Title: How to kill Bitcoin?
Post by: jonemil24 on November 16, 2017, 10:04:45 AM
 ???
I searched how to kill Bitcoin on the search box and saw nothing, so I'll just start a new one.

Is it true that miners are the one responsible for every transactions?
If yes; why didn't the government of China just ban cryptocurrency mining or am I just missing something out?

If there are no transactions or maybe just less than 10 made transaction happened within 24 hours, how will the mining computer work then?, will it just go idle? What if people decided to hodle their coins, will it be unfair for the miners?

 ???

The search feature on this forum isn't very good. Use a proper search engine, Google advanced search will return countless results:

Google Search (https://www.google.com/search?hl=en&as_q=how+to+kill+bitcoin&as_epq=&as_oq=&as_eq=&as_nlo=&as_nhi=&lr=&cr=&as_qdr=all&as_sitesearch=bitcointalk.org&as_occt=any&safe=images&as_filetype=&as_rights=)

As long as three nodes are mining a blockchain can survive so China can't kill it by stopping the miners. It would slow down considerably until the next difficulty adjustment then it would be back to normal.
If there were only a few transaction, so what? There is still a 12.5BTC block reward to mine for.
The more people hodl the lower the supply so the higher the price and the greater incentive to mine.

Have the government fully interven with the all what's happening around bitcoin then you can see so many increase in transaction fees then it will be start of people getting mad at bitcoin because of these corrupt officials who enjoyed their luxurious lifestyle at the expense of other people's money. Then have them permanently ban bitcoin that is one of the major fears of the users also having no business exchanging bitcoins yikes.

China doesn't have majority of miners and even if chinese government will decide to ban crypto mining there are thousands of other miners around the world who will be happy to expand their mining power to get maximum profit out of mining.

Node operator and miners are responsible for stability of bitcoin network, it will be alive until there will be node operators and miners. No any government can shut down all nodes/mining facility around the world at the same time that's why nobody can stop bitcoin or kill bitcoin network.

You can never kill bitcoin. This is continuously going up and never expect that it will go down as it is already introduced and used all around the world.

If one or a group say that bitcoin can be killed, well try it first and I will believe him/her or them

Why did you asking how to kill the bitcoin? We can earn money here in bitcoin, do you want to kill this? I don't know how to kill the bitcoin or crypto because im not a veterans here in bitcoin. So I don't know how to kill bitcoin, but I think the government can kill the bitcoin because many people are veterans about computer. The other countries against bitcoin so I think they disappear it or kill it.

If nothing is done to correct the code, bitcoin will die by itself.

Now with less than 1% of the population using it it is more and more expensive to use and it takes more and more time to complete transactions.

Imagine if 5% of the population start using it... its going to be more expensive than wire transfer and its also going to take more time than a wire transfer so people will stop using it, the value will decrease and nobody will be interested to mine it anymore.

No miner = no more bitcoin.

Imagine some communities have an Indestructible large Water Tank with 8 Taps around it & each tap has a large group of people fetching water from it,  making a total of 8 groups of people depending on the water through 8 taps. What do you think will happen if a tyrant on one of the groups decides to lock his group's tap to prevent his group's members from depending on the tap?
My guess:   water pressure in the tank will increase and more water will flow to other 7 groups and the water will most likely last longer.
Now you see why a tyrant wouldn't find it wise to lock up his group's tank. Locking your tank won't stop the tank from feeding other groups. It is a dumb idea. His group members could join other groups or even buy their on tap & find ways to secretly connect it without the tyrant knowing.

If nothing is done to correct the code, bitcoin will die by itself.

A lot is being done, even though the pace of progress is frustratiing to say the least.

Imagine if 5% of the population start using it... its going to be more expensive than wire transfer and its also going to take more time than a wire transfer so people will stop using it, the value will decrease and nobody will be interested to mine it anymore.

With the advancements coming up with LN and Atomic Swaps the network will scale. Off-chain transactions will be common and it will be possible to directly exchange altcoins for Bitcoin on-chain.

only three nodes...ok well, but how many transaction can them handle? How much until the network will work so slow to seem blocked?

Exactly the same number of transactions as it does now.

No miner = no more bitcoin.

With fewer miners, the difficulty decreases resulting in exactly the same number of blocks being produced at the same rate and with the same capacity for transactions. As long as Bitcoin has any value at all then it will attract enough miners just like it did when it was worth fractions of a cent and a handful of people mined it with CPUs.

A blockchain is pretty much indestructible for that reason.

Miners monitor the transactions, they confirm any incoming transaction that is being made by the users. And the transaction being made is saved in the blockchain. I don't know why China banned mining but it is impossible that there will be only 10 or less than 10 transactions that will happen every day because there are a lot of bitcoin users that are using this bitcoin.

Last week we had a pretty good look at how we can kill BTC. You have to do hardfork to drain hash power and slow legacy chain. I don't know why the retarget of bitcoin legacy take 1440 block (15days) at nomal speed. If you cut in 5 the hash power you have to wait 75 days to retarget. Why don't change that ?

If nothing is done to correct the code, bitcoin will die by itself.

A lot is being done, even though the pace of progress is frustratiing to say the least

That's the whole point

Now with less than 1% of the population using it it is more and more expensive to use and it takes more and more time to complete transactions.

Imagine if 5% of the population start using it... its going to be more expensive than wire transfer and its also going to take more time than a wire transfer so people will stop using it, the value will decrease and nobody will be interested to mine it anymore.

With the advancements coming up with LN and Atomic Swaps the network will scale. Off-chain transactions will be common and it will be possible to directly exchange altcoins for Bitcoin on-chain

And how long should we wait?

Bitcoin seems to be terribly lagging behind, and its insane price seems to be playing a dirty trick on it. Its price is so high while the competition so low (at least, until Bitcoin Cash emerged) that no one is going to do anything till it's "too late to cry". Segwit has been in the works for a year and a half, and I guess LN has been for as long. Litecoin already has both activated as well as a few successful attempts at atomic swaps with other currencies. Where is Bitcoin in this picture?

Where is Bitcoin in this picture?

I hear you, I'm as frustrated as anyone else, but as always I'm an optimist. I think we could actually have some significant progress in the next 6-12 months. I'm highly disappointed with Core for failing to make Segwit transactions available, but then I see Electrum coming out with native Segwit using bech32 addresses. If Core won't do it then others will and this being Bitcoin everyone is free to use what they want.

You really need to do some research and find out how Bitcoin works. For someone with a 2013 Hero account, I'm very surprised you don't know the basics. The difficulty of finding a block is calculated to always keep block generation constant at 6 blocks per hour. If there is less hashpower on the network then difficulty will be reduced and the same number of blocks will be found. That is just the opposite of what happens everytime miners add more hashpower, the difficulty goes up and the same number of blocks are found.

it's simple. Me, and other people, are talking about the period BEFORE the new network difficulty. Period that can be very long.

Infact in my previous post, i've wrote "network seems blocked"", not "is blocked".

Maybe my english is not very well, but if i can't explain my self clear, there is no need to make accusation.

This is really bad.

Probably because China is not that stupid enough to do something which can just be worthless. With the business of mining, the government is sure that this is not something beyond their control and they feel that their economy and political stability is not being threatened by it so there is no point in banning the said economic activity.

Mining is is a good business and can somehow help a country's economy because eventually income in mining will be converted to the dollar which can enter the country as forex. And yes even if China will stop all the Bitcoin mining in its entire jurisdiction, it has no power to influence those located in other countries. China here is at least very realistic.

Though I don't love China (but love using many China-made products just like the rest of the world). Smile.

It is impossible to kill bitcoin because bitcoin is not controllable by any person or country and if any one want to try this then i think he can just waste his time just like we can see the example of china. They have tried to banned bitcoin but bitcoin will have no affect after banning bitcoin.

I don't know why you are trying to kill bitcoin.it has already tried by lots of bankers and governments, but they all failed.Bitcoin mining is not only done in china. Its carried out all over the world. So,china could not stop bitcoin by just banning mining. Now,bitcoin price is also very high which is given as a block reward to miners and so miners would not want to miss it.There are still 5 million more bitcoins to be mined. So,even if people start to hold their bitcoins, still there would be newbies entering the market and buying bitcoins and so mines would always have their job until the last block gets mined.

Bitcoin can't be killed by an entity or a single party. That'd mean putting all nodes out of  work remotely or physically in some way. There is no way for someone to kill all usage of something as decentralized as Bitcoin. Doing so would require cooperation of myriads of worldwide organizations and would require crippling basic internet functions. So long as bitcoin's netword lives on with more than a single user, it also lives on.

Haters and competitors wanted to see Bitcoin die or go down.  They definitely wanted to outperform Bitcoin in the market to take over its seat.  But the problem is Bitcoin was created to run by every individual that believes in it.  So even if the government intend to kill Bitcoin as long as there are some people who mine and set up a node for it, it will continue to live.  Just look how torrent files are being distributed even though government are actively shutting these torrent sites down.

Killing Bitcoin? It's not that easy although there are some who would like this to happen. So many times I've heard that banks and governments are the worst enemy of Bitcoin and that they are trying to destroy it but that is actualy not true at all. The worst enemy of Bitcoin is Bitcoin community itself and too much greed and different interests it has accumulated so the worst damage to Bitcoin could be done from inside.

It is quite original to search how to kill bitcoin on such forum!

The most simple way to kill bitcoin that comes to my mind is, of course, a complete stop of Internet and all related technologies. A worldwide shutdown. No electricty, no bitcoin.

That is quite easy and quite useless as an answer at the same time  ;D

Actually, the most effective way I can think about in order to kill bitcoin, would be a worldwide legal arrangement settling mining and transfer illegal. Bitcoin would still exist, but no new would be created and people owning it would be completely unable to use it.

However, governments are completely unable to find a sustainable agreement that all countries agree to and stick to. So regarding such a fast-changing technology, I think we have nothing to fear!

Plus, they do not especially care I guess.

In order to truly destroy Bitcoin an attacker would have to destroy every copy of the Bitcoin blockchain. With tens of thousands of copies of the Bitcoin blockchain stored across the global many believe the only way to do this is global nuclear war.  >:( >:( While the Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP) and subsequent fireball would wipe many hard drives clean there are undoubtedly a number of copies of the blockchain stored in Faraday Cages and safes that would be protected from the EMP.  :o ;D ;D ;D
So its means it is not possible to Kill Bitcoin....

They are dependent on Bitcoin. Those who want to kill Bitcoin, I think they have mental problems. Because nobody wants to kill such a good thing.

Bitcoin can be be possibly killed but it has more chances of being killed due to an external factor rather internally. External factors are threats that Bitcoin or any users of it cannot be avoided at one external factor I see killing Bitcoin is our world government where all of the nations unite to stop and ban all the related websites to Bitcoin and also the wallet providers for it, with that kind of move Bitcoin will be valueless.

Exactly the same number of transactions as it does now.
...

how is it possible? Only 3 miners will mean a lot less block, and less block will be less transactions. How can be no difference?

You really need to do some research and find out how Bitcoin works. For someone with a 2013 Hero account, I'm very surprised you don't know the basics. The difficulty of finding a block is calculated to always keep block generation constant at 6 blocks per hour. If there is less hashpower on the network then difficulty will be reduced and the same number of blocks will be found. That is just the opposite of what happens everytime miners add more hashpower, the difficulty goes up and the same number of blocks are found.

Hihi, seems like you're wrong about him, his English was bad even in 2014, and that makes things even worse when taking into consideration he hasn't spent at least one hour to understand how bitcoin works in 3 damn years.

Nobody can ever kill Bitcoin. I heard that many tried to kill Bitcoin but they could not.

Never heard of somebody trying to kill bitcoin, can you give an example?

Bitcoin can be killed by the one who created it or bitcoin can be killed if every countries government control bitcoin or if they change the form of method from decentralized to centralized mode.

No it can't. Satoshi holds no special powers nor does he have a "self destruct" button available.

Actually, the most effective way I can think about in order to kill bitcoin, would be a worldwide legal arrangement settling mining and transfer illegal. Bitcoin would still exist, but no new would be created and people owning it would be completely unable to use it.

No, that's not the way to kill bitcoin, it's just a way of stopping it temporarily.
Once internet is up again bitcoin will revive.
And if the "evil government" wants to keep internet down forever we could easily find a solution to transmit data in another way.
Decentralized network model for example.

Banning centralized services though the web wouldn't exactly have much of an effect on bitcoin's function. Perhaps some use cases would be impared but still people could download bircoin wallets through the TOR network where censorship is as hard as tracking down physical servers.

What's the need to kill bitcoin, even if the entire people who at present using bitcoin stops it too bitcoin won't get affected. Because this keeps it circulation through some other means. It can be of through altcoins or through gambling or through illegal transactions usage which won't go out of usage anytime.

Yes, Bitcoin has no danger from outside world like banks or govt. institutions etc.  The only thing which can damage bitcoin is the difference of opinion among the bitcoin community. Most of the times miners don't agree on going for a fork or not and half of the miners supporting one version of bitcoins and rest the others. This gives confusion in bitcoin as no one is clear on to support bitcoin or bitcoin cash for example. Such things if not settled now, can be very dangerous for bitcoin survival in future.

I don't think that there is an easier way to kill bitcoin but there are ways to kill bitcoin for example miners can kill bitcoin by just stoppage of miners to running their equipment to mine bitcoin in that way, transactions will not confirmed forever due no block mined unless the miners resumes the mining that's why miners role are very vital to bitcoin and also you can kill bitcoin  if another altcoin can overtake the position of bitcoin.

You can never kill bitcoin. This is continuously going up and never expect that it will go down as it is already introduced and used all around the world.

If one or a group say that bitcoin can be killed, well try it first and I will believe him/her or them
I agree with your opinion.
Although bitcoin has not been inaugurated by many countries but there are already many people who use it, so even though many people will not be able to kill bitcoin if it still gets more and more people use it every year.

 ???

I think they just did, but China removed from the existing bitcoin miners then it will
be a gain for miners based on other countries. If China is really serious on banning
Bitcoin why don't they order the closure of the ASIC manufacturer's plant on their country?

Bitcoin will die if all of the miners stop from mining or if transactions takes longer
before being confirmed that will result to people loosing their trust on the coin.

If one country bans it outright then somewhere else will try to capitalise on that. There will still be miners out there as long as there is a value attribute to bitcoin.

Uhhm. That would totally be stupid to be honest. Bitcoins are extremely expensive now that they cannot pour that much money to kill it off. Imagine, right now if they want to destroy say 1,000,000 (1mln) bitcoins that would cost them 8,000,000,000 (8 bln) dollars to do it. And that is assuming the prices will not go up if they buy that much on one go. That is a lot of money and for sure the banks will not waste it by burning just 1 mln bitcoins. I would assume they would need to at least buy 90% of all bitcoins to totally kill it off, but that means they need to buy 19 mln bitcoins. 19 x 8 bln dollars = 152 bln dollars, do you think even if they had that much money, they would waste it on just killing it?

Bitcoin is a standout amongst the most well-known crypto currency and utilized by the a large number of individuals the general population are pulled in towards Bitcoin on account of the high security framework which make Bitcoin sheltered and solid so it's practically difficult to execute Bitcoin and that is the reason that individuals need to have bitcoins.

This is certainly not the only option

They could just allow Bitcoin futures, and the Wall Street sharks could quickly short Bitcoin to death. Oh, wait, isn't that what they are going to do within the next couple of months anyway? If cash-settled futures are allowed, it will be a sort of piece of cake business to instigate panic selling and then keep Bitcoin spiraling down by shorting more and more until no one uses it. As to me, it is a more viable solution than stupidly buying up bitcoins. What do you guys think?

First: all stock exchanges must be banned. While this is very difficult. Exchange a lot. They are scattered all over the world. There, where one exchange disappears, three or four new ones appear. Exchange, as well as crypto-currencies, open up on increasing. Certainly not all of them will live to old age. But the fact that there are many of them is a fact.

Second: you need to ban people. Suppose you destroyed the stock exchanges. But here a different problem emerges. People can act without exchanges, they can exchange goods directly: Fiat for bitkoyn, bitkoyn for fiat, goods for bitkoyn, etc. It is impossible to control 8 billion people.

Third: the elimination of the Internet. This measure may also prove ineffective. First of all, a lot of people will protest. Secondly, the Internet can be made extra-state or independent of decisions from above. Thirdly, even if the Internet is liquidated, it is not a fact that you are eliminating cryptonyms. Cryptography does not need to have Internet access. People can create Bitcoin 2.0 out of the Internet.

Fourth: buying all the crypto currency. Also it will not work, because it is known that even one bitkoyna suffices for the functioning of the world housekeeper. Let them buy it. It still does not work. Bitcoin is not gold. It can not just be taken and taken away, or braked at the border.

Fifth: counterfeit bitcoins through the liquidation of miners. This option is possible, if someone has the power of the network in their hands. Since the network is decentralized, it will be very difficult to find all the miners. But this, in my opinion, is the most realistic option, because the miners become larger and now they are easier to find. But even if you eliminate all the miners, this will not solve the problem. The discoverers can simply release another bitcoin. Well, you banned digital "gold", and what has changed? People switched to digital "silver"

Nothing last forever, everything in this world can easily disappear in just blink of an eye. The main weakness of every business in this world is slowly losing their life blood. Like bitcoin, the demand of customers is the main life blood of the system. In order to survive they tend to become flexible to meet every customer’s satisfaction. Through this meeting the demand gives them additional lifespan to survive. When the customers gone, the existence of business will also gone. As long as all operation are in accordance of the law and their continuous operation gives them a positive outcome. Bitcoin is indestructible from its journey.

152 billions...let's see
Deutsche Bank derivatives book last year... 46 trillions.
How does that sound?

First: all stock exchanges must be banned. While this is very difficult. Exchange a lot. They are scattered all over the world. There, where one exchange disappears, three or four new ones appear. Exchange, as well as crypto-currencies, open up on increasing. Certainly not all of them will live to old age. But the fact that there are many of them is a fact.

1. It actually is doable. There are not that many exchanges out there and they need banks to run so it easy to cut them off.
2. Depends on what breaking the law would mean. Let's assume the punishment is mass execution in the stadiums , Chinese style..
Are you going to risk it?
3. No, kill the net and you kill the coin.
4. Nearly impossible. Even if there is one bitcoin left it can be slip with a soft fork into 21 trillion satoshi that would each be valued at 1$/
5. If indeed they managed that, then the trust is lost. And if some country would be really that bent on destroying it, they could either launch a 51% attack or a sibyl attack. At this scale where a whole country is involved that would cripple the network enough to make people abandon it.

Well why should we kill bitcoin ? Bitcoin is said to be so helpful and it is really a good thing that people may gain an extra income and they can have  a financial freedom and maybe people really know about it.that is why bitcoin today is really getting popular i really cant imagine life without bitcoin because bitcoin is really helpful and we can see that it makes our life a colorful life each day.
Yes but it comes with its own disadvantages but I think the OP doesn't necessarily wants to kill it just getting an opinion whether btc can be stopped. In my opinion yes BTC could die a slow death. But this would be possible only when there is no mining pool left to fight for. Which surely is not going to happen till 2140. or the second possibility is mass abandonment of bitcoin due to any reason. Well I don't see both of them happening in near future.

Only way to kill bitcoin is to stop miners from mining(i.e. they stop confirming transactions) hence the whole system will hang. If no transaction made then obviously there is no fun in holding Bitcoin. Bitcoin is just a programing code which hold no value if it can't be transfered.

Bitcoin can't be killed as long as the blockchain is running but bitcoin can be devalued overtime only if the bitcoin's current problems can't be fix in the future. Hardfork is the number one enemy of bitcoin if they can provide this feature where the today's bitcoin is suffering.

1. The faster and larger transaction capacity, as of today the current bitcoin transaction capacity is approximate 20 transactions per second, if the hardfork can make it faster like hundred or a thousand times faster then mass adaption is probable. Lightning network project try to fix this problem if implemented very well.
2. Lower transaction fee.
3. Lower difficulty hash rate and less power consumption to mine.
4. More business and consumer support.

if all these features of the Hardfork are present then we can say that bitcoin is a big threat to lost its value.

 ???

What are your trying to prove for searchingnthose things? You want to kill bitcoin? You can't do it because bitcoin is uncontrollable. I you doesn't want the features of bitcoin, then stop using it.

If there are no more Bitcoin miners, then perhaps Bitcoin transactions won't get processed anymore. However, I seriously doubt Bitcoin will die through that. That might just stop Bitcoin transactions for a while because I am certain that the team behind Bitcoin will do something about that immediately. If you want to kill Bitcoin, kill internet, kill electricity, let the all the governments ban and declare Bitcoin as illegal. So far these are the only way to effectively kill Bitcoin.

You'd have to deliberately sabotage the blockchain by controlling more than half of the hash power to make the people lose trust in it. But that is far from reality.

Well why'd you kill bitcoin if it is important to every user? The only thing that will kill bitcoin or bitcoin's "end" is banning them all over the world and even China left bitcoin/cryptoworld without knowing that China is one of the biggest contributors in the blockchain. We've made a lot of adjustments because of China left the blockchain. Though until now, bitcoin has a higher value like the earlier bitcoin. Even though a lot of contributors leave the blockchain because of some reasons, bitcoin will stay still  like what we did when China left we will do a lot of adjustments also.

what you need to know is that nobody wants to kill the bitcoin here. so I think the question is ridiculous
and for other questions I think to explain this will be very lengthy, and especially the need for broad reasoning. unlike what you think, take your time to learn about bitcoin and of course about blockchain.

We cannot trigger bitcoin now because of its rising value in the coin market. We cannot disallow it to rise up it's value but the more we patronize bitcoin, the more it will rise it's value.

I think, in order to kill bitcoins, it must in value first. Mayne a competitor can take over bitcoins position as the best cryptocurrency out there. Anothere would be a disaster in the blockchain, a massive computer virus or something. Bitcoin miners are the ones who bring in the supply, so they get killed off then the supply halts. No more addition to the supply and eventually bitcoin dies.

There is no way to kill Bitcoin, sorry to disappoint you? A lot of people think miner's have power over the network, but they don't. First of all, you mean hashers. Those are the ones using computer power to solve proof of work problems. Miners are the ones the validate and construct new blocks, and this requires a full node. Not an SPV node, a FULL node!

How to kill bitcoin? Real easy for the bankers. All they have to do is keep buying bitcoin each time it drops untill a few million are hoarded then wait till it reaches a certain price and dump it all on every exchange, market or anywhere that's possible. Then watch it's price decline immensively. Then buy back with that same money at the lowest price untill enough are accumulated again to repeat same scenario. They'll even make some money off of it. Within a year Bitcoin can get killed off this way.

Yes, it was the first time I heard about Lightening network and Atomic swap. After reading about it, it does look promising, I hope the community will agree on that one because something really needs to be done.

Thanks to TheQuin for that information :)

It is impossible to kill bitcoin because bitcoin is not controllable by any person or country and if any one want to try this then i think he can just waste his time just like we can see the example of china. They have tried to banned bitcoin but bitcoin will have no affect after banning bitcoin.
Bitcoin was based on a stage without national limits. If you want to kill bitcoin, it will be an impossible task. Thus, it will keep on existing. If no one is mining anymore, which is unlikely for now, you will actually destroy the bitcoin. Even if it is still worth something, you won't be able to exchange it, so it is like destroying it.Also governments can destroy bitcoin but it's not possible due to the popularity and power of the bitcoin.

The big question is that is it possible to KILL BITCOIN?

For we all know bitcoin is a kind which is unregulated by global virtual currency not backed up by anything stabilized e.g market or the government that's why the price can even drop to half overnight making the currency very risky.

Despite of complications in bitcoin merchants even pursue this online currency , so is it possible to stop bitcoin? maybe not. As long as people keeps on advertising and supporting it will keep on .

Actually bitcoin ban also will kill bitcoin,if some country banned the bitcoin then buying and selling bitcoin in that country is illegal so people don't want to get arrested by doing that. This will decrease the demand for bitcoin in that country so this will effect a slight price fall in bitcoin.Let us assume most of the countries in the world banned bitcoin at same time the demand for bitcoin will lean so the price also will fall.If all countries banned bitcoin that menas they killed bitcoin.

Escalating Electricity Costs

Again, Bitcoin secures its network by requiring miners to perform PoW. PoW provides security because it costs a great deal of electricity to confirm a transaction.

A report on Motherboard recently calculated that the cost to verify 1 Bitcoin transaction is “as much electricity as the daily consumption of 1.6 American Households.” The article also notes the Bitcoin network may consume up to 14 Gigawatts of electricity by 2020 with a low estimate of 0.5GW.

And since some of my friends are discussing money over it, my first thought on bitcoin is that it gives wealth to people, a currency that gives everyone of us an opportunity to become successful. Though people called it a scam, I don't believe them and just jump in, because I know it isn't. And now I'm so thankful to bitcoin because it teaches me a lot about everything, like, saving, investing, time management, etc. which is needed to become successful not only here in bitcoin but also in the real world.

Sorry that I may not be in the subject, but to destroy the BTC and not only it (all blockchaines),
we need to create special conditions when encryption on existing technology will become meaningless and useless.
It`s possible with the launch and development of a fundamentally new technology
For example quantum solutions.
Hyper-ultra-high-speed  :o technology of data transfer, information processing, analysis, forecasting, etc.
Then BTC and etc will dead I think.
Well, after then it will probably be actively develop telepathy, instant data transmission, a single information center ... but this is another story  ;)
P.S. sorry for my English, forgot almost all the grammar for several years. :-[ I hope I wrote it more or less clearly. Do not hit hard

I'm kind a bit late hearing this thing bitcoin.
But i think still you have good opportunity to invest money in bitcoin and get a good profit like other people who have already got a good profit from it. In fact bitcoin price will continue increasing and will also continue giving profit to people, you just need to simply hold your bitcoin. To me i personally have invested a good amount of asstes in bitcoin in previous days, when the price of bitcoin was trading below 5000$ and still i can get a good profit from it if i will sell it, but very honestly i am not going to sell my bitcoin but will continue holding it for  some more time.

 ???

Simple. How would China regulate what people do in their computers. And you cannot physically destroy information. I am not that knowledgeable in the subject but I know bitcoin itself can only be "destroyed" or gone if people don't like using it any more which would least likely to happen.

Killing Bitcoin is just like wasting your time. There are several forces that makes this currency grows or go down. The world has adopted this currency and asset and sure it will be worth it much more later. China and some countries never wanted cryptocurrency era but believe it, it has come to stay.

Plus, Bitcoin is based on trust too, so, as far as everyone believes in BTC, it won´t be "killed"

People nowadays see BTC as profit, they use it to multiply their earnings. They buy BTC using fiat currency and sell it to fiat. So my main question should be;
"How to stop people from gaining more profits using BTC?"

How do you buy BTC?, how will you sell it?- If the GOVERNMENT finds a way to stop these buyers and sellers, that is the way for you to KILL or STOP Bitcoin. But, the government is not taking any major action against it.

The main GOAL of Bitcoin is to stop printing more fiat currency or paper money that funds the war in this world, but people just buy Bitcoin to multiply their fiat currency.

I don't hate Bitcoin, I just want to know if the government has a way to stop it.

I also do not understand why there are people who want to kill bitcoin, live and let live. For some it is very useful, for others it has made them millionaires, there are some who do not even notice it because they are not even aware, it is simply the desire to get bitter

If yes; why didn't the government of China just ban cryptocurrency mining or am I just missing something out?

This assumes that China wants to ban Bitcoin, of which there's no evidence.

All currency exchange to and from the RMB currency is regulated in China. Transferring money into or out of the country is limited as well. (Supposedly to prevent capital flight - rich Chinese leaving the country - as well as prevent currency manipulation by other countries.)

People were buying bitcoin with RMB, sometimes transferring it out of the country, then exchanging it to USD. Effectively circumventing these regulations. China really had no choice but to close this loophole. Everyone in China saw this coming.

And that's all they did: close the loophole by restricting the exchange of RMB to and from Bitcoin. Bitcoin exchanges continue to operate legally in China. Exchanging between crypto currencies as well as foreign fiat currencies like USD is still possible and allowed. The limitations apply to RMB only.

All that aside, shutting down Chinese miners accomplishes nothing. Bitcoin will simply adjust its difficulty and continue to operate at the same rate with less miners. While more miners are always welcome from a decentralization point of view, they are not necessary or have any other noticeable effect on bitcoin's operation.

i don't think that people wants to kill bitcoin because bitcoin can give something benefits to them especially for making money on internet. if bitcoin don't have any benefits then bitcoin was disappeared from a long time ago but now more people realize that bitcoin can help their financial so they can reach their goals in their life. people can trying to earn money from bitcoin and they can collect from small piece until the amount become bigger so if they withdraw, they can make huge money.
According my mind there is no way to kill bitcoin because it gain the trust of the people in the whole world. People from the whole are making investment and trade in bitcoin which make bitcoin stronger. The security of the bitcoin is also very high nobody can steel you bitcoin, so this is now not possible to kill bitcoin.

I have a simple answer for you to make your questions irrelevant, not to be rude or something because your question still has a point, though.

To kill Bitcoin, you have to kill blockchain. :. No BlockChain = No Bitcoin .

Other methods to kill blockchain is like stopping the waves of the sea = useless. What China is doing is trying to suppress the usage of cryptos, because in reality, they have no way of killing it.

Bitcoin can be killed in several ways:
1. Will disconnect the Internet around the world
2. Satoshi Nakamoto will appear and will make sure that bitcoin no longer exists
3. All the major holders of bitcoins will start to sell their bitcoins
4. There will be a more promising and perfect digital currency, which will replace bitcoin.

Internet is part of our lives as a millenial and We cannot work properly because of lack of internet connection in our studies, work, etc. And i know that there’s no government will disable the internet in their country. But the transactions would take more time to complete with less miners operating, right?
So the transactions costs would be extremely high, making many people search for alternative currencies to execute their transactions.

This way Bitcoin would become useless, losing demand and price.
Another way to kill Bitcoin besides ending internet it's by "killing" the demand. Making Bitcoin looks uninteresting for many investors.

Cut off the miners. With out bitcoins going into the blockchain, then supplies won't last long since bitcoins will eventually get lost due to neglect. We only have a small amount of bitcoins left in our total supply and cutting of the main producers would eventually kill bitcoins.

I have never attempted to search or even think on how to end bitcoin after all bitcoin have proved to be very helpful to our life and society, but if you must think of it then you will fine it hard to kill bitcoin because bitcoin is decentralized at that it not under the control of any body or institution that can be kill and again bitcoin work with blockchain and mining carried out on the internet so the easiest way to end bitcoin is to turn of the internet if the world will be ready for that.

Difficult to completely kill it, but the connection between crypto exchanges and banks can be severed by governments which will essentially kill it for most mainstream users.   The key is the larger markets like China, US, Japan, UK, Germany.   If these key countries simply declare through legislation that banks can no longer hold fiat accounts for crypto exchanges, that will essentially cut most 'normal' people from changing fiat into crypto.    Most normal users aren't willing to fly abroad to open crypto accounts in countries that don't have those kind of laws.   Plenty of people will, but by and large, most people aren't willing to invest the time or capital to do so.

Try to study the concept of block chain algorithm and how miners are capable of every transactions that's being made on the exchangers. Even if china will ban miners on their area, cryptocurrency will still circulate because of the countless miners on other countries.

For bitcoin to become a currency in the future, I think it is very difficult, requiring developers to develop more applications that meet the needs of people, and everyone must know how to use computers, all Countries must have internet. and some countries want to destroy the bitcoin because they think bitcoin is a haven for criminals, doing money laundering.

Do you ever believe bitcoin will eventually die? For me, I think not as of now. Even when China did banned bitcoin it didn't kill it, because it is universal and privately run. When they banned bitcoin transactions then so is mining as well because miners earn bitcoin and probably the same, they cannot exchange the bitcoin. Even with this effort by some countries trying to stop bitcoin it still continues because some of the companies are now trying to accept it as a legal tender.

The beauty of Bitcoin, and blockchains in general, is their decentralized nature. Thousands of full nodes across the world store the immutable Bitcoin blockchain on their own local disk space. The current size of Bitcoin’s blockchain is about 155 GB allowing it to easily fit on the harddrive of any computer made in the last 4 years.

In order to truly destroy Bitcoin an attacker would have to destroy every copy of the Bitcoin blockchain. With tens of thousands of copies of the Bitcoin blockchain stored across the globe many believe the only way to do this is global nuclear war. While the Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP) and subsequent fireball would wipe many hard drives clean there are undoubtedly a number of copies of the blockchain stored in Faraday Cages and safes that would be protected from the EMP.

Essentially, in this scenario Bitcoin would be killed because, well, humanity has been killed. Any humans left would not have the electricity or internet to run Bitcoin and honestly would have much bigger problems than needing digital money.

In this scenario Bitcoin will be killed because:

- Man has been killed and every human being left behind will not have electricity or internet to run Bitcoin.
- Attacker must destroy every copy of Bitcoin block. with tens of thousands of copies of Bitcoin blocks are stored worldwide,
- Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP) and the next fireball will be issued a lot the hard drive is clean, no doubt there are a number of copies of the
stored blocks in Coop Faraday and a safe that will be protected from EMP.

No in practical it is not possible because btc came as a result of hard mathematical calculation of different computation algorithm. The only thing which can kill is the shutting down of internet in the world which seems not to be possible so same is the killing of btc which is not possible.

There is no way we can stop Bitcoin regardless of the depleting number of investors because it has been integrated in the system to survive -- being an independent variable so to speak. Remember it is a system than one has made, hence, there is no way we can ZERO its number irrespective of the global ban that has been commented earlier on in this thread.

You kill bitcoin by putting the fees up to $55 like they were six weeks ago and then hoping that today
everyone has forgot that you held a knife to their throats.

This was the sole reason why I jumped out when BTC feel back down to $18,000 and I keep laughing
when I read about buying on the dip.

I also took the time to look at the knight in white coming to save Bitcoin that they call the Lightning Network
and discovered it to be a system of banks that will be run by the miners since they have the Bitcoin to finance
channels and the hardware.

Many Germans knew in 1944 that the game was over but none of them dare shout too loud about it so I will
leave you with two educational links to see if you can spot the banking hubs that have been imposed upon us all
for yourselves.

I believe that bitcoin and cryptocurrency are decentralized which is the way it was made. Now, if one country refuses everything about bitcoin plus minning, another set would look for another means to start up again. It has been an eye opening moment and money has been tasted too.

Meanwhile, why would we be thinking about how to kill it?  Or don't we like the extras apart from our jobs? And, it helps us to save or store our money too.

Your title is very annoying and content in thread is hard to understand. Cannot think of a reason why someone will want to kill bitcoin unless you are the owner of a competing coin like Ethereum. If you do not bitcoins, simply do not invest in it. I do not think crypto is going to end now. We may see rankings being changed among the coins but some will exists for sure. It is also possible for some new coin to replace bitcoin from the leading position.

This is not a very complicated question. FIATS, gold, other form of currencies, and every coin that make up the cryptocurrencies including the BTC, is nothing more than the result of a global consensus in terms of what and where each of these things got the value they have from. The only difference would be when were each of these "items" introduced, because the older it got that global consensus from the time of its onset, it means it is already implanted in the thoughts of many generations, just like gold. For the BTC which is new, compared to the rest, it is also safe to say that part of its value comes from a global consensus, because if the world, as a whole deem it as something that has no value, then by that moment no one would be interested in it whatsoever. Who would buy something that no one is interested with because it has no value? So the answer to your question would be, the same thing that gave value to the btc which is global consensus. Imagine if the entire world decided to ban btc, with not a single country, nation, or government in the planet that acts as a sanctuary for btc, meaning, every nation comes to a global consensus that the btc is banned. By that time, and if it happens, the bitcoin would be illegal, and die out eventually. In the reality we are living in at the moment, the btc is both illegal and legal in a global context, and if we put specific nations under a microscope, you would be able to see that the global context comes from specific nations who either has the btc banned or not. It is as simple as that. The factors leading to a global consensus to ban the btc are the things you should ask. Like, a sudden collapse of the entire crypto realm, related to a cyber attack, wherein each coin holder losses all their coins. Something like that.

Take a look at how bitcoin have survived all of those times when it was bombarded with negative comments, banning, etc. which is causing it to drop on its knees and yet see how it stood up against challenges. So to kill it, maybe you have to kill all the users or go on hacking the entire network delete bitcoin records and maybe you can succeed. But why should we kill bitcoin by the way? Is a good invention not worth saving? I am a bitcoin lover and I don't want it destroyed, apologies I'm not into it.

Mining hardware's are responsible for every transaction in the block chain and that's the reason why sometimes there are slow transactions because you are paying an amount of cryptocurrency depending on the speed of transaction you prefer.

From this perspective, perhaps the surest way to kill Bitcoin would be to stop challenging it. However, in a world of fiercely competing currencies— fiat, altcoins, and precious metals—such destructive tranquility seems unlikely. Maybe you can spend huge sums of money to buy or rent a large number of mining machines, which exceeds 51% of the total power and create a 51% attack. This can tamper with block data and create double flowers, leading to a burst of trust in Bitcoin. But this is not realistic.

Well it's almost impossible to kill it at this point since the only thing that can stop it would be a collective government ban all over the world. And many governments are seeing the good about btc usage that's why regulations are already being studied to make it less dangerous for people.

Best way to kill bitcoins is to kill off exchange sites or prevent the country from selling bitcoin holders their bitcoins to prevent circulation within the country. With that said, I think it's nearly impossible for countries to fully filter this. Killing the blockchain may kill bitcoins but it's virtually impossible to destroy the blockchain.

You can never kill bitcoin. This is continuously going up and never expect that it will go down as it is already introduced and used all around the world.

If one or a group say that bitcoin can be killed, well try it first and I will believe him/her or them
Bitcoin has been here for almost a decade now. It has proven it's worth in many people's lives. I can't think of any logical reason why anybody would want to kill bitcoin. If is not helpful or relevant then it should not reach until this times. For me if someone really wants to kill bitcoin he has to destroy first the entire internet and destroy humanity's development in the process too.

 ???

The only way that I think that may end bitcoin is if the Internet will be gone and every computer and gadgets will be destroyed or broken. Because internet and gadgets is the medium of bitcoin for us to access and use it then if this 2 will be gone then I am sure that bitcoin will also be gone.

The Chinese government wont ban mining cause the mining market will just shift to another country and it will be the loss of the Chinese miners. Also mining is a big industry and banning it will result in loss of revenue to the government. Also the asic miners came later on and bitcoins were mined with the regular computers earlier on, so even if the asic miners leave there will be people mining bitcoin with their computers and bitcoin will be working just fine.

the reason a person wants to kill bitcoin is fear. Fear that bitcoin is a really strong creation. bitcoin is changing our lives and thousands of people don't have any problem with that. i am pretty sure banks are the only ones who would really like to kill all the crypto. because they are greedy. there will always be people who will never stop mining, and i am thankful to them. with bitcoin we can free ourselves from slavery, become decentralized, become more or less independent. i feel very positive about crypto, cause lots of people got chances to live much better lives than they used to.

Bitcoin cannot be killed because there are more people who are interested on investing more than removing it, there are people out there who really wants to earn cryptocurrency and the only hinder is the government who keep on banning bitcoins in our country.

There are a few methods which would cause Bitcoin to become unstable or not usable. As you pointed, miners are responsible for confirming transaction and thus, securing the whole network. If the vast majority of them (>50%) cooperated with each other, it could lead to manipulation in transactions. If many miners were shut down right after adjusting the difficulty, it would take a lot of time before mining would become easy again. Difficulty rises as the amount of hashrate grows. However, these actions can only slow down Bitcoin but not make it completely dead.

It's impossoble to kill bitcoin fully. Goverments can't control miners, but they can ban miners. Fortunatley, miners are all around the world, and it's unreal to ban them all. But there is one more thing, if one of the mining company would hold more than 51% of transactions, they can theoretically control this transactions and make changes in them. It can kill sense of bitcoin and blockchain.

I think the government can not ban mining companies but they can manage it and restrict it from commercial sites with limited trading volume. We depend on it, and no one knows the bitcoin rates held by the mining companies. Certainly they have the ability to suppress the price in the market and easily recognize the volatility later. Mtgox is the best example.

Break the internet. Bitcoin is decentralised and the network is basically its community of users. Any other forms of attacks would most likely be ineffective at shutting the network down completely. Unless you disrupt the primary way for Bitcoin nodes to communicate, you can't kill Bitcoin.

You could consider the scenario of a 51% attack. That isn't as valid since it won't kill Bitcoin, merely discourage people from using it.

Stop all mining and dump all bitcoin. Maybe that would kill bitcoin. If bitcoin mining stopped there will be no productivity anymore and if everyone one dump bitcoin and don't buy anymore there will be no demand anymore so bitcoin's value shrink until it becomes 0 value. But I think this is impossible to happen anyways.

Dev-less and eco friendly block chain. Supported a a strong community. Register marineco.in and here marineco.in/ico for ICO. Artificial intelligence to the blockchain. Nothing to lose by signing up.
Okay this is fine to hear about this new coin but I think we must stick to the main topic here. If such sort of advertisements getting started here, the quality of the discussion may be compromised. That's true, killing Bitcoin is impossible since these is a series of network which is transacted through nodes. Shutting it down is very difficult because of the programmes that is embedded in it which is decentralized and access to the network is very minimal.

They essentially killed it in china. If you put bitcoin is a scenario where it is no longer advantageous to use, you essentially killed it. Especially since china has its "great firewall"
Bitcoin needs to grow. It needs exchanges and more stores accepting it. If you stop it from growing you killed it.
Im using "kill" here loosely as what im talking about is stopping it from succeeding.

If you look at in a bigger picture, you could actually see that killing bitcoin can be done if a large or considerable number of people stop using it. Just like when it was banned by china and bv india the stock of cryptocurrency dropped drasticaly and it also upeneded any growth of cryptocurrency not just bitcoin by the banning of its borders. However, we can still keep it alive by the power of our influences and our drive and I think that is more than enough

If you really wanted to kill bitcoin then there would be two ways to do it most efficiently.
1) You would have to find a way to shut off electricity in the world so there would be no way to power our devices and gadgets so there will be no way to get to our bitcoins.
2) You would have to find a way to shut off internet in the world so there is no way for anyone to be online and there will be no way to access our bitcoins and carry out transactions.

In order to kill Bitcoin, you need:

1. Take an asteroid, about 100 miles wide. 70 miles would also work, but we need to make sure, right?
2. Throw it from Earth orbit into Otakama desert  (so that no people are hurt).
3. It'll kill Bitcoin completely. Probably.

2* Throwing it into Yellow Sea, for example, would probably kill Bitcoin Cash only, which is not the goal here.

The government can not control Bitcoin because its working currency is non-financial. However, with their powers governments can control and restrict the use of Bitcoin. For example, the government may force banks to stop providing services to cryptocurrency companies, or Banning commercial activities in this area. The more likely scenario is that countries will jointly set up a regulatory framework, administer the cryptocurrency market to collect taxes, and protect investors.

If we consider the issue globally, then we can recognize that no digital system has absolute protection. Disadvantages of digital systems can use hackers and hack these systems. The question is when it will be technically possible and whether there is a need for it. Now Bitcoin is considered useful, because people can get extra income, and they can have financial freedom.

1. Tell the people especially the whales to stop on investing, trading and using it. You can spread FUDs or fake news to do this but you will just be found out eventually.

2. Recommend the governments of the world to ban Bitcoin in their respective countries though I don't think they will be going to accept that.

3. The last one and I think this will be the most effective and easiest of them all, just take down the most popular digital currency exchangers sites online. Good luck with that though.

It only requires 3 Bitcoin nodes to keep it running. The way to kill it is eradicate the whole world. Simple. People have had made backups of the blockchain. So say the world got nuked and the at least 3 computers still has the latest block, Bitcoin will revive. Bitcoin really can't be killed unless Earth explodes.

If all the governments joined together in order to completely eradicate bitcoin from its core then there might be a tiny possibility that bitcoin might actually die. If all the governments take that step and make worldwide laws for bitcoin and stop all it's activities like trading, exchanging and mining then it would still take a long time to kill bitcoin as people would still secretly use it and as bitcoins transactions are anonymous it would be pretty difficult to completely stop it. But bitcoin surely will completely die if the community member starts backing up and lose faith in bitcoin and start isolating it, maybe then will the countdown begin.

People tout quantum computing as a BTC killer but I disagree because its not like q computing will pop up out of the blue, this is a world changing technology that we will know is coming before it arrives. I think the bribery of miners by governments is the biggest danger. At the end of the day it was a currency that was the final piece to the puzzle when it come to bitcoin, basically money so what is stopping other entities offering more money to miners and where is the past evidence that miners are loyal to bitcoin? I think the majority are loyal to the $$$$$$$

Why would you even want to kill bitcoin in the first place? Bitcoin is not something you can slaughter. Even stopping bitcoin is highly impossible not to speak of killing it.

You can never kill bitcoin. This is continuously going up and never expect that it will go down as it is already introduced and used all around the world.

If one or a group say that bitcoin can be killed, well try it first and I will believe him/her or them

I agree, bitcoin is not something that can just be killed or stopped, specially not now on this point. Bitcoin's existence is the people itself and since it is processed throughout the net, its data and system will continue to work as long as these factors exist.

LoL..
or may be the OP wants to compete Mr Satoshi to test his ability.  ;D
If someone wants to kill bitcoin, he needs to destroy blockchain and create another technology which is much better than blockchain. not only better as technology, but also better solution that what blockchain (bitcoin) has offered to the world, especially the chance to the poor to build up their lives. better than blockchain means better transparency and freedom for economic of the world to poor people.

 ???

I think there's no way to kill bitcoin because it is secured. Everyone didn't let that happen because we knows that we can get benefits in this. There are so many people that are now rich because of it. Even if they are so many people want to destroy it they can't do that because there are so many process before you can do it.

We cannot stop this bitcoin forum or campaign, unless members or people with this campaign may stop. As i read some comments to others that it can help, can have extra income or we can invest etc; it is also a good source for our economy because it helps the way of living. Although I never experience the earnings of the bitcoin, but I positively  or bear in my mind that it could help a lot.

A good opinion and I agree with your opinion about bitcoin.
It is actually very difficult to kill bitcoin if there are still many people who follow bitcoin because bitcoin is very beneficial for the people who follow it and also more and more people are activating and more interested in bitcoin so I think it's hard to kill this bitcoin.
