Checked out your website. It's good that you have moderation of articles, because on regular Wikipedia some articles are not checked for months. I think you are also struggling with promotion, because as I understand project is non-commercial. Thus I hope that you will find a good monetization way. Maybe I'll write a couple of articles soon to support your idea :)

Finally something new in the cryptoworld not connected with ICO! Great idea, education is very important. As I understand you write also about projects and different coins, right? It could be a way to make money :)

Is there any reason why you decided to start an entirely new Bitcoin wiki, instead of adding to the existing one (https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Main_Page)?
Not saying that I think it's a bad idea or anything like that... I'm just a bit curious why you decided to build a completely new one :)

By the way, the other Bitcoin wiki still has a lot more information than yours, it'll be a while before you catch up to them.
Their pages are also way more in depth, I noticed after reading a few.

Thank you for your opinion! It could be that some paragraphs are similar to those that are published at en.bitcoin.it, because articles on our website are created by real people.
en.bitcoin.it is not a mirror of bitcoinwiki.org. The main difference between that project and ours is that we publish articles not only about Bitcoin but also about everything in cryptoworld. We also try to make these articles easy to read to ordinary people :)

Yes, you're right: just register, write and wait :) If your article is relevant and correct it will be published soon. What's important, if you don't know wiki-markup it's not a problem. Just email us with you article and our editors will publish it according to wiki-markup!

It definitely shouldn't be a problem if you copy parts of articles from the Bitcoin.it wiki, as long as you give clear attribution to them and indicate where changes have been made. Their articles are licensed under 'CC BY 3.0' (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/), which is one of the most permissive CC licenses.

I can't really say that I agree with your vision that your project makes articles easier to read for ordinary people.
A wiki isn't really suitable for that, it's always a bit more targeted towards technical or more experienced users. Wouldn't a regular website or blog work better for that purpose?

Anyway, I still think it's a good thing that you're trying to make this information more accessible, just not fully convinced of the method, that's all.

And you are right, there is no problem. If the information was taken from other websites, it is indicated at the bottom of the page in "Sources". Bitcoinwiki.org will also have the Creative Commons license very soon.

You just have to type the name of the article in the search line. If such article already exist you can edit it. If it doesn't exist the system will offer you to create it. Press the red name of the article and start typing.

You are talking about wiki-markup. For now you can see the markup guide by pressing "Help" on the top right of Bitcoinwiki.
To make titles of different levels just write the name of the title ==Like this==. ===Like this=== or ====Like this====

This wiki markup is not very easy for me. I edited some articles on your website and i always needed to look at the Help page. It was difficult to remember all rules, but i hope i will do it one day.

Sure, you just need to practice a little bit more. Wiki-markup is not that complicated, you just gotta know basics. Moreover we're gonna to make our guide easier, create educational video and we've already launched the series of lessons in our Twitter account. You can just type #bitcoinwiki_study and see them all. There are just some lessons now, but soon there will be more :)

Mentors will be at the top of our rating system. It means that they will have the most of written and edited articles. They will be able to help newbies on talk-pages.

By the way guys, is bitcoinwiki a commercial project? How  are you gonna monetize the portal?

We're nonprofit project and our main aim is to educate and inform. But we also need to self-pay so we think about ways to do it. We want to make it win-win for the project itself and for our community :)

Yes. This possibility exists not only on talk-page but also on article-pages of course. So you can check how the text and wiki-markup are look like.

I appreciate your antispam system guys. In my opinion it must be effective. It was said correctly that moderators under such system should quickly check all the changes but as I see you while coping with this task.

Why don't you guys launch some kind of scam detector? If you're trying to build a high-status reliable source of information that would be really of use to show what ICO or coin people can or can't trust.

You read our mind, Cryptotango :D Yes, we're going to make a special rating of ICOs and put it in ICO articles so everybody could vote if it's a scam or not.

We're democratical project :) We want our users to create content, to evaluate it, discuss and decide what's scam and what's not.

You can just press "Discussion" above any article and see the talk-page where people can chat and discuss the article and it's topic.

But where do you take those articles from? Do you have a special team who finds out all the techical features, desribes the developers etc.?

I think they just pick info from the open sources...

We do that as well but our main approach is to relate directly with developing teams that afford us their info.

Do you think that's fair? No developer will let the world know about disadvantages of his project and will give you only the positive info.

First of all, we suppose that nobody will describe a project better than it's developers. Secondly, we're aware that founders might brighten up a bit themselves and their ICOs but we try to moderate those aspects.

Sure! And remember that Bitcoinwiki is the open source portal, you can edit anything you consider biased or unfair :)

I think that's the problem when people want all the information and conclusions to be chewed and given by someone else. In decentralized world you gotta think with your own brains. And guys do the great job!

I also think the project is great but they must take responsability on what content is on their portal.

And we do take it! We work as common Wikipedia works, we just look if the articles and edits are non-biased and adequate and let our users do whatever they wanna do with it.

That's not our aim, we're about inforamtion and education. If our articles was biased we just woldn't let people edit it :) But we approve all the relevant edits, you can try it by yourself, we'll be just happy :)

This license means that other people nowadays can freely share our material, transform it and use for any purpose. It can be done in condition you indicate authorship and if you transform our material you have to distribute your contributions under the same license.

If I'm not mistaken BeckyHolmes has told about it about a week ago that the project will have this type of license. You kept your word :)

Yes. Wikipedia also has the Creative Commons license. It is also Attribution-ShareAlike like our license. Now different cryptoprojects can place their articles  that exist on our website on Wikipedia. There won't be any problem ;)

I do like the idea for having a wiki for the btc. I think it is really useful for the new joiners who want to learn more stuff and want to get familiar with the new terms and its meaning. Nice joke by the way of the ICO and who know they may come up with this idea as well in coming time.  :P

You are totally right. Bitcoinwiki.org is not only about Bitcoin. It is online encyclopedia about whole cryptoworld. We have articles about different cryptocurrencies, exchanges, wallets, ICO projects etc. The name of our project (Bitcoinwiki) was made as a tribute of respect to the first cryptocurrency  ;)

No, we're not running any ICO. We just want to attract more people to content creation on our wiki.

Nice to know that. Cause such a huge amount of ICOs appears every day and most of them are useless scam. That's why I didn't want to see the good project among those ICOs.

Everything is alright, we're still working on our tokens and will launch airdrop soon. We just decided to change new design a bit that's why moved banners away for some time.

Our main aim is to flood over the crypto market with high quality content to fight FUD and help crypto newbies. And that's what we will continue to do. So no ICOs and no scam.

That's what I mean. In the case of bitcoinwiki there should be blocks like wallets, exchanges, famous personalities, bitcoin and altcoins

I think the classification is not that bad now, you can see all wallets or exchanges etc. in listings

How to upload the image to the page?

you should go to editing regime and press the icon with image

Press Edit in the upper right corner, then press the icon named Embedded file (to the right of the link icon) and follow next instructions  ;)

You can change the size of the picture. You have to change the amount of px in the formula. For example, 300px, 400px etc.

Yes. You can add the word left if you want to place your image to the left part of the page. The image displays on the right part automatically  :)

We try, but some edits need more thorough check and some of them not.

I like your project, its manifacture and its concept, but why won't you instead contribute to the "original" https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Main_Page and help not spread the community efforts into multiple websites?
I also understand that redundancy is important in knowloedge spreading, just want to know your point of view about this.

The idea is great, but I find that if it is just about bitcoin, there is little that you can learn, so if possible we can add the activities and the journey of the other altcoin. I find bitcoin to be the first ecosystem and present ecosystem that is nurturing more ideas about altcoin to reach a more developed community.

Your page at https://en.bitcoinwiki.org/index.php?title=BitMinter contains links to a fake Bitminter website which is pretending to be Bitminter, but is in reality an investment scam.

I created an account at bitcoinwiki.org and submitted an edit which would remove the scam text and link. Now I see the edit has been rejected and my account has been deleted.

This is really sad and at the same time a shameful act by bitcoinwiki.org.
What is so hard when distinguishing between bitminter.in and bitminter.com. I can only imagine the number of people who might fall victims and get tricked by the scammer's link
