Btc-e is unfortunately the most popular exchange. People on this website manipulate prices as they like. I hope other exchanges and "fair" exchanges, no scams, no cheating, will become more popular than them in future. I think you missed out on the fact that there are about 8 exchanges out right now. But those websites fail to provide a real competition, they don't offer the same services (Sepa, Okpay, Perfect money, supported currencies USD EUR, RUR...).
