minutes some days ago when BTC increased by 200 Dollars and everyone was complaining. But this Bithumb-fail is much much worse.


BTW Am I the only one hoping that the time of one coin ruling everything will be finally over soon? I cannot see it anymore, first BTC tanks, then BCH, and everything else is getting dumped into the process. Gave me the change to buy some IOTA, Neo, Dash and LTC cheap, but still. Stahp.

We undrstand your fears about losing the value of your coins and getting worried is very normal at such times . Yet you already know that bitcoin managed to rise again after every hard fork and ever new cryptos ( which all of them were very successfull at their beginnings and were direct threat to bitcoin ) . So i won't really be any worried and i won't really bother the value drop now because , and mark my words , no one will take the crown out of bitcoin .

Right now, my emotions are taking over, and I probably checked BTC price 10 times today already (usually I check once a day). Not good.
I rather let one week pass without checking the price and do other things. I won't sell. We need to be strong. But it is hard to deny how powerful BCC is.

One thing I don't get though is why so many BTC transactions are stuck and take ages since the start of the week. I don't get this since Segwitx2 was canceled, so why is it happening?

BCH has been used many times for a pump and dump and since Segwit2x is now suspended they are using this for their advantage and spreading rumors like BCH is going to defeat BTC and Business people are adopting BCH over BTC becuase of its low transaction fee and bigger block size.
A particular group of people, mostly big whales, are manipulating BCH price and pumping it to extreme. I am pretty sure the dump is near.
Get out quick if you have invested in it.

Best recommendation (even though it is also difficult for me): Do not check your Bitcoins (and Altcoins, if they are not very high-risk ones) for days or even for weeks. Believe me. I told my friends about Bitcoins, they invested in in (not much, maybe 1 BTC) and every once in a while they ask me, where Bitcoin is now. Then I tell them and they "Really? Wow, another grand!". And then they live their life, go outside, play, marry, etc.

dont mind it. It's a phase. jihan wu is trying to force bitchcoin cash onto the peoiple, but we know better. we know that bitcoin is the only real bitcoin, and he can take his forked altcoin, and stuff it.

Better get used to "gaining" and "losing" money with bitcoin. Just remember you only had it if you decided to sell it at one point. No point contemplating what ifs.

I think the battle between Bitcoin and BitcoinCash is still going on this week,maybe the bottom of Bitcoin is $5000 and do not transfer everything to BitcoinCash because that means you are betting on BitcoinCash

If I'm  lucky, I sleep through these things and just wake up to see some weird blips on the chart.

BTC is not going anywhere. It will gravitate back to it's recent levels and then increase from there. BCC is not getting listed on CME next month and soon after ETFs, BTC is.

But transactions times are abysmal right now. I have a 14 BTC transaction unconfirmed with a 0.00073684 BTC fee for 30 hours now. GDAX and Coinbase are cautioning slow transaction times. I think a lot of people are waking up to the fact that BTC at the moment is laboring under its own weight. (Maybe those 2X guys had a bit of a point.) BCC is looking looking undervalued, and as it always does, the pendulum swings too far at first.

Cool heads prevail. BTC is still the king. Recent events suggest that maybe BCC isn't the sh!tcoin some have been seeing it as.

(The real slaughter is coming in ETH. The have a DAO X3 on their hands right now. When people realize that ETC does everything ETH does at 1/20th the price, we're going to see the same action there, but worse.)

Seems miners are also intending to pump and dump. Antpool has been mining bch and not much btc over last 12 hours or so. Someone is looking for a huge pump dump.

Looking at the market price now, I'm caught in between buying btc at this dip or going straight for bch. BCH has risen 93% in 24h... it's the dice roll of the century...

just commit the fact the value of bch is from btc, you can't not use bch anywhere else exchange back to btc

So, basically financial regulation in major markets like UK, USA, and Japan means that only the ultra ultra rich can do pump and dumps. If you cross them they can pump and dump your entire country's currency.

  Now with crypto slightly less rich people are getting the opportunity to pump and dump entire currencies too.

  My vote is for hodl.

 The big backlog of txs is mostly very low fee txs and panic sellers trying to move their funds to exchanges. This in no way reflects any kind of fatal issue with bitcoin itself. However this should encourage people to continue developing altcoin infrastructure.

  Every method of coin governance has trade offs. Of course there is more freedom and flexibility with smaller coins, because there is much less at stake and far fewer interests.

  Did anybody seriously think there was going to a rally to $7k and then a sweet years long period of stability at $7k? Or a continuous run up to $100k? It would not fit with the pattern. BTC rallies generally seem to involve 500%-2000% increases (rough guesstimate) with crashes down 80% from the high. Why would this time be different?

  There's a bunch of new money, again, that doesn't really now what's going on, again, and gets easily spooked. Again.

  When BCH has infrastructure built up to the level of BTC, then it can happily overtake BTC due to differences of opinion. That will take years. Until then, it ain't gonna happen.

 I'm pretty sure it is temp pump for BCH. BTC is the main cryptocurrency on the market and still will be. i Have been using BTC since it was 400. Many crypto tried to compete with BTC in the past but no luck.

Bitcoin Cash is a hedge against bitcoin. If we're going to talk about real world events other than correlate everything to pure speculation (the latter is the likely case since we're talking crypto) then it could be relater to either the Bitcoin Gold fork, or the 2x madness or perhaps even both.

Likely opportunists who have been planning a pump and dump taking advantage of cancellation of 2x and a lull in the BTC rally to cash in.

Exactly, the voice of reason have started buying up original bitcoin again and the price has started recovering tremendously as i gaze the market on my computer, hopefully by the end of this week we will be back in full swing.

Exactly. And if you held your forked coins, the sum of BTC + BCH is over $7000. It's the people who dumped their BCH cheap who are suffering.

We all agree that it is a kind of a pump, but the main concern here is that the bitcoin cash is stealing network power from bitcoin mainet, which means that we are going to have less frequently blocks for the next few weeks, until the difficulty adjustment.

The fact that the legacy chain bitcoin is going to rule at the long run doesn't change the fact that the rise of the bitcoin cash damages the eco system of bitcoin.

It was a well timed thing to be sure, but really isn't sustainable at all. BTC will simply correct a few weeks/months later and things will be on their normal path again.

Buy BCH scam at the current price is to waste money.

The drop on bitcoin is really alarming, yet if you look at how much you earn when you start to invest in bitcoin you can see that you still have profit. I suggest you to take your profit and change it to fiat or invest on other crypto to prevent defecit on your money. this is more a power play/market manipulation from the BCh camp. im not mad at it, survival of the fittest. if we are truly going to be democratic about this, then the will of the consensus rules. its a bit too late to be butthurt because we allowed the consensus to be subverted; its time to take it back by out scaling with mining capacity.

You don't need that anger, be patient. I think the panic sell will not be long and will change to panic buying. If we look at the price chart of bitcoin in a 1W frame, bitcoin is supposed to be a correction to $ 6000 and the lowest will be at $ 5000. After that the price will go back to $7000, so now would be a good time to buy bitcoin.
I still hold my bitcoin and wait for a good price to sell them.

Bitcoin cash is just another rival of bitcoin and this is nothing new in the crypto world. Bitcoin has already faced so many rivals and beaten all them successfully.

Eth has already done this drama with bitcoin and is now totally dependent on bitcoin for increase and decrease in its values. Bitcoin is the master of all currencies and I am pretty sure that any other currencies whether digital or paper cannot beat it.

I do not believe that bitcoin cash can be a competitor to bitcoin. We have seen well-planned speculative transaction. Bitcoin cash could have been chosen at random. Bitcoin was falling in price but we don't know whose capital is left bitcoin. Maybe it was the outflow of capital speculators. It turns out that the share of whale in bitcoin around 30%. A maximum on how much can fall in price of bitcoin. I think it's not a bad record.

It's not just another rival. It's a fork that has airdropped coins to every BTC holder, and it's a fork that uses the same algorithm, and thus the same hardware for miners.
