so i've been thinking about this a lot recently, and i would like to know if anyone can come up with a reason why politicians are still necessary for good government. i've come to realize that their whole relevance comes from a time itself irrelevant to the modern world. in developed countries, the vast majority of people plugged into cell phones and internet, why do we have to be under a system thats from a time when most people were not even literate? most modern governments of wealthy developed countries were formed prior to the development of modern technology, and it had become the norm in the establishment of these countries to develop a system of political representation for citizens in the form of politicians as democratic systems emerged.

and so, functionally, politicians are meant to represent us in government, correct?

internet and cell phones let basically all people communicate instantaneously all the time, and the average amount of education a person receives today is probably not so different than the average politician received a century ago.. and even right here right now i am representing my own ideas thanks to this technology and education..
like the factory worker whose function, supplanted by technology, is quickly being made obselete by robots, so are politicians can we not use things like ssl and https to build something to replace make politicians obsolete? i dont think many will argue that they perform well in their function, and could not use an upgrade. we can replace government buildings in capitals with a secure domain for everyone to have a hand in governing, or at least the opportunity if they care enough to want it. the USA is considered a democratic republic because we have a system where a few vote for the rest, and yet its government loves to place the democratic ideal above all else. what would more democratic than having more people voting more?

we all already have a digital representaton of ourselves that exists simply in our bitcointalk forum user accounts. why not extend the arena to government as well?

what is the need for politicians?
in the USA, career politicians spend their entire lives advancing through ranks in government (and probably have better job security than you do). their only job is to keep their corporate sponsors happy so they that can continue to look good when they need to be re-elected. they might as well dress like nascar drivers with the jumpsuits with all the logos and brands on them... and its not like people are not already aware of this even. the existing political ecosystem in which political correctness is the rubric by which politicians are elected and fired, but it has very little to do with their actual function as our government.

this idea just continues to seem increasing obvious to me, but it just seems we are constantly evolving to something increasing further from this and it all just seems so counterproductive. can progress happen, or are we just entrenched into the current state of bullshit?

99% of all politicians  represent only themselves or some clans that they belongs to. And they don't care anything exept money, power and our voices on elections. I think, direct democracy can solve this problem. But it will become possible only when all people become true citizen who really care about they state.

We need politician to lead the members of society and to make laws that will implement peace and order. But most of then using their position for their personal gain and the people voted get left behind.

We need them to lead our country and improve it and help for the economic growth of our country help those people need to give them an education but instead of being a role model they are becoming a thief of there own country or corruption which is the common problem of our country they are a selfish and I think they forget the responsibility of being a politician.

What I love about this though is the 'anyone can write a law' idea. You could propose an outline of a law, then have multiple others from around the world add and contribute to that law and make it into passable legislation. Kind of like the crowdsourcing setup of HeroX.

Politicians are seldomly good leaders. These most of the time are manipulative people taking advantage of the authority given to them wihout really doing the job they're supposed to do. For me, less politicians and more leaders are needed. There's a wide gap between the two.

Most of the people are too busy and too self-oriented to take part in public talks and decision-making processes. Moreover, people need to have wider knowledge if they want to take part in politics. Depends to an extent who the politician is. We dont need lazy ones, we dont need self-serving ones, we dont need greedy, we dont need special interest servers, we dont need meglomaniacs. What we need is ideas, care for the people, making things just work and lowering taxes.

I think that as humans, we always need people to lead us in all affairs to ensure discipline. Politicians serve as representatives and most times all citizens cannot focus on all aspects of the nation's economy so these politicians are there at different sectors to help steer the affairs of the nation

The reason we have politicians is so that we have officials that can uphold the written law. Like American written law is unique because it leaves areas where laws can be open for the people to decide. If the people do have an idea, but it violates the guidelines set by our written law (the Constitution) then the politicians can vote it down. Politicians have another huge role which is to keep other politicians and the other branches in check.

We need politicians for us to have a leader to lead our society, to make law and implement it. But sad to say the politicians that must implement the law, help our country to be better are the one who make it harder for us

The whole idea in the founding of America and its government was in two basic parts:
1. That the people be free to do anything as long as they didn't hurt other people;
2. A government to protect people from invaders, and to organize jury protection when somebody claimed he was hurt by another person.

That was it. All the laws and government were set up for these two things only.

Sadly, today we see government being used by government officials to plunder the people, and to get the nation into all kinds of messes that were not intended.

How can we protect ourselves from government officials? Use the jury properly, same as it always was.

To rule people and making law of nation.

I understand the need of a government, but not the need of politicians.

It always feels like you have a bunch of unqualifying people doing the work. Each field should require the skills necessary to do the job.

It seems that all you need to run the country, or any part of it, is be good at convincing the majority of the people you should run it. They convince them by talks and nothing more. And the talks, probably comes from someone else.

I remember watching debates from when Obama and McCain was running, and every debate both of them would talk about the same exactly thing they have previewsly done so. It was almost like they memorized their plans, and had no other information outside of that. They were masters at diversion, since they kept going around without answering many questions.
It was almost like they were thinking. "Well, I don't have an answer for that, there was nothing about that on my study sheet, let me use my diversion skills and make it about something I did study".

politicians serve as a leader of a nation, state and some smaller group of the country! the politician will lead this group to be as one and those guys are making laws for the country to be peaceful and have some leaders so everyone has someone to follow and be unite. politicians are the most corrupt person in every country too!

We need leaders who understand that governing means uniting and building coalitions, not dividing and conquering. We don’t need more partisanship or divisiveness.  We need leaders with a broad set of work experiences and strong management skills—leaders who will use discretion and good judgment.  In other words, we need elected officials that do not represent the status quo.
 

It’s no secret that we have lost faith in our elected officials, both Democrat and Republican. They have often failed to properly anticipate problems, and their responses have been slow, reactionary and filled with excuses. i think a lot of people are missing the point. we need leaders in government, but this does not have to be an institutionalized thing. why cant we have decentralized government where anyone can choose to take lead on any issue they want and if they have support their roles as leaders become solidified.

this year is the political year in my country indonesia, where every region elect candidate governor simultaneously. get a new leader for a better change of course

well not all can contribute to the running of the governments, and not everyone is bold and charismatic enough to present the peoples ideas and needs  for actions. we need a go between for that. there is also international relations, some diplomatic dealings cant be done through phones and emails, we still need these guys

Actually, We don't really need these politicians. If you heard the song Imagine by John Lennon, We don't need leaders if we can work as one and if we only tend to be united and at peace. No race, no countries, no religions, and etc.


We don't need laws to be a better citizen, We could be better if we choose to be better. We can be successful if we choose to be successful. What I'm saying is that We all have the rights to choose for ourselves and no one should be an influence for that change.

Because we need leaders to lead us to the right path and to make laws that will make a country grow and productive.

Basically we need politicians to bring out the best in a country but not it's just full of drama and controversy. Politicians nowadays fight against themselves, instead of focusing on their each others task.

Politicians are just a reflex of the country's population. If you are unsatisfied with your politics, you are unsatisfied with your countrymen.

Anyway we need good politicians representing our country and doing the best for the citizens. It will depend from person to person, but I believe the best they could do is to give more freedom to the citizens of the country, since it doesn't affect negatively other people and the the whole society in general.

Without politicians there wouldn't be order, and it would just open a gap for some crazy tyrants take the power and rule the land.

We need politicians because they are leaders, and without leaders the world could be chaotic and not in order. We need people that will tell us or will serve us a judge on whether our country is still doing good or not. The only problem is some leaders are not that effective and has the tendency to do bad.

If the politicians are not there, then who will run the government? You can try with those with business degrees, but how they are going to manage foreign affairs and internal politics? In the government, there should be someone who knows the politics of that country. Else the administration will collapse in a matter of few weeks.

We need a good and god fearing politician in order to make a law to be implemented to the other branches of government and to enforce said law equally for the benefit of the community.

A world without a leader can be so chaotic. People cannot agree on things easily and results in a civil or a world war to solve disagreements and came up with a resolution or decision. We all wanted peace. That's why we need leaders and they are our politicians.

We need a good politician to lead people and implement law.A country without a good polotician is a messy country and people can do whatever they want,they can do bad things to others because they are not goong to jail.

Ideally politicians should be very clever, very well read, very experienced and measured individuals who are therefore best placed to determine the way societies' rules and norms are governed. This gives the best opportunity for the highest possible percentage of the population to thrive and enjoy life to the full.

We need politician to lead us,to impliment rules and regulation for the society and see to it that everyone or all the people will obey the law,rules and regulation to have a peaceful place to live.

But what is the point in having politicians who are low qualified and prone to taking bribes? I am from India, and I would say that more than 50% of the politicians here are corrupt. A few years back, there was a mass movement against corruption, but that also died down gradually.

It is very important to have some politicians who can be a leader and lead the country.

There is not really a need of politicians as people can manage without them easily.

Politicians are the people whom we voted to make changes in our country. We voted them because we believed in their promises to bring goodness in our society. Once they are seated in their positions, their jobs are to make laws and regulations, make projects for their constituents, and provide peace and order in their community. They are supposed to be good people because they help, but there are politicians who are just thinking for their own good and wealth, so some of them are just making money for themselves, they become corrupt.

politicians is needed as they control the whole country as we know they are corrupted but then also they are essential for the normal functionality and monitiring of the country.

Maybe Yes, we need politicians who will lead and maintain peace and order in our country. But we don't need just a Politician but a politician who will truly serve people and our country, who have faith in god , Patriotic and a politician who will help the people in needs.

No politicians are neeeded at all. The world should be ruled by protocol like any cryptocurency.

What was said there. People in a group will also delegate some power to a leader. Some out of laziness. Some out of the desire to not be the one accountable. Just how we animals are.

We need politicians in our country to makes laws for us to follow. Those kind of laws to help people not the kind of laws to destroy people. Politicians are people who helps the countries and make the countries to survive economically. Good politicians nowadays are rare , many are corrupts politicians , they have been running into politics to have money , to steal money from the people taxes. Politicians who are good are the helping ones , they are god fearing and all they want is the good for all the people that they lead.

Politics is very important in our society. Politicians lead the country. They are the ones who issue rules and laws. They also propose projects that will benefit its citizenry. But some politicians do not perform in good faith. Some of them use their power for the sake of their own good. Some are involved in criminal activities and use government's money for personal use, thats why some enter into politics not because they wanted to help the people, but because of power and wealth.

I think we don't need politicians, they are creating a lot of trouble in our society.

If you don't want the politicians, then who will oversee the administration? The other options we have are not that attractive. I am not sure whether a monarchy is better than a democracy, but I definitely don't want military dictatorship in my country.

I think we still need politicians but I think the positions are just too much. There are so many seats in government  that when you think about it, that position can be handled only by one person.

Administration could be ruled by people directlly via decentralized voting system, and if those guys stop doing things properly, via same system people can order the police to get them out of offices and replaced by new ones.
And the other major change should happen, administration should not sit on the top behind closed doors, and not should it be centralized in one place.

There is a difference between a politician and a leader, A leader cares about the well being of the people, whiles the politicians mostly care about themselves and their families. The difficult thing is that people sometimes confuse the two categories a lot.

Politicians are leaders, placed by God to rule the people. These leaders represent the people and works for thd people. Though there are times people dislike their leaders and have come up with their own opinions about them, ergo, we shoukd still respect them and we should follow thwm. There are countries where politicians are very useful for their people, and in some cases they even save their people from catastrophes. In other countries, they are just corrupted and treasonous parasites, and the people would live much better without them. Sometimes, you have a combination of these factors.
And never forget that any country doers not exist alone. There are other countries that many try to attack and/or damage you, in which cases you need someone with the authority to take important decisions affecting everybody.

We really need politician to lead and serve the people in the society. They will be the one who will rule the world and will implement rules that maintain peace and order to our society. I think without them our world will  be a battlefield. But we don't need a politician  we really need a true politician that will truly embrace their responsibility to lead.

A system with voting would be ideal. But all systems written by people can be cracked and voices can be forged. What then is different from politicians who can also be corrupt in the same way?

Someone to lead is always needed especially if you were talking about handling millions of people. Politician exist to lead the community to have a better life.  They will create an effective system for organizing our society. Determining how to accomplish things that need to done but would not be done without the approval of the citizens.

There is no need for a country other than scientists and teachers, and nowadays some countries are doing a very logical job of importing even workers. Policy is a very unnecessary system.

Politics is an important issue for any country. Not just politics, transparent politics. Because transparent politics can get a good politician. In the middle of the parliament, with the law and the honest politicians, the law is passed by the law, and in some countries beautiful disciplined nation can be used.. And without any other country and national politicians, development is not possible in any way, so politicians need it.

In every country we really need politicians. Why? Think wisely what happen to the country without politicians? No one lead in every county. The people has no law they may not obey the law of the nation.

The answer is quite simple, for the same very reasons we need cars despite their carbon monoxide emission.No matter how bad politicians are first of all, we voted for them, meaning they are a representation of our choices. They are there to serve our interests and if they happen not to be doing that,we need to evaluate ourselves and raise the bar higher for them. I know of a place where the current governor was the first in about thirty years to win a re-election. This is simply because if you mess up as a political representative, you won't get a second chance so they know they have to serve better.
We need them because if we govern ourselves, everything will eventually crumble TBH.
