Block 3000 on - Random reward, between 10 and 50

45 Second target block time
Transactions require 3 confirmations
Difficulty adjusts every 150 blocks

Client V7.3 fix instructions
Navigate to %appdata%\roaming\gil
- Delete peers.dat
- Open gil.conf
- Ensure addnode=207.12.89.80 is the ONLY node listed. Delete any others.
- Add the line banscore=1
- Save and close gil.conf
- Launch new client, and let it sync to the network (This may take a few minutes)
- Good to go.

A plan for the future, is to have an online store, where you can trade you GIL for FF XIV items and gold.

Have to head out for about an hour. Bounty thread and give away threads, will be created when I get back.
Also, looking for interested people to join the development team.
Community involvment is highly encouraged. Have ideas to make GIL better, I'd love to hear them.

Pathetic.

A large chunk will go to bounties and giveaways and future development. A small portion, will go to me. I had to use my own BTC, to pay for a VPS to have a fast, dedicated node. I needed someone to help compile the windows QT, because it wasn't working for me, and I couldn't figure it out. Came out of my pocket. I also spent over 2 weeks of my spare time, working on it, while also working my 60 hour a week job. So yeah, I'm taking a salary.

Anyone who has a major issue with a less than 1% premine, has never created an alt coin, and has no idea, the amount of work, that goes into it.

What is with shitclone posts saying how many confirmations are required? You don't get to decide this, only the person receiving a transaction.

With that said, as a total FF nerd I appreciate the name. ;)

3 confirmations, until they are spendable in your wallet client. a default, if you will. Obviously any pool or exchange, can manipulate this at their discretion.

Yes, the difficulty always rises when hashing power increases, but it should have been set higher to begin with.

Yes, the difficulty always rises when hashing power increases, but it should have been set higher to begin with.

Hard to test mine a coin, when the diff is high. and, would have taken too long to mine genesis block, ect. This was the fairest way to do it. Block reward is 0, until block 1000, noone had the opportunity to rape it, at 0 diff

Full block rewards don't start until block 3000, and diff is rising over quickly. Please read the whole post, before commenting. Thanks.

Haven't hit 1000 blocks yet, and diff has hit 0.06

It might be today, it might be next week, but at some point all the coins you are right now mining will become obsolete. Because the coin will stop producing coins at ~180,000,000. The only uncertainty, is how long it will take to reach 180,000,000 coins, do to the random block rewards. The client generates a random number, for each block, then if it falls within a range of certain numbers, that determines the block reward, for that block.

The starting blocks, of 1, 2 ,3, were merely to give people time to setup and to allow difficulty to increase, preventing any 1 person, from insta mining thousands of coins, while everyone else recieved nothing but orphans, and, its working, exactly as intended. You can't please everyone.

There are no super-blocks, the block reward was designed this way, to add variety, and make the coin fun to mine. Everyone has equal opportunity here, it's not favoring anyone.

I think its a cool concept i'm an avid final fantasy MMO player and to be honest if it wasen't for final fantasy 11 I dont think i would of ever heard about bitcoin until much later. I like the idea about creating a type of trading system for when 14 is live.

This coin is poison...

Every time anyone tries to make a new spamcoin, they always point to other spamcoins that had a bigger premine or a worse launch. The flaw of this logic is that they all are trash. if your poop is bigger than my poop, I can say that my poop has less poop then your poop.

Having any coins premined is a scam, it leads to the idea that one person is more impotant than the rest when it comes to money. Why is it your authority to make bounties for an Open-source monetary system? If it's a novel coin, other people will make exchanges and whatnot to make the coins they have worth more. You literally give no reason to mine this coin since everyone has nothing compared to your assets. although you don't technically have a 99% share in hashpower, you have a 99% stake in the money itself. What do you think would happen if one person owned 99% of all the gold in the world?

In all fairness, he was doing large giveaways on cryptsy yesterday, so from what I am seeing so far that premine is going out to the community.  And anyway, the premine is only .0016% of the total coins to be produced.  Plus, it took over a day to get to full rewards, so he did what he could to prevent instamining.  Say what you want about this coin, but there are far, far worse offenders in the premine/instamine department.

I premised a tiny bit, I used it to get a pool up within hours of release. I prevented anyon. Because this is supposed to be a currency, not a business. one really can say you premised. and by no insta-mining by anyone, you are obviously are not including yourself from mining 300,000. The vast majority of coins is held by one miner. The whole point of mining is to give work for coins. What does giving them away do except hype your scam?

As long as the coins are legitimately used for giveaways, bounties, and the like to get a coin going, I see no problem in a reasonable premine.  I don't expect a dev to spend his free time designing, programming, and promoting their coin and on top of it sink his own BTC into it to promote it.  Honestly, I don't even mind a dev premining and holding a reasonable amount of coins (what a reasonable amount is is up for debate though, and yes, I screwed up the math, it is a .16% premine) for himself if that means he is going to invest his time and energy into making the coin successful.  Face it, if a dev stands to gain from the creation of his coin, we will get better and more innovative coins.  This is simple free-market capitalism at play, same reason phizer invests billions into new and better pharmaceuticals, same reason GM invests billions into creating safer and more efficient cars, they sure as shit aren't doing it out of the kindness of their hearts.  So why should a coin dev be looked at any differently?  If we as a community decide a dev isn't allowed to profit off his creation, we will continue to be stuck with shitty copy-paste scrypt coins.

The whole point of bitcoin is an opensource money. This coin is literally a scrypt clone anyway so I have no idea why you're defending it. This coin takes no time to make and there are better ways to earn off of it than blatantly giving yourself a bajillion coins. there was this guy named satoshi nakamoto who made something really innovative and for a while, he was one of only a few people mining. For almost a year and a half his coins were practically worthless, but the incentive to change currency as a whole by improving bitcoin was enough to get bitcoins value and noticeabilitly up, inadvertently making him rich.
Saying GIL isn't a pump and dump and a way to just make money contradicts the fact it was made to make the dev money as a business endeavor. The fact he gave himself 300,000 coins makes this exceedingly obvious, especially when he picks and chooses who he gives his "bounty" coins to. To be honest, even if there wasn't a premine, it's worthless because there's no reason to choose this over any other coin.

This is a scam, plain and simple.

As long as the coins are legitimately used for giveaways, bounties, and the like to get a coin going, I see no problem in a reasonable premine.  I don't expect a dev to spend his free time designing, programming, and promoting their coin and on top of it sink his own BTC into it to promote it.  Honestly, I don't even mind a dev premining and holding a reasonable amount of coins (what a reasonable amount is is up for debate though, and yes, I screwed up the math, it is a .16% premine) for himself if that means he is going to invest his time and energy into making the coin successful.  Face it, if a dev stands to gain from the creation of his coin, we will get better and more innovative coins.  This is simple free-market capitalism at play, same reason phizer invests billions into new and better pharmaceuticals, same reason GM invests billions into creating safer and more efficient cars, they sure as shit aren't doing it out of the kindness of their hearts.  So why should a coin dev be looked at any differently?  If we as a community decide a dev isn't allowed to profit off his creation, we will continue to be stuck with shitty copy-paste scrypt coins.

I paid, out of my own pocket, to have the windows client compiled for me, because I couldn't get it to compile. I paid a bounty of 20K, to have a pool setup, within hours of release. The pool was up and ready, before the block reward had increased to 1. Most coins release, and after a couple hours, you see threads, with people who have thousands of coins to sell. Noone had thousands of GIL. Block reward was 2, until a couple hours ago.
GIL is fast, 45 secoond block times, 3 confirmations. Difficulty adjusts both up and down, very quickly. It's very secure. The block reward right now, is random, between 10 and 50. That's a whole lot of randomness, which should help prevent it being attacked. I have a theory here. Lets say, someone wanted to launch a 51% attack, on GIL...So, they create  their own offline version of the blockchain. Now, GIL's blockchain, is completely impossible to duplicate, due to the random block rewards. The attacker brings their version of the blockchain online, the network sees it, and, see's that the block rewards for their version, is completely different than what the other 50 clients on the network, are showing. So, in theory, and this is just a theory, mind you, the network rejects their version, and no fork is created.
Now, I created GIL, with a specific goal and purpose in mind. I clearly outlined this, and, asked for volunteers, and support from the community, to join my team, and make this happen. So far, I have had interest from 1 person, and the rest of this community, has done but bash it.
So, on that note, if you have an issue with the premine, fine, what ever, don't mine it. The other 35 MH/s that is pointed at it, please, continue to mine it, and have fun :)

I'm not defending the coin, there is a great chance it is going nowhere just like most of these coins.  Just saying that in comparison to other premines/instamines it is nothing to bitch about.  Remind me again just how many LTC were insta-mined in the first few days of launch?

Yes, Satoshi mined his coin from the start when practically no one in the world knew about them or gave a shit about them.  So he basically gave himself a fuckton of coins when BTC was still incubating.  And this is effectively different from a premine........how?

These days a dev doesn't have that luxury when every new coin announced immediately has 300 MHs thrown at it.  Unless the dev also owns a whole lot of 7950's or ASICs, he can't even compete with the horde of miners.

Also, these days no one has the time to mine for years before a coin reaps a reward, we have expensive ASICs and GPUs to pay for.  I'm sure it didn't set Satoshi back much dough to CPU mine 100 BTC a day.

Spout all the idealistic rhetoric you want, but fact of the matter is 95% of the crypto community doesn't give a shit about any of these coins.  All they care about is making more BTC and at the end of the day, more fiat because we can't pay our mortgage with BTC or sheets of LSD ordered off SR.

Fact is crypto's are business these days, if no one ever started buying BTC with USD, Satoshi would still be CPU mining to this day and hoping the world would wise up to his wonderful creation.

BTC rise to $266 was the best and worst thing that ever happened to it.  Now it is all about the money.  If we actually used BTC as Satoshi envisioned, we wouldn't even trade them for fiat, we would have no need for fiat anymore!  Yet we all still have clarkmoody loaded up 24/7 so we can obsessively monitor it's worth in filthy dirty fiat.

And I love sunny king and PPC and XPM, he is one of the true innovators in the community, but look at the debacle with the XPM client shortly after launch.  It was terribly optimized, and resulted in a ridiculous amount of client mods thrown together by the community.  It was anything but a smooth launch.

Do you think if devs were properly compensated for their labor, that we would issues such as this?  A high quality coin painstakingly developed for a long time by talented devs would have, at launch, innovative features, a flawless client, services and shops accepting the coin, mining pools, block explorer, official websites localized for all major countries and languages, and I'm sure many other things that I lack the creativity to even think up.

Instead, we just get devs who view their coin as at best a hobby to work on in their spare time, clients just slapped up on a forum and we basically just mine and pray we aren't wasting our time.

Do you think if devs were properly compensated for their labor, that we would issues such as this?  A high quality coin painstakingly developed for a long time by talented devs would have, at launch, innovative features, a flawless client, services and shops accepting the coin, mining pools, block explorer, official websites localized for all major countries and languages, and I'm sure many other things that I lack the creativity to even think up.

Instead, we just get devs who view their coin as at best a hobby to work on in their spare time, clients just slapped up on a forum and we basically just mine and pray we aren't wasting our time.

Um, I agree? My whole point is that all the altcoins are worthless, this one included.

We get this crap because it is a quick and simple throwaway scam, it is trivially easy to spawn new coins, but it does not really seem very likely that if we all jump on several new almost-identical scams per day the scam spawner will eventually scam enough total bitcoins out of us that at last he or she will sit down and painstakingly develop something useful by hiring talented devs etc.

On the contrary, what really happened in real life is, someone built an exchange, sold it off for capital, and has now been spending a long time painstakingly developing "Ripple". No scamcoins needed, just one real service that was really needed thus got a lot of users (MtGox, in case you don't know that is what I am referring to).

In all the history of ponzi schemes and pyramid schemes and tulip mania schemes and so on has any of the principals of such schemes actually used their ill-gotten gains to painstakingly develop something actually worthwhile with talented devs?

As long as the coins are legitimately used for giveaways, bounties, and the like to get a coin going, I see no problem in a reasonable premine.  I don't expect a dev to spend his free time designing, programming, and promoting their coin and on top of it sink his own BTC into it to promote it.  Honestly, I don't even mind a dev premining and holding a reasonable amount of coins (what a reasonable amount is is up for debate though, and yes, I screwed up the math, it is a .16% premine) for himself if that means he is going to invest his time and energy into making the coin successful.  Face it, if a dev stands to gain from the creation of his coin, we will get better and more innovative coins.  This is simple free-market capitalism at play, same reason phizer invests billions into new and better pharmaceuticals, same reason GM invests billions into creating safer and more efficient cars, they sure as shit aren't doing it out of the kindness of their hearts.  So why should a coin dev be looked at any differently?  If we as a community decide a dev isn't allowed to profit off his creation, we will continue to be stuck with shitty copy-paste scrypt coins.

I don't understand the arrogance of some in the crypto community.  "why can't we have a real innovative coin that I get to profit off of, but fuck the dev who spent his time and energy on it, if he profits a cent I will scream scam-coin, oh and I also expect him to sink his own BTC into it to promote it because pre-mine = scam coin"  Meanwhile the miners sit back and bitch and mine and dump and cash out.

The whole point of bitcoin is an opensource money. This coin is literally a scrypt clone anyway so I have no idea why you're defending it. This coin takes no time to make and there are better ways to earn off of it than blatantly giving yourself a bajillion coins. there was this guy named satoshi nakamoto who made something really innovative and for a while, he was one of only a few people mining. For almost a year and a half his coins were practically worthless, but the incentive to change currency as a whole by improving bitcoin was enough to get bitcoins value and noticeabilitly up, inadvertently making him rich.
Saying GIL isn't a pump and dump and a way to just make money contradicts the fact it was made to make the dev money as a business endeavor. The fact he gave himself 300,000 coins makes this exceedingly obvious, especially when he picks and chooses who he gives his "bounty" coins to. To be honest, even if there wasn't a premine, it's worthless because there's no reason to choose this over any other coin.

This is a scam, plain and simple.

BTC was premined to fuck, so, I guess BTC is a scam coin too.
I don't pick and choose. I go into Cryptsy, I shout, first GILL address, gets free GIL!!! and I send it to them.
I created this coin. It took a lot of work. I paid, out of my pocket, for a VPS to have a fast, dedicated node. I paid, out of my own pocket, to have the windows client compiled for me, because I couldn't get it to compile. I paid a bounty of 20K, to have a pool setup, within hours of release. The pool was up and ready, before the block reward had increased to 1. Most coins release, and after a couple hours, you see threads, with people who have thousands of coins to sell. Noone had thousands of GIL. Block reward was 2, until a couple hours ago.
GIL is fast, 45 secoond block times, 3 confirmations. Difficulty adjusts both up and down, very quickly. It's very secure. The block reward right now, is random, between 10 and 50. That's a whole lot of randomness, which should help prevent it being attacked. I have a theory here. Lets say, someone wanted to launch a 51% attack, on GIL...So, they create  their own offline version of the blockchain. Now, GIL's blockchain, is completely impossible to duplicate, due to the random block rewards. The attacker brings their version of the blockchain online, the network sees it, and, see's that the block rewards for their version, is completely different than what the other 50 clients on the network, are showing. So, in theory, and this is just a theory, mind you, the network rejects their version, and no fork is created.
Now, I created GIL, with a specific goal and purpose in mind. I clearly outlined this, and, asked for volunteers, and support from the community, to join my team, and make this happen. So far, I have had interest from 1 person, and the rest of this community, has done but bash it.
So, on that note, if you have an issue with the premine, fine, what ever, don't mine it. The other 35 MH/s that is pointed at it, please, continue to mine it, and have fun :)

I don't think you get how your own coin works...

Well that is a good way to split the chain.  What is the "fake chain" is really the good chain and used by 20 million nodes around the world.  It just happens your node has 21 connections, 20 to an attacker and 1 to the rest of the legit network.

Please understand that anytime your solution relies on "the network" you have already failed.  There is no xCoin network.  There is a network of INDEPENDENT nodes connected to other INDEPENDENT nodes which happen to be running compatible copies of the same protocol. 

Your nodes has no idea what copies of what blockchains are on other nodes.  Your node has no idea it knows about all the blocks or it knows about all the txs.  Your node doesn't even know how many other nodes exist.  It knows its direct peers and it maintains a list of possible nodes (obtained from other nodes) but it never conclusively knows how many nodes there are.

Maybe a little less spamming the next scamcoin of the week and a little more learning on how peer to peer networks work.  Just an idea.

I like to make to make things interesting so you'll need at least 83MHS to 51% it (11 m/hs already there plus my 72m/hs) once I add my 72 mh/s to the original chain.

Since you're going to 51% it I have a question, exactly what are you going to do with your own chain since there are no exchanges?

With 60+ mhs you'll be the only one on that fork since diff will skyrocket, in other words you'll just be playing with yourself LOL...

He's just doing it, because I hurt his feelings. I really don't get why my coin would be a target. Just last night, I spent 6K of my own MasterCoins, because my new client fucked up, and the pool got all foobar'd. I gave the operater 6K, to make sure everyone on the pool got paid...Sure sounds like a scam coin to me. I could have just said fuck it, cashed out my coins, and let it die. But, I didn't just flip a switch on my coins, and disappear. Why not target those kind of coins, instead of ones that I am actively trying to make something out of?

yup you need to forward port 64576 or 64575 (cant remember which one) in your router to your machine with the wallet on it.

I just brought very high on cryptsy :( .00008 , my thought was the was'nt enough coins as there was hardly any sell orders. I  got my ass handed to me. So to help Gilcoin, I have released the Mac Client built from the latest git branch

The client is getting some crosstalk from the LTC network. Your client is actually in sync, it just says it isn't. It's showing the 400K+ blocks from Litecoin. It's not actually hurting the integrity of the GIL blockchain, or anything. Just being annoying. I am working on a fix for it. If anyone would like to off a hand in fixing this, it would be greatly appreciated.

Having the same problem, its frozen at 726 blocks remaining atm,
I guess we'll need some more people to upgrade for it to confirm, will leave it on for a while

This coin has potential, really looking forward on seeing it accepted on more exchanges  ;D (Coins-e, possibly mtxNOW/bter/vircurex)

I know what my issue was - the randomness of the block size.  I just put it up with the lowest block size as the set size (i know it is random, but this way, those that know the coin will know how to adjust that :) )

difficulty is at ~0.20, seems its increasing slowly but steady  ;D

The funny thing is, in theory that would be 750% profitability right now.

I do get an average block size of ~32, but block generation takes way more time than it should according to calculations I did with https://www.litecoinpool.org/calc (https://www.litecoinpool.org/calc), so its not as profitable for me..
I'm hashing below 1 MH/s though, so that might factor into it

ARG I took a leap on since it was a small variance from the average and only did it after detailed analysis was given to me to show that not only the average but the mean was 3 (and there were minimal deviations away).  GIL is a much bigger variance and I can just see the screaming.  

If you can run an analysis against all mined blocks, show me the mean and media for the coins plus if the range is between 25 - 35 (within one standard deviation), I am happy to put it at 30 blocks.  Or if there is a way to programmatically get the block reward for the next block (and accurately reflect that), I can implement that function to update the block reward.

 Otherwise - I will remove it when I have a chance per your request.

ARG I took a leap on since it was a small variance from the average and only did it after detailed analysis was given to me to show that not only the average but the mean was 3 (and there were minimal deviations away).  GIL is a much bigger variance and I can just see the screaming.  

If you can run an analysis against all mined blocks, show me the mean and media for the coins plus if the range is between 25 - 35 (within one standard deviation), I am happy to put it at 30 blocks.  Or if there is a way to programmatically get the block reward for the next block (and accurately reflect that), I can implement that function to update the block reward.

 Otherwise - I will remove it when I have a chance per your request.

Actually, someone did devise a way, to predict next block reward. Let me find it. It will be integrated into the client, eventually, I got side tracked by biger issues

Well, I've mined 16 blocks so far, totalling in 526 GIL, which is a solid average of 32.875 Coins.

This is just a small scale example obviously, but with the blockchain there's going to be some way to calculate the average of all Blocks mined until this point I guess

I think this is a problem of Cryptocoin wallets in general, as for the GIL wallet, I personally never experienced that, got a relatively fresh setup right now..

i asked you two questions this morning one about IRC mentioned in the logs and 2 about the upload bandwidth issue
and you answered ONE of them and then vanished never saying another word on Cryptsy's chat..
I asked my question over and over 5 god damn times ..people were laughing about it. and so was i ..and then i gave up.

so i seen you later at dinner time and asked you again and said what i just said above..
and you exploded into a tirade of insults and name calling for an hour straight.. insisting you answered me when you did not.
also since i never called you any names because i know its against the rules i did not.. so you then spent
all your time trying to convince everyone there i started it by calling you names first and i did nothing of the sort.
And my point was proven because you insulted on me on every single comment.. wish i was dead and calling me every name conceivable

Client confirmed for syncing. Sometimes it seems to get stuck, but it just takes a bit to find peers I guess..

I'm not very happy with the Diff adjustment of GIL. My proposal, change it to adjust, every block, so it doesn't get stuck on a higher difficulty. I'll let the magic numbers switch take effect first.

MST has a diff adjust of 10, and people exploit the hellout of it. They let the pool mine at higher diff, then, when diff drops, they jump on solo with high hashrate, and steal a lot of the easy blocks for themselves, rinse, repeat. Adjusting every block, is the bgest way to ensure that loyal GIL miners, don't get screwed out of blocks, by those types of greedy people.

Yes. All my clients synced properly. If your client says out of sync, its just because noone is mining GIL right now, so no blocks are being found. I'll be changing the diff adjustment tonight, and releasing a new client, to address this issue.

As far as I can tell, the magic numbers hard fork, was a complete success. All previous issues, with the client trying to sync with the LTC network, should now be permenantly resolved.

And and all issues with the GIL client, please let me know. If it is a problem with the client itself, I will fix it, ASAP.
Please be aware, that not all issues you may experience, are caused by the GIL client. Some issues, are specific to your PC, and cannot be fixed by a client update.

Donot mine @ http://gil.netcoin.pl

Pool operator, did not upgrade client, before magic number change. Since I had warned people, that the old client, would not communicate with the new client, any coins mined there, will never be able to be sent anywhere, that is using the new client ie: Cryptsy.
They will never reach their destination.

Only safe way to mine GIL atm, is solo.

Also, if it appears your wallet is not syncing, just give it time. Hashrate is very low on GIL atm, and diff is high. As soon as the next block is found, your client should sync

Indeed, after the updates Hydroponica very obviously just recently made, everything works perfectly fine, blockchain is unified, all my coins are still accessible, miner is hashing away,
I'm really curious to know in what kind of reality the Cryptsy staff seems to live in, GIL ist only just starting to become more popular.
Now that all issues with the client are fixed, everything is set for success.

I mean you just can't say Hydroponica wouldn't be commited enough, he did organize a pool, is doing upgrades whenever needed, he's recruiting new members to the dev team, he even set up an entire fucking Forum dedicated to GIL, all that is left to do is promotion now and we'll find ourselves spending GIL on some nice services such as coingas soon!

Coin Gas has also de-listed the coin, with only a week to go until the cryptsy drop the situation has become a risk I cannot monitor.  I really like GIL and am sad to see you go, as soon as another BTC trade source becomes available let me know and I will re-list you without question.

Get some hash, and check the pools maybe they are on the wrong chain, coinchoose says 685kh but one of the pools is reporting 25mh, I get the feeling that if some more hash is directed on this coin before the drop it might be avoided. I also check in the wallet and coinchoose is giving the same networkhasps as my 7.3 Wallet.

and the blockchain from the link in the first post

copy gil.conf to %APPDATA%\Gil
extract the blockchain to %APPDATA%\Gil

delete peers.dat from %APPDATA%\Gil and try again

as long as they match the conf file you can set them to anything

There still seems to be some confusion here...

Your OP says the P2P port is one thing, but the default port that the client connects to is another.

Still undervalued tenfold at least in my opinion, look at the amount of coins and we now got a pretty much perfect client, its very fast too.. but it's good to hear Cryptsy is making some sense here now.

gil.conf seems to be ignored. at least it doesn set specified rpc port.

where has it to be on linux?

usually its in the same directory as <somecoin>-qt or .<somecoin>

Hmm , from today Gil client become not sync . ( Out of sync )
There is 9 active connection .
But client not connected to the node 207.12.89.80 .

And one more .
I think GIL client is using the port 64575 for P2P .
But first post in this thread is saying 64574 is testnet port .

managed to sync with this node BUT BE WARNED if you try and mine on it, it will steal your blocks by blocking your ip, it then checks every 2mins to see if your online until you quit. it will then work again after 5-10mins orphaning your confirmed blocks.

Ok, so as the client somehow went cactus, basically all existent coins in GIL are frozen, this goes as well for GIL balances on Cryptsy,
I myself still have a rather big frozen amount of them on there, is there anything we can do about this at this point. -.-

Do we know what exactly went wrong with the client, why it isn't syncing right now?
Maybe new Nodes would fix the problem?

I think GIL may have run into the negative retarget block issue too. This is where a block is generated with a timestamp lower than the previous one (ie going back in time), which causes the difficulty retargeting algorithm to fail.

If this is the case (I haven't checked the code) mining will not be possible, and nodes may be banning peers if they receive a block they don't think is right. For example:

The retarget issue can only be fixed with a client update (hard fork)

I can't easily see what has happened to recent blocks because both my nodes refuse to sync past the very first 3 blocks...

BTW, anyone note that "RETARGET" was changed to "RETGILET" in the above debug output? Indiscriminate search & replace ARG->GIL in the source. :D
