Title: What "Known Celebrity" would be down with Bitcoin? Seriously
Post by: BitcoinPorn on July 03, 2011, 02:04:30 AM
They would have to be geek.  They would have to like their fans.  I think these are the only two requirements for this question.

The reason why is this part of Youtipit (http://youtipit.org)
Quote
Want to tip someone who is not on Youtipit?

You can create a tipit for a person you think should receive tips but is not a member of Youtipit yet. Its easy, just create an Escrow tipit (https://secure.youtipit.org/faq#whatisescrowtipit) for them. All you need is thier Facebook profile URL and some bitcoins in your Youtipit account to tip them with. Once the tipit is created other people will be able to tip them and the person can claim the tipit at any time by registering with thier facebook account.

To create an Escrow tipit for a facebook member click here (https://secure.youtipit.org/EscrowTipit/Create)

First, I want to point out how Youtipit does not capitalize the word facebook all the time, I like that :p  I really could see a geeky enough person who enjoys their fans, even though they might or might not have tried Bitcoin otherwise, would at the least take this donation, which will naturally mean if they themselves do not check into things, their assistant will.   Also, this would mean.. they are in!

Ashton Kutcher is the only person I can think of that fits this description perfectly, but other than that, who could this idea really work for?  Would you donate to try and make that happen?   You would be putting your hard earned Coin, giving it to somebody who probably has more money than all of us, literally paying them to check out this shit going on.

Damn, first reply is actually a good one.   Is Penn not big into some of the ideals that go behind some positives of Bitcoin from that libertarian perspective.   The more I think of that, really really good suggestion imo.

Or the original Penn, Mr. Sean. He'd be a good endorsement.

I think someone not geeky--some type of professional should endorse them....Bernie Madoff maybe?

They change their logo often to match certain special events. We should establish a bitcoin day and have a bunch of websites put up pictures of bitcoins. April 20th is good for me.

Take anyone from there who is not too old or too stupid to be able to understand Bitcoin and you have a good candidate.

Perhaps we should get Notch onboard with this? He has a wide audience, and if the video game industry starts accepting it, others may follow. An indie dev would be ideal, because they'd have the fewest contracts getting in the way.

Randall Munroe (xkcd.com).  One of my earliest bitcoin-related thoughts was that he is going to make a fortune as soon as he puts up a bitcoin receiving address.

[Edit: looks like Randall is way ahead of me: http://xkcd.com/bitcoin/ (http://xkcd.com/bitcoin/) -- too bad]

Wil Wheaton (Westley from ST:TNG).  Respected (yes, really), huge geek fanboy following (e.g. on Twitter).

Joss Whedon (creator of Firefly, Buffy The Vampire Slayer, others).  If he puts bitcoin into one of his stories, the fight is over.  Game, set, match.

We should send them letters...  Lots of letters.

Reviving a very old thread here but this post isn't really worth starting a new one.

Dwolla just got a nice boost, showing up in Google Trends (below) thanks to the revelation that Ashton Kutcher was an investor.

http://i.imgur.com/BQheG.png (http://www.google.com/trends/?q=bitcoin,+dwolla&ctab=0&geo=all&date=mtd&sort=0)

Keep in mind that endorsements are one thing, active support is another. We need someone that sells stuff, so let's keep it to musicians, software, and possibly some other stuff.

Right. The celebrity's job is doing what celebrities do ... not pumping their own investments.

Otherwise, the restaurant chains at which Kutcher is the main celebrity investor would be switching over to Dwolla ...
  http://www.dolcegroup.com/new-files/website-files/Dolce_Group_-_main/gift_cards.html (http://www.dolcegroup.com/new-files/website-files/Dolce_Group_-_main/gift_cards.html)  <-- PayPal only!

But the free press certainly didn't hurt Dwolla.

Just think if instead of it being the Canadian Mint issuing MintChips it was Oprah issuing OWNCoins (same technology, different brand).

Or how about a simple celebrity-owned coin relay ..  you send 1.1 BTC and get back 1.0 BTC from Bieber!   Think of it as like getting an autograph.
