"The recent rise of Bitcoin and its subsequent crackdown have taught us one thing: Bitcoin is awesome, but it’s not fully private. In fact, it’s one of the most public transaction systems ever, operating through an open access database known as the blockchain, and each transaction has a traceable IP address. In Bitcoin, you may be unknown, but your money isn’t." How does each transaction have a traceable IP address? Or is the author incorrect? wha? ??? stopped reading there. >:( Title: Re: Zerocoin is like Bitcoin, Except It's Actually Anonymous Post by: Walter Rothbard on October 11, 2013, 02:56:22 PM With the zerocoin library available, what obstacles are preventing someone from making an altcoin that incorporates zerocoin?
Title: Re: Zerocoin is like Bitcoin, Except It's Actually Anonymous Post by: tacotime on October 11, 2013, 03:51:47 PM Zerocoin is like bitcoin with an inbuilt anonymizing function. It works kind of like this:
Put lots of other peoples money and your money of the same denomination in a bin Mix the money up Reach in an grab an equivalent amount of money, which is now a random person's money Now no one can tell where the original money came from. They already have similar services for bitcoins for a fee: https://blockchain.info/wallet/send-shared http://www.bitcoinfog.com/ Title: Re: Zerocoin is like Bitcoin, Except It's Actually Anonymous Post by: Snail2 on October 11, 2013, 05:30:58 PM As far as I know zerocoin is in alpha state at this moment, so it needs time and more active devs.

Title: Re: Zerocoin is like Bitcoin, Except It's Actually Anonymous Post by: QuantPlus on October 11, 2013, 06:02:47 PM Introduction
libzerocoin is a C++ library that implements the core cryptographic routines of the Zerocoin protocol. Zerocoin is a distributed anonymous cash extension for Bitcoin-type (hash chain based) protocols. The protocol uses zero knowledge proofs to implement a fully decentralized coin laundry. The Zerocoin protocol is provably secure and uses well-studied cryptographic primitives. For a complete description of the protocol, see our white paper published in the IEEE Security & Privacy Symposium (2013) below. WARNING THIS IS DEVELOPMENT SOFTWARE. WE DON'T CERTIFY IT FOR PRODUCTION USE. WE ARE RELEASING THIS DEV VERSION FOR THE COMMUNITY TO EXAMINE, TEST AND (PROBABLY) BREAK. IF YOU SEE SOMETHING, SAY SOMETHING! IN THE COMING WEEKS WE WILL LIKELY MAKE CHANGES TO THE WIRE PROTOCOL THAT COULD BREAK CLIENT COMPATIBILITY. SEE [[HOW TO CONTRIBUTE]] FOR A LIST OF WAYS YOU CAN HELP US. WARNING WARNING NO, SERIOUSLY. THE ABOVE WARNING IS NOT JUST BOILERPLATE. THIS REALLY IS DEVELOPMENT CODE AND WE'RE STILL ACTIVELY LOOKING FOR THE THINGS WE'VE INEVITABLY DONE WRONG.
