Today, Bitcoin is declared to be dead again as BitcoinCash is surging so high into the atmosphere as many people are expressing their complaints on Bitcoin's astronomical transaction fees and questionable speed. There is a movement right now in the market expressing a big dismay or disappointment on Bitcoin as this is not the Bitcoin that we are supposed to have. Bitcoin enthusiasts are recognizing this problem and hoping that soon the problem can be given adequate and acceptable solutions. Have you already said your goodbye to Bitcoin and hello to BitcoinCash? Do you think the Lightning Network does have the chance to save Bitcoin even temporarily?

Why you think its dead? Its just a price drop, pretty normal in crypto world, If this you consider a dead then bitcoincash stays dead 99% of the year lol.

Lightning Network is far more than a tempory solution, it's the only feasible scaling solution in site. Bcash is only cheap to use because demand is so low. The recent tests of LN on the live network show it is almost ready to launch. Bitcoin is far ahead in adoption and the furthest ahead in developing a scaling solution. That is a very good reason to back Bitcoin in this race and not get distracted by the noises around.

Even if 1% of online transaction(shopping etc) in future happens to be in bitcoin then it's network will be dead.

This is a testing time for bitcoin right now, as there are a lot of new people coming in and discovering bitcoin and the crypto world, it is a shame that this is the time when bitcoin is suffering the most with crazy high fees and slow transaction times.

It is an ideal opportunity for bitcoin cash to start getting themselves across with faster transaction times and so on, they are not shy about this and we can see now that it has been added to Coinbase it will only increase.

I would not say bitcoin is dead at all, bitcoin will move out of daily payments where transaction need to be quicker and cheaper and move over to a store of value, bitcoin cash can then move into a currency for daily payments.

There is someone saying bitcoin is dead, if you have notice the price of btc it is pump and dump. Bitcoin has always the ability to pump its value anytime. In bitcoin cash Im not sure if the price will stay on top or eventually it will dump to the price it is.

More reasons to buy the dip as Bitcoin cash is pretty evidently being pumped by Coinbase's move. Soon enough, get ready to watch the rolls being reversed as the hype train derails and Bitcoin cash begins plummeting.

As TheQuin stated above, Lightning Network is a solution for the longer run to resolve scalability issues that the core is hurdled with and is focused on delivering much more than a temporary way out.

This should concern us to look about raising the blocksize? If not to much at least little, even Andreas (https://youtu.be/vPnO9ExJ50A?t=5m58s) talks that raising the blocksize should be concerned even with LN. I don't know why some people do the things they do but they are costing this industry billions of dollars. It's strange we get over 200k unconfirmed transactions and suddenly we enter the "flipping process" for BCH, if nothing changes we can't wait for LN for ages to come BCH or any other alt such as Dash or even Ethereum it self will crush bitcoin in the long run. Bitcoin has brand let's make it something that we all can use and enjoy using it.

I mean if everyone switch to another alt I may do that in future as well, since we all can agree that bitcoin is not that much usable, it doesn't really have big use as network is overloaded with transactions... this has been here for like 2-3years I think. Let's take action? No? I doubt that people will care about my opinion and opinion of others all they care is price... there's more meaning in all of this rather than just money.

The first question anyone should ask when something like this happens is "What caused it?"

As you now know, in this case it was Coinbase transferring BTC holdings into BCH for those that had requested it prior to the fork on August 1st. This means that despite what many will believe, it was NOT a major sell-off. Of course, now that Coinbase is offering BCH there may be many more buying into it, especially having seen growth of over 50% in under 24 hours, but these people will be doing so because:
a) they didn't know what caused that sudden hike, and
b) they buy what they consider to be most popular, and never take advantage of the dips.

I don't know if BTC will recover and hit the $20k mark this year but it is very likely to do that in January. BTC still retains the largest market cap (over 5x greater than BCH) and will undoubtedly rise to incredible heights in 2018.

Roger Ver may claim his product is superior, and that may well be true, BUT he has not understood that you do not have to have the best product in order to win the largest market share. Just look at the auto and technology industries if you don't believe me.

Dead? Forget the daily fluctuations. Just look at the long term trend. When something goes up so damn fast it is natural for there to be pull backs and profit taking starts to incorporate itself into the dynamics. All of this is just noise.

I'm getting tired of such posts and fullish Bitcoin cash promotions, endless complainig on fees etc. And I have very simple solution for such users - if you don't like Bitcoin just stop using it and all your problems will be solved.

Why would coinbase transfer BTC to BCH for holders that requested that? They and everyone else who has priv key got an equivelent of coins on the BCH blockchain since it split, they do not need to do this.

Today is a good time to buy, has fallen from the high point 15% this is the normal adjustment of the market, there is no need to be too panic. About BCH, there are not many investors to enter. Now the pull up price has great funds and independent operation. We should not enter BCH at this time and stick to our BTC. I believe our choice is right.

I quite agree with the above. Roger ver and his Bitcoin cash might be better than Bitcoin but Bitcoin Cash is yet to experience the amount of users Bitcoin has. Only a matter of time the 8 MB block will have difficulty to clear transactions.

Coinbase is absolutely useless. I wanted to buy the dip but BTC was rising so fast that the price kept going up. Every time I got my purchase confirmed, up came a message "Buy Failed due to unknown error in processing script. Please try again later."

You can't even contact support because they have a standard reply informing you they will reply within 7 to 10 days. Not very helpful when you want to buy the dip!

I won't say that bitcoin is dead in any way. It is still thriving and still number one among all other cryptos. However, there are two problems we are currently facing. One is the slow bitcoin network, due to which a lot of transactions are pending and secondly the high transaction fees. I just tried to transfer $370 from my online wallet and it is asking for $67 transaction fees which makes no sense to me. If the bitcoin transaction fees remains the same, people will certainly move to other currencies like ETH or BCH or Ripple for faster and cheaper transaction. However, on the other hand, the recent dip in price will give the investors an immense opportunity to buy bitcoin at a lower price. Dead is not the correct word to describe the current situation of bitcoin. It is just going through a hard time and nothing else. I believe we will soon see the end of such issues.

I heard about lighting network, if it will work, Bitcoin will grow exponencially. This is big IF. If implementation will fail, BTC will be probably not dead, but something like GOLD in comodity market. It will still have his prime, but his usefullnes will be limited and price will not bounce up too much.

I think, we will see some consolidation too. Lot of coins will die, but BTC there will be always. His price of course could be very volativ.

What do you mean temporarily? As soon as Bitcoin gets the Lightning Network up and running, it's death to bcash for good. Right now they are ahead because they know the only chance they got to try to succeed, is to go all in on the short term. They are planning to increase the blocksize again, they have a credit card, they got listed on coinbase, so everything is working fine for them. As soon as Bitcoin gets the LN, and it's scalability problems get solved, it's goodbye bcash, because it will no longer have any advantage over bitcoin, and it's short term strategy will no longer work.

I can't say that bitcoin is dead already however, with the problems of bitcoin like the high fees and the never to slow transaction many are considering it as dead. For me it isn't because I think bitcoin as a storage where we can put all of our digital currencies like a savings bank. In the past few days, we see bitcoin decreasing its value and its normal already but some of the investors of BTC maybe pulled out their investment and bought another coin like BCH or other alts.

It is not only about the price of a coin. It is about the transaction speed, the confirmation time. People ask "why do you speak of the micropayments?". OK, let us not speak about micropayments. Do you think that transaction fee don't apply to people storing bitcoin? What if the price goes through the roof (or the floor if we are at that) and you want to quickly sell your assets and you CANNOT do that not doubling the amount in fees ?

I really would want to know if there is another definition for the 'Dead' because the way its being used concerning bitcoin makes it seems like just any other word with another type of meaning than what we know. BCH has witnessed its surge before when bitcoin retreated in price before going an all time high and now its happening again, I dont know what the fuse is about considering the surge in BCH can be largely due to the crediting of BCH by Coinbase.

No, Bitcoin isn't dead, and it won't be dead anytime soon. It is the standard of the crypto industry with new updates and implementations every year. How can a coin which is a fork of the Bitcoin can kill its own master? It seems strange to me.
I know that the high fees and slow speed of the transactions are downgrading the mighty Bitcoin in the eyes of professional businesses, but those problems will be sort out very soon with the implementation of the Lightning Network.

I do not know when LN will be available,news say it is in the final testing phase and that proved to be successful.That would be great solution for today problems,but how will miners&exchanges react on this since they only profit from high fees.We have SegWit enabled but almost nobody uses it,can a similar situation be repeated with Lightning Network?

Why not look at this as another buying opportunity instead of just blindly saying that it's dead? For you to survive in this kind of business you at least need to know the basics of trading.

Trusting a new created crypto then abandoning the one you’ve trusted since then is a big mistake,, that will surely makes you regret at the time you’ll find out that you’ve been encourage to loss..

I have read that even with Lightning Network you will have to pay the regular fee twice - to open and close the Lightning Network tunnel, so if you engage with the particular service provider with only one or two transactions, there is no difference than it is currently in terms of all total fees you pay or it can even be worse.

In general, there is not much known for sure when it comes to Lightning Network (as you noted, by the way).

Lol this might not be the reason for bch getting pumped. There is a new fork announced which goes with the same name as B2X some people might have misjudged this as the actual fork which got cancelled in the past.

Another reason could also be coinbase finally crediting it's users and getting listed on gdax. Btc fees is surely high but simply using bch can't be a solution.

The current time when the sharp drop in exchange rates is a great opportunity to invest in this potential currency. I believe that the next two weeks the exchange rates of the BTC as well as other currencies will rise sharply because Christmas is coming. So you should not have negative thoughts on the BTC so should try to buy BTC right now.

well I thought it were the same fork, but with one particular change which is very important: they want to implement replay protection (original b2x was going boldly ahead without it). With the replay protection in place, catchy name (even if it is different people, as you say) and bitcoin network completely stuck for more than two weeks now, I predict they may be very successful...

I think its just normal for bitcoin to drop since it has increased so much in the past month, this is just normal for any crypto or even in the stock market. The reason is that people who previously invested are taking their profits. I think this is a good opportunity for people to invest since bitcoin price drop is actually followed by a good rise which is based on bitcoin price history. Bitcoin is not dead and always not dead. This happens because I think, bitcoin cash are being manipulated by the whales. From the perspective of bitcoin, it is impossible to be drop dead that easily by a small FUD that are being thrown to it. Since the transaction are very traffic this past few days, I think this was a manipulated one. If some whales are providing so many small transaction that will affect bitcoin confirmations, I think its the bitcoin cash group was behind all this pumps.

The price drop is natural for the ATHof the bitcoin market, we see the correction now of the price and it will be stick to $16500-$17500. This is SEASONAL.

They sold all their Bitcoin at the highest price then they switch to invest in Bitcoin Cash and that make Bitcoin price dump a lot :)). Whenever there's a price dump, everyone says that bitcoin is dead. I think its normal that we need corrections along the way. We have seen this numerous times in the past, but then once it recovered, bitcoin price surges to another all-time-high. As for bitcoin cash, all alts have been, ETH, LTC and others. Bitcoin Cash is an alt so therefore its logical that it is the next alt to pump right now.

I agree though that the fees is the major reason why people can't really used Bitcoin as intended. LN should be implemented so that to at least alleviate the growing issues on high tx fees that we have been complaining in the past couple of years.

I think that Bitcoin is never dead until the world destroy. Because,it it the mother of all crypto.It has good security system. It is profitable. For those,I want to say that Bitcoin is not dead again.

Yes, I agree with you. This is just a adjustment of market when the investors sell their Bitcoin to get profit or they wanna shift to invest in BCH. Bitcoin is not dead. It will recover in 2018

Why price fall is treated as a dead? Price drop is the sign to come forward for investment and keeping patience for existence investors.

Many altcoins are raising it comes as a result of people wanting to earn quick buck, their understanding that they are late for bitcoin run but see opportunity in altcoins. Many people are comming in the cryptocurrency in hope of investments.

Dash is another altcoin, it is used by some merchants and services but in my opinion have lack of big community, one of the driving forces there is that their dev team or whatever they have money to do ads campaigns and organize some events etc so that they can spread the word about Dash.

Its always been their among top cryptocurrencies and in my opinion will continue to hold its place within first cryptocurrencies

You can't say so easily that bitcoin is dead, if you say that then you don't know what bitcoin is, because for those someone who knows alot about bitcoin they know that bitcoin won't stay on its value, sometimes high and then suddenly drop low, its normal on bitcoin because thats how bitcoin works it depends on the demand on the bitcoin market will be the value pf bitcoin.

Honestly, It's wrong to say that bitcoin is dead, there's just a small fall in the price (in last 24 hour value decreased by 4%). Due to there are many transactions in blockchain and the majority of them are unconfirmed. Furthermore, the fee is very huge (more of $20).
In fact, Bitcoin cash has a crazy advance in the market cap and the price has become $ 3480.

Hi there iamTom123! As I observe the market, when the bitcoin fails or price drops all of the other altcoins including the famous bitcoin fork you are talking about steps in a higher new price. As I see it, it is not just one specific coin perform well during this time. Top coins out there are performing very well at the moment. I don’t think the lightning network could do a better job at this, but one factor that affect the price is the opening of the bitcoin future market by those big trading company. This problem I think is just temporary issue, and the price could sky rocket after several weeks.  ;)

Bitcoin is showing high levels of volatility, those who believe strong in bitcoin can buy at this moment, I think it is the moment to buy as it is anticipated it will still grow higher in 2018. The recent pump in bitcoin cash can also be a reason for the price swings in bitcoin, this don't indicate that bitcoin is dead, anything going too fast can be stopped a while which doesn't mean that it has gone down, an opportunity is given for us, the thing is we have to utilize it.

How can it be dead if only it drops the price a bit? Bitcoin is still number 1 and we know in the first place that bitcoin is in cryptocurrency world so meaning it is volatile. It may increase or decrease in value . But I think it will go back to its peak again and rise high compare to its highest price days ago. So don't think that it is dead it is very far from being dead.

Many in the past have said that bitcoin would die in the near future like when the price fell to like 3000 dollars from 5000 dollars, but Bitcoin value increased by a lot. Bitcoins recent high transaction fees and time for the transaction to be complete is really worrying many people to be the reason for bitcoins failure in the near future but maybe it gets solved in the near future. The growth in BCH's value is said to be a problem for bitcoin in the near future I don't know how much would that really affect Bitcoin prices. Conclusion: It is still to early just to say Bitcoin is dead again.

It's just a price drop which has happened with Bitcoin before it will recover. It's not dead yet, but it can be in the future as many new fast and better technology as LN is coming, Bitcoin is replaceable but not dead yet.

Many times the bitcoin price have fallen and many times peopel were wrong about it, and many will regret switching to bitcoin cash, it is no suprise for us that the bitcoin has fallen a bit as it is the case every year, and this time it is no different, after the skyrocketing price growth that we have witnessed this year, i don't belive that any man that have a slight sense of mind would ever risk abandoning the bitcoin, may i need to remind you how much was the price mast year, and how it fallen down from 1100 to 700 and people started panic selling and after a month the price started climing again, and those same people were posting how stupid they were for selling it, no need to panic and make stupid decision that you will regret it in the future, bitcoin is always going to be the king of the cryptocurrency and the price is always going to keep going up no matter how others try to be like it they will never reach its level.

There is no DEAD phase for bitcoin, corrections are needed for better price returns. Watch this and I think we will end in a higher price next month. This happened many times before in bitcoin.

Not sure why anyone would think this is a crisis. A correction has been long, long overdue. The bull was supposed to take a rest a long, long way back but it just kept on going. What's abnormal really is that this has taken so long, and the dip isn't as sharp as it could have been. When it goes up 100% and comes down only 25%, what does it say about Bitcoin? When insider trading on Bitcoin Cash, combined with the double whammy of future shorting and increasing regulatory pressure, all can only do this "damage" to the price, and when its direct adversary of BCH celebrates reaching barely 20% of Bitcoin price... this says volumes about the resilience of the world's most used, most recognised cryptocurrency.

My only regret now is that I received significant payments just days ago on jobs I did a while back. I don't buy Bitcoin so much as earn them, so I'd loved to have earned on this dip. I'm envious of anyone who has the chance to buy now.

The key word you put down is 'again' it obviously wasn't actually dead the first time it died and it isn't dead now. It seems people flip flop between BCash and Bitcoin. Everything is still measured against Satoshi on so many exchanges it would be a pretty massive step for it to die

I think it was a healthy pull back. The price sometimes goes too high too fast and will then show a correction. This correction is very minor and there not any recent bad news about Bitcoin, so I think this is normal. The price dropped close to $16.000 and then increased, but it’s possible it will drop back down. I would not be surprised if the price went below $16.000 at some point and even below $15.000 is easily possible. I just look at those drops as buying opportunities.

Stop saying that it is dead guys. We have seen this kind of movements a lot of times before, and yes, it was needed, i dont know why you all are panicking like if you have never seen a pullback before.

For the fact that the price/value of bitcoin is going down, does not bring about the death of the currency, it is a normal occurence. The price of bitcoin was never going to be always an upward movement, it is also expected to have a drop sometimes. The occurrence that happened to the currency years back, should not be used to judge its present state, as there is a difference in terms of acceptance and other factors.

Got nothing better to do than trolling? Bitcoin is having temporary problems due to transaction fees being pumped to the moon by some impatient people. I have been sending transactions just 2 days ago with a fee that was 6 times lower than it is now and they were going through lightning fast, but if you keep bidding up you will potentially be doing it endlessly, until you reach some crazy prices lik $500 per transaction and somebody finally decides enough is enough.

It's a glass half empty half full kind of situation. If you look at it like "it reached $20K but now it's $15K", then OK, the price is falling. But if you look at the historic trend, even this significant fall is not a crash.

It can never be happened, because bitcoin has a large number of its user in the world . If you consider the fall in the value of the bitcoin is dead then you are thinking wrong. Exactly there has to be pull back. Nothing can just go straight forward and reach new ATH without falling. This is what bitcoin has been doing from the moment I started to read about it. I would rather say ordinary people were/are caching out, maybe those same who joined the market in last months, and companies, pro traders. But I doubt it is just that.

Lot of new guys are neither tech versed nor traders. Many entered because of repeating news about BTC success, helped by their bad situation or greed. Some persuaded by friends or family. People not really willing to risk, and without resources to invest. They 'gamble' little what they have and react nervously to each move. I know guy who sold everything he had first time when he noticed 'bigger' move like from 11k peak to ~10k.

Anyway what would I like to know is why is this first year where 'caching out' is so obvious? Of course before something like this wasn't possible to this extent, but again not to be measurable at all?

Don't worry about it bitcoin will surely comeback because it is winter break some investor sell their bitcoin or buy other alts like BCC.

Bitcoin showed us what he could do in the past. These reactions are normal but need to be trusted. It will be troublesome in this process but it will break your own record every time. As I see it, it isn't only one particular coin perform well amid this time. Top coins out there are performing extremely well right now. I don't think the lightning system could complete a superior employment at this, however one factor that influence the cost is the opening of the bitcoin future market by those huge exchanging organization. This issue I believe is simply impermanent issue, and the cost could soar following a little while.
